Control-Eject combo function

I've got this new keyboard which is to me the best keyboard I've ever used.
However I have to get used to some changes, such as the command key being replaced by the super key. Or volume not working properly. Stuff like that.
But what I definetly want is the Control-Eject combo key that prompt you with Restart, Sleep, Cancel or Shutdown options. I'm trying to find out HOW can I actually prompt the message, using a command or some kind of keyboard emulation, then use it with Quicksilver (useful piece of software for creating and using macros and much much more).
The problem I have is I have no idea what triggers this pop-up in the system. Is it a system event? Is it some sort of special "character" that the keyboard sends? Does anyone have any idea about it?
Note: I heard and verified that this Control-Eject combo doesn't work on any slim aluminium keyboard, only on the older white ones. This lead me to think it's some sort of special command the keyboard sends ...

It works OK on my full-width wired flat keyboard, though the eject key isn't in the top right-hand corner but between F12 and F13. However if you have a Windows keyboard it probably doesn't have an eject key, so you are stuck as there doesn't seem to be any other combination to do this.
You could go to System Preferences>Keybord and Mouse>Keyboard Shortcuts and assign keystrokes to the Apple menu Restart, Sleep and Shut Down items.

10.4.9 control-eject not working

Hi all,
After the 10.4.9 update the shortcut control-eject doesn't work anymore on my iMac 24" and MacBook (both intel). Anyone that knows a solution?
The control-eject shortcut is for the Shut Down, Sleep, or Restart Options dialog.

This improvement seems to be undocumented and it should be explained as you have done.
I often hit that key accidentally, when reaching for the Delete key and it was annoying. Especially when the mechanical eject went through its motions.
Now, if you notice, when you press the Eject key, in addition to the delay, if there is no disc in the drive, the mechanism doesn't go through the eject cycle as it previously did, saving time and reducing wear on the mechanism.
Apple should document these changes in detail - I have not found this one in searching through their documentation.
I also use the key combo Option-Command-Eject to put my computer to sleep and after the update it took me a few minutes to realize that the Eject key operation had changed.

Word 2010 ActiveX control makes combo box malfunction

Good day. I'm teaching my students how to make electronic forms in Word 2007 / 2010.
As there is no radio button option in the content / legacy controls, I've tried using the ActiveX option button for this purpose.
However, as soon as I insert this control, the combo box malfunctions when I enable protection for filling in forms - it doesn't let the user enter their own value.
Can anyone tell me if I'm doing something wrong or are ActiveX controls just simply not meant to be used in Word forms without macros?
(Note: I know nothing about coding and the bare minimum about macros as that is not required in our curriculum)

In the 2007 version I am able to reproduce what you say.
However . . .
Using the Form Master on page 3 of 8 sometimes I was able to get MSoft into the Combo Box Content Control field and save it as
that.
The only way I have been able to edit the Combo Box Content Control in the Form Master section is when you first open the document
WORD defaults to that field and it's highlighted. Change the field at this point (to MSoft for example) then save the file and you'll see that the change takes.

Nokia N76's headset remote control ain't functioni...

The sound can be heard through the headphones but the problem is the headset's remote control ain't functioning at all. what is the problem and could anyone explain what are the functions of the 5 buttons located on the remote as there's no info on it? the battery is the CR 2032 what you need to do is ...
remove the pin that goes through the clip at the back. then remove the plastic clip from the unit to revel a small star screw. remove the screw and then flick off the front of the unit. then remove the main board inside and take the battery out. put new batterry back in and put it back together.
NOTE: the pin is very hard to get in and out of the clip to start and need to be done with great care or you will end up causing damage to the plastic and cant put the clip back on.
i went to a few jewellery shops to see if they would do it for me but no luck which ment me doing it and now im having to have the control hanging rather then clipped onto my clothes.

i was also told taht if its under 12months (which the battery only last about 6 months) then you will be covered under the nokia guarantee, however they dont like to take responsabliaty for it!
how stupid to have a unit with a battery that customers cant get to to change when needed...looks like just another way to keep their money comming in to them!

Control-eject shortcut to shut down stops working?

The control-eject shortcut and the disc eject button don't work anymore on my keyboard. I recently took an upgrade to 10.4.9 and had a few issues with the 'make alias' command in my Applications folder but repair permissions fixed that.
Now I notice this but I'm not sure if it started right after the upgrade or a bit later. Anyway, any suggestions on how to apply a fix would be welcome.

They still work but you have to press the eject key for 1-2 seconds, not tap & release like you used to:

Control panel and Function panel are empty

The Control Panel and Functions Palettes are both blank. How do I repropagate the panels with all related icons? LabVIEW repair does not repropagate panels. Thank You!

Did the palettes ever have something in them, or is this a new install.
First try just selecting a different menu setup. This should tell us if it's a bad menu file or all the vi.lib files have disappeared.
If that doesn't do it, open your file browser and navigate to "...National Instrument/LabVIEW X.X/vi.lib" and look in the sub directories and see if there are any files. Most of what's in the palettes comes from the vi.lib directory. If there's nothing in there, I'd do a complete uninstall, then reinstall and see of that takes care of it.

Command-Option-Control-Eject = Restart, not Shutdown

In the last few days, I think since upgrading to 10.6.8, the keyboard combination Command-Option-Control-Eject will no longer Shutdown my computer, but Restarts it instead. Why has this happened?

There is no shortcut for Sleep except to push the power button which will bring up the Sleep, Restart, Shutdown dialog. Here's a link to the standard shortcuts: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75459.
There are numerous utilities like ASM or iKeys (www.versiontracker.com) that will enable you to configure your own shortcuts. Unsanity's Magic Menu haxie will let you add shortcuts to menuitems as will their Fruit Menu (both add versiontracker.com.)

MP4 video poster controls no longer functioning.

MP4 video poster controls no longer functioning. Video loops back to the beginning even though the settings are to stop at the last frame. Also video is pausing on tap yet i have the 'Do Not Allow Pause' checked.
Double checked the publish setting and it's set to v23, which when these features were released.
Previous folios (published before v25) are working fine but new one using v25 tools is not working.

Stop at Last Frame works fine for me using the v25 tools.
Open your folio properties and make sure that v25 is selected. Then update the article containing the video. (In some cases, you can have a folio in one version with articles in a previous version if they haven't been updated.)
Let us know how that goes.

Control the combo box select of COPY FROM in Delivery Order

Dear all
I have a requirement where in the user wants to restrict the "copy from" button on the delivery order. They want the delivery orders to be created only from Sales orders.
So that would mean that i do a bubbleevent = false when any other row is selected in the combo box dropdown. But I am not able to get the control to the combobox.
In the system information it says that the form is "-9876", but couldnt catch any event on it either.
Any suggestions to control the selection of the "COPY FROM" combobox is most welcome.

How to control sequence of Function Modules processed in update task?

Hello,
I've some questions regarding following process that needs to be extended: a Function Module (FM) 'Save' calls several other FM e.g. 'X1' and 'X2' in update task. Those update modules are independent from each other and write data to the database that finalize the save process.
Now a third FM 'X3' needs to be called in update task. This one is also independent from 'X1' and 'X2' but it calls a further FM 'X4' in background task as separate unit which starts a job. This job requires the data from FM 'X1' and 'X2' already persistent on the database. By the way: the FM 'X3' triggers the Access Control Engine (ACE) notification that calculates the authorization data in the mentioned job. Therefore this process needs to be the last FM call in update task in the queue of calls in FM 'Save'.
Questions:
(1) Is it possible to control the process sequence of the FM 'in update task' simply by the sequence they are called in FM 'Save'.
(2) Presumed that all FM beside 'X3' have processing type "Update with immediate start" or "Immediate start, no restart" (in short V1) would it be another solution to specify FM 'X3' with type 'Delayed' to control the process sequence? When a delayed FM will be processed?
(3) Is it uncritical to call in FM 'X3' (already running in update task) the FM 'X4' with addition in background task as separate unit that furthermore starts a job by an event? I'm afraid that this nesting could lead to unexpected errors.

E1200 Parental control seems not functioning well...

I have a LinkSys E1200 wireless router at home. I set up the parental control, limiting the internet access between 8am - 11pm only. However, to my surprise, my son can still use the facebook to chat with his friends after 11:00pm! I found this a few times!!
I thought he downloaded some software so as to get around the router settings. However, he denied he did anything. While, with the other laptop, which is used by my daughter, the limited-internet-access-time-interval works fine: between 8am - 11pm only.
Any ideas? Thanks a lot.

Unfortuneately the web-based setup page doesn't give me that option. I have an E1200 Router, Firmware V2.0.04 and there is an "Access Policy" menu with the only sub-option of "Parental Control". There isn't an "Access Restrictions" menu with multiple options containing "Internet Access Policy". I verified that V2.0.04 is the latest firmware update, why do I not have this functionality?

Remap Eject to Function Key

Is it possible to remap the eject key to the function key. I don't need an eject button on the keyboard, but would love a function key there for one handed page up/down and windows-esque delete key.
The doublecommand software doesn't list that as an option.

Hi.
Are you absolutely sure your eject key is defective? Since 10.4.9, there's a change in the way it works, and you just have to hold it down for a couple of seconds to work.
If you want to open the tray, you can go to Macintosh HD (or whatever your drive is called)/System/Library/CoreServices/Menu Extras, and double click the Eject.menu file, and an eject ⏏ icon will be placed in the menu bar.
You can also use Terminal, typing at the prompt:
drutil tray eject
or
drutil eject tray
