Contribute's Limitation

Hi
I have 2 web servers hosting identical websites. We have a central Deploy server behind these 2 web servers. Our web editors can map network drive to the shared folders on the central server and update html files. I have replication software configured on central server to replicate html files from the central server to those 2 web servers.
Is that possible to use Contribute in our environment? In order to create a connnection (Local/Network), I need to enter a http URL first, and then I enter the website's shared path on central Deploy server, it gives rror "cannot verify your connection information".
When I use Contribute to connect to a standalone server, it worked fine.
Does anyone have any information?

Help! Can't edit pages

Hi all, please help a newbie!!
I have recently started working for a charity which had a
Dreamweaver website. I have Contribute 3 for editing purposes, but
I can't change a lot of things and it doesn't make any sense.
Unfortunately the company that produced the website for us in the
first plave has gone bust, so I have no access to any help from
them. I have checked that I have full administration rights.
The main problems are:-
1. The pages are set in 2 column format, which I don't want,
but I am unable to change this
2. I can change font style/colour/alignment etc etc on the
home page of the site, but on all the others this is not possible
and I am only offered a choice of 6 pre-set styles which are awful
3. When I edit a page in Contribute it appears correctly, but
when I upload it to the site the text and images are misaligned (I
am making sure that I am using the correct file types for images).
I therefore have to keep editing the page and shifting things about
and then publishing it until I get everything to line up correctly
on the site.
4. One of the pages says that I am unable to edit because
another user is already editing. This user is a member of staff
that left over 2 years ago.
Sorry if some of this may seem basic, but I have done
tutorials and read books, and I can't see any reason why I
shouldn't be able to do all the above with full administration
rights. I've been thrown in at the deep end here!

Hi,
First of all Contribute is limited and in many cases you won't be able to change styles, colors, etc.
We have a similar case here and the two column format is on our stylesheet and cannot be changed.
Depending on how much control and how the styles were set up you may also see styles displayed differently. Usually the styles displayed are the only ones allowed to be used on that specific page. Doesn't mean something is missing. You can contact the Administrator to confirm whether the styles are correct for the pages you mentioned but I've never seen a mistake on setting the styles up.
As I mentioned above Contribute is limited. You are working without looking at the codes. If something is not being displayed correctly users cannot do anything but they should communicate the problem to the designer so he/she can fix in Dreaweaver.
This employee had probably left a draft without publishing. The fastest way is contacting the Contribute Administrator and ask to unlock the page. This can only be done within Dreamweaver. This will probably delete the "new content draft" but since you mentioned he left two years ago the content is definitely old.
Again remember that Contribute won't give 100% power and sometimes designers have to finish the users' work. Keep in mind rights to edit the web site are given according to the needs and is up to designer or the Web Team to change layout. I am just mentioning this because you told that you don't want the two column format but this was probably created and decided by the Web designer to fit the needs of the company. I myself administer many users and every day I have someone asking to change some styles. Unless affects functionality none of the styles are changed.
There's always a chance for you to get something changed if you can have some input to the web site since it's a charity you may have great chances to get what you need.

b) Monitor limitations myay contribute further (limited gamut on LCDs)
c) There will be banding once it goes to print
In conclusion: You can't fix it unless you change your design. Large, uniform gradients are always problematic.

Share Feature - Document Library - Contribute Users getting: Only a limited amount of people are allowed to share this content

Hi
I am getting the following error when users with contribute permissions try to share an individual document from a document library.
If I upgrade the user to full control they are then able to Share the file ok and not get the above error.
So what I am wondering is should users with contribute access be able to Share the document? If not then why is the Share option available?
Which permission level if I edit the contribute permission levels do I need to add, I cannot see any Share specific permissions for lists and reluctant to give contribute users access to modify permissions?
I'll continue troubleshooting to see if I find the solution but wondered if anyone in the community had come accross this? Googling the error message
Only a limited amount of people are allowed to share this content brings up nothing.

Personally I think this is created by design, because it happens a lot that content is shared with users which do not have access to a SharePoint site and/or library. So I guess we do not have another option..
Programmatically the above could be done by setting the "SPWeb.RequestAccessEmail" property with a valid e-mail address. For example the site owner's e-mail address. Setting the "SPWeb.RequestAccessEnabled" property is not allowed and
is automatically done by settings the "SPWeb.RequestAccessEmail" property

Does Apple TV contribute to Wifi download limits?

I'm currently living in an area of the UK where wired Internet is a problem, so I'm using an EE 4G Router which unfortunately gives me just 15GB of Internet to use each month.
I have unlimited data on my iPhone 5S and was hoping to use the "mirror" capability of Apple TV to stream services (Netflix, SkyGo etc.) from my "unlimited" phone to my TV as opposed to using my Xbox (which causes me to rapidly use up my 15GB Router limit), so my question is:
Will streaming from my iPhone to Apple TV use up any of my Wifi (say, from the Apple TV streaming it off the phone) or will it be able to use my bluetooth to stream and I'll incur the internet download usage on my iPhone?
Any help would be appreciated!

If you are using Airplay will need to be on wifi (which would use up your 15GB), unless you use peer to peer airplay.
Peer to peer would require not only the 5S running IOS 8, but the latest Apple TV (rev A, model 1469, released early 2013) running firmware 7.0

Please help with Contribute issue- Adobe or anyone!

My issues are many- I don't know where to start. First, as a long-time Adobe customer, I can not believe how support has declined- I really miss my "support package" from the early 90's when I spoke with a person who really knew how to address my problems and/or questions. I am so tired of being outsourced to someone who has no idea how to address my problem- only to send me to "Document #8932023912 03" off of the Adobe website. I want to talk to someone who KNOWS and APPRECIATES this product, and who understands its internal behavior (like what I get when I call MAC SUPPORT). I will pay for it! I have invested thousands of dollars on Adobe software and am now at an unacceptable standstill.
My small business relies on the Adobe Creative Suite 4 and the Contribute program. Up until now, I have never had a complaint, especially after moving to Mac a few years ago. Troubles started after two things (still not sure what the culprit was) - installing Snow Leopard and installing a Wacom Bamboo tablet (on the same day- my bad). Well, Illustrator, Photoshop work just fine as well as my other non-Adobe programs. But I can't even open InDesign (will post this on the proper post) or Contribute. So Apple had me deduce that I needed to create a new User and try things there. I eventually migrated to this new user but still, I cannot use Contribute.
I have set permissions with the program and contents of the folder- in addition to my Contribute keys to no avail. I can't even open it. Nor can I open it in my Root user which at least lets me run In Design. I am at a total loss and I need to update a website for my client. PLEASE someone, I would so greatly appreciate any advice or instruction as to how to run Contribute on my new user. Or in my Root user. I just need to get it to open! Reinstall did nothing PLEASE HELP.
A special note to anyone from Adobe: I want to talk to someone via a support package-- NOT outsourced. Does this fee-based option exist? It doesn't seem to from the main support number. If someone can help direct me, I would appreciate the proper instruction to do so. I need to get my InDesign running again and I have already invested multiple hours, days with Adobe support with NO solution at all. This is unacceptable in my mind, especially for the moneys invested.

I totally share your views on Adobe period. I loved Macromedia., they also answered all my questions, then Adobe had to buy them out! I called them today (sales Dept., that's where they answer rather quickly., of course), they explained the following: You can pay for a live person, but the prices differ in that they come in packages. In other words, you can pay a flat rate per hour for one-on-one OR pay for one-on-one tech support 5 times per month, and the amount of times per month vary from that point on., and so does the price! I'm baffled! They are HORRIBLE!! . Like yourself, am on a standstill ever since I've been stuck with not being able to publish my site with current edits and it gives me a message whereas my own company name is "currently editing the page," so it keeps kicking out. I've tried everything, including but not limited to the following: going to the library and checking out books to troubleshoot; going on Adobe pages for support as well the Help features on the software program., etc...I'm exhausted! ADOBE you guys need to reassess your Customer Care Support and your outsourcing business as well!!! YOU WILL LOOSE YOUR CUSTOMERS RATHER QUICKLY!!

SQL Server Express Performance Limitations With OGC Methods on Geometry Instances

I will front load my question. Specifically, I am wondering if any of the feature restrictions with SQL Server Express cause performance limitations/reductions with OGC methods on geometry instances, e.g., STIntersects? I have spent time reading
various documents about the different editions of SQL Server, including the Features Supported by the Editions of SQL Server 2014, but nothing is jumping out at me. The
limited information on spatial features in the aforementioned document implies spatial is the same across all editions. I am hoping this is wrong.
The situation.... I have roughly 200,000 tax parcels within 175 taxing districts. As part of a consistency check between what is stored in tax records for taxing district and what is identified spatially, I set up a basic point-in-polygon query
to identify the taxing district spatially and then count the number of parcels within in taxing district. Surprisingly, the query took 66 minutes to run. As I pointed out, this is being run on a test machine with SQL Server Express.
Some specifics.... I wrote the query a few different ways and compared the execution plans, and the optimizer always choose the same plan, which is good I guess since it means it is doing its job. The execution plans show a 'Clustered Index Seek
(Spatial)' being used and only costing 1%. Coming in at 75% cost is a Filter, which appears to be connected to the STIntersects predicate. I brute forced alternate execution plans using HINTS, but they only turned out worse, which I guess is also
good since it means the optimizer did choose a good plan. I experimented some with changing the spatial index parameters, but the impact of the options I tried was never that much. I ended up going with "Geometry Auto Grid" with 16 cells
per object.
So, why do I think 66 minutes is excessive? The reason is that I loaded the same data sets into PostgreSQL/PostGIS, used a default spatial index, and the same query ran in 5 minutes. Same machine, same data, SQL Server Express is 13x slower than
PostgreSQL. That is why I think 66 minutes is excessive.
Our organization is mostly an Oracle and SQL Server shop. Since more of my background and experience are with MS databases, I prefer to work with SQL Server. I really do want to understand what is happening here. Is there something I can
do different to get more performance out of SQL Server? Does spatial run slower on Express versus Standard or Enterprise? Given I did so little tuning in PostgreSQL, I still can't understand the results I am seeing.
I may or may not be able to strip the data down enough to be able to send it to someone.

Tessalating the polygons (tax districts) is the answer!
Since my use of SQL Server Express was brought up as possibly contributing to the slow runtime, the first thing I did was download an evaluation version of Enterprise Edition. The runtime on Enterprise Edition dropped from 66 minutes to 57.5 minutes.
A reduction of 13% isn't anything to scoff at, but total runtime was still 11x longer than in PostgreSQL. Although Enterprise Edition had 4 cores available to it, it never really spun up more than 1 when executing the query, so it doesn't seem
to have been parallelizing the query much, if at all.
You asked about polygon complexity. Overall, a majority are fairly simple but there are some complex ones with one really complex polygon. Using the complexity index discussed in the reference thread, the tax districts had an average complexity
of 4.6 and a median of 2.7. One polygon had a complexity index of 120, which was skewing the average, as well as increasing the runtime I suspect. Below is a complexity index breakdown:

Before trying tessellation, I tweaked the spatial indexes in several different ways, but the runtimes never changed by more than a minute or two. I reset the spatial indexes to "geometry auto grid @ 32" and tried out your tessellation functions
using the default of 5000 vertices. Total runtime 2.3 minutes, a 96% reduction and twice as fast as PostgresSQL! Now that is more what I was expecting before i started.
I tried using different thresholds, 3,000 and 10,000 vertices but the runtimes were slightly slower, 3.5 and 3.3 minutes respectively. A threshold of 5000 definitely seems to be a sweet spot for the dataset I am using. As the thread you referenced
discussed, SQL Server spatial functions like STIntersect appear to be sensitive to the number of vertices of polygons.
After reading your comment, it reminded me of some discussions with Esri staff about ArcGIS doing the same thing in certain circumstances, but I didn't go as far as thinking to apply it here. So, thanks for the suggestion and code from another post.
Once I realized the SRID was hard coded to 0 in tvf_QuarterPolygon, I was able to update the code to set it to the same as the input shape, and then everything came together nicely.

I just discovered today that my MacBook has a "stuck" pixel. I read that the display has to have at least 5 dead/stuck pixels else Apple is not going to repair it, is it true? My warranty expires in 1 month so I can't really wait for 4 more pixels to die or get stuck.
Temporary fix:
I know that this is something I can't really repair myself, but I tried some things such as changing the display resolution to it's "Full" 2880x1800 resolution and It actually reduced the size of the stuck pixel.

Contribute CS4 only shows browser Window?

Hi All,
I have a bizzare issue that I can't seem to find anyone else having.My Contribute CS4 is only showing the browser window. This means I get no File, Edit, that sort of thing. It is super frustrating because is severly limits what I can do.It also means I can't resize the window, much less move it. It is basically set in size and location (the center of my screen). I have deleted the preferences folder and registry entry to foce them to be rebuilt, but it didn't help at all.
I'm sure this is something simple, but I have tried every key combination I can think of, none seem to be working. I've attached a screen shot so you can see what I'm talking about.
Just as an FYI, I'm running Windows 7.

Yes the menu bar within Internet Explorer is showing. It is frustrating because I literally cannot do anything other than hit ALT+F4 to close the application or click on things showing within the area in the screen shot.

SharePoint 2013 workflows requires site level contribute access or higher

I have a SP 2013 workflow on a list that resides on the root of the site collection. All users have
contribute rights to this list, to the
Workflow Tasks list, and to the Tasks list. But all general users have only READ level access to the site.
If users go to the list, click on any item and either try to initiate a workflow or check status of a workflow (by clicking "..." and choose workflows or check item checkbox and choose workflows from ribbon), they get an error of "This site
has not been shared with you" as it tried to bring the user to http://<root site collection>/_layouts/15/workflow.aspx
I have tried this with a custom workflow, an out of the box workflow and the result is the same every time. However by granting any user CONTRIBUTE level access to the site resolves the issue immediately. I have also gone back and tried this
on a SP 2010 VM and this was not an issue then. You could do the same thing in 2010 with only read level access to the site.
So is this a limitation now with 2013 or a bug??? Surely, the system can't expect that a user needs contribute level access to the entire site just to initiate a workflow of one list.
Please advise.
*This READ level access is very important because the root site is extremely publishing heavy and needs to be controlled and maintained by only a select group of users - not everyone that needs access to the workflow.

I went into the masterpage gallery library and added the users to the read permission level. They are still having the same issue.

Is precise image editing possible in Contribute?

I designed a site for a client and gave them a guide with
precise instructions for the sizes of images in different layouts.
The problem is, Contribute doesn't seem to allow for *precise*
image editing. For instance, I have a layout which uses graphics at
106x106 pixels. The client has photos from a digital camera that
they need to crop/resize to go into this layout. I can resize the
shorter dimension to 106 by entering a number in the toolbar.
Theoretically, I should then be able to simply crop the image to
106 in the other dimension. But as far as I can tell, there is no
way to crop something numerically, and the width/height fields do
not change dynamically as I move the crop window. So the only way
to do it is visually, by trial and error. Which means I shave off
enough that it's close, and then try to count the pixels as I move
the crop window, and hope I haven't moved it two pixels in one
move, or its UNDO and try again.
A related issue: is there any way for the Contribute user to
change the dpi of an image? They often shoot photos at a higher dpi
for using in print, and it would be nice if they could reduce these
photos to 72dpi in Contribute. The whole point of my recommending
Contribute was so they could update their own webpages just using
this program. If they have to call me to modify images, or purchase
a separate piece of software just to crop/resize images adequately,
then that really defeats the purpose of their using
Contribute.

Thanks for posting this. I'd not discovered the right-click
menu that allows for cropping, rotating, etc. This seems a very
useful feature.
Having found it I thought I'd see if I can find a way to do
what you're looking for, but unfortunately I can't find any way to
set the crop width and height either. I suspect that without an
external application, such as Fireworks (pay) or Gimp (free),
you'll not be able to crop the image to a specific size other than
through the trial and error approach you're using.
Also, I could find no way to reduce the DPI of an image, but
to be honest this doesn't surprise me, as this is more of an
advanced feature and Macromedia sell a product capable of this. You
did mention that you recommended Contribute so your client could
update their own web pages, and while graphics are included within
a web page, they are separate files and for the most part will
require a separate application to update them.
My suggestion would be to get a separate application for the
image, but you're not limited to purchasing one. One pretty good,
and FREE, editor is Pixel Editor (
http://www.iconempire.com/pixel-editor/index.htm)
which should be fine for reducing DPI and cropping, as well as a
host of other features. You could also try GIMP for Windows (
http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net
- an open-source product), which is also free and very well
respected in the open-source community. However, both these will
require your client learning a new product, so I concede to your
initial point of kind of defeating the point of using Contribute,
except that you'd be hard pressed to find a similar product to
Contribute for web page design that include the feature you're
needing.

Foreign JMS Server Limitation

          Iam facing a limitation with Foreign JMS server.
          We are tyring to migrate from Message Bridge to Foreign JMS server.
          Our current setup is
          We have 3 MQ queues which are bridged to one JMS destination(queue).The MDB is consuming messages from the weblogic queue.
          If we want to replace this setup with Foreign JMS server the MDB can connect to only one MQ queue.
          We want the MDB to consume messages from all the 3 queues.
          How can we acheive this ?

U should take my reply with a grain of salt because I'm pretty new at this stuff but I don't think it's within an MDBs design to listen to more than one queue/topic so therefore you'll have to create additional MDBs that either listen to each foreign queue individually and do whatever your single MDB is doing with the data now or create the n MDBS (where n = number of foreign queues currently bridgin to the one) that then publish to an intermediate topic which your existing MDB can listen to.
          Hope this helps, figure if I'm going to be pounding the boards with questions I should try to contribute where I can ;)
          And also, if you do setup the foreign JMS provider feel free to take a look at my topic and provide your experience if you think it will help :D

Contribute and Dreamweaver / Network Drive!

Hi All!
Due to security limitations, the site I manage has no ftp
access (the entire site is uploaded to a remote server each time as
a zip file). Also, we have no local testing server so the entire
site is actually administered on a local network drive. I have the
site set up in Dreamweaver but we have Contribute on a second
machine in the office and I'd like to set the site up so that I can
administer it through dreamweaver while an editor would be able to
make simple edits through Contribute.
The editor can connect to the local drive with Contribute
without issue but I'd like to enable Contribute compatibility in
Dreamweaver to allow check-in/check out. In the 'site definition'
dialog in dreamweaver, under the 'Contribute' category, I checked
'Enable Contribute compatibility' but it also asks for the Site
Root URL. However, this site has to be administered on the local
network drive (I tried using the path as the site rool url) so I
can't figure out if it even going to be possible to set it up to
work.
Is it even going to be possible to set up the site,
Dreamweaver and Contribute to work together on a local drive
instead of an actual server?

In the site setup section there is a Contribute tab. Checkmark the "Enable Contribute Compatibility". It should walk you through the setup steps. It's been some time since I set one up so I can't recall exactly what you do. I do remember it wasn't particularly difficult. Hope that helps.

Limited searching on Group share, can't automount

Hi, OS X Server newbie here, but I'm starting to get a decent feel of how things work.
I have set up OD and the client computers up with mobile accounts that store their home directory locally but still allow authentication. I lumped the appropriate users into a group, say "officegroup", with their own share, /Groups/officegroup.
Now, once clients log in to their workstation, I cannot get the group share to automount. To access it I have to go through Finder, enter the username and password, and it works fine. I thought that upon login, authentication would be good to go to access other services and the user would not have to enter their username and password in again. I've checked DNS (dig, dig -x, -checkhostname, etc.), and everything checks out fine and says that it's all being resolved correctly. So, what am I missing?
Second, it seems that searching is limited in the group share. If I search for something, only folders come up, but no files. Spotlight is enabled on the share, I've rebuilt the indexes with mdutil, but nothing changes. Any ideas?

I wanted to write what I found out in hopes of helping someone else who uses OS X Server and isn't as experienced as some people who contribute here. When I upgraded to 10.4, I was using Netinfo domain and Open Directory to bind my clients to the server. In WGM I had to authenticate to LDAP, for reasons I still don't completely understand. I wasn't however, correctly using LDAP for authentication across my network.
I used Server Admin to migrate my Netinfo domain to LDAP in Open Directory. Then I turned on DHCP in OS X Server and turned off DHCP on my router. Then I used DIrectory Access to configure LDAP to use DHCP-supplied addresses and added an entry for my server. I disabled Netinfo on each client once I verified that this worked.
Once this was done the automounts showed up in the correct location as specified in WGM. And no, you don't have to create the folders on the client machines. In addition, my authentication for my users has been fixed to use LDAP properly (well, at least as far as I can tell at this point).
All of this info is in the Open Directory and Authentication Manual. The lesson I learned is that the OD stuff has to be properly configured otherwise services that depend on it will not perform quite right. What's scary is that I used this half-baked configuration since I installed Tiger a long time ago. I run a simple server-based enironment in my house, so I never picked up on the inconsistency.

Limiting the storage enabled nodes?

A somewhat common mistake in our development environment is that developers run test programs against our test cluster and forgets to specify that the node (JVM) they start should NOT be storage enabled. This causes re-balancing or even worse (when we during development run with backup count = 0 to fit more data into our test machines limited memory) data loss in the cluster when they shut down the node by killing it.
Is there a way to limit what nodes that are allowed to be storage enabled (in the same way as one can specify the IPs of the nobes that are at all allowed to participate in the cluster)? If this was possible we could set up a test cluster were no other nodes than the intended ones are allowed to be storage enabled and any other nodes trying to contribute storage would be refused to join the cluster!

There are a few improvements in 3.2 to configuration. First of all, eval / dev / prod licenses can now have specific overrides, to avoid accidentally using dev configuration in production, for example.
We also introduce a configurable "member role" in 3.2 which will eventually be used to drive configuration options (and was requested by customers to affect their own application behavior).
