Contribute CS4 problem

I have used several versions of Contribute. The most recent install is Contribute CS4. The computer I have been using suffered a hard drive crash and had to be replaced. In trying to reinstall Contribute I am unable to get beyond the 30 day trial because I don't have the serial number of the previous install. Please help me. I use this product to update a website for a non-profit arts group.

You will most definitely need the serial number to go beyond the trial. If it wasn't neccesary, everyone would be doing it.
That being said, if you registered the product with Adobe (you did register, right?), they will have that information available in your Adobe account. Sign in at https://www.adobe.com/account/sign-in.adobedotcom.html?returnURL=http://www.adobe.com/.
If you did not register, a call to customer support (be ready to prove that you own the software) may be in order.
Good luck.

  • Deactivaton Problems with Contribute CS4

I need to know how to deactivate adobe contribute cs4.  I've tried searching and the only advice I have been given is to click 'Help -> Deactivate'.  That's all well and good, but when I open contribute there is not a help button, or the normal toolbar you get on most programs.
    My situation:
I use this program for work, so I initially installed it on my works computer (Registration 1).  However, the program does not work on this computer for an unknown reason (adobe have been unable to help me).  So I then installed it on my personal laptop at home (Registration 2).  It worked fine.  However, I then got a new computer.  So I unistalled contribute from my laptop and installed it on my new computer (Registration 3).  Now, this works fine too.  However, it has stopped letting me use it because I have too many registrations so I need to know how to
    1) Remove the registration from the copy on my work computer and
    2) Remove the registration from a computer that I no longer have (and that no longer has the program installed)
Any help you can give me is much appreciated.  As I type, I have the phone cocked under my ear.  I've been on hold to adobe for 26 minutes so far, so I am not expecting a quick response from them.
They were quick enough to take my payment for the product though.  No half hour wait on the phone THEN.  But that's another issue!

You may be more likely to get help with this issue if you ask in the Adobe Photoshop forum:

    Good luck.

  • Contribute CS4 on Windows 7 64 bit - Attempting to edit existing website results in a blank page

    Hi,
I am an IT Tech and not an Adobe Contribute user so my apologies in advance for wrong terminology.
I just installed a new Windows 7 64 bit PC for a client and installed their copy of CS4 Contribute.
When they attempt to edit their website the page being edited ends up blank.  We can't work out why.
The same software was on an Windows XP PC and is the same website that they could edit previously without any problems.
Can anyone assist with settings or advice on potential incompatibility issues?
    Thanks
    Chris

    Chris
This one is most likely related to permissions - Contribute simply does not have access to write the temporary file, but still attempts to anyway (resulting in a file being created / cleared on the server, but no actual information being written to the file).
This still appeared to be a problem even when running the application in Administrator mode.
I may get flamed by the super security-concience techs, but this worked for me:
Find the location of the temporary site / draft folder (default is C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Adobe\Contribute CS4\en_US\Sites)
Select the folders in the "Sites" folder
Right-click one of them and go to "Properties"
Click the security tab and click "Edit"
    Add the user "Everyone"
Select the "Everyone" user and check "Full Control"
    Hit OK, then OK again
I can't guarantee it will work, but see how you go.
    Thanks
    Dan

  • Contribute CS4 ignores template changes?

First, I'm new to Contribute. I understand the general idea
of what it does and how it works, but I'm clearly out of my element
on how it works with template files.
I'm setup as an administrator on a Contribute CS4
installation on WinXP. I can edit and publish pages with no
    problems.
Except this: When I modify the template files for the site
(obtained from the server, modified, and replaced on the server),
the new modifications are not appearing in the newly-published
pages. I've verified that I'm working on the correct template for
the particular page, and I've even made sure to "refresh templates"
a couple times in case that worked. I've even gone so far as to
find the drafts of the pages I've been working on and make sure the
templates stored on my hard drive are properly updated (they are).
Am I wrong to expect Contribute to incorporate updates to the
template file? Am I being a complete bonehead and missing something
obvious (wouldn't be the first time)?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I've just had to update 100+ template based pages on a
Contribute site. I ended up having to use Dreamweaver exclusively
    for the change.
Contribute does not seem to be "aware" of template updates
when you update a template based page. When you edit a page based
on a template that has changed, it doesn't apply the change or give
you any means of applying the change.
Also, when I attempted to use Modify-Templates-Update Current
Page on a page in Dreamweaver using the File-Actions-Edit Page
Source in External Application, Contribute went, well, berserk,
acting like I wanted to change dozens of pages and files in the
site. Lots of manual clean-up after that.
So, I just used only Dreamweaver to update all the pages
based on the template, as well as updating the template itself.
It's possible to "break" a Dreamweaver template by updating the
    template with another editor.

  • Contribute CS4 for Mac crashes

I have Contribute 3 and tried to used it in an Intel Mac and it crashes on launch, so I thought I need an upgrade and last night
I bought Contribute CS4 and I have the exact same problem: It crashes on launch I have to force quit it.
Before I had a Trial version and it worked fine, is when typed in the serial that the trial version froze, so I downloaded a new one
and after installation go fine, then I clicked "Launch the App" and I only get to see the splash window, then it crashes.
A few hours ago I discovered that I need the serial for Macromedia Contribute 3, can someone please tell how I get that serial?
    I registered at Macromedia.
    Thank you

This is an ongoing problem I was associated with the following thread
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/1049444?tstart=0#1049444
but it has been closed because it has been 'answered'!  When I searched for this thread I could not find it and I only have it because I found it in an email to myself (almost as if Adobe is trying to hide it!)
I am still having the issues and have had to
delete all reference to Contribute CS4 in Library/Application Support and Library/Preferences.
    Relaunch Contribute
Go to Contribute --> My Connections and Check the 'do not connect to websites at startup'
    Re do your site Connection
This may work for a while but the problem is certainly not fixed.  I manage my school's intranet and have up to 100 people connected.  We ahve foolishly just upgraded to CS4!!
Good Luck, hopefully Adobe may reopen the discussion on this matter and actually fix it.  Ironically, every time it crashes the Adobe Crash Reporter does not open so Apple get 20 reports from me a day!

  • Contribute CS4 wouln't recognize my customization

I solved this but am posting it in case it helps someone else.  I copied PMModules.js from \Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Contribute CS4\Configuration\Commands to \Documents and Settings\
\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe Contribute CS4\Configuration\Commands  I then edited \Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe Contribute CS4\Configuration\Commands\PMModules.js so that RUA_TAG_SPECIFIC_ATTRIBUTES, instead of containing   ol: { style: 1 },  now contains  ol: { start: 1, type: 1 },  so when I import a table from Word having the following Word HTML:    Sample Text
it would retain the start attribute. But it doesn't. It still seems to be running Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Contribute CS4\Configuration\Commands  I get        Sample Text
the same results even if I rename my custom version to PMModules.js_hide and restart Contribute.  I finally figured out I have to put the custom PMModules.js in  \Documents and Settings\\Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe Contribute CS4\\Configuration\Commands  and it worked fine.

I found the problem was my clients fonts were all lower case ie "arial"  while mine started with upper case ie "Arial" I just mapped to the corresponding fonts on my system.

  • Contribute CS4 Crashes Using Vimeo Links

We recently started posting videos on Vimeo and tried to add links on our website (using Contribute CS4).  We can create a link to any Vimeo page but then Contribute will crash when editing any text or when looking at the properties of the hyperlink.  If I remove the Vimeo link the crashing problems immediately go away.  This happens even if the link is just to http://vimeo.com.
We will consider upgrading Contribute if this problem goes away in newer version, but we don't want to spend more on Contribute if the problem also exists in newer versions.  Anyone else having this experience?

    fitpuppy wrote:
questions:  where is the InDesign Defaults file?  and, most importantly, how can I fix this problem?  It's really hard to work w/o a links panel.
If replacing prefs will work (no promises, but sudden flakiness like this is a good candidate), you'll find all you need at Replace Your Preferences
If it doesn't work, post a link to the crash report as John suggests and he can probably give you some insight into what the problem is.

  • Contribute CS4 authplay.dll error on launch

Clean install of newly purchased Contribute CS4 on client system that exceeds system requirements. Upon initial launch, error RE: authplay.dll and program goes not further than initial splash screen. Can only kill the process at that point to close it.
    What is the solution?

I purchased three copies of Contribute CS4 to be installed on Win XP machines. One laptop runs without errors. The two desktop machines give the error "Contribute has encountered a problem and needs to close" and "AppName: contribute.exe        AppVer: 5.0.0.3264                ModName: authplay.dll
    ModVer: 10.0.0.521 Offset: 00205ce6".
I ran a search for authplay.dll on the troubled systems and found multiple versions; I rolled the file back to 10.0.0.508 which I found in Program Files/Adobe/Adobe Utilities/Extendscript Toolkit CS4.
This seems to have fixed the problem, at least for now. I am able to open Contribute on all machines as of this writing (however I fully expect the Adobe Updater to undo my efforts with the file in question the next time it runs).
    Hopefully this may help others.

  • Contribute CS4 reinstall - import previous site settings

I have reinstalled Contribute CS4 Mac from DVD after a disk crash.  I have a full time machine backup of the previous disk. How can I restore the previous Connection and Website settings?  I am the administrator and want to be able to access all the previously configured group and editor settings.
I trying restoring ~/Library/Adobe/Contribute CS4 which appears to contain my old site settings but they don't show up in the new installation.
    Thanks,
    Robert

    1) Quit Contribute
    2) Restore "~/Library/Adobe/Contribute CS4"
    2) Also restore "~/Library/Preferences/Adobe Contribute 5 Preferences".
    Hope this solves your problem.

  • Contribute CS4 not showing up during install

I'm trying to install Contribute CS4 on a PC running Windows 7.
I've had it up and running using the same installer previously, so I know that it works (I also tried downloading the files again but the same issue returned).
What's happening is, that the installer runs fine but only shows me the option of installing various smaller adobe programs - not Contribute.
I've tried uninstalling and running the cleaner tool but the issue is still there.
What can I do? I need the software for maintaining a website.
    Thanks in advance.

if you follow all 7 steps you can directly download a trial here:  http://prodesigntools.com/download-adobe-cs4-and-cs3-free-trials-here.html
and activate with your serial number.
if you have a problem downloading, you didn't follow all 7 steps, or your browser does not accept cookies.
the most common problem is caused by failing to meticulously follow steps 1,2 and/or 3 (which adds a cookie to your system enabling you to download the correct version from adobe.com).
failure to obtain that cookie results in an error page being displayed after clicking a link on prodesigntools.com

  • Contribute CS4 hates Mountain Lion, or vice versa

After upgrading to Mountain Lion, I found that Contribute CS4 did not open.  In searching for an answer I found the following on the Adobe forum:
"Earlier versions of Adobe Photoshop (CS3 and CS4) software were also tested with Mountain Lion and there are currently no known issues."
So continuing to search, two days of frustration ensued as I "chatted" with 2 unhelpful Adobe customer support reps, searched unhelpful Apple and Adobe websites and posted my question in various places.  Finally I found that the above statement was completely wrong when I received the following from an Adobe staffer:
Mountain LION is not a supported platform for Adobe Contribute CS4. The supported versions are Latest Adobe Contribute 6.5 and Adobe Contribute CS5.X.
And now I have to spend hundreds in order to maintain my website after upgrading to Mountain Lion.  I don't even know to whom I should take my complaint, Apple or Adobe.  Does this mean I have to research every piece of software I use before upgrading my Mac?  At the very least, Mac owners should be forwarned of platform support failures for major 3rd party producers. I'm doing my bit here.   How about you taking some responsibility?

"Earlier versions of Adobe Photoshop (CS3 and CS4) software were also tested with Mountain Lion and there are currently no known issues."
    and
"Mountain LION is not a supported platform for Adobe Contribute CS4. The supported versions are Latest Adobe Contribute 6.5 and Adobe Contribute CS5.X."
Do not mean the same thing.
Adobe probably DID test and found no problems with their machines using their configurations but they can't cover every possible configuration out there so there's bound to be some instances (or many instances) where it won't work.
Hence the second quote saying it is not supported...

  • Contribute CS4 Install error - ccmenu.xml

    Hi,
Trying to get Contribute CS4 installed for a user here at Notre Dame. It keeps telling us that:
"Contribute encountered problems while constructing the menus from the current ccmenus.xml file.
Please delete the current ccmenus.xml file and rename menus.bak to ccmenus.xml."
We do this, and that same error comes up every time. We uninstall and reinstall and that error comes up every time.
    Anyone seen this?
The machine is a new iMac running Mac OS X 10.6.2. It does not have any CS3 products installed just CS4.
    thanks,
    bart loeb, notre dame

Seems like an issue with media files, some of the content might be missing. Try to download CS4 from the below website but make sure to follow the "Very Important Instructions", mentioned on that website, carefully before downloading it.

  • Sending Publisher Connection Key gives Admin Rights in Contribute CS4

I manage numerous remote sites around the country remotely using Contribute CS4. Each site uses a common template with different header images and left navigation.
All of these sites function beautifully except one. On this particular site, sending a publisher connection key allows the user to connect to and edit pages on the site. However, the connection shows my (admin) email address, gives the user admin rights, and then puts a lock (.lck) file on almost all of the files, including the .CSS file. It also gives odd messages about workflow errors.
From my end on the Contribute Administer Websites panel, the user shows up as publisher, but on their end, they have admin rights and my email address displays on their connection
I tried deleting all of the files in the _mm and _notes folders and starting over, but this did not fix the problems.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
Did you try re-creating Publisher keys for them, and sending it to your client? Also, with the existing key which your client has, what is the Role information for that connection key? This can be checked in the My Connections dialog.
Where is your e-mail address being shown? If it is in the My Connections dialog along with the connection name, then that is because the administrator's e-mail address is shown there.
    Hope this helps.
