Contribute CS4 hates Mountain Lion, or vice versa

After upgrading to Mountain Lion, I found that Contribute CS4 did not open.  In searching for an answer I found the following on the Adobe forum:
"Earlier versions of Adobe Photoshop (CS3 and CS4) software were also tested with Mountain Lion and there are currently no known issues."
So continuing to search, two days of frustration ensued as I "chatted" with 2 unhelpful Adobe customer support reps, searched unhelpful Apple and Adobe websites and posted my question in various places.  Finally I found that the above statement was completely wrong when I received the following from an Adobe staffer:
Mountain LION is not a supported platform for Adobe Contribute CS4. The supported versions are Latest Adobe Contribute 6.5 and Adobe Contribute CS5.X.
And now I have to spend hundreds in order to maintain my website after upgrading to Mountain Lion.  I don't even know to whom I should take my complaint, Apple or Adobe.  Does this mean I have to research every piece of software I use before upgrading my Mac?  At the very least, Mac owners should be forwarned of platform support failures for major 3rd party producers. I'm doing my bit here.   How about you taking some responsibility?

"Earlier versions of Adobe Photoshop (CS3 and CS4) software were also tested with Mountain Lion and there are currently no known issues."
and
"Mountain LION is not a supported platform for Adobe Contribute CS4. The supported versions are Latest Adobe Contribute 6.5 and Adobe Contribute CS5.X."
Do not mean the same thing.
Adobe probably DID test and found no problems with their machines using their configurations but they can't cover every possible configuration out there so there's bound to be some instances (or many instances) where it won't work.
Hence the second quote saying it is not supported...

  • Photoshop CS4 and Mountain Lion Printing Question

I recently downloaded CS4 onto my new Macbook Pro Retina running Mountain Lion and I am not able to print from CS4 to my Epson 3800 printer. When I hit the print button, the light on the Epson 3800 blinks one time but nothing happens.  The file does not even get sent to the printing queue.
Photoshop CS4 otherwise works perfectly fine on my Macbook Pro Retina.  Additionally, all other applications on my Macbook Retina print perfectly fine on my Epson 3800.  For example, I can print from Aperture to the Epson 3800 just fine.  I am using the most recent Epson driver from the Epson website.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Peter,
Since your Epson 3800 printer is working fine with other applications, one workflow work around would be to export your Photoshop file as another format (for example .jpeg, .png, .tiff or even .pdf depending on what your content is). By exporting it as another format, you can open it using other applications (such as Acrobar Reader, or Preview) and print from there. While this is not the most ideal lsolution, it should do the trick if you are in a rush to print.
To help troubleshoot and solve this problem in the long run, you can take a look at this help page: Trouble Shooting Printing Problems, Photoshop CS4 Mac OS.
This helpful page lists all the possible things you can do to reset or fix the problem, it also lists a number of alternatives.
    Hope this helps!

  • CS4 on Mountain Lion

Can I transfer Photoshop CS4 to Mac 10.8, Mountain Lion? If so, what do I have to do to make it work?

There have been many reports of CS4 crashing on 10.8. See the quote from Chris Cox at Adobe:
That crash is a known bug in Apple's display code.
But it's the QuickDraw code, which Apple does not want to fix.
There is nothing we can do about that OS bug, other than to suggest using a more recent version of Photoshop written to the Cocoa APIs.
You would qualify for the Photograhy Program (Photoshop CC & Lightroom 5) at $9.99 per month or local equivalent, but its a one off offer for existing CS customers (Photoshop or PS Extended) which will not be available after 31 December.
If you need any more advice it's best to try the main Photoshop forum. Someone over there may have found a work-around.

  • CS4 and Mountain Lion

    Hello,
I have a MacBook Pro with an old OS (10.5.8), I'd like to upgrade to Mountain Lion and wondering if Adobe CS4 will work after the update.
Apparently I'll have to first upgrade to Snow Leopard and then Mountain Lion. Do I have to reinstall CS4 (or can I) using the original CD:s and how does it work with other software such as Office?
Lookind forward to hear if anyone has experience of this.

You are correct about the path to Mountain Lion. You can order Snow leopard online.

As to compatibliy, this is a comprehensive overwiew:

I am running CS3 on OS 10.8.5, so CS4 should not be a problem. My memory is that I had to reinstall it, and jump through hoops with Adobe phone support. But it does work and Adobe will, albeit reluctantly, help you get it going. But try it first yourself.

Which version of MS office? 2008 and later are ok. 2004 is not.

  • How to install CS4 on Mountain Lion successfully?

Whenever you insert Disc 1 of Adobe CS4 and run the setup, you will see a gray screen pop up "preparing for setup". Typically after this screen, you will get to the usual selection screen of what components to be installed as well as prompt for serial number. However, in Mountain Lion and some Lion machines, CS4 will be stuck at the gray screen "preparing for setup" and be frozen at the last 7/8 of the bar. I do notice a disk partition being mounted and disappear, but then again, that was in Lion. Mountain Lion just refuse to load the selection screen for installation.

Sorry, I know this is an old thread, but I ran into the same problem, and my search brought me here. I finally figured out the issue. If you've tried installing and had the AIR error, and you've downloaded the latest version of AIR like you're instructed to do, then you try running the install again, it will treat it like a custom installation. You have to scroll down through the programs on the right hand side of the window and select the programs you want to install. Deselect Adobe AIR, Acrobat.com, and Adobe Media Player (they can be downloaded separately later), but select everything else, then click "Install". It should get you past the "Preparing for setup" screen - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/installation-creative-suite-4-or.html

  • Installing CS4 on Mountain Lion?

Dear peeps - could somebody help out please?
I bought a new Macbook Pro with OS 10.8.1 Mountain Lion (as the old one was beginning to die a death, being 6 years old). I have a perfectly legal copy of CS4 Design Premium, which I need to install on the new machine. However, as there is no optical drive and the software is on a disc - how do I go about installing it with minimum hassle/no extra expense...?
On other forums I am recommended to download a trial version, then enter the real product code - however it won't let me do this as the installer detects the download does not come from the App Store.
    Any ideas, anyone...?

    download the trial here:  http://prodesigntools.com/download-adobe-cs4-and-cs3-free-trials-here.html
if you see an access denied page, you didn't follow all the directions for downloading.
    use your serial to install/activate.
you should deactivate (help>deactivate) the copy on your dying machine.

  • PhotoShop Cs4 and Mountain Lion

Is Photoshop Cs4 compatable with Mountail Lion and if not are there plans to make it so?

You can bet your bottom dollar that there will be absolutely no changes or modifications to CS4, an obsolete and unsupported version not sold by Adobe for years.
Whether it is fully "compatible" with Mountain Poop, I cannot tell you.  Sorry.  In any event, CS4 for the Mac is 32-bit only.

  • I hate Mountain Lion! How do I get rid of menus?

I was hoping I'd get the Mac Book Pro with Lion, and I could wait for Mt Lion til it had a few upgrades of debugging.
I have a mail program problem that I have up here already.  BUT
how do you unenable these little menus/options that pop up all the time?  I don't use them.  I am just putting in a cursor to add something, correct a spelling, move something, bold something and these menus pop up that won't go away. I click and click and click and it takes forever to get them to go away so I can do what I want to do. Before on previous OS, once in awhile those menus would pop up and I would click to the side and they'd go away, and I'd go back to what I wanted to do.  Now these menus just won't go away. Keeps insisting I am going to use them or I'm not going to progress. A lot of times it isn't even items I want to do.
I just want to put the cursor in a spot and make a correction....I probably have put years of clicking on this brand new laptop already!
Hopefully someone can tell me how to disable them.  I'm ready to throw the computer in the garbage!

sorry it's taken so long to get back to you.  I've gotten the Kindle 'bug' and trying to get a book online by Oct!
ok, this is one of them. I found that if the top of the Safari screen, particularly, is too close to the Tool bar, it picks up the toolbar and won't let me do anything.  When I finally pulled it down away from there, then it got it out of the toolbar 'zone', but I'm used to putting the window(?) up right to the tool bar to utilize the whole computer screen. That was one issue.
I was trying to get birthdays off of IMDB, so I would go up, and normally click on the url, insert at the date, backspace, put in next date, and 'return' and it would go to the next page.  When I would do this with the new laptop, it would give me yet another type of menu (of course it won't do it now) and I couldn't get it to go away and let me just insert cursor and change date.  I had to click outside the spot about 10 times and try it again before I outwitted it and it gave up. On every url for EVERY page for 30 days or more. Must have aged the laptop a couple of years!  Before, well a) I never use these 'helpful pull downs" or whatever they are, but on the IMac or the MacBook before, when they came up, I'd just click off to the side - they would go away, stay gone and let me do I want to do.  Basically, I want to insert cursor and make a correction or insert something, and it insists I'm going to do it its way, making me click in 2-3 steps rather than a click or double click as I did before. . So many things on Mt Lion wants to click sequentially in 2-3 different steps on these 'menus', rather than just click on the word or insertion point. A lot of times the menus don't even refer to what I'm doing if I did use them.
ok let's see if I can put another one in the same.
I just want to disable them.  As the computer is 'breaking in' now doesn't seem to be doing it as much, but just as I think it is, then they pop up incessantly again.
This is another type - I might just want to change spelling, or delete....just want to insert cursor and be left alone, and it comes up with all this.  Maybe some people like it. I don't want to click any more times than I have to. don't want to go from menu to sub menu to sub menu, when I don't want any of it to begin with, or I can do it myself from the top where I'm familiar with it all with the program itself..
    Thanks.

  • Installing CS4 on Mountain Lion, CD is not recognised by the maschine

I recently got a hard drive on my macbook pro replaced with loosing all applications, so I have to reinstall them. Previously there were no problems installing premium CS4 suit, which I purchased and installed in 2009. But this time, even though application 1 cd runs perfectly, and at the point when it requires to insert cd2, and when I do so, my computer sees it as blank cd, and the installation quits. What is wrong with it now? As I've been told by your representatives that it is competable with Mac OS X 10.8. Tried to install 5 times, restarted computer, checked the cd is not damaged and remained unused for 3 years.
    thank you.

  • Will CS4 Master Suite work on OSX Mountain Lion

I want to upsgrade my macbook pro but I am perfectly fine with the older versions of PS & AI and really cant justify the monthly fee for using CC

    Hi Lyngr,
Minimum system requirement for CS4 for Mac OS is X v10.4.11–10.5.4. However, you can install CS4 on mountain lion.

  • CS3 or CS4 compatibility with Mountain Lion?

Will CS3 or CS4 run on a Macbook with Mountain Lion?

    Hi there
You shouldn't have any problems using CS3 or CS4 on Mountain Lion, according to this Adobe blog: http://blogs.adobe.com/photoshopdotcom/2012/08/osx-10-8-mountain-lion-released.html
You can also check out this FAQ page for more information about Moutain Lion compatability: http://www.adobe.com/products/creativesuite/faq.html#lion-os

  • How do I remove mountain lion?

I want to return to snow leopard. The only reason I upgraded was for dictation, which I did not know was only 30 seconds (useless). Additionally, I now cannot use favorite programs because they aren't compatible with mountain lion. I hate mountain lion.

    I agree wholeheartedly.
I had Leopard, and skipped an updated OS to Mountain Lion.
In my opinion the improvements are mostly superficial, and don't exponentially show a marked
improvement in the function and speed of my computer (IMac 27" dual 3.06 woth 4 GB Ram and a 1 TB hard drive).
Things such as "Notes" or "Reminders" (which seem the same to me) or Launchpad are just 3 examples of "cosmetic" improvements, none of which I bother with.
Mountain Lion also came with an "improved" Safari  6 which is slower than the previous version, and seems to "stick". By "stick", I mean that if I go to a sight and then click on something, I cannot move to that window.
I purchased the upgrade because of the price, so I'm not bothered by the $ 20.00. However, I wouldn;t have missed much had I not spent the money for the "new and improved" version.

  • InDesign CS4 hangs on Lion 10.7.5

    Hi guys,
Nice to meet you'all. Am new here.
We have a problem using the inDesign CS4 program after upgrading our switching to the Lion 10.7.5 version. Previously it was running fine on another Macintosh on Snow Leopard.
Right now as we run it, the software just randomly hangs forever, leaving just the spinning wheel. The only thing I could do is to force quit the application, and it goes on and on!
It's been ongoing for a few good days and searching the forum doesnt give me a definite answer... would really appreciate any leads on this.
    Much thanks!
    Chris

It's hard to tell without knowledge on both Macs and how you installed CS4 on both of them. Are both Macs intel? Did you do a clean install from a disc? Download? Did you try trashing the prefs on open? http://forums.adobe.com/thread/526990
    See: http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/known-issues-mac-os-10.html
For what it's worth, I can run CS4 on Mountain Lion (10.8.2) so it's more likely to do with the individual system setup rather than the application.

I just baught a new imac from the apple store and loaded mountain lion when I got home due to the time it would take there.  I then used migration assitant to load CS4 from my mac pro that is using snow lepord.  This worked flawlessly. CS4 and Bridge work great.  I then downloaded the mountain lion upgrade to my wifes mac pro that was also using snow lepord and once mountain lion was instaled it disabled CS4 compleatly.  I will repost the results tomorrow. I believe that I can reinstall CS4 to her mac pro now that she has mountain lion installed using migration assistant from my mac pro since it worked this way with the new imac.  I hope this works because I want to upgrade my mac pro to mountain lion but can't afford to lose CS4.
