Control panel show I have flash player 11 installed. web sites say it isn't. do I need to enable it?

Confused.  Flash Player 11 won't install,  says it's not downloaded. Control panel shows it is. Does it
need to be enabled? If so, how.

Hello cor-el, thanks for your reply. I changed my settings for downloads to desktop and it has appeared on there. When I double click I am asked which program I want to open file. I click firefox and another box "opening install" says I have chosen to open the file which is an application and do I want to save it. This is the only real option so I press save file. I get a box saying this is an executable file which may contain viruses - do you want to run. I press ok and the final box showing C drive file name and desktop appears stating application not found.
This happens the same whenever I try to install.
To my untrained eye the application is not being recognised as an application and I cannot work out how to get it to do that.
My plugin is still showing as out of date.
Is there anything you could suggest. Thanks for your time.

  • Some websites don't recognize that I have Flash Player installed

I have the latest version of Flash Player installed, my browser shows it to be enabled, and it works on most sites I go to. However, other sites, particularly CNN, recently started giving me error messages that I don't have Flash Player. I've reinstalled it several times, to no avail. What do I need to do to get these sites to recognize that I do have Flash Player installed?

    Chris,
I'm running Windows 7 64 bit OS. On the browser, I use both Chrome and IE 9, but only have the issue in IE 9. Flash works fine in Chrome, but only for some sites on IE 9, but not others. There are no extensions or blocking apps that are interfering as far as I can tell.
    Thanks,
    Drew

  • My iMac/Safari does not recognize I have Flash Player installed

I have Adobe Flash Player installed - in fact did it more than once to make sure including uninstlaling and redownloading/installing.  But if I go to YouTube, for instance, and try to view a video I keep geting the message I need Adobe FlashPlayer!  YouTube is just an example - doesnt work on any site.
    Any thoughts?

If you're sure you've installed the latest version of Flash, take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. After each step, relaunch Safari and test. For a "missing plug-in" error, start with Step 5.
    1. If you're only having trouble with YouTube videos, sign in to your YouTube account and load this page. You may see a link with the text "Leave the HTML5 Trial." If so, click that link.
    2. If you're getting a "blocked plug-in" error, then from the menu bar select
     ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
and click Check Now. Quit and relaunch your browser.
    3. Triple-click the line below to select it:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
Right-click or control-click the highlighted text and select
    Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu. A folder should open. Delete the following item, or anything with a similar name, if present:
    Flash Player (failing).plugin
You may be prompted for your login password.
    4. Re-download and reinstall Flash. Download it from this page:
Adobe - Install Adobe Flash Player
Never download a Flash update from anywhere else.
    5. If you get a "missing plug-in" error, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
from the Safari menu bar and check the box marked Enable plug-ins.
    6. Select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
from the Safari menu bar. If any extensions are installed, disable them.
    7. In the Safari preference window, select
Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
    Close the window. Then select
     ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
and click Delete All. Close the preference pane.

  • Control panel show version 16.0.0.257 web shows 16,0,0,235 installed

Which version of flash is really installed?  When I check my control panel it shows ActiveX version: 16.0.0.257  I hit Check Now and I go to a web page that says I have 16,0,0,235 installed.  The table below it shows that the latest version is 16.0.0.287.  When I go to Flash Player Help and click Check Now it says 16.0.0.235 and
Flash Player is pre-installed in Google Chrome and updates automatically!
You can skip the steps below. See Flash Player with Google Chrome.
I get that there are different versions for Chrome and ActiveX.  However neither of these is appearing as what the table lists as the latest version.  Both are set to update automatically.  I don't understand why the control panel version and the web page version display different version numbers.  So what versions do I really have?  Why does it display conflicting information?
    Thanks.

There are actually three Flash Player versions for Windows:
Flash Player for Internet Exporer - ActiveX
Flash Player for Firefox - NPAPI
Flash Player for Opera and Chromium-based browsers - PPAPI
Maybe that's where the confusion comes from?

  • Control Panel shows only 4GB of RAM but product specs say I should have 8GB

My HP Pavilion Elite HPE-250f desktop is supposed to have 8GB of RAM factory installed, but the control panel only shows 4GB. When I run diagnostics with the Support Assistant software it says everything is working fine but also shows only 4GB of RAM. I've had the computer for several months now and the warranty recently expired. In the past I noticed it said 4GB and thought I must have purchased a computer with only 4GB, but it always seemed odd to me. I looked up the specs online and it says the HPE-250f has 8GB, and it also says 8GB on the box it came in. I have not made any modifications to the computer, and have never opened the cabinet. I am hesitant to open the cabinet, but don't feel I should have to pay a lot of money to figure this out.

Are you using Internet Explorer 11?
If so, this is a known problem with Internet Explorer 11, which Microsoft has been aware of since October 18 when they released their latest "untested" browser. The pages can't recognize the browser, so they don't recognize any of the plugins, like Flash Player. So far, Microsoft has made NO indication that they have any plan to fix it soon.
Microsoft's recommendation is to use Compatibility View for affected pages, and "pretend" you're using an different browser. Trouble with that is it has seen limited success at best, and you have to individually enable it for EVERY page that has problems.
I'm not big on "pretending" so I recommend actually using another browser.
    Firefox (from Mozilla)
    Opera (from Opera)
    Safari (from Apple)
    Chrome (from Google)
ANY of those will work where IE11 won't, with the Flash Player Plug-in (For all other browsers), and Chrome doesn't even need that because it has its own Flash Player plugin built in.

  • Embedding Flash Player on Secure Site

    Hello,
I am uploading Flash movies for sales presentations to our
secure intranet server, which is accessed from laptops that all
    have Flash Player installed.
The IE security alert that pops up when movies are launched
breaks the flow of the presentation ("This page contains secure and
non-secure items"...). Is it possible to output my flash movie
without the non-secure links to Macromedia's site? I have manually
removed the links for current projects, but this is a pain.
Better yet, is is possible (and legal!) to just embed the
player securely from our own intranet?
    Thanks,
    Dan

I cannot comment on the legality of publishing the player on
your own site... What I have done is to replace the "http" with
"https" to all links to the codebase that are produced. The links
still work and it gets rid of the message.

  • Control Panel shows Flash Player icon but not listed in Programs and Features

Several sites such as Hulu.com and my university homework page keep telling me that I require Flash Player 10 or higher and to download and install before continuing.  So when I try, this is the message I get:  Flash Player is pre-installed with Internet Explorer in Windows 8.  And then in the box below, it says:  Flash Player is disabled.  I've tried all of the steps to correct this issue, but nothing is working for me.  Also the control panel shows the Flash Player icon, but when I go into the programs and features, Flash Player is not listed at all.  What am I doing wrong??
OS WINDOWS 8 and IE 8

    Hi,
Microsoft embeds Flash Player in Internet Explorer on Windows 8.x so you won't see a separate item in Programs and Features for Flash Player ActiveX (the version used by IE).  If you install Flash Player Plug-in for non-IE browsers it'll create an entry in Programs and Features.
Since you didn't specify which troubleshooting steps you've taken, have you tried the ones listed here Flash Player Issues | Windows 8? Also, when you go to this page, Adobe - Flash Player do you see the Flash animation at the top of the page? If so, what version is detected as being installed in the 'Version Information' widget?  The latest Flash Player version for IE is 15.0.0.167.  If that's not the version listed, please run Windows Update to get the latest version of Internet Explorer or use the link at the bottom of the Flash Player Issues | Windows 8 page.

It is best to go to the source, Adobe, to get their software and updates. Sometimes malware can infect sites with messages that appear legitimate, but will, instead, install malware/virus/trojan on your system. Read the following carefully to install and/or update Adobe Flash.
There are 2 versions of Adobe Flash; an '''ActiveX version''' for IE only and a '''Plugin version''' for most other browsers including Firefox. On a Windows system, you should always update both individually. '''''You do not have Adobe Flash (aka "Shockwave Flash" in Add-ons > Plugins) installed.'''''
#'''Using Firefox''', go to the following direct download link and SAVE the download to your desktop so you can find it later: http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player.exe
#When the download is finished, close Firefox (File > Exit '''''OR''''' Firefox button > Exit)
#Click or double-click on the file you just saved to your desktop
#*In the installation window that appears, click the box to the left of "I have read and...." to place a check mark in the box
#*The "Install" button in the lower right corner will now be highlighted, click it.
    #*The installation is quick.
