Controller Upgrade to 7.0.98.0

I am trying to upgrade some of my controllers to the new 7.0.98.0 code. Currently they are on the 6.0.196.0 image. I have seven controllers all setup the same. Two of the controllers downloaded the new image and came up on the new code after reboot. But five of the controllers fail to download the new image. I get the below error message when trying to download the file. Any ideas on what would cause some of the controllers to fail to download the image? They are all 4404's.
% Error: Code file transfer failed - Error while writing output file

Hi,
I have seen this error when the current version does not accept the upgrade (upgrade path not respected) or the transfer protocol does is not the adequate...
Can you confirm that all the WLCs that are failing are running 6.0.196.0?
Also, what protocol are you using to tranfer the file? TFTP or FTP?
If you try with FTP does it also fails?
HTH,
Tiago

  • Error in Prime Infrastructure 2.0 after Controller upgrade

    Hello
I've got two WiSM and Prime Infrastructure 2.0. Last week I upgraded one WiSM to 7.0.250.0, plus a third controller. That worked fine, but since then, my PI shows one of the two controllers of the second WiSM as "Unreachable". I rebooted the PI and also rebooted the controller again, to no avail.
I tried now to update the snmp v2c credentials in PI, but receive an error.
The error message shown when I try to update the credentials is:
Error: Common-1: Some unexpected internal error has occurred. If the problem persists please report to the Tech Support.
    Error:Detail: errorId=6 Invalid credential name: snmp_transport.
    Any ideas?
I can normally access the controller through its webinterface and don't see any errors that would spring to the eye.
    [edit]
Just manualy run the Task "Controller Operational Status" and received this error:
    com.cisco.wnbu.server.common.errors.InternalException: COMMON-1
    Thanks

I worked with TAC Team and the final solution was to delete all controllers and add them again. This might get fixed in a future version though.

  • Lightweight APs not receiving IP address following controller upgrade

    Hi guys,
I have a 5508 controller, just upgraded from 6.0.182 to 7.0.98.0. Also LAG was switched off directly after upgrade.
Since the upgrade none of the 1142 LAPs are associating with the controller. I can see they are being issued IPs by the internal DHCP but putting a console cable and watching I am getting:
    Not in Bound state.
*May  4 11:41:17.759: %CAPWAP-3-ERRORLOG: Not sending discovery request AP does not have an Ip !!
*May  4 11:41:17.759: %CAPWAP-5-DHCP_RENEW: Could not discover WLC using DHCP IP. Renewing DHCP IP.
Nothing changed on switches... driving me nuts... Can anyone shed some light?
One Ap prior to the upgrade was on a static IP and that connected through without any problem, (it was an 1131 though, but I dont think that is the issue...)
    Any help greatly appreciated!

Hi Scott, thanks for the assist.
I have installed the FUS image... we were only ever using one port, (port 1), and I have confirmed that the management interface is set to that. Also reset the AP but no change in behaviour.
I can see the internal DHCP server allocating addresses, then reissuing them one minute later...
AP on boot up gave this:
*Mar  1 00:13:19.761: %CDP-4-DUPLEX_MISMATCH: duplex mismatch discovered on GigabitEthernet0 (not full duplex), with Science_Prep-2950-24 FastEthernet0/24 (full duplex).

nothing changed in the switch cab from before the upgrade...

  • Domain Controller Upgrade 2008R2 to 2012R2

    Hi
One of my customers has an environment with 3 domain controllers. Primary DC resides on premise as well as the secondary. One more Additional DC's resides on DR site and are all running Windows Server 2008 R2.
We have now decided to upgrade all of them to 2012R2 and therefore I would like to know what are the concerns we need to be aware of?What sort of problems we may face or experience?and also best practice methodologies to perform the upgrade?
    Thanks

    Hi,
Based on my experience, CA is not recommend to install on a DC. I recommend you to back up CA and then remove the CA role from the current DC, add the CA role
on a member server and restore the CA database on that member server.
In addition, I suggest adding a new Windows Server 2012 R2 into the domain and promote it to a DC instead of an in-place upgrade. Then you can transfer the FSMO and
DHCP services to the new server, deactivate the DHCP scope on the old DC and turn on DHCP on the new DC. After all the DHCP clients receive IP addresses from the new DHCP server, then you can demote the old DC.

    HI Raymod:
your parameter should be like this:
    Example:
    TFTP server IP Address—10.1.1.10
    Maximum retries—10
    Timeout—6
    File Path—./
    File Name—AIR-WLC5500-.........aes
Note: When you perform the upgrade from the GUI, for File Path, you can insert a dot (.) as long as the image is in the root directory of your TFTP server. This way, you do not have to enter the path were the image is saved
    Hope it helps.

  • T43p Embedded Controller Upgrade

    Dear All,
I upgraded the embedded Controller to 1.06 without pay more attention to BIOS version so the BIOS version was 1.22 and this is uncompatible version between 2 system software.
So now I have a big problem on running, sometimes the Laptop stop on the IBM Screen (Click Blue Button) and can't continue I foreced to turn it off manually then re-run it many times to let it run.
After that I upgraded the BIOS to 1.29 version but I am still getting this problem.
When I am working into Windows XP, 70% of the time the system doesn't work efficently and freeze a little bit but the big Problem when I am trying to run it I rerun it many times to work nice.
My question is; How to uninstall the BIOS and the Embedded Controller?
    Regards and thanks

    Hello,
The PXI controller can have one of two operating systems:
    Windows OS
    Real-Time OS (deterministic)
Ultimately, the architecture of your program will determine the deterministic rate.

  • WLC Controller Upgrade Fails.

I am trying (for two days now!) to upgrade a 4402 Controller. I have upgraded three others just like it to version AIR-WLC4400-K9-4-0-179-11.aes from Version: 3.2.150.6. I have tried multiple TFTP servers and each one fails with "Failure while storing in flash". Nothing I change seems to have any effect and the tftp downloads vary as to where they drop off with no consistency.
    Thanks!

I've been bagging my ahead against the wall on this but here's what I've found:
Performing upgrades over a WAN connection has not had a good success rate due to the nature of TFTP. Download the files to a PC local to the controller and run a tftp server to transfer the file across the LAN to the device. This has solved my problem when dealing with upgrades of all models of WLCs.
I suggest Cisco adds FTP capabilities to the lightweight platform in the future.

  • WLAN disable on a controller upgrade, why?

I'm confused.  I'm about to upgrade a 5508 controller so I can do the pre-download to the access points, but in every doc I find, it says to disable the WLAN's before upgrading.  This makes no sense.  I'm just moving code over, why do I have to disrupt my wireless network in order to move code?
    Thanks,
    Eric

Steps 4(optional) and 5.  This is from 7.0.230.0 Release notes.  I believe I've seen this in several release notes versions.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/controller/release/notes/crn7_0_230_0.html#wp844121
Step 4 (Optional) Disable the controller 802.11a/n and 802.11b/g/n networks.
Note For busy networks, controllers on high utilization, or small controller platforms it is advisable to disable the 802.11a/b/g/n networks as a precautionary measure.
Step 5 Disable any WLANs on the controller.

  • Domain controller upgrade in Exchange Environment

We have an existing 2003 Server Environment and Exchange server 2003 coexistence with Exchange server 2010 with DAG setup. We have recently decided to move to a windows server 2012 standard Environment. How do I promote the new windows Server 2012 std
to DC and remove the 2003 Server from the Environment. My users are currently using the old 2003 DC to logon.
    in brief
We have windows 2003 enterprise + sp2 Domain controller (holding DNS as well) and Exchange server 2003 Entp + Exchange server 2010 running in Coexistence with DAG.
We have decided to remove the 2003 Server from the Environment and go with Windows 2012 Standard OS. I would know to know the what will be the impact on Exchange server environment if any ?
please suggest right path with less downtime.Mailing service should not be affected.
    TheAtulA

Simply migrate the remaining mailboxes to your Exchange Server 2010 and then you can decommission your Exchange Server 2003. More if you ask them here: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/exchange/en-US/home?forum=exchangesvrgenerallegacy
Once done, you can upgrade to ADDS 2012 and introduce your first DC running Windows Server 2012. Please note that your Exchange Servers should be SP2 or later to support your new DC. • Quad Core 4TB vs 8TB - Controller upgrade or just better HD selection

So having just ordered a new 2.66 Quad Core yesterday when the max hard drive capacity was 4 1TB drives I'm wondering if today's improvement to 4 2TB drives is worth canceling the order and reordering.
Is this a change to the drive controller allowing for the installation of larger drives? - or is it simply that the Apple store now offers 2 TB drives as a custom option?
    Thanks.....

It's simply that 2 TB drives are now available that aren't overly expensive. There is no practical limit to the drive size you can install in a Mac Pro.

  • PowerMac G4 as video controller - upgrade how?

My parents are considering hooking up their old G4 PowerMac to their new 46" 1280p 120Hz Sharp LCD- Mainly so they can stream their favorite television shows when they miss their air time. It would be useful for use with Front Row since they've a large library of their movies ripped to the server and linked in iTunes.
The problem with both these media types is that the PowerMac just can't keep up. At times, it's as slow as a frame every 3 seconds. I'd like to give them a Christmas gift of making the machine work for them, but I'm not sure simple upgrades will do the trick.
I'd start with maxing out the RAM and getting a better video card. As to which kind would be most cost effective, I'm not sure. Below I list the current specs of the machine. As I've seen others ask upgrade questions and get answers, what does this PowerMac need to play non-high-def. videos? High-def video? All suggestions would be appreciated.

I can tell you that a DVI connection would be sufficient for this TV. I’ve got a DVI->HDMI converter that does the trick at full resolution (no stretching necessary) with my Powerbook. At this point, I just need a graphics card that will at least support 720p (preferably 1080p) resolution and can handle the usual 30 fps for watching movies over the network. As a side note, although my Powerbook can drive a 30” display and regularly drives a 26-incher with a 1920x1200 resolution, the TV only seems to allow it to put out 1080i. That card is a mobile Radeon 9600. Please take that into account with your graphics card suggestions.
If you think the 867Mhz processor just won’t cut it, do you know where I can buy one to switch it out that will? I’m not sure exactly which processors are compatible with the machine, but the system profile should tell those of you with knowledge on the topic which would be.

  • APs not associating with Controller after upgrade

    This is pretty bad.
I've been upgrading our controllers to 4.2.209.0 without any problems untill today. The controller upgraded fine but, the APs aren't showing up anywhere. They aren't associating with any controller. I've shut/no shut the PoE ports. They show connected. The WCS says they are not associated with any controller. What should I do. Roll back the image? Will this help?
    Thanks Pat.

    Surendra,
Thanks for the response. I got this from debug dhcp detail
DHCP: QScan: Timed out Selecting state%Unknown DHCP problem.. No allocation possible
I was pretty desparate at the time so, I wasn't able to trouble-shoot any further. After I saw the DHCP debug I deleted the normal DHCP server address, created a scope for the APs and configured it on the AP management interface and the APs got addresses. After the APs got their addresses, the clients got their addresses from the regular DHCP server. I will try again with the upgrade as I rolled back to 4.2.112.0. Atleast I know I can get an ip from the controller if I need.
Do you know of any reason why my APs weren't getting addresses. Even when I rolled back they weren't getting addresses. The config hadn't changed.
    Thanks, Pat.
