Contribute CS3 Locking up pages
My client just began using Contribute CS3 and each time she
edits a page, then publishes, she can no longer access the page for
further editing until we unlock the page for her.
She'll get an error that 'this page is being edited by her
and not available to edit'. Or the message will say she's editing
the page on another computer.
Has anyone else experienced this problem and if so, how did
you resolve it?

I have been having the same problem with both Contribute 3.1
and CS3. It only occurs when I have a lot of links on the page. I
am now using spry menus and have a lot of links on every page and
so Contribute is locking up when I try to publish. Then you can't
use it again until you clear out the drafts. Without the spry menus
it was always just one draft page, but now with the spry menu it
grabbed all of my links to other pages and created a draft for each
one. I now have to clear out around 50 drafts. Can anyone help with
this?

Hi,
I have a friend who had been using the Mac version of
Contibute 3, then upgraded to Contribute 4 and now upgraded to
Contribute CS3. Here problem began about 8 months ago and she has
been on the phone with Adobe support for hours with no resolution
to fixing it. Her basic problem is that she can edit find but when
she goes to Publish her site, he computer locks up and she has to
unplug everything in order to get out of it. She uses Road Runner
connecting through a Linksys router and has to unplug these 2
devices to get her computer to boot again. Any idea what might be
happening with all of this. I don't use Contribute but I know that
there is a solution for her problem - anyone can give point me in
the right direction or a way to resolve this? She likes Contribute
since it's so easy to use. I tried to get her to use Go Live but
she didn't like it as much. Any input greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
DavidHi again,
I did find out that my friend's problem is somehow connected
to the way Contribute connects to the internet. When I plug her
iMac directly into her cable modem, Contribute CS3 works
flawlessly. When I connect it to her Linksys router, it bombs her
computer everytime she tries to publish a page. Any ideas greatly
appreciated.

Contribute CS3 embeds the contents of SSI Includes into page after Edit and Publish
I have tried every possible way to figure this out but it
seems as though no one has this problem or a solution...
My Dreamweaver CS3 Template based files that have SSI
Includes placed in a "non-editable region" of a template and/or
nested templates are continually embedded, merged, or hard-coded (I
used those keywords for anyone else who might be searching for help
on this frustrating issue) into the page after it has been edited
and published with Contribute CS3 for Windows.
After many, many, hours and days rebuilding templates
(thinking that it was my code), experimenting with .htaccess
include_path variables, and cursing this application, I have come
to one conclusion - if I put my includes within "editable regions"
in the templates or the template based pages, edit and publish the
page with Contribute - then the page is saved normally, with the
includes intact and not embedded within the page. This is of course
not necessarily desirable!
I have tried using various types of include directives like:
<?php include('footer.inc'); ?>
<?php require('footer.inc'); ?>
<?php virtual(footer.php'); ?>
<!--#include file="footer.inc"-->
<!--#include virtual="footer.inc"-->
All Includes are merged into the template-based page after
the page has been edited and published with Contribute - if they
are in "non-editable regions"!
Please, someone point me in the right direction - if it's
calling Adobe's Help line, or posting the files or whatever. I
can't finish this project and hand off to the client until this is
resolved.
AndrewHi,
I'd be reall interested to know if you got anywhere with this as I'm having the same problem.
The article referenced further down this thread is no longer available either.
Any suggestions or advice on this issue would be much appreciated.

In Contribute CS3, using MacBookPro with Snow Leopard HELP locked
I am using Contribute CS3 and I can connect to site, but when I get into the edit screen whenever I click anywhere, I get the rainbow spiral and it literally takes 20 to 30 minutes to stop. then when I click again to do something it starts again and I can't ever make any changes. It says I also have an unpublished document but when I click on the "unpublished document" hot words, I go into spiral again. what can I do? I am on a MacBook Pro with snow Leopard.
That error is NOT because of the activation. That's a separate issue.

Dreamweaver 8 and Contribute CS3
Is Contribute CS3 compatible with Dreamweaver 8?
Since Dreamweaver users checkout the files, Lock will be
created for those file (.LCK), so Contribute users can't edit the
page until the files are checked in and lock is released. -
Hi,
Our client is using Contribute 4 to update an asp.net site.
He's been using it without any issues for months, but now he's
getting an error when publishing. Contribute attempts to publish,
but then gets a "cannot connect to server" error. This then
generates an IO exception where IIS appears to be hung. Contribute
saves a draft in his draft folder, and when he deletes the draft or
closes Contribute, he's left with a blank page (on the live site!),
and the IO exception has gone away. I can use my version of
Contribute without any problems.
Any suggestions? I had him disable his virus scanner and
reinstall Contribute, but so far nothing has worked.I have been having the same problem with both Contribute 3.1
and CS3. It only occurs when I have a lot of links on the page. I
am now using spry menus and have a lot of links on every page and

How do I browse directory contents in Contribute CS3?
Hi everyone!
I have one of our users uploading photos to our website. At the moment she uses an FTP connection via Adobe Contribute CS3 to our web server. This has worked great in the past. However, at the moment she's uploading pictures to a dynamic website [Wordpress] and not using Contribute to edit the pages directly [as this is obviously done with the Wordpress Administration web panel]. The method she has been using is, within Adobe Contribute CS3, File>Publish File from My Computer. This is great, but the problem is that she can only upload one file at a time, and if she's already uploaded the file, she has no way of knowing she's uploaded it before, except for that Contribute appends a 001 at the end of the file name.
How can she access a folder structure within Contribute CS3, treating it like an FTP client? I'm sure this must be doable. Yes, I could install an FTP client, but she's very comfortable using Contribute CS3 and uses this application for other portions of the website which are static.
Thanks in advance for any advice!Hi,
To check if she's already uploaded the file, she can click the Choose button in Contribute. On clicking Choose button, Choose File dialog will be shown. In this dialog, she can browse to the appropriate folder in which she had published the images, and verify the contents.
For uploading multiple files through Publish File from my Computer, I do not think it is possible as of now. There can be a workaround though, insert all the images you want to a web page, and publish the web page to the website. Then, all the images will be published along with the web page. Then, you can delete that web page.
Note: The images in a web page, generally are placed in the 'images' directory of the website by Contribute. If you are placing the images in different folder, then, make sure that you change the publish folder for images to that folder. -
Copy/Paste images into Contribute CS3
We have been copying and pasting images from Word Documents
in Office 2003 into Contribute CS3 at my organization when
developing content. We have been able to copy/paste images from
Office 2003 and other programs like Paintshop Pro and SnagIt.
Since upgrade to Microsoft Office 2007 all image copying and
pasting has stopped working.
Is there a known issue with this?
Does anyone else have Office 2007 installed and is able to
copy/paste images from a Word Document into a page in Contribute
CS3?It appears that the problem only occurs if you are copy and
pasting from something that hasn't been saved yet.
In Word I inserted an image from my hard drive and tried to
copy/paste it into Contribute and that failed. I then saved the
Word Document to my hard drive, re-opened it and was able to
copy/paste fine.
Power Point, Snagit and Pain Shop Pro appear to have the
problem even if it's been saved first.
I was able to copy/paste an image from a Word Doc and
PowerPoint into MSPaint just fine. I was also able to copy/paste
between Office applications with out any problem. Snagit could
copy/paste into Office just fine and MSPaint.
This problem appears to be specific to Contribute CS3 but
only from certain sources. -
Uploading multiple files in Contribute CS3
I have a website where I am constantly creating new pages
almost everyday. I use Adobe Contribute CS3. I began creating
drafts (all from one template) and saving them for later. Now, I'm
have almost 200 drafts to publish to the server and the process is
relatively slow. Is there a way that I can upload all these drafts
to my server at one time? I found this page on Google (click the
link)
http://www.vdsys.com/contribute/answer-addmultdocs.htm
, but this process does not seem to work for me.Does it work for
anyone else? I need HELP.Thanks Vikas,
I spotted the multiple file browse button solution from a forum search. I'm trying to avoid it as I don't want to have to force the user to have to step through the file browse process for each file. I'd rather they opened a single dialog (of some kind) and selected multiple files and hit upload once only.
I Googled the second one as well. Similar problem as above, although, it's getting closer. I found a few examples using a java applet. Most of them I'd need to buy, which I'm not against in principle, just rather find something I can code myself.
This is what I've been asked for.
"....Files should be uploadable from a dialog box similar to the one provided in MS Outlook where 1 or more attachments can be uploaded to an email in a single process......[it is] important that the user is able to select multiple files in a single step and are not forced to step through a repetative process for each file....".
Any help appreciated.
Cheers

Editing troubles - Contribute CS3
Good afternoon all. We hired a company that we no longer have contact with to create our website. We were given Contribute CS3 to maintain/edit certain information on the page. I need to edit the actual template for the site but everytime I put the cursor over the area for editing I get a circle with a line through it. Can anyone help?
Thank you for your help.
L3In order to edit template files, you would probably need Adobe Dreamweaver.
Technically, if you know whatever tech. they are built with, you could use Notebook to do the editing but that would not apply the template changes to your site. -
Need help installing Contribute CS3
I'm stuck on reinstalling my Contribute CS3. I've clicked on Local/Network on the question " How do you connect to your web server?" in the connection wizard part of the installation process and have no idea how to answer the next question they ask which is "What is the network path to your web site?" Can anyone help me on this
I unfortunately can't talk you through the process step by step.. I don't have the same version you're using and cannot reinstall english CS3, nor do I know where exactly in the whole process you're at now. I suppose the install of Contribute CS3 finished and you're now faced with having to create a new connection.
In order to do so, you prolly have to chose Edit > My Connections (exact names might be a bit off, I am using a German version) from Contributes main menu, then click "New.."
Where you went the wrong way the last time was by selecting "I am connecting to my website via... Local/Network". Choose "FTP" instead.
You'll need your FTP login data, if you didn't write that down, you need to ask your hosting company to send it to you.
You're looking for the following pieces of information:
FTP host name - usually looks kinda like this: ftp.mysite.com
FTP user name
FTP password
perhaps ftp folder - thats the folder where your "start page" is located, most times this can be left blank however.
If your site was protected with an Administrator password, you'll need that as well. Chances are your hosting company doesn't know it - it was set by whomever created the homepage and first enabled it for use with Contribute.
Adobe Support might be able to talk you through the setup process on the phone, but in order for them to do so, you'll need to have the above info at hand before you call them.
Is it possible that somebody setup your homepage for you and was sending you a Contribute connection keyfile? That would explain why you never had to go through these steps before. If that's the case, it might be easier to ask that person for another copy of the connection key file.. -
Upload Captivate 4 using Contribute CS3?
Hello.
We are trying to upload a published Captivate 4 project to the web server using Adobe Contribute CS3.
When we use Contribute, the links in the swf open in the current window or not at all, even though the settings inside the swf indicate to open in a new window.
When we use an ftp program (WS_FTP), everything works in the swf as intended.
Of course, the company won't let us upload to the web server without using Contribute :/
Do you know why Contribute is not "seeing" the links and their specifications from the Captivate swf?
I couldn't find anything relevant on the web addressing this situation.
Thank you!Hi,
Can I know how you create links in the swf file? Because, I created a simple swf file in Captivate having a button, and linked it to a web page. I set the link to open in a new window. I inserted this swf file in one of the web pages and published. The links worked fine for me. When I click the button, the web page linked to it opened in a new window. -
Client can't edit site with Contribute CS3
I put a site online last week (www.dunelakeslodge.co.nz) and
supplied my
client with Contribute CS3 to update it, supplying her a
connection key.
She is connecting OK, but when she tries to edit a page she
gets a
message saying she "can't edit this page because Dave Addison
(that's
me) is already editing it. Please contact blah, blah...".
I have connected to the site myself with Contribute 3, and
got a similar
error: "you can't edit this site because you are already
editing it on
another computer"!!
It gave me the option to "unlock" the page, which I selected,
and I was
then able to edit the page. However, my client still can't.
Anyone got a solution to this?
thanks
DaveI'm sure someone here will be able to help, but just curious
if you've tried
posting in the Contribute forum at all?
Take care,
Shane H

Contribute CS3 Can't Edit Roller Blog
I'm just starting to use Contribute CS3 (Mac) to see if I
want to use it vs. Ecto that use now for my Blog. The server is
Apache Roller Weblogger v 4.0-dev. I setup my blog using Other Blog
Server options using an access point of
http://<my
domain>/roller-services/xmlrpc. This is the same AP that Ecto
uses which works.
It looks like I'm connected ... when I go to choose File or
Blog Entry my blog appears I click on open and it shows my blog
pages (BTW I'm using
one of the roller themes for my page). I select the page I
want to edit then click on edit and nothing happens???
What's the trick to this?Roller is supported in CS3. Your access point looks ok. I
enter access point as "
http://<server-name>:<port>/roller/xmlrpc"
..Please check if your access point is correct. If your access
point is correct and you still face problem, can you please send me
your roller server details(access point, username and password) on
lkaur(at)adobe.com . Your details will be kept confidential. I
would be more than happy to help you out for same. -
Contribute CS3 Hang in Windows
Contribute CS3, running Windows XP, I have this on two separate installations. Website admin info is properly configured. I always have to do the "Connect" option, yet on other machines I go directly to "Edit page". Machines are running on a local Windows 2000 Domain server, but only for a file sharing server. Logon as administrator or user has no effect on the problem.
When I hit CONNECT, I often get a complete hang that never clears. Contribue.exe will go to 50% CPU and stay there, it never goes to "Not Responding". Almost 100% of the time this will occur. Uninstall/reinstall has not effect, and again, I just configured an entirely new Win XP install and a fresh CS3 install and have the same problem.
There was another thread that talked about this on the Mac and linked to a forum article that no longer exists. Would appreciate any ideas or help with this.I installed the entire CS3 and CS4 suites in Win7 but I only briefly tested them. Everything started up okay. As with Vista 64 it's vital that you accept the default installation path and even more important to remember that you'll be on your own as far as support.
