Controle app - console

Question

Hi Experts,
Maybe I'm thinking to hard or some, but I can get it! I'm studying java in my own free time, so please bare with me!
I have an UML diagram and need to test it with an console app:
Cat
- name : String
+ Cat (name : String)
+ getName() : String
+ makeSound() : Voidthe code for the UML is this:
public class Cat{
  private String name;
  public Cat(String name){
    this.name = name;
  public getName(){
    return name;   
  public void makeSound(){
}The console app would be:
public class Test{
  public static void main(String[] arg){
    Cat cat= new Cat("Silly cat");
   System.out.println(cat);
}But this gives me not the string back! How can I really test this app, because I think I'm overlooking this.

So what exactly is the String representation of an Object? This comes in the form of a toString() method that returns a String. If you do not explicitly override the toString() method then it looks up the chain of super classes for a toString() method. In your situation the only superclass is Object. Objects toString() method will return the address that the Object itself is stored at which isn't very descriptive as the representation of a String now is it.
