Contribute CS5 - cannot edit pages

I have just installed trial (full) verstion of Contribute and I connected, can navigate between pages etc without any problem in view mode.
However when I click the edit button it says (after trying to download the page and set up some files to work in): "Contribe encountered a network or file system error. Please try the operation again and contact the administrator if the error continues to occur." and does not create an editing page. If I do it again it creates an editing page but it is only the template and no text (apart from what exists in the template). If I add some text and publish it, it adds the text to the page I was editing adding it to the text already there (but which was not viewable in the edit page).
Any ideas why this is happening? I have never used this programme before. My provider has no idea why this is happening and is not familar with Contribute. Any help to resolve this would be appreciated. Thanks.

Please clear the preferences and try.
Delete the Preferences in Library –
Go to “<username>/Library/Preferences/”   and delete the folder  “Adobe Contribute CS5”
Delete the Preferences in locale -
Go to “<username>/Library/Application Support/Adobe/”     and delete the folder  “Contribute 6”
If the above doesnot help then check if there any other versions of Contribute on the same machine and clear them also along with CS5 and try again.
Check publishing a plain page from Contribute and reediting the same.
Can you try editing any other page with a different template ?
Could you try the same on any other machine and check?
Can you share the URL ?

  • Using Contribute CS5 to edit site created w/Dreamweaver - PayPal button size issues

I'm using Adobe Contribute CS5 to edit my web site that was built with Dreamweaver on a Mac.  I have a PC with Windows XP, 1G of ram, a 40G hard drive (used only for programs and operating system) a 1 terabyte external hard drive for all files, etc.  I use MSN Explorer for my browser.
I have done extensive editing and everything works fine except for when I edit or add PayPal buttons.  The site was built using "tables" for most everything as well as all of my price lists.  When I add a button or edit button properties, that row of cells doubles in height, in the "editing window" they look okay but when I publish the page they take on the doubled height.
I contacted Contribute tech support and they say Contribute is working properly and the problem is with how the button code was written in Dreamweaver.  The tech said even though the button looks like it is the proper size, the code tells it to take up more space thus giving me the cell height problem.  My standard price lists do not have any lines defining rows and columns but on one page I have been experimenting with I have given the table a line value of 1 to enable me to see what is going on, you can view this page at; http://www.hopscrimshaw.com/birds/owls1.htm
My Webmaster and I parted ways a few years ago so seeking help there is not an option, she won't return phone calls, reply to e-mails, etc.
Any help solving this problem would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks,   PapaHop

I am also having this problem and any answer would be greatly appreciated. The code <p style="margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 0;"> </p> gets added whenever text edits are made. This seems to create spaces on the page which pushes content out of alignment. The code gets put into the navigation, the text and anything above the text being edited, jpeg sliders, images, etc.

  • Cannot edit page

I have a problem editing one page on my site. When I was
publishing it the server connection was lost. Now no one can edit
the page. There is no *.lck file nor do any users have a draft of
the page. Contribute is not providing any error message; clicking
    the edit button does nothing.
Has anyone else encountered this problem? I am using
Contribute CS3 and CPS with 60 users.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I found nothing to
    address this problem within HELP.
    Fred

I am having a similar issue with one of my publishers.  She was editing a page and went to publish it but the publish button was greyed out (even though she is a publisher).  So she sent the draft to herself for review and was able to publish it that way.  After that neither of us could edit the page because it said that someone had a draft of it and was reviewing it.  So I went onto our server and deleted the .lck file.  Now I can go in and edit it (I am an administrator).  However, when she clicks the "Edit Page" button nothing happens.  Contribute just sits there.  This is the only page my publisher is having an issue with.

  • Cannot Edit Pages

    Hello All,
I'm new to DW so please keep that in mind. I have a site
that I need to tweak and have been able to edit most pages in that
site. However there are a group of pages that I cannot edit in any
mode.(Design or Code) Each of these pages displays in yellow at the
top right of the window "Template:internal" I'm not sure what that
means. I have looked at much of the code but have found no obvious
differences between the pages I can edit and those that I cannot.
Could someone help me understand what is going on here?
    Thanks, Jeff

Without a comfort level in HTML and CSS, anything will be
    trouble for you.
On the other hand, if you are not put off by looking at code,
    then DW's
templates are quite simple to understand and adapt to.
    > The site is quite large and has a few sub webs.
DW will not play well with sub webs. Each sub web must be
    treated as an
independent site in DW with its own site definition and local
    site (although
you could nest your local sites in DW).

Does your site's usage require a testing server? By that, I
    mean to ask -
are you using server scripting? If not, then you do not need
    a testing
    server.

  • Usernames with underscore at the begining cannot edit pages

    Hello,
I know that a username (short name) starting with an underscore “_” are reserved by the system accounts.
Anyways I wanted a character to differentiate users by their name and didn’t wanted to use the hyphen.
So with such users, the pen button is never available. You cannot edit their pages.
The fix is to not name your users using a underscore at the begining.
I wouldn’t consider this as a bug but worth to know.

  • Your role no longer valid error message and cannot edit page

Unfortunately I don't have access to the file, am asking on
    behalf of a
friend who is skittish about his skills navigating a forum.
    His question is:
When I open contribute, and select the website I want to
    edit..there is a
yellow bar across the top of the screen that says "your role
    in this website
is no longer valid. Click connect to update your connection
    with a valid
one" so when I click connect, it goes through some screens,
    then it asks
what folder on the ftp server the website is in? before there
    was this
problem, I could get into the page I wanted to edit, and make
    the changes,
then when I would hit the publish button the old page would
    show up..so I
could make the changes but they weren't publishing..but at
    that point I was
    getting no error message???
    He's having those two problems.
Any thoughts? I don't know diddly about Contribute. Thanks.

Hi, This is because SSRS requires a Login to connect to the datasource to process the report when subscription will be occuring at its scheduled time. I would recommend you to store the credential securily into report server.
GoTo: Report>Properties> Click on the Data Sources tab and you will see following options:
    a)A shared data source
    b)A custom data source
Use option b) and click on option Credentials stored securely in the report server
and provide credential information and further you can use options: Windows credentials and Impersonate the authenticated User if you require. Click on apply button.
*You can use any option of them provided in first option(a) also using the shared data source which is having credential saved into report server.
Once you have done with above you will be able to create subscription.

  • Cannot edit pages in SharePoint Designer 2007 "The Server could not complete your request...

    Hi All,
We are using SharePoint Designer 2007.When we try to open any page in designer we get following error,
"The Server could not complete your request. Contact your Internet Service Provider or Web server administrator to make sure that the server has the FrontPage Server Extensions or SharePoint Services installed"
If I click on Details button then I get the following message
"Object moved. Object moved to here."
Anyone experienced anything like this before?
Also when I try to edit sites when browsing on IE and than clicking on "Page" and "Edit in SPD2007" it's always
opening login.aspx site in SPD and that is the only one I can edit.
Kindly, please help me on this issue.

  • Cannot edit any pages - No Edit Page Button

I have a blog through blogger, with my own domain, standupsteals.com. I have added a connection to it in CS5, but I have been unable to edit retrieved posts. The "Edit Pages" button doesn't even appear. I haven't tried to uninstall/reinstall yet. I did delete the connection, and recreate it, but still same problem. I cannot administer websites; it's grayed out, along with a lot of other options. I am the only user, so I shouldn't be locked out...Any ideas?
I have tried to follow the simple directions...Go to my homepage; choose an entry. Once I choose an entry, Edit Pages button should appear, right? It's not happening for me...I get a quick message that says I am on a site I am not connected to. How can that be?
When I try to edit a page from within IE, I get an error "Cannot find the file on the server" Message was edited by: ladeebishop

    Hello Alpesh,
    Thank you for replying!
I had already tried to export the roles and replaced the Z: with Z_ before creating this message, but the upload attempts failed due to the explanation above.  But this time, I followed your (good) advice to delete the original Z: roles first, before uploading the corrected file.
Sadly, even after I deleted the original Z: roles prior to uploading the corrected file, I am still having no luck ... when I uploaded the file, again it (falsely) reports that the import was successful:
Import Status: 133 successfully imported out of 133 records found
After seeing that message, I quickly checked the roles, and none of the roles had uploaded.  So now I have ZERO roles.
Any further ideas?  I am thinking it may be something very small that is being overlooked ... perhaps certain buttons must be selected/not selected on the import screen?  Or could it be an issue with the file itself?
When I do the import, I only select the button for "From File ..." and retrieve the file from my desktop via the Browse button.  I do not select any other button, nor do I make a selection from the System or Role Source boxes.  I have just selected that one button only ... I've tried it with and without checking the "Overwrite Existing Roles" box, but neither one works.
The part that bugs me the most is that I receive what I perceive to be an inaccurate/bogus "successful" status each time I attempt the upload of the file.  At least if I had an error message, I might have something to work with to troubleshoot this.

  • Unable to edit link in Contribute CS5 (mac)

I am trying to edit a webpage in Contribute.  I create a draft of my homepage, and I am trying to edit one of the links.  However, other than a small text box, the mouse pointer is a circle with a slash through it, and thus I can't edit the link I need to edit.  This is Contribute CS5 on a Mac.  Any ideas?

    Did you create the site?
It sounds like the site was built using templates and contains uneditable regions or it's within an include file (or a few other possibilities). Do you have a link to the page that you can't edit the link on?
If so, provide a link to that page and let us know what link you can't edit and we can look.

  • Not able to edit editable regions in contribute CS5

    Hi there,
i got a question i need to ask according to the helpdesk i just spoke to. I've downloaded the Contribute CS5 trial yesterday and i wanted to show my costumer how to edit pages and create new ones. I've made the connection to the website and tried every possible thing but the only thing i can edit is the first editable region wich i always leave blank (the designer build in some hidden text there). The rest of the editable regions, named header and content can't be edited. How is this possible? This is only on the most existing pages. Creating new ones do not appear to have the same problems.
i work with contribute CS4 and everything works fine. I can edit pages fully and publish everything like it should be. To be sure i also downloaded the trial CS5 to my laptop and i got exactly the same problem as described above.
    How can help me out?
    cheers
    Jarno

  • Can Contribute CS5 publish to secured PHP pages?

I have created a site that has standard HTML pages and a members section that uses PHP pages with the Dreamweaver restrict access server behavior to limit access to authorized users.  I'm trying to use Contribute CS5 to update or create new secured pages (ultimately the client will do this) but it only seems to work for the static HTML pages.
When I open the login PHP page, I can enter the user name and password, but the page that I am then directed to (set us as part of the login user server behavior) returns a script error telling me "Spry" is undefined on a line that dosen't spry.  I can either continue running scripts on the page or not (same behavior results), edit the page and then try to publish it, whereupon I get an error saying that either the server is busy or I am not authorized to publish on the site.  But without exiting the app, I can then go to a static html page, edit and successfully publish it, so it seems that the problem is associated with the restricted access pages, as though session variables aren't being recognized.
    All help appreciated.  Thanks.

OK, found the problem. There was an incorrect path to a javascript file in my header navbar that only effected PHP pages that were in a file off the root.  All non-PHP pages, being in the root, worked fine.
So the bottom line is that Contribute works properly, and the problem was a path error that Contribute was in fact flagging.
Only wish that I had seen this before I changed all of the PHP pages to HTML and revised the login pages to so all of them I needed to update were non-PHP.  OUCH!
I guess I get 10 points for answering my own question... but not worth it.

  • How to unlock Frames in Dreamweaver so I can edit pages in Contribute

I use Contribute to update content.
Recently my designer added google-ads in frames using Dreamweaver.
Now my Contribute is not allowing me to edit pages where google-ads was added.
It says the frames are locked and shows the lock icon.
The designer who did the work in Dreamweaver says everything is unlocked in Dreamweaver.
What do we need to do:
    1. unlock the frames in Dreamweaver so I can edit the pages in Contribute
2.does the google-ad code need to be put in on each page rather than as a Frame?
