Control key launches Mission Control

I have a new Macbook Pro (i7, Thunderbolt) that recently underwent upgrade to Lion.
Since then Mission Control launches everytime the user hits the Control Key. We have set all keyboard shortcuts to default and it did not correct the issue. This is just one of many of these machines we have and only this unit produces the result. Needless to say in this condition the control key is now functionally useless for anything else.
Any ideas?

hello, holding the ctrl-key while scrolling is the shortcut in firefox to change the zoom level on the page - in case you want to disable that shortcut enter '''about:config''' into the firefox location bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up) & search for the preference named '''mousewheel.with_control.action'''. double-click it and change its value to '''0''' (=zero).

  • Command + M to launch Mission Control

Somehow I lost my shortcut to launch Mission Control, and I desperately want to get my 'Command + M' shortcut back to launch it, instead of minimizing a window. I've looked everywhere, and tried everything. I have no idea how to add the 'Command + M' into the shortcut option like I'm showing the 'Command +D' for 'Show Dashboard'. Anybody have any suggestions? Thank you!

Nevermind! I figured it out. I needed to check the Mission Control box on under the 'Shortcuts' tab under System Preferences>Keyboard. Then I could change the shortcut keys combination.

  • Compiz launched in .xinitrc breaks keys, launched normally: ok

    I've found out something weird..
If I start compiz fusion or fusion-icon trough ~/.xinitrc or another script called by ~/.xinitrc then my up arrow doesn't work anymore + ctrl-c becomes ctrl-i (my layout is dvorak, c in dvorak is where i is in qwerty).
However, once I have my desktop I can killall compiz and restart it (or restart fusion-icon) or even do 'reload window manager' in fusion-icon, and then those problems are gone.
Also, I can just not start it in ~/.xinitrc and launch it myself manually when my panels etc are loaded.  Then I don't have the problem either.
Even when compiz/fusion-icon is the very last item in ~/.xinitrc, I have this problem
    Anyone an idea?

maybe if that "autostart feature" would reset the environment or something.
I'm using dautostart (see http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=57255 ) which is an xdg-compliant autostarter (xdg standards are also used by kde, gnome, xfce etc).
dautostart is launched from .xinitrc (I tried to change the position of the dautostart command in the .xinitrc file, but no change), and I notice the same behavior (eg compiz/fusion-icon launched through dautostart gives the same as when i launch compiz/fusion-icon from .xinitrc directly)

  • Mission Control won't a launch (except via Launchpad)

I updated this morning from SL to Mt Lion.  I wanted to set up Spaces (similar to what I had in SL) and I found that it's now done via Mission Control.  I've tried the various FKey ways (F3, F9) to launch Mission Control directly but the only way I could bring it up was to fire up Launchpad and then click the MC icon there -- or by assigning it to a hot-spot corner.
I've now set up my 8 Spaces so I guess I don't need to open Mission Control much and could probably live with bringing it up via Launchpad or the assigned hot spot.  But I'm curious about why it's not being invoked via the FKeys.  Any ideas?

    Try deleting the com.apple.systempreferences.plist.
You need to look in your user Library/Preferences for the .plist. Either hold down the option key while using the Finder “Go To Folder” command and select your user Library in your home folder or use the Finder “Go To Folder” command and enter ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist.  Move the .plist to your desktop.
Log out/in and test. If it works okay, delete the plist(s) from the desktop.
If the same, return the .plist(s) to where you got them from, overwriting the newer ones.
If you prefer to make your User library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below.
    Show User Library
You might want to bookmark the command. I had to use it again after I installed 10.8.4. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible.
If it soved the problem, you will probably have to reset some of your Preferences.

  • E and C keys on wireless keyboard activate Mission Control

I just set up a wireless keyboard with my Macbook Air. For some reason, the E and C keys activate Mission Control at random times. I went to System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts and restored everything to default but it still doesn't fix the problem. I also can't find any direct associations between these keys and Mission Control in the Mission Control setting. Help!

In case anyone is curious, I solved this issue by upgrading to OS X 10.6.4. The brightness and volume function keys now control these functions properly.

  • Position of desktops keeps getting rearranged in mission control

I would prefer that the sequence of desktops remain the same in Mission Control so that I can always view them in consecutively numbered order when Mission Control is activated. For example, sometimes when I launch Mission Control, the desktop labeled "4" appears immediately to the right of the desktop labeled "1", so that "2" appears immediately to the right of "4" and "3" appears immediately to the right of "2". I can remove all but the first and add 3 more to get the expected order back again, but the same occurrence soon follows for no reason I've yet been able to determine. How can I keep them from jumping around?
Oops, sorry, I see something in the Mission Control System Prefs that appears to address this: Automatically rearrange spaces based on most recent use. Hmm, I thought they were called "desktops" now. Never mind.

In the Finder, hold down the option key and select Go > Library from the menu bar. In the folder that opens, select the file Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist. Open the Info window. Do you have read & write access to the file? Is it locked? What is its modification date?

  • "Mission Control" does not show space row and I cannot add a new space (27 inch screen)

Firstly, "Mission Control" does not show upper row with spaces. I have configured Dashboard as space, but it is not showed either.
Second, I cannot add a new space because the upper right corner wont show an empty space.
In system I have configured (Mission Control) the upper right corner as "mission control".
    I do run a 27-inch screen

I'm having the exact same problem. I have a Macbook Pro that I connect to a 27inch iMac through the mini display port. Whenever I attempt to launch Mission control to move a program to a different space, the "Spaces" dont appear at the top of the screen. Is anyone have an answer for this?
Also, does anyone know of a 3rd party program to bring "Spaces" back? That was my #1 favorite thing of Snow Leopard, and I need to get that functionality back.
    Thanks

  • Accessing Mission Control

I use a Macbook purchased in February 2008.
With Lion, I thought I could swipe three fingers to accept Mission Control, but nothing is happening when I do that.
    Any ideas?

I didn't see a setting in System Preferences.
Not sure what you mean by the mission control app shortcut. When I click on Mission Control in the Dock it launches Mission Control.

  • How to see hidden apps in Mission Control

In Exposé in Snow Leopard at the low part of the screen, I could see all my hidden apps. In Mission Contrtol (Lion) I don't get to see the hidden apps. I've gone through all the system preferences and I did not see anything to be able to active it, I mean, to be able to see my hidden apps when I launch Mission Control.
Has anyone already solved this issue somehow?
    Thanks a lot.
    Regards.

    YES . you get it.
Not thing to apologize. you don;t do anything wrong. sorry about my word i'm not good in english.
    it call Minimize windows
by your answer that is ok. The window will go to stay on Dock by click in  >System Preference >Dock > Uncheck Minimize windows into application.
but someone (me and topick owner Jmayorperes) we check in minimize window to application icon . because i want a static Dock . dont want many icon on Dock when i minimize.
and old style expose is allow me to see all active window and all minimize windows in same place. by move mouse to hot corner .
But Lion if you want to see  Minimize window you must >>>  .. hold click to icon and select > show all window .. That's it.   http://postimage.org/image/2wd9ly7no/
but i think 1-2 second difference not good .
That why we try to get it back . it just change by apple. maybe it good for people who use touchpad or andything i don't know.
but for me it difference. and have to change behavior hope it come back in next update
    Thanks you AMMOCAN

  • No spaces in mission control

    Hi,
I upgraded to lion about 3 days ago. All was fine, until today. when I try to launch mission control, no spaces will appear. Only the top bar will disappear. Does anyone know how to fix the problem? Thanks!

This seems to be a continuous problem for me and it drives me crazy.  I love using Mission Control when it works, but sometimes it just won't launch and new spaces aren't available. At this point, I have to reboot my computer and keep my fingers crossed that it will work afterwards.  I believe MacFixIt had an article about this very issue.

  • Mission Control: How to change the order of the Apps?

    OS X Lion
Is it possible, to change the order of the Apps in Mission Control?
When I swipe with my 3 fingers, I first get the Apps, witch I started last.
    Any way to change that?
    Thanks Mark.

Here is a simple way to use Mission Control just as Spaces:
Let's assume in this example we like to assign iPhoto to Desktop 3 (which in Spaces was called Space 3).
    1. Turn off 'Automatically rearange spaces on most recent use
    2. Scroll up with 3 fingers simultaneously or launch Mission Control from the Dock. Click on Desktop 3. While you are in Desktop 3 launch iPhoto. Doublecheck with a right click on the iPhoto symbol in the Dock. Choose options. Confirm 'This Desktop'
NOTICE: Apps are automatically assigned to the Desktop / Space where they are launched for the very first time. However you change this by ctrl-click the application's symbol and assign to None than switch to let's stay with Desktop 3 and launch the application from here. From then on it will be assigned to Desktop 3.
NOTICE: Apps in fullscreen mode will temporarily (for the duration they are in fullscreen mode) be assigned to right most Desktops in Mission Control. Once you restore to a window you will find yourself again in its (app's) asigned Desktop.

  • Mission Control causing Lion to crash.

    Hi all,
hopefully someone can help me out.
I installed Lion soon after it was released on my work computer (I know, I know) anyway, every time I launched Mission Control it would flash a grey screen and log out. I even lost some work - really annoying.
So I backed everything up and did a clean install, thinking that the iteration of Lion I had installed over top of Snow Leopard was maybe corrupt somehow. I began to reinstall my most critical apps and a few system tweaks that I use, and I've noticed that using Mission Control now is still causing all kinds of problems. I guess I can just deactivate it, but it's hella annoying and I'd really like to get to the bottom of the cause. I've done some troubleshooting and removed some things but have not been able to isolate the problem. I've looked through the console, but not being super fluent in consolese have not located the clear culprit.
I have a feeling it's a graphics card issue, but I'm not sure, and if it is, I have no clue how to fix it.
Below is the console log from the time Mission Control is activated to the crash. Hopefully someone out there can decipher this and give me some insight as to what is the issue. Thanks!!!

Ok, so after looking in the kernel.log section of the console, and seeing this:
Aug  2 23:02:11 Jamess-iMac kernel[0]: The graphics driver has detected a corruption in its command stream.
Aug  2 23:02:33 Jamess-iMac kernel[0]: IOSurface: buffer allocation size is zero
    Aug  2 23:07:13 Jamess-iMac kernel[0]: NVDA(OpenGL): Channel exception! exception type = 0xd = GR: SW Notify Error
it looks like the GPU is kinda screwed up. I found this thread: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2268642?start=0&tstart=0 that discusses replacing the graphics card. Looks like this http://www.macpalace.com/mac-parts/p/661-4180-card-video-nvidia-geforce-7600-gt- 256-mb-vram/ is about the best price ($229)I can find with a quick search, so it's either:
    a) leave it as is and not use mission control and wait till I can afford to upgrade to a new rig
    b) spend $250 or so with shipping and do the replacement myself, and hope that fixes the problem
    Hmmm.

  • Mission Control trackpad gesture not working as before in Mavericks

    Hi there,
I noticed the three fingers gesture to launch Mission Control has changed in Mavericks. Now you need to stop touching the trackpad when doing the swipe up and down. I mean, you need to swipe up, STOP touching the trackpad, and then swipe down in order to activate and deactivate MC.
It may sound as a triviality but really bothers me a lot. I use that gesture pretty much to see every window opened and I hate to lose a second performing it.
Do you guys know if there is a way to change it back? I already tried to deactivate Exposé but got nothing different.
    Thanks,
    Best regards.

    as said above

usually in such instances resetting mission control gestures in Sys. preferences resolves it
uncheck and recheck your trackpad gestures and re-verify.
then restart mac, this fixed my error....hope it works
