Contribute is locking up IIS

Hi,
Our client is using Contribute 4 to update an asp.net site.
He's been using it without any issues for months, but now he's
getting an error when publishing. Contribute attempts to publish,
but then gets a "cannot connect to server" error. This then
generates an IO exception where IIS appears to be hung. Contribute
saves a draft in his draft folder, and when he deletes the draft or
closes Contribute, he's left with a blank page (on the live site!),
and the IO exception has gone away. I can use my version of
Contribute without any problems.
Any suggestions? I had him disable his virus scanner and
reinstall Contribute, but so far nothing has worked.

I have been having the same problem with both Contribute 3.1
and CS3. It only occurs when I have a lot of links on the page. I
am now using spry menus and have a lot of links on every page and
so Contribute is locking up when I try to publish. Then you can't
use it again until you clear out the drafts. Without the spry menus
it was always just one draft page, but now with the spry menu it
grabbed all of my links to other pages and created a draft for each
one. I now have to clear out around 50 drafts. Can anyone help with
this?

  • Contribute CS3 Locking up pages

My client just began using Contribute CS3 and each time she
edits a page, then publishes, she can no longer access the page for
further editing until we unlock the page for her.
She'll get an error that 'this page is being edited by her
and not available to edit'. Or the message will say she's editing
    the page on another computer.
Has anyone else experienced this problem and if so, how did
    you resolve it?

  • Contribute CS3 locks up iMac

    Hi,
I have a friend who had been using the Mac version of
Contibute 3, then upgraded to Contribute 4 and now upgraded to
Contribute CS3. Here problem began about 8 months ago and she has
been on the phone with Adobe support for hours with no resolution
to fixing it. Her basic problem is that she can edit find but when
she goes to Publish her site, he computer locks up and she has to
unplug everything in order to get out of it. She uses Road Runner
connecting through a Linksys router and has to unplug these 2
devices to get her computer to boot again. Any idea what might be
happening with all of this. I don't use Contribute but I know that
there is a solution for her problem - anyone can give point me in
the right direction or a way to resolve this? She likes Contribute
since it's so easy to use. I tried to get her to use Go Live but
she didn't like it as much. Any input greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    David

    Hi again,
I did find out that my friend's problem is somehow connected
to the way Contribute connects to the internet. When I plug her
iMac directly into her cable modem, Contribute CS3 works
flawlessly. When I connect it to her Linksys router, it bombs her
computer everytime she tries to publish a page. Any ideas greatly
    appreciated.

  • Question about locking down IIS on an SCCM 2012 distribution point on a Windows Server 2003

Hello. My environment is SCCM 2012 SP1. I will be setting up several distribution points on Windows Server 2003 machines. This summer I have a project to configure SCCM to use our PKI infrastructure. Unfortunately, this will not be in place before I need
to set the Windows Server 2003 machines up as distribution points. I am not an IIS expert. When I set the DPs up, I am only 1)Installing IIS, 2)Enabling BITS extensions, and 3)Enabling WebDav. Is there anything I should do to ensure they are as secured as
    possible?

I would say that installing Windows Server 2003 is not "as secure as possible" due to it's end of support coming soon.
    http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/default.aspx?LN=en-us&p1=3198&x=10&y=12
And I would say that we need more information about your scenario to tell you how it is as secure "as possible". Since that would be shutoff at the bottom of the ocean. But that wouldn't be that useful server.
Im guessing that you will run these servers for internal
clients ONLY. And that you have a decent edge protection as well as physical protection. Then I would start by having the lastest secrutiy patches, running antivirus software and having the firewall turned ON. I would make sure that
only necessary logons would be possible and that the servers wouldn't cache any credentials. Typically a DP NEVER holds sensitive data so no real need to secure them more than that in a normal scenario if you ask me.
A final notice, this is a baseline
for a common scenario. You would need to scale and change that
in order to apply for your scenario.

  • Locked page in Contribute

I have downloaded the trial version of Adobe Contribute yesterday and am receiving the following message when editing a page: 'You can't perform this operation on this page now because (username) is currently editing or reveiwing it'.
The program was originally installed on another computer (version CS3) but crashed and we are unable to find the original software (due to multiple staff member changes since the time it was purchased in 2007) – when I contacted the support team they advised that I could either find the serial number and call back (which I have done but after holding for well over an hour and a half had to give up as I have a job to do) or download the trial version to patch up the site which is where I have encountered the above problem.
I have consulted the help section and looked at other online forums with no joy. There are no .lck files stored anywhere in our server or on the computer with the original software (which appears to the be logical explanation according to most other forum questions) and no pages are showing in Contribute as locked and as the other computer with the original software does not even open I cannot understand how it is still logged in as it crashed on opening rather than in the middle of a page edit!
Please can someone advise as our website needs urgent updating!

    Hello,
    Welcome to Adobe Forums,
Following are reason which can cause this error.
The user editing the page in IBE and closed the  browser without publishing or discarding the edits.
The page is currently being edited by another  user.
The publish operation for the page fails.
Contribute was forcibly restarted during the  edit process.
The reviewer has not ended the review, or is  inactive for a long time.
You may try the steps mentioned in the kb article linked below.

  • ColdFusion MX 7 locking up

One of our ColdFusion MX 7 servers is locking up about 10
times a week. Restarting the application server is the only thing
that seems to make it respond again. When it locks up, IIS returns
nothing. A browser will just try and try before the HTTP request
times out. On the back end, we have an ODBC connection into a
foxpro database (unfortunately). Our legacy application was built
on foxpro, and we are in the early stages of phasing it out. My
question is, 1) Is there any way to tell exactly what is locking CF
up? and 2) Is there any setting which I could set to possibly
alleviate the locking up, or at least minimize the chances of CF
    dying? Thanks.

    Look at Seefusion
    http://www.seefusion.com.
This app looks at Cf in real time and also has DB logging.
    Its a life saver.

  • Contribute CS5 - Getting Locked Out by WebDAV on Review

OK, we're using Contribute CS5 here, and we have writers who are sending drafts to publishers here, and we're using WebDAV.  Contribute is using WebDAV locking, so as a result it's not creating any .lck file, the locks are being kept track by a WebDAV database.
However, when a writer sends a draft for review, and a Publisher tries to Publish, they get the following error:
"someone else changed this page on your website while you were editing it.  What do you want to do?"
When they select to "publish your draft, overwriting the changes the other person made," contribute responds with the following error:
"access denied.  The file may not exist or there could be a permission problem."
It looks like the only option would be to publish the draft as a new page.
When I go into Dreamweaver to see the check out information, it tells me that it is checked out by "Adobe Contribute."
I saw a few threads on this issue before, but none of the resolutions worked.
I saw one suggesting that I disable rollbacks, but rollbacks aren't disabled.
I saw this thread: http://forums.adobe.com/message/112454#112454 which said to give people permission to the _mm and MMWIP folders, but they already have Read/Write access to those folders.
The only way I am able to break the lock is to access the files using the service's web interface (which doesn't use WebDAV), delete the file there and re-upload the current copy.  I cannot seem to break the lock otherwise.
I don't know if this is a WebDAV issue or a Contribute issue, though the web server people seem to think it's something to do with Contribute.

    Hi,
According to this technote: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/194/tn_19469.html , Contribute supports only exclusive locking of files, and hence, the editor of the page can only publish the page, I think. So, you can log a Feature Request for this. The Feature Request link is: https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform&product=9

  • Contribute 4 writing locked code... WHY?

    Hi there learned chaps,
I've designed a site that will be content managed through
    Contribute 4. On
some of the pages I've got some small Flash applets which I'm
    feeding in
from asp variables. These flash applets are not editable
    regions, but when
my client goes in and adds anything in an editable region it
    seems to be
rewriting the flash script, and worse still it's buggering it
    up, even
though it should be locked code.
Here is was the code is like before it's touch with

How can I stop this from happening?
    Cheers,
    @ndyB

I've just written a detailed list of editing tips for our internal use that, in addtion to using "Paste Text Only", describe how to avoid or re-key Microsoft Office curly quotes and apostrophes, use only Contribute's Insert | Special Characters, etc.
In addition, I created a new role in which I made the following changes:
Under Editing, under“General editing restrictions”, checked the “Prevent users from inserting images (except shared assets); under “Paragraph spacing, changed so “Enter key moves insertion point down:” “Two lines, as in web page editors (uses standard <p> tags”; under “Other editing options”, unchecked “Allow multiple consecutive spaces”
Under Styles and Fonts, under “Styles and Fonts”, unchecked “Include CSS styles in the Style menu; unchecked “Allow users to apply fonts and sizes”; and unchecked “Allow users to apply font color and background color”.
Under New Pages, unchecked “Create a blank page”
Our initial experimentation indicates this eliminates most of the extraneous and junk HTML code that Contribute otherwise introduces. Time will tell. However, it requires contributors to be pretty rigorous.

  • Locking editable template regions to Contribute users only

    Hi,
I would like to know if it's possible to lock some editable
template regions to Contribute users only? We need to have these
regions editable through Dreaweaver so our site designers can still
modify them. I'm not talking about the "Optional region" here, just
    a "regular" editable region.
    Thank you,
    Stéphane Brault

there's no option to restrict access to contribute users only
when using Dreamweaver templates.. but a possible dirty workaround
would be to place those editable regions inside dynamic code (ASP,
PHP, JSP, etc..) as Contribute won't be able to interpret them..
they won't be visible in Contribute

  • Contribute CS5 modified "locked" areas of template

I am new to contribute for my clients to use.  I created a website using Dreamweaver templtes, then set up a client with contribute, as a "publisher".
The first time into a page the client added a section to an editable region, but the file as saved to the server by contribute had several empty paragraphs distributed through the uneditable ("locked"??) areas, breaking the layout.
Is this a feature, or a bug?  Is there something I should have done differently in setting up the users? (I took most or all defaults, as I recall).

OK, it has happened again, on a completely different site with a different user and (obviously) different template.  Here's the piece of the page which the CS5 Contribute "publisher" broke:
               <!-- InstanceEndEditable -->
          </div><img src="images/contentRight.jpg" width="53" height="734" alt="content right" style="float:left;" /></div>
        </div>
            <div class="clearfloat"></div>
            <p style="margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 0;"> </p>
    <div id="footer">
                <p class="links"><a href="classinformation.htm">Class Info</a> |
                <a href="classes.html">Classes</a> |
                <a href="about.html">About Us</a> |
                <a href="register_choose.html">Register</a> |

            </div>
        </div>
    </body>
    <!-- InstanceEnd --></html>
I've bolded 3 items: the first is the template's end point for the editable region; the footer should not be editable.  The 2 changes show in the empty <p> above the footer div, and the addition of style attribute in the "webguy" paragraph.  Contribute should not have allowed those changes (I think they were made without the user even knowing about it).  The blank <p> tag broke the layout, forcing the graphics abart and adding a blank line.

  • Contribute Locking out editable areas

I am having a very strange problem that I am hoping someone

I am using Contribute CS3 and I can connect to site, but when I get into the edit screen whenever I click anywhere, I get the rainbow spiral and it literally takes 20 to 30 minutes to stop.  then when I click again to do something it starts again and I can't ever make any changes.  It says I also have an unpublished document but when I click on the "unpublished document" hot words, I go into spiral again.  what can I do?   I am on a MacBook Pro with snow Leopard.
