Control F Windows- similar feature with Mac?

Hello,
When I wanted to find any word on a Word doc or browser, with Windows I would use Control F. Is there a similar feature with the Mac?
Loving the new Mac Book Pro!
Thank you!

You will find that many Windows keyboard shortcuts are copies of the older Mac ones, but substituted the control for our command and Alt for our Option which is now sometimes referred to as Alt as well.
There are exceptions however, usually the Mac ones are more mnemonic such as cmd Q for Quit rather than the Alt F4 of Windows.
Also you will see a recent summary of the easy to remember Mac keyboards for accented non-English characters.
There are summaries of some but not all keyboard shortcuts either under the Help menu or in Help itself, or on Apple's website in Support.

  • Can manually subscribe with Windows but not with Mac

For some reason I am able to manually subscribe to the below feed just fine with iTunes on my PC (Windows XP) but I get an error when trying with my iMac (OS X 10.5.8):
The error I'm getting with my iMac references "An unknown error occured (400)"
I was troubleshooting a different feed and am getting similar results: it works fine with the PC, but not with the iMac:
The error I'm getting on this feed however states "The file might be corrupted, or a file type that iTunes cannot play"
Can anyone think of why these feeds work with Windows but not with Mac? Any advice is appreciated!

The problem lies with the URLs for your media files. The one for the top episode is
    http://www.metalspeak.com/episodes/MetalsPeak 10 - GenresPeak.mp3
This URL contains spaces, which are not allowed in a URL. Browsers - and from what you say iTunes in Windows - handles this by substituting the code %20 for each space when requesting the file; iTunes for Mac does not.
You need either to change the filename for each media file, removing the spaces or substituting something such as an underscore, and then amending the feed accordingly: or at the least to amend the feed by replacing each space with %20.
It's the same problem in the other feed.

  • Is windows 8 compatible with Mac?

Is windows 8 compatible with Mac? can be bought & downloaded online?

Windows 8 is compatible with some Macs. Check that your computer is compatible > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5634
If it's compatible, follow these steps to install Windows 8 in Boot Camp > http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_10.8.pdf
Windows 8 can be purchased as a download from the Microsoft Store, but it's an upgrade version. If you haven't got an older Windows version installed on the Mac, you have to buy the System Builder version from eBay or Amazon, and in this case, you will have to install Windows 8 from DVDs

  • A free way to control a windows PC from a Mac

    Hi all,
My folks live a few hundred miles away, and I often need to help them with something on their Windows laptop. (Don't worry - their next machine will definitely be a Mac, now that they have played with my iMac!)
I would like to be able to remotely control their machine from my Mac (similar to how this is achieved where I work using WinVNC)
Ideally this software would be free, or a few dollars. Again, needs to be able to install on the Mac to control the windows PC. It will never need to operate in the other direction (i.e. they won't need to control my machine!)
Can anyone help? I would be v grateful for the saved 'over the phone' support, and my parents would definitely appreciate it!!!
    Cheers, Chris

The PC must be running Windows XP or Vista, and have Remote Assistance turned on. See:
    http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/mobility/getstarted/remoteintro.mspx
In their router (if any), port 3389 will need to be open and forwarded to the PC's internal IP address. See:

  • Opening a Windows iTunes library with Mac iTunes

I have my iTunes folder on a shared drive on my network. This was created in Windows XP using that version of iTunes.
I have a Macbook Pro and have access to the shared drive. I would like to use that same library so that I can preserve my ratings and playlists. However, if I attempt to open that library I cannot seem to (either the .itl or the .xml file).
Is there a way to share the same library across machines (and not using the shared libraries functionality)?
    TIA,
    -p

By design, an iPhone syncs or manually manages iTunes content with ONE COMPUTER at a time. Every time you change computers, all iTunes content is first erased from your phone, to be replaced with the content from the new computer. And no, there's no way to prevent this.
However, if you copy your iTunes library from your Windows computer to your Mac, you'll simple be replacing like content with like content.

  • Remote session via RDGW fine with Windows - not possible with Mac ...?

    Hi,
I've configured a fresh single RDS Server (all roles on one Server including Gateway) based on Windows Server 2012 R2. Everything works fine when we use Windows 7 with current RDP Client to connect via Gateway/HTTPS.
When we use a Mac (OS X 10.9.3) with current Version of "Microsoft Remote Desktop" (8.0.7), no RDP Connection is established. Error message: "Unable to connect to remote PC. Please verify ...". Login on <external.domain.name>/rdweb
works fine and I'm able to download the .rdp-file and open it with Microsoft Remote Desktop, but after a few seconds the error above appears.
I did some traffic analyzing on our Firewall and it seems that the Mac try to connect on port 3389 on the public ip of the RDS Server, which is blocked. I manually configured a RDP Connection with Gateway - same error. The log of Microsoft Remote Desktop:

I remember that there was an issue to establish SSO based on DNS resolve (external Domain Name to internal ip address via Gateway Connection); but we resolved this with a new DNS Zone. But why is it fine on Windows, but not on Mac OS X with Microsoft

    Many thanks,

  • Windows Cal Sharing with Macs

I have a team of five members who all need to be on the same page as far as scheduling and communicating confirmed appointments. Three of us have MACS (Macs RULE!!!) and the other two members have PC's (PC's are such a pain in the A$$!!!).
Now obviously between the 3 of us, we can publish a shared calendar and subscribe to each other's Cals. But we're leaving two members out because they only have Outlook.
We cannot figure out how they can subscribe to our published calendars (via FTP server) and we also can't figure out how they can publish they're cals and To-Do's so that we can subscribe to it through iCal. Is this even possible? I'm sure with technology these days, it's gotta be! I don't suppose Thunderbird for PC has sharing/subscribing features, no?

I am trying to access the files on my Windows
machine. I try connecting and a message comes up that
    reads
"The Finder cannot complete the operation because
some data in smb://''''''' could not be read or
    written."
    (Error Code -36)
This is an authentication error usually caused by the XP PC not having a password and/or the XP firewall blocking the file sharing.

  • New shuffle works with Windows but not with Mac

Just got a new 2nd gen shuffle. Initially it was formatted as Fat32 per Disk Utility on Mac. I reformatted to Mac OS (journaled). iTunes was recognizing the new shuffle on the mac and I created a playlist that showed it took up disk space in the "summary" tab. However nothing played on the shuffle when I disconnected it. I was trying to update the software but that function is greyed out. I tried to click "enable disc use" and when I applied it, it says it can't find the ipod. It wont let me update anything. The only thing I can do is create a playlist that the summary says is on the ipod but it doesnt play.
I then connected it to my Windows XP machine and it asked me to reformat the drive, which I did, then everything worked flawlessly. I would really prefer to download things to the shuffle from my Mac than Windows XP but it just won't let me. I tried using "iPod Updater" and the most recent one from the list was 03/2006 and that didn't help anyhting. "iPod Reset Utility" would not recognize the ipod to reset it even after I sucessfully set it to Mac OS journaled in Disk Utility.
I am very frustrated. This also happened to my Nano I purchased a few months ago and I have to organize it on the PC as well.
    I am running iTunes 7.2

I have exactly the same problem with my two
computers, both of which are Macs. The shuffle is
recognised on one, but not the other.
    Here's a screenshot of iTunes ->
    http://www.simongbrown.com/blog/images/2007/shuffle-no
    t-recognised.png
BTW, I also have an older white iPod in use on the
    Mac that doesn't work.
I've tried a few things (including running iTunes
under a different user account, reinstalling iTunes)
but nothing seems to help. The only thing left to do
is reinstall the OS, but that sounds a little extreme!
That's way too extreme... Use the shuffle Reset Utility.

  • How to put windows XP on with Mac OS X

OK, now I am able to get OS X back onto the Mac Book. I tried installing Windows XP with the disk that came with the computer. Got all the way to start up until it asked for a password. I didn't put in a password so of course it didn't recognize one. I am in the process of starting all over because I don't think that was going to work any way. My question now is after installing OS X, how do you get windows XP on too?

There are several choices, but three are probably the most common.
    1. Boot Camp, which comes with Leopard. Using this set up, you will need to reboot your MacBook each time you want to change from OS X to WinXP or vice versa.
2-3. Parallels Desktop or VMWare Fusion, each of which sells for approximately $80. These do not require rebooting, so are more convenient, IMHO (I use Parallels).
For all three of these solutions, you will need to install WinXP after setting up your choice of virtualization software (though Boot Camp is technically not virtualization). It is all really very straightforward.

  • Are plug-ins developed in Windows also compatible with Macs?

I've tried looking for this information, but couldn't find it. Plus I don't have a mac around to test it.

No. Windows plugins are ordinary Windows DLLs, Intel x86 architecture. Mac plugins come in a variety of executable formats, the latest (CS3,4) being a bundle containing a Mach-O binary with some combination of PowerPC and Intel architecture shared libraries.
But the bottom line is, a plugin binary for one platform is incompatible with the other.
It is, however, possible to write a plugin which can be built into executables for all Photoshop plugin platforms on Mac and Windows. Most of those on my site are like this: http://telegraphics.com.au/sw/

  • Iphone features with mac?

My contract is ending soon, and I just got a MBP so i was wondering what features i would lose with NOT using my MBP with an iphone.
so will things all sync like calendar, contacts, photos, etc from an android phone?
and will i be able to text throught bluetooth on andrioid phones?
I don't do much with my phone, i dont customize it or go crazy with it.  I just use it to browse web, call/text, gps, yelp, photos, etc.
speaking of maps...has the maps on iphone 5 been updated? how good is it compared to google maps?

You MBP will sync Contacts, Calendars, Reminders, Bookmars and other stuff with your iPhone through iCloud.
Yes you can text to other iOS devices and Macs from iPhone and Mac.
Yes you call with FaceTime to other iOS devices and Macs from iPhone and Mac.
Bluetooth has nothing to do with all these.
All these works via Wi-Fi or Cellular Network(3G or 4G).

  • I have 3 year old IPOD 20GB  installed in Windows not work with MAC

    Hello anyone who can help
my Ipod has the round dial in middle and the 4 buttons above it if this helps anyone. I bought it 3 years ago for $399
I installed it on my windows pc and always worked great
Now my Ipod software it came with does not work on my Macbook
Itunes recognizes the Ipod but all the songs installed are disabled
I tried to reset to original settings which formats everything and it did erase everything but cannot add my songs back from my Macbook
can someone give me a link to the software I can install? to reconfigure the IPOD to my MAC
Or is it that once it is configured to Windows you cannot use it to add or remove songs from your MAC???????????????????????
Please help - I want to give this IPOD to my sister and want to buy a new one
I never used more then 1 gig out of 20gb - has no video or photo options
    Thank you
    Edward

"Itunes recognizes the Ipod but all the songs installed are disabled"
    What does that mean? "Disabled"?
How are you tring to add songs from your Macbook? Are you using the auto sync option or manual?
When you say reset to factory settings, do you mean a restore?
See: How to restore the iPod to factory settings.
That would've installed the up to date software on your iPod.
Which computer did you restore it on?

  • Using Windows CS5 license with Mac

    Hello all,
I recently bought Adobe CS5 Design Premium as a download for my Windows desktop. However, I need to install it on my Macbook so that I can have it "in the field" ... I do a lot of web development, and I need to be able to do it on the go. I figured I could buy the Windows version, install it on the desktop, download the Mac trial, and activate both with the same serial. I even asked Adobe if I could do exactly that, and they said yes as long as they were both mine. When I tried it, the Mac would not accept the serial. Now Adobe Support is saying I need to buy another copy if I want to use it like that. Figures.
So I assume I just need a new serial for the Mac version as well. Yes, I could use a text editor, download GIMP, buy Coda, or use CrossOver/VMWare/BootCamp, but quite frankly I shouldn't have to and don't want to. CrossOver and VMWare cost money, and BootCamp doesn't give me enough battery life. Honestly I shouldn't have to pay another $2000 for the privilege of using, with slightly more functionality (actually it would be the functionality they advertised, and I wouldn't have bought it had they just said I could not do this ... but I digress), what I've already paid an exorbitant amount of money to have. I will refer to this xkcd comic: http://xkcd.com/488/
But anyways, does anyone know where and/or how I could get a Mac serial to complement my Windows version? They are both my computers. A full-fledged download link would be nice, too, so that I don't have to mess with the trial version stuff.
    Thanks in advance,
    roadkill

Adobe sells plaform specific licenses. I'm sorry you got incorrect info from whomever you talked to but if you want to use that Windows license on your MacBook I suggest visiting Newegg.com and buying an OEM version of Windows 7 Home Premium for about $99.
Install it using Boot Camp and then you can install and activate your CS5 Windows version there.

  • Windows USB Keyboard with Mac

    Hello
Can I use my windows keyboard with my Mac mini or must it be compatible (driver)
And when where do I get the drivers?

If the keyboard is USB, it will work properly when you plug it to your computer. If it comes with a receiver, you will need the drivers that you can find in its manufacturer's site. If you can't find drivers for that receiver, you can't use the keyboard with your computer
