Controllers for 1252 and 1522 mesh APs

We are doing a site survey for wireless infrastructure. Redundnat controller implementations is what we are looking at. We were informed about using 2 controllers for redundancy but now during site survey, it has been informed that a different version of code is required to support 1252 and 1522 mesh APs. That essentially mean that if we have a mix of these two types of APs, two controllers each (four total) will be required. That seems to be too many controllers to support even if it is a small site requiring few 1252 and 1522 APs. Any particular reason that a controller running a particular version of code can not support both types of APs?
Thanks

I'm going to make an honest attempt at answering your question. While I'm an Engineer by trade, I would assume from a business group standpoint that Cisco has different teams managing the code and hardware required to support MESH and non-MESH APs. While there is code that will support indoor and outdoor APs simultaneously, the 1252 is Cisco's newest and most advanced AP yet. For this reason, I would think that the differences in code required to support it on a controller are different enough that a common code platform simply has not been written yet. That isn't to say that it isn't being worked on, and may possibly be delivered some time in the 5.0 code train. To summarize, you've got to understand the different paces at which the teams responsible for each code train are moving, and they simply haven't converged yet.

  • Can Local Mode Cisco Mesh APs (1522/1552) be supported in a Multiple country code 5508 WLC?

I've read previous discussions (i.e., "wlc 5508 multiple country codes + mesh ap") on this forum that stated Mesh APs can't be supported on a WLC set-up with more than one country code configured. If you have Outdoor APs which are set-up for local mode only, and not used in a Mesh wireless architecture (using Mesh Beacons), will this apply as well? I don't know if there are any caveats to this. Or if Cisco 1522/1552 APs can't be supported on a WLC using more than one country code period, regardless for how they are used, since they are considered Mesh APs. Another question, can a WLC support two regions (Region E and Region A), in a two country code assignment? I've read on the forum the downfalls for using more than one country code on a WLC, so understand that it will use the lowest common denominator settings (i.e., power, channels) for operation, so this isn't ideal.
I want to stick to one controller using one country code only. This isn't something I want to do, but we had an issue with an order being processed for APs, which resulted in the wrong region APs being delivered by a vendor, and leadership is exploring alternative options. So, the above is worst case scenario planning if we can't swap the APs back for some legal reason, or if it takes too long to accomplish. We could always purchase a smaller WLC with a license size to support only the different region APs purchased if it comes to it.

    Hi,
As per my experience, Normal APs(Local Mode) can work with multiple Country Code .
WLC can support multiple country code but it's a bad idea to have it. Only common channel, power will allowed.
Best is to buy a 2504WLC and use it.

  • Mesh APs and outdoor install

    Hello,
Can I use 2602i as a RAP and 1532i as a MAP with 2504 WLC?
Also, when installing the 1532i, do I need to use lightning arrestor?
What else do I need to install the 1532i outdoor?
I was reading the 1530 AP outdoor installation guide, but the instruction is for 1532e, and I am really confuse about the installation.
The site is something similar to this:
    http://sniqi.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/pool-modish-roof-top-blue-swimming-pool-with-unique-rattan-gazebo-and-chic-aluminum-column-rooftop-swimming-pools.jpg

    Is my topology feasible?
What I'm thinkig is, the APs that is going to be in the building with no walls will be 1532i RAP and the AP that is going to be in the indoor office will be 2602i RAP.  I have not seen the site yet, so far this is just my guess.
The wireless will be used for POS as far as I know. No guest traffic.

    Scott,
How do power on your mesh outdoor APs? Do you use a regular wall power outlet or do you run a new power source?
This is the table I was looking at the other day.
The one that confusing me is that the lightning arrestor. Does the 1530i need a lightning arrestor? The guide focuses on the AP with external antenna.

  • DNS setup on server bound to AD and using domain controllers for DNS

My server is bound to our AD network and in the network pref I have entered the two IPs for the domain controllers on our network that serve DNS.
My question is, am I right not to enable/configure and start the DNS service on the Mac server since it is getting DNS already?
If yes, how do I confirm that my Mac server is correctly listed in our domain controllers DNS? Should I be concerned that I get the following?
    knws3135:~ mactech$ sudo changeip -checkhostname
    Password:
    Primary address = 10.31.3.135
    Current HostName = knws3135.ad.ewsad.net
The DNS hostname is not available, please repair DNS and re-run this tool.

    Hi
It looks all OK to me? As for the hostname having capitals could pose a problem but only if the Mac Server was its own KDC. Which it is not. If the hostname is defined as you have it now in the AD's DNS Service then leave it alone.
Sometimes even when DNS checks out OK you can still have fundamental errors that only demotion to Standalone will cure. I think this is the point that you are at now. To be honest I would do this. Judging from what you've said there would be very little to lose when you do this apart from managed preferences. These can easily be re-applyed on successful promotion.
needs to be changed so it is configured in Open Directory as connected to a Directory Server
Not sure what you mean by this?
If you have or are about to update your Server to 10.5.4 - which I recommend you do. Then you could follow this procedure:
    Demote to Standalone
    Stop all Services
    Restart the Server
Update to 10.5.4. Restart the Server (this happens anyway)
Make sure your Server resolves on the forward and reverse pointers (again)
If you want run changeip again (you may be surprised)
Use the Active Directory plug in in Directory Utility to bind the Server to the AD. Make sure you use an AD admin account that has authority to do this. De-select 'force home directory creation on startup disk' I have a feeling this will be de-selected anyway.
After successful binding quit out of Directory Utility and launch Server Admin
    Select the Open Directory Service
Change the role from Standalone to Open Directory Master
Create the Directory Administrator account's username and password. Don't be tempted to change the UID or use the system admin account's user name. You can use the same password if you wish. What I've done before in the past is to create the diradmin account on the AD first with full authority for the domain.
On successful promotion you should now see in the Overview Pane everything running apart from Kerberos which should be Stopped. This is how it should be. Apple's 10.5.4 Update has took a lot of the donkey work out of this whole process. No need for the command line. Simply click.
If you launch Directory Utility you should now see the server's loopback address has been added in the LDAPv3 Plugin. Also the Server should be topmost in the Search Order under the Authentication and Contacts field. Bind your clients first to the AD and then the OD (make sure use for authentication and contacts are unchecked).
Browse the two nodes, add your groups and apply MCX in the usual way.
    Does this help?

  • I have been using icloud for itunes and aps purchases, but now I would like to create a new icloud account so that my calendars sync without having to plug in ... how do I do this, as my phone won't let me change the icloud account

My husband and I have been using our iCloud account for music and ap purchases only.  I have decided that i would like to now create a new icloud account so that i can sync my calendar and contacts.  I read about doing this online and it looks simple and easy ... and yet, when i go to switch it on my iphone, there is only 1 place for an icloud account (our shared account) and it is greyed out so that I cannot change it.  How do I do this?

Whenever a menu choice is grayed out, that is because you have Restrictions turned on in Settings.  Be sure to turn it off.
You are confusing an itunes store account with an icloud account.  You two can continue using the same ID for itunes (thus sharing purchased music, apps, etc.), but you really should have separate accounts (different IDs) for icloud, since an account is intended for one user to keep his/her devices in sync.
To create a new icloud account, go to
    http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/
Then go to Settings>icloud and scroll to the bottom of the screen and tap Delete Account.  (have restrictions turned off)  That will disconnect the device from the account but will not delete data in icloud or other devices.  Then sign in using the new ID.

  • To find out the "CMYK" FillColor percentage for graph and mesh items

Is it possible to find out the "CMYK" FillColor values(percentage) for "GraphItems" and "MeshItems" in illustrator cs3 files through programmatically. Please help me.
    Thanks in advance..

Yes you are correct he needs to access the file info and perhaps the
recolor art dialog what they are seeking is to get the values of the
cmyk of the fill and stroke for these particular
objects, so they seem to have to selected first then they have to open
and read the value perhaps from the live color dialog as I mentioned
before so I think it has to be two scripts one the goes to the
Select>Same>Fill Color then goes to the live color then reads the
color makes a live color group and returns it to the swatches panel
there he can then open the swathes and see the values.
I think the same for strokes.
    That doesn't work.
But selecting the stroke and making a swatch of the does work and and
    the same with fill.
it may be that simple select the art, select stroke or fill make a
swatch create a color group add the swatch to the color group or name
    it.
I think that is al they need they can then select the swatches and run
a script to get the values.
    Does this make sense?

  • Antenna AIR-ANT2430V-R only for 1252 series??

    Hi,
does any of you know why this antenna model (AIR-ANT2430V-R) can only be used for  1252 series???
what would be the problem if I use it with 1262 LAP  ??
    regards,

The antenna was specifically developed for the 1252 APs because at the time the only 802.11n AP cisco offered was the 1252. They now have the 1260 series and the 3500 series APs. The thing to be aware of with antennas is: 1. do they have the right connectors and 2. are the tuned to the right frequency. I agree with Leolaohoo that you can use these antennas on any of the Cisco 802.11n APs.

  • Ho do I use one monitor for OSX and Windows 8.1 bootcamp

I am a long time Mac user, but find the fairly recent Apple switch to thunderbolt for monitor input very frustrating.
For several years I have ran a Mid 2010 IMac 27" and input video from a Mac Mini running Boot Camp Windows 7 using Target Display Mode on the IMac.
This worked fine until I upgraded to a Late 2013 27" IMac and discovered that the  IMac has moved to thunderbolt as the input for Target Display Mode.  The new late 2013 27" IMac just will not display native Windows 7 or 8 from a Boot Camp Mac anymore.
My problem is that I have two business/job related Windows apps that must run on a native windows 7 or 8 platform, and won't function under either Parallels or VMWare Fusion.
    I have tried.
And there appears to be no way to get any Windows machine with DVI or Mini Display Port output to drive a late 2013 IMac in Target Display mode.
So, with great frustration, I have concluded that I need to purchase a non-Apple 27-30" monitor, and drive it with either a Mac Mini, or my Early 2013 15" MacBook Pro retina, running one of the Macs into on of the mini-Display Ports on the monitor and a native Windows 7 or 8 machine into a second mini-display port, switching between the two video inputs.   The Dell 30" monitor seems to get the nod.
Has anyone found a better solution to switching between OSX and native Windows on one monitor?
    Thanks...

    Hi William,
I had the same experience in December 2013 and contacted Apple about it. According to Apple it's an issue of Windows with Thunderbolt. Your older iMac from 2010 is using DisplayPort and not Thunderbolt for the Target Display Mode. Note that just the connector looks the same but it's still a different technology. Please further note that the response below does not apply for the new iMac 27" with the 5K display because this iMac does not support Target Display Mode at all, hence can't be used as external display. Of course you can still attach one or two external displays to the iMac 27" 5K.
Hope this clears things up for you and the others.
    Thanks,
    Martin
So, here is the important part of the official response from Apple:
"... The Thunderbolt controller in an iMac is running exclusively in host mode. As such it cannot emulate a device mode Thunderbolt display. Instead it implements a custom Target Display Mode protocol that shares video between two peer to peer machines running with both controllers running in host mode. The "client" side of the driver does not exist on Windows so windows cannot speak to the "server" half in the iMac. There are no plans to implement a client driver for Windows since there is no Thunderbolt SW stack available for Windows. The reason this used to work is that the older iMacs used DisplayPort for Target Display Mode. In this scenario the iMac was able to expose the panel in such a way that it looked exactly like a Display Port Device which Windows does have driver support for. ... "

  • Different id's for different phones but share aps?

my entire family (iphones, ipads, i touches... all have aps purchades under my apple id (the only one set up for the family). is there a way to have seperate id's to use for contacts and calendars so everyone does not automatically get all of my info and not theirs but still be able to have all the aps purchased uder my apple id?

Only you can make that decision but there is really no reason to have multiple Apple IDs.

  • Upgrading a 3-node Hyper-V clusters storage for £10k and getting the most bang for our money.

Hi all, looking for some discussion and advice on a few questions I have regarding storage for our next cluster upgrade cycle.
Our current system for a bit of background:
3x Clustered Hyper-V Servers running Server 2008 R2 (72TB Ram, dual cpu etc...)
1x Dell MD3220i iSCSI with dual 1GB connections to each server (24x 146GB 15k SAS drives in RAID 10) - Tier 1 storage
    1x Dell MD1200 Expansion Array with 12x 2TB 7.2K drives in RAID 10 - Tier 2 storage, large vm's, files etc...
~25 VM's running all manner of workloads, SQL, Exchange, WSUS, Linux web servers etc....
1x DPM 2012 SP1 Backup server with its own storage.
    Reasons for upgrading:
Storage though put is becoming an issue as we only get around 125MB/s over the dual 1GB iSCSI connections to each physical server.  (tried everything under the sun to improve bandwidth but I suspect the MD3220i Raid is the bottleneck here.
Backup times for vm's (once every night) is now in the 5-6 hours range.
Storage performance during backups and large file syncronisations (DPM)
Tier 1 storage is running out of capacity and we would like to build in more IOPS for future expansion.
Tier 2 storage is massively underused (6tb of 12tb Raid 10 space)
    Migrating to 10GB server links.
Total budget for the upgrade is in the region of £10k so I have to make sure we get absolutely the most bang for our buck.
    Current Plan:
Upgrade the cluster to Server 2012 R2
Install a dual port 10GB NIC team in each server and virtualize cluster, live migration, vm and management traffic (with QoS of course)
Purchase a new JBOD SAS array and leverage the new Storage Spaces and SSD caching/tiering capabilities.  Use our existing 2TB drives for capacity and purchase sufficient SSD's to replace the 15k SAS disks.
    On to the questions:
Is it supported to use storage spaces directly connected to a Hyper-V cluster?  I have seen that for our setup we are on the verge of requiring a separate SOFS for storage but the extra costs and complexity are out of our reach. (RDMA, extra 10GB NIC's
    etc...)
When using a storage space in a cluster, I have seen various articles suggesting that each csv will be active/passive within the cluster.  Causing redirected IO for all cluster nodes not currently active?
If CSV's are active/passive its suggested that you should have a csv for each node in your cluster?  How in production do you balance vm's accross 3 CSV's without manually moving them to keep 1/3 of load on each csv?  Ideally I would like just
a single CSV active/active for all vm's to sit on.  (ease of management etc...)
If the CSV is active/active am I correct in assuming that DPM will backup vm's without causing any re-directed IO?
Will DPM backups of VM's be incremental in terms of data transferred from the cluster to the backup server?
Thanks in advance for anyone who can be bothered to read through all that and help me out!  I'm sure there are more questions I've forgotten but those will certainly get us started.
Also lastly, does anyone else have a better suggestion for how we should proceed?
    Thanks

    1) You can use direct connection to SAS with a 3-node cluster of course (4-node, 5-node etc). Sure it would be much faster then running with an additional SoFS layer (with SAS fed directly to your Hyper-V cluster nodes all reads and writes would be local
travelling down the SAS fabric and with SoFS layer added you'll have the same amount of I/Os targeting SAS + Ethernet with its huge compared to SAS latency sitting in between a requestor and your data residing on SAS spindles, I/Os overwrapped into SMB-over-TCP-over-IP-over-Etherent
requests at the hypervisor-SoFS layers). Reason why SoFS is recommended - final SoFS-based solution would be cheaper as SAS-only is a pain to scale beyond basic 2-node configs. Instead of getting SAS switches, adding redundant SAS controllers to every hypervisor
node and / or looking for expensive multi-port SAS JBODs you'll have a pair (at least) of SoFS boxes doing a file level proxy in front of a SAS-controlled back end. So you'll compromise performance in favor of cost. See:
    http://davidzi.com/windows-server-2012/hyper-v-and-scale-out-file-cluster-home-lab-design/
Used interconnect diagram within this design would actually scale beyond 2 hosts. But you'll have to get a SAS switch (actually at least two of them for redundancy as you don't want any component to become a single point of failure, don't you?)
    2) With 2012 R2 all I/O from a multiple hypervisor nodes is done thru the storage fabric (in your case that's SAS) and only metadata updates would be done thru the coordinator node and using Ethernet connectivity. Redirected I/O would be used in a two cases
only a) no SAS connectivity from the hypervisor node (but Ethernet one is still present) and b) broken-by-implementation backup software would keep access to CSV using snapshot mechanism for too long. In a nutshell: you'll be fine :) See for references:
    http://www.petri.co.il/redirected-io-windows-server-2012r2-cluster-shared-volumes.htm
    http://www.aidanfinn.com/?p=12844
    3) These are independent things. CSV is not active/passive (see 2) so basically with an interconnection design you'll be using there's virtually no point to having one-CSV-per-hypervisor. There are cases when you'd still probably do this. For example if
you'd have all-flash and combined spindle/flash LUNs and you know for sure you want some VMs to sit on flash and others (no so I/O hungry) to stay within "spinning rust". One more case is many-node cluster. With it multiple nodes basically fight for a single
LUN and a lot of time is wasted for SCSI reservation conflicts resove (ODX has no reservation offload like VAAI has so even if ODX is present its not going to help). Again it's a place where SoFS "helps" as having intermediate proxy level turns block I/O into
file I/O triggering SCSI reservation conflicts for a two SoFS nodes only instead of an evey node in a hypervisor cluster. One more good example is when you'll have a mix of a local I/O (SAS) and Ethernet with a Virtual SAN products. Virtual SAN runs directly
as part of the hypervisor and emulates high performance SAN using cheap DAS. To increase performance it DOES make sense to create a  concept of a "local LUN" (and thus "local CSV") as reads targeting this LUN/CSV would be passed down the local storage
stack instead of hitting the wire (Ethernet) and going to partner hypervisor nodes to fetch the VM data. See:
    http://www.starwindsoftware.com/starwind-native-san-on-two-physical-servers
    http://www.starwindsoftware.com/sw-configuring-ha-shared-storage-on-scale-out-file-servers
(feeding basically DAS to Hyper-V and SoFS to avoid expensive SAS JBOD and SAS spindles). The same thing as VMware is doing with their VSAN on vSphere. But again that's NOT your case so it DOES NOT make sense to keep many CSVs with only 3 nodes present or
    SoFS possibly used.
    4) DPM is going to put your cluster in redirected mode for a very short period of time. Microsoft says NEVER. See:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh758090.aspx
    Direct and Redirect I/O
Each Hyper-V host has a direct path (direct I/O) to the CSV storage Logical Unit Number (LUN). However, in Windows Server 2008 R2 there are a couple of limitations:
For some actions, including DPM backup, the CSV coordinator takes control of the volume and uses redirected instead of direct I/O. With redirection, storage operations are no longer through a host’s direct SAN connection, but are instead routed
through the CSV coordinator. This has a direct impact on performance.
CSV backup is serialized, so that only one virtual machine on a CSV is backed up at a time.
In Windows Server 2012, these limitations were removed:
    Redirection is no longer used.
CSV backup is now parallel and not serialized.
    5) Yes, VSS and CBT would be used so data would be incremental after first initial "seed" backup. See:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff399619.aspx
    http://itsalllegit.wordpress.com/2013/08/05/dpm-2012-sp1-manually-copy-large-volume-to-secondary-dpm-server/
I'd look at some other options. There are few good discussion you may want to read. See:

I bought  my MacBook Pro in 2010. This is the first Mac I have owned and recently it is having some difficulty loading we pages, often timing out. This Mac environment is entirely different for me and I am not sure where to begin troubleshooting and/ or clean-up. I have moderate computer skills and try not to download or access questionable material, however recently I visited the Ap Store and purchased a couple of different aps to use in record keeping and for making a flyer. I am not even sure how to remove these programs to see if it helps.
Any tips or tricks are appreciated.
    Thank you!

Time to see about the PRAM battery.
By the way iOS and OS X are different systems.
iOS is the operating system for iPads, iPhones, and iPod touch.
Mac OS X is the operating system for Mac labelled computers.

  • LabVIEW possibilities for Android and embedded systems

    Dear Sir or Madam,
We are building some test environments based on your software and now we have came into discussions about future possibilities with LabVIEW. As there is a lot of information available we are getting a little bit confused about what we can do and what not with our current software. Now we own the "LabVIEW full development System for Windows" and we are interested in analysing the possibility of buying your application builder. The problem is that we would like to address, at least, two different issues with LabVIEW:
1st: we want to build controllers and self executable applications that work in Windows, Linux, MAC and Android. I've read many possibilities on the internet about LabVIEW but I'm not sure about what systems are officially supported, so: Is it possible to build Apps for these three systems from the Windows App Builder? Is there support for Android? Do Linux Apps run with Android?
2nd: The second issue is to embed LabVIEW into small microcontrollers to deploy our custom System managers and controllers. Is this possible? I've seen the ARM toolkit but I am not sure about what functionality of LabVIEW is available there. Can all the functions be used? Can it be customized to any device that is ARM? Is it possible to port to non-ARM devices or DSPs???
    Thanks in advance.

You would probably be better off talking to your local NI rep.  Clicking the contact NI tab at the top of your browser would be a good place to start if you do not know your local rep.

  • Can we use a 5508 WLC in Hong Kong and join 3602 APs in Vietnam to it? Any regulatory contraints?

    Hi friends,
I am looking for some wisdom here!
Just wondering if I can use a 5508 WLC in Hong Kong and join 3602 APs in Vietnam to it?
Any regulatory contsraints / guidelines that would prohibit from doing so?
    - Regards,
    Tarun.

You have two differnt regulations... here is a link:

You need to make sure you are not breaking any rules and it is best to have an AP that is specific to that country.  Also if you add multiple country codes on a WLC, the AP's will only be able to use the most common channels and TX power setting allowed on both.  Here is a link explaining that.
