Control key locks

i have an hp g-71167dx notebook. my control key show as being locked and i have to turn off my computer to clear it. pc is only 6 months old. are there any solutions ?

There could be a couple of different causes/solutions for this issue. Here are some suggestions.
First try pressing both the Left and Right Ctrl keys down at the same time. See if that resolves the issue.
By default in Windows Ease of Access Center (Start > Type "ease" > Click Ease of Access Center > Click Make the keyboard easier to use > Click Set up Sticky Keys), Lock modifier keys when pressed twice in a row, is checked. Just uncheck that box and hopefully you won't run into that problem anymore. Modifier keys include Ctrl, Shift, and Alt.
You could also see if there is a BIOS update for your particular notebooks. I'll need both of your product numbers and whether you're using Windows 7 or Windows 8. Here are the steps to find your product number. Once I have your product number and version of Windows, I can provide you both with direct links to your latest BIOS driver.
To find the current BIOS version, follow the steps below (taken from here):
Windows 8 : From the Start screen, type msinfo32 . Click msinfo32 from the list of results.
Windows 7 and Vista : Click Start , enter msinfo32 in the search field, and then select msinfo32.exe from the list of results.
Windows XP : Click Start , select Run , enter msinfo32.exe in the Open field, and then click OK .
In the System Information window under the System Summary category, look for the BIOS Version/Date entry. This is your current BIOS version.

If due to some reason, you are unable to deauthorize ADE, follow the below steps:
Mac:
1. Go-> Go to folder.
Go to folder dialog will appear.
2. Type ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Digital Editions
drag the activation.dat file to the trash.
ADE will be deauthorized now.
Now Authorize ADE again.
ADE will be deauthorized now.
Now Authorize ADE again.
Windows:
Choose Start > Run.
In the Open text box, type regedit and then press Enter. The Registry Editor opens.
In the left pane of the Registry Editor, locate the following registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Adept
Right-click the Adept key and choose Delete.
In the Confirm Key Delete dialog, click OK.
Your authorization will be deleted.
ADE will be deauthorized now.
Now Authorize ADE again.

Using the control key to scale to a certain size proportionally without it being locked

In illustrator CS5 if there is a particular size you want to enter, after entering the size in the width you could hold down the control key and it would scale everything proportionally without the lock button being on. I cant seem to get CS6 to do this feature. Is there a way to get this feature back?

Update to Illustrator to get to 16.05. I assume you are on PC since you said CTRL and not Command.

I leave the transform palette with the lock off
So that I can use the hot key as you mentioned and that would scale proportionately as if the hot key was held down
Uninstall any 3rd party Illustrator or Windows plug ins that may be interfering with this.
Also wanted to make sure you are holding down the CTRL key while you hit enter to accept the value.
Select item(s)
change either width or height
hold down CTRL on windows
Hit return or enter
Release CTRL

Control Key activates Caps Lock in wmii-3.5

I have an odd situation occur only when using wmii-3.5. Whenever I press the Control key, the Caps Lock Key is toggled. I'm using the wmiirc file that ships with the wmii package and have not made any changes to it. I don't have this problem in fluxbox or xfce. I looked at the wmiirc and there doesn't seem to be any config there that would lead to this. Any ideas?

The wiki page for wmii says to put 'setxkbmap -option ctrl:swapcaps' in your .xinitrc which will swap the ctrl and caps lock keys. Remove that line and restart X.

Using caps lock key as caps lock and control key

I'd like to use the caps lock key as caps lock and control key. While I can convert the caps lock to control key very easily, there seems no way to make it both caps lock and control. Is there any way to do this? I use emacs and it'd be really useful to be able to do this.

Finally found something that worked for me. See this thread and look for the post about removing the Hitoolbox plist files.

I removed all of them. (Had multiples) Also make sure you empty the trash afterwards.
Then restart.
Then I used the modifier key trick in this thread. Turned off the caps lock key. Then restart.
Then use the modifier key trick and turn the caps lock key back on. Test to see if your lights come back on for the caps lock key.
If so, next time you restart it should still work. Finally. This thing has been dogging me for a long time.

Apple AL Bluetooth Keyboard - Tab, Caps Lock, Function and Control keys just stopped working

Hi All -
All of a sudden I get on my baby, 27" iMac OSX 10.6 and the some keys on the bluetooth keyboard do not work. Specifially the Tab, Caps Lock, Function and Control keys. I'm fine with the caps lock gone (why is it there?) but the others are useful.
I've searched all over for a solution but I haven't found one. Tried to upgrade the firmware which is fine, reset the PRAM done, checked the speech per apple support nadda.
Please help.

Go to System preferances > Universal Access > Mouse or Mousie and trackpad > and turn your Mouse keys off.
Then disconnect and reconnect your keyboard.
Note that you don't open your mouse under hardware in System Preferances, this is for a whole different group of settings

I had certain queries which need to be clarified ,given below-
1)Apart from controlling operations, what r the other purpose of control key??
2) What is key figures and what is it function?
3)In calibration order, is it required to do TECO by IW32 or can it be done by t-code QA32 itself???
4)Through configuration can maintenance order screen be changed like notification ?
5)To get PM standard report like MCI7 etc, what is required to be done in configuration??
6) How many activity types can be assigned to maintenance work center??
7)Is work clearance management to be taken as separate package or in standard PM module itself it can be addressed??
I will be gratefull to all of you as these are of my some doubts.

well I orignally had it set to keylistener problem is that it only works when what ever component the keylistener is set to so if the keylistener is on the frame then it works as long as the frame has focus yet when I have a text box or a button or some other component has focus then the control key stops listening? I am using JInternalFrame I tried to add keylistener to the rootpane so that it was global but that doesnt seem to work either

Has anyone else had a control key act stuck?

I couldn't type in my password the other day after some basic trouble shooting and calling Apple everyone was at their wits end. Then I saw it, in the lower left of safari in the grey boarder it said "display a menu" a quick search on my phone showed me it was the control key. After tapping this key a few times it went away. I currently have changed in the modifier keys section of the keyboard so caps lock is the control key and the control key functions are controlled by the caps lock. interesting thing is that caps lock isn't on all the time, i.e. just like how the control key was acting. I can't feel anything under the key, nothing has been spilled, the key works fine as CAPS LOCK, its just when the control is assigned to do control functions and only then, even assigning no action to it works. should i reinstall the last update? should I reinstall the OS? I did a time machine back up too, that didn't fix it.

Does it really matter whether anyone else has? If you have, that's a problem for you whether or not anyone else has experienced the same issue. Call Apple tech support or take the iPad to an Apple Store, if there's one in your area, and they'll replace the iPad unless it's determined that the problem was caused by some sort of accident rather than a factory defect.

Mid 2009 13" won't start up, SMC impossible due to control key change?

Inherited mid 2009 13", all was well but control key wouldn't function, I used sys prefs to reset it to caps lock. Good for a few weeks. Last night it wouldn't take a charge, I have several bricks, it would recognize any of them when plugged in but wouldn't take a charge so tried a SMC reset. But since the control key was inop, reset to cap lock but even so SMC reset seemed to work as it started taking a charge again. Now this morning it would not turn on and nothing I do seems to convince it start to boot. Advice?

I decided to pull the battery as if it were a removable battery model. Worked! Booted it. Accepting charge. Will keep my eye on it.

I've also got this problem. I saw on another thread you were helping a lady who also lost the sound in her MBP, but then her disk crashed! If you can help me I'd appreciate it.
I've got sound on startup, but otherwise my volume is greyed out. Theres no red light in headphone socket.
I've posted the thread below on this topic but have had no replies, in my post I mention that when I use my bluetooth headset my volume works, but if I disable BT or remove the BT speaker device and then try to use my internal MBP speakers, no joy. I DON'T think its related to the BT speaker.

Media controls keys does not work on iTunes?

My keyboard has those "Media Controls Keys" on it (just like Play or Stop etc.) but it won't work with iTunes, unless iTunes is on the front of all windows. I used to use Windows Media Player and it can work with the Media Controls Keys even the player is minimised. Are there any ways simply changing settings with iTunes and solve the problem?

I don't have a W541 myself, but here are a few things to check, in no particular order:
Have you checked with your IT department? Maybe they set a poilicy to disable the card reader.
Is the card reader correctly enabled in the UEFI firmware?
Have you run ThinkVantage System Update and Microsoft Update to confirm all of the various Lenovo and Microsoft updates are installed?
Do you still have the OS image the device originally shipped with? If so, does the card reader work under that?

Control key (^) combined shortcuts does not work on mac book pro

All shortcut combinations with the control key (^) do not work. I´m using Mac Book Pro 13 (late 2013) with Os X Mavericks 10.9.4

The Logic Board is the Main system board. In the Windows world better known as the Motherboard. Except with Apple Mac computers the CPU and the GPU are Soldered to the logic board and if it is a Retina screen model the RAM is also Soldered to it.
So replacing the Logic board is like replacing the compete system and costs accordingly.
But there isn't much else you can do if you can't get that switch unstuck. Or just go without sound from the built in speakers. They aren't that good anyway.

When using HDMI to HDMI cable the Master Sound Control is locked.

master sound control is locked when using HDMI to HDMI using an HDTV for the display.
Although itunes sound control works. Why is the Master Control locked?

There are two ways to 'solve' this.
Alter the volume before sending the digital signal down the HDMI connection, this means the signal is no longer exactly as it was originally. Apple's current (apparent) view is that this should be done at the end i.e. playback device not at the originating (Mac) end so as to minimise the number of devices making changes to the signal. Basically 'volume' is the amplitude of a an analogue wave form. (Where else do you think the term 'amp' comes from.)
Not to alter the volume of the signal at the Mac end but instead to send a signal down the HDMI cable to tell the end i.e. playback device to alter the volume, this uses a standard called CEC (Consumer Electronics Control), unfortunately at the moment no Macs support this standard - it has to be supported at a hardware level so a simple Apple software upgrade to implement this is not possible. I have previously logged an official enhancement request for this with Apple - the more people who do this the more likely it is to be added, since now all Macs include HDMI it might happen at some point.
As an addendum to option 2 above, see http://www.pulse-eight.com/store/products/104-usb-hdmi-cec-adapter.aspx this would however require software support in whatever application is being used. XBMC for Mac does support it.
