Control DHTML layer from flash

I am working on my portfolio site www.pandadesign.com and in
the "book" section I want to call a DHTML layer with a flash button
but alas I do not know how to do this...So here i am asking the
Flash gods of the net for a little help..
alos i know there is a way to have the flash UNDER the dhtml
element, something to do with the embed tag...
Thanks
Ramachan

Not considering myself a flash god :-) but I maybe can help.
In the good old days you would use fscommand -- in Flash 8
there is a new way to do this with externalInterface. Anyway, you
would need to have a javascript function in DHTML that reacts on
the call from Flash and does everything necessary in DHTML.
There is no way to have Flash (or any other active-x object)
UNDER dhtml, by definition. You may find that setting the z-index
will work on some browsers, but not always and everywhere.
Some people help themselves by setting WMODE=transparent, but
even that is known to cause problems in some browser
configurations.
If you specify what exactly you want to do, and what version
of Flash you're using, I might be able to help you a bit more
constructively. :-)
Good luck

  • Controlling spry accordion from flash doesn't work in IE 8

    Hi all,
    I created a spry accordion in an html page and a little spry controller in flash, on the same page.
    The flash controller contains buttons that should trigger the accordion in the same page.
    here is the code I inserted in a flash button:
    on (release) {
    getURL ("javascript:acc_ricette.openPanel('mypanel_ID'); return false;")
    where mypanel_ID is the ID of the accordion on the page.
    When I click any flash button this works perfectly in firefox and chrome, but it doesn't work in IE 8 and Opera.
    The accordion itself (not using the flash buttons) works in all browser.
    Is there a solution

  • How to SHOW/HIDE a dreamweaver layer from a flash button?

    I have almost 2 weeks tying to find a solution for this. Please help...
    -How can you SHOW/HIDE an thml-dreamweaver layer from a flash movie button.
    My html layer name is LAYER1, and my FlashMC botton name is FLBOT1
    Now, what is the actionscript that im suppouse to place in the flash button?
    Please respond, Thanks

    Adobe removed Flash Text and Flash Buttons from CS4 for accessibility reasons.  Flash buttons aren't web friendly.  And if you use this approach, you'll need to work in Flash because DW doesn't write Action Script for you.
    That said, you could do something similar without Flash.

  • Flash audio controls is gone from the Windows audio mixer.

    Flash audio controls is gone from the Windows audio mixer. The sound is, but I can not control it separately from the browser. Previously, there was a separate flash and a separate browser. When I use FF3. *. Flash Player audio option was, but the new FF versions do not. For me it was very comfortable and loved.
    How can I repay such opportunity? and whether there is still a possibility?

    Thank cor-el, but it did not help. I tried everything ( I installed it all over again, several times , clean cookies I'm using [[BetterPrivacy 1.68|BetterPrivacy 1.68]] add-ons clean cookies ... ), but the problem is not in the Flash Player to crash. It works. But I can not manage alone plugin container volume and alone audio browser.
    I am not a programmer, so I do not know how I can change it yourself.
    Maybe someone already has it done? I would be grateful if you divide.

  • Controling Captivate Slide elements from flash widget

    I am creating a widget in Flash and I am able to control the captivate movie by widget. But I do not know how to control the elements (clickbox, highlightbox or images) appearing on slide.
    Is it possible to show/hide and image appearing in captivate slide from flash widget.

    I have the same issue.
    I have a button "Button_1" that I am trying to turn invisible, and have tried:
    var myRoot:MovieClip = MovieClip(root);
    var mainmov:MovieClip = MovieClip(myRoot.parent.root);
    mainmov.slide0__color_mc.Button_1.visible = false;
    Also tried:
    mainmov.Button_1.visible = false;
    Neither works.

  • Control Animation from Flash

    Hello,
    Does anyone know how I can control multiple animations (imported flash swf files) in a slide.
    These swf files are mostly 2 or more frames long with a stop on the first frame.
    I need to be able to click on them in Captivate 4 and advance to the next frame in the swf.
    Reading actionscript on these frames would be a plus.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Yes you can add pretty much what you want in the swf's you import into Captivate. That is really the beauty of it because it allows you to use some pretty advanced stuff directly in your Captivate productions.
    You can also implement communication between your swf and Captivate to allow advanced integration betweeen the two. You can see a list of the different variables here: http://www.captivate4.com/2009/04/28/system-variables-in-captivate-4-%e2%80%93-a-complete- list/

  • Since upgrading to CS6, fxg exports from flash are missing elements, is there a fix?

    With CS5.5 I could export vector art from Flash and open it in illustrator. Now with CS6  I cant do that without breaking everything apart if flash first. This can cause masks to be lost and is a lenghty and complicated process. If I don't break everthing apart not all the layers are imported on the fxg when opened in illustrator. Does anyone know of a solution for this?

    Above is a screenshot of artwork in flash. Below is the result after exporting an fxg and opening in illustrator.
    It does work if I go into the group and then export (or break everything apaprt so they are no longer in groups). Some files I work with have loads of grouped elements with layer masks making it very complex to break apart and export as fxg. Previous versions allowed export in one step, I could then unlock layers or show hidden layers in the illustrator file. The masks would be imported too.

  • How to diagnose flickering exported JS animations from Flash CC?

    Quick stats on my system:
    Macbook Pro Retina 2012 running OSX 10.9.3
    Flash CC 13.1.0.226
    I'm not experiencing an error so much as a lack of understanding about how to diagnose Flash CC JS export issues. Here's the backstory:
    In 2012, my company started working with an contract sprite artist. I was using the CS5.5 Creative Suite, and we were exporting normal png sequences from Flash for use in the game. After about 8 months, my cofounders and I realized that we could both reduce the load time for the game and also allow our artwork to be dynamically scalable by switching to JS exports of our art rather than the raster sprite sheets. Here's the blog post we wrote about it: http://blog.codecombat.com/hacking-our-way-to-vector-artwork-in-html5
    At the time, I didn't have Flash CC, and was reliant upon the CreateJS plugin to export the required JS files: CreateJS Developer Center | Adobe Developer Connection After another month or so, our contractor upgraded their version of Flash and we started having compatibility issues reading FLA files, so I upgraded as well. After doing some reading, I concluded that the CreateJS plugin was now incorporated into Flash CC as the HTML5 doc type, which was confirmed when I checked out the publish settings and resulting files.
    This is all a rather long winded way of saying that we have legacy artwork created with an older version of Flash but are now importing all of our artwork from JS files.
    Fast forward to today and we have two big issues:
    1) We can't figure out how to reduce the filesize of JS exports. As discussed in our blog post, vector artwork has upsides and downsides. One of the downsides we've found is that complex art that uses a lot of shapes ends up being substantially larger (in terms of filesize) than the appearance might otherwise suggest. Raster exports skirt this because a pixel is a pixel, but vector exports scale with the complexity of the source FLA. I'm not a Flash expert, and when we get files that are particularly complex, Flash either runs out of memory exporting them to JS files or we get files that are far too large to reasonably use. To be clear, the "out of memory" error isn't a problem because even if Flash finished the export, the resulting files would be too large for us to use (plus, I've done some digging and found a tutorial for correcting the out of memory error). Our artist is not familiar with the intricacies of the JS Flash exporter, so when we get a file that's too big or breaks the export, neither of us can really figure out a way to correct the problem. We have three questions in particular:
         a) Where can you view shape data that Flash is going to write to the JS files?
         b) Is there any way to edit said shape data inside the Flash CC interface?
         c) Is there any way to optimize shape data in Flash? For instance, in Photoshop, you can flatten images and export a psd with 500 layers as a single JPEG, is there any way to do something similar to shape data in Flash?
    2) Exports frequently break in weird ways. Many of the sprites that we created a year ago haven't needed to be re-imported into our game engine for some time. But every once in a while, I need to go back and fix, improve, or tweak an existing sprite, and then I run smack into the issue of reconciling files that were created without thought to JS exports with our current system. Just last week I was running into this issue in a big way and I made a screencast for our artist (since we work remotely) that I hoped might give him a better idea of the problem: Flash Errors - Treasure Chest, Flippable Tile - YouTube
    The two files mentioned in that screencast are both old (treasure chest) and new (flippable land tile). We have a few questions:
         a) Why are the treasure chest frames "flickering" in the html5 preview? The problem doesn't appear inside Flash and is inconsistent between files. There are two FLA files: one in which the treasure chest is empty, and one in which it's full. The empty animation doesn't throw any errors, either when converting to the HTML5 doc type or on export, but the resulting animation flickers. The full treasure, on the other hand gives me 21 lines of these errors when I do the conversion (not when I export): "Blend Modes(Layer) is not supported in HTML5 Canvas document, and has been converted to Normal in an instance of Movieclip <Path>." The result in both cases is the same: the animations flicker, and neither our artist nor us can figure out why, or for that matter, even begin to troubleshoot it. This SO issue seems to describe the problem, but was never resolved, and I can't find anything else that seems to address it: CreateJS Publish of Flash Project Flickers - Stack Overflow
    I've uploaded the files involved to a public dropbox folder which I think you'll be able to access (Dropbox seems to be having some problems at the moment): Dropbox - flash_debugging
    Since my questions are fairly involved, and my goal is to gain a better understanding of the UI, not simply resolve an error, I'd be happy to pay for someone's expertise/time in getting me up to speed. You can get in touch with me at george [at] codecombat.com

    Hi George,
    I have taken a look at the files full_treasure_chest.fla and flippable_land.fla that you have shared via drop box and found that they both uses blank keyframe(s) followed by Keyframe(s). This was an issue and has been addressed in the latest release Flash CC 2014 (released on 18 June, 2014). Can you please install the latest build 14.0.0.110 and try this out?
    Thanks!

  • Opening an HTML popup from Flash, not as tab

    Hi
    I need to open an HTML popup from Flash (using ActionScript in
    Flex 4).
    Thus far I found a solution, and it does work in Safari - a new
    and separate HTML window is popped up (with a new web page).
    private function popUpTheHtmlEditor():void {
      var url:String = "http://www.adobe.com";
      var request:URLRequest = new URLRequest(url);
      try {
        navigateToURL(request, '_blank');
      } catch (e:Error) {
        trace("Error occurred!");
    But in (my) Firefox (with my settings), when I click on the Flash
    (Flex) button, the page is being opened in a new tab.
    I need a solution which pops up the HTML page in a new/separate
    window, as far as possible regardless of the browser (and browser
    settings).
    I found an example where a popup is opened from HTML, and it opens a
    separate window (a real popup) in my Firefox:
    http://www.gtalbot.org/FirefoxSection/Popup/PopupAndFirefox.html
    -> "Open a requested popup"
    The JavaScript code seems to be:
      OpenRequestedPopup(this.href, this.target); return false;
    with this function def:
      function OpenRequestedPopup(strUrl, strTarget)
        if (WindowObjectReferenceOfRequestedPopup == null || WindowObjectReferenceOfRequestedPopup.closed)
        WindowObjectReferenceOfRequestedPopup = window.open(strUrl, strTarget, "top=" + windowTop + ",left=" + windowLeft + ",width=" + windowWidth + ",height=" + windowHeight + ",menubar,toolbar,location,resizable,scrollbars,status");
        else
        if(WindowObjectReferenceOfRequestedPopup.focus)
          WindowObjectReferenceOfRequestedPopup.focus();
    How could I call such code from ActionScript? Should this work through
    ExternalInterface? I couldn't even get this to work:
      ExternalInterface.call('alert', 'foo');
    Should I use swfobject.js for embedding the .swf in the HTML wrapper?
    Any other ideas?
    The two files are pasted below.
    Here's the compiler command I'm using:
      mxmlc -output button.swf -target-player 10.0.0 flash_to_editor.mxml
    I'm running the examples locally (as files, not over http). Would it
    help to place the files on a server?

    Hi,
    Here's a solution.
    1. Make ExternalInterface work when files are loaded as local files:
    Go to
    http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager04.htm l
    In tab Global Security Settings: Edit Locations -> Add Location ->
    browse to the .swf file, add it. Make sure it's in the list (under the
    Edit Locations drop down, with a green check mark.)
    Now open the HTML wrapper in a browser (eg Firefox).
    Now this works (ActionScript):
    private function popUpTheHtmlEditor():void {
      ExternalInterface.call('alert', 'foo');
    On Windows: perhaps:
    http://techjig.blogspot.com/2008/03/flash-global-security-settings-windows.html
    "In order for external interface functions to be called, you must also
    specify the folder/file where the swf file is located."
    The above setup isn't necessary when the files are on a server.
    Also see:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/FlashPlatform/reference/actionscript/3/flash/external/External Interface.html#call()
    ""ExternalInterface" "
    "call() method"

    "Using the ExternalInterface API to access JavaScript"
    2. Open a real popup: Example:
    ActionScript:
    private function popUpSomething():void {
      var editorPathOrUrl:String =
        'wrapper.html';
      var windowName:String =
        "SomeNameSeeDocs";
      var windowFeatures:String =
        "toolbar=yes,menubar=yes,location=yes,scrollbars=yes,resizable=yes,width=500,height=700";
      ExternalInterface.call(
        'launch',editorPathOrUrl,windowName,windowFeatures
    JavaScript:
    function launch(editorPathOrUrl,windowName,windowFeatures) {
      windowRef = window.open(
        editorPathOrUrl,windowName,windowFeatures
    Works in all browser I tested except Opera.

  • Opening a new browser window from flash

    Does anyone know of a method fo opening a link in a new
    window in firefox from within flash that isn't blocked by the popup
    blocker. It seems like the security in FF 2.0.0.6 (I'm on 2.0.0.11)
    has been tightened to prevent any _blank or window.open calls from
    flash getting through. I've tried the standard getURL, fscommand
    and ExternalInterface call to a javascript window.open method.
    Nothing now works.
    I understand the need for the popup blockers, but this is a
    legitimate popup only invoked on user interaction (click) - the
    same window.open call in an onClick event outside of flash works
    fine and I guess it is blocked from within flash because there is
    no way of knowing if the call is invoked from user interaction or
    automatically - but seems a shame.
    So any other way of getting a new browser window to open from
    within flash in firefox?

    Use target="_blank" in your form declaration.<FORM METHOD=POST ACTION="someAction" TARGET="_blank">The _blank keyword tells the browser to load the results in a new window.
    If you need more control over your window (size, address bar, etc.) you'll need to use javascript.<SCRIPT>
    function submitForm(windowName){
       newWin = window.open("",windowName, "menubar=no,resizable=no,...");
       document.myForm.target = windowName;
       document.myForm.submit();
    </SCRIPT>
    <FORM NAME="myForm" METHOD=POST ACTION="some.jsp" TARGET="">
    <INPUT TYPE=BUTTON VALUE="Submit" onclick="submitForm();">

  • Switching from Flash to Flash Catalyst/Flex

    For the last few years I have been developing applications for project reporting. To explain this in simplest terms, my clients give me hundreds of reports and supporting documents, graphics, videos, etc. which I then condense and reorganize into a presentation/application in Flash. The project is then published as an .exe to be burned to CD ROM or DVD along with any supporting files and is then distributed to project stake holders, investors, etc.
    I'm considering the possibility of a switch from Flash to Flash Catalyst/Flex and want to outline what my needs are, here in the forum, in hopes that others now using Catalyst/Flex can help me decide if this is an appropriate move.
    Features needed:
    1. Basic animation, transitions, etc.
    2. Full Navigation (up to 3 levels) for up to 300 slides.
    3. Keyboard navigation (PageUp/PageDown) to navigate sequentially through the entire presentation.
    4. Linking into other applications and documents - Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.
    5. Full Screen Mode
    6. Slide Show Mode
    7. Search Features
    8. Slide sharing (via email)
    9. Video and audio w/controls
    10. Pan and Zoom w/controls (panning and zooming of graphics and .swf files)
    11. Scrolling (scrolling of text, graphics and .swf files)
    12. Interactive forms
    Can anyone please comment specifically on these features and wether or not they are possible using Catalyst and/or Catalyst/Flex in combination.
    Thank you all for any insight or suggestions.
    John

    With the exception of making fre-form animations (like a cartoon for example), everything you can do in Flash can be done in Flex considerably faster.
    The downside is that Flex applications (especially ones designed in Catalyst) are generally larger, and consume more memory. Personally, I never publish anything made in Catalyst without optimizing it in Flash Builder first.
    If the drop in operating performance isn't a deal breaker (most of the time you can't even notice it), then I would certainly consider moving to Flex going forward on new projects.

  • How to use an dynamic text from Flash in FlashBuilder with swf ?

    Hello,
    i'm trying to develop a game in flex builder and i got a problem with the dymanic text i've imported from flash. I want to insert a scoreboard in my application and for doing that i should use dynamic text in flash. I create a dynamic text in flash and then a import it to Flash Builder in a movie clip, and i called the dynamic text "Score". Now i've tried to use the "Score" variable to change the value of the dynamic text box un my flash builder application, but it doesn't change anything.
    I read somewhere that i've got to use the score.text value to change the number of my score but that doesn't works because Flash Builder tells me that this sort of variable don't contain the .text value.
    Thank you for trying to help me.
    bye.

    Thanks Ned,
    I always welcome learning something new.
    I did not know creating a new keyframe,
    creates a new instance.
    Yes, I had used the same dynamic text field instance name in
    numerous, new layers (great observation).
    With the objective to display the User's name throughout
    the timeline (on and off)...
    I'll attempt to paraphrase your solution;
    Use a single layer to display the dynamic text field.
    Extend this layer's timeline throughout the movie, or end use of the dynamic text field.
    Help with this one ??
    Set the visible properties to true or false as need through out the timeline.
    ( Does require an AS3 ? )
    I'll give that a try.....
    ~~
    Side of effect of using the above solution;
    The SWF in it's attempted state, uses the dynamic text field instance, in
    different places, different text sizes, on the stage, throughout the Movie.
    (i.e. the User's first name appears in different sentences...)
    Per the solution above,
    I believe I will be limited to One location, one format setting.
    Is this assumption correct?
    I can make this work from a display / Movie point of view.
    However, your first VAR concept, noted above, might be
    worth exploring should more flexibility be required.
    Thanks for making the time to coach...

    That is the window error in Windows XP (i'm using a Mac skin). I try exporting to QT using in the Flash settings the Flash Player versions 7, 6, 5 and the same.
    I need any idea, because i have an animation to convert to video for a presentation, that include music and sound FX.
    This is all that i have:
    - Windows XP SP1
    - Adobe Flash 8
    - QuickTime 7.1.3
    - No more ideas
    Thanks to any help. I appreciate so much.

    Flash playback has been disabled (security issues) in
    7.1.3 and you'll need to turn it back on.
    QuickTime Control Panel/Advanced tab. Check the box
    that says "Enable playback of Flash tracks". Quit and
    relaunch QuickTime for this change to take effect.
    When "Publishing" from Flash you need to choose
    version 5. Newer formats will not play in QuickTime.
    Hello !!!!
    Really thank you, your help working very nice. Now i can export without problems.
    Thanks again.

  • Spry Tabs from Flash?

    I have Spry tabs on my page. I am trying to control which tab
    is active from a Flash movie on the page.
    In the HTML, I have a function:
    function switchTab(which) {
    TabbedPanels1.showPanel(which);
    In Flash, I have this actionscript (within an event):
    var which:uint = myList.getSelectedItem().tab;
    ExternalInterface.call("switchTab", "which");
    I have checked this by switching temporarily to a test
    function:
    function testing(which) {
    alert(which);
    And the alert box works and shows the number (from an xml
    parameter "tab"). But the switchTab function above fails. All the
    tabs just collapse when called.
    Note: if I hard code the function, as in:
    function switchTab() {
    TabbedPanels1.showPanel(1);
    and call just "switchtab" from flash, it does switch to tab
    index 1.

    I think I may have gotten it:
    var which:uint = myList.getSelectedItem().tab;
    ExternalInterface.call("switchTab", which);
    No quotes on the which.

  • Exporting from Flash

    Hi there,
    Could you kindly let me know if the latest version of Flash
    allows you to export to PSD or PNG, whilst also maintaining the
    layers.
    Thanks

    I thought they all export to png, but none export to psd.
    pngs dont have layer from what I understand. Flash CS3 will import
    a psd and maintain layers...
