Controlling a video in captivate

hi
im woking on a huge project in cappy, which featues a lot of streaming video
a request has come back to me that we need our learners to not be able to continue untill the video
has finished playing. i cant see anyway this can be done I hope im wrong
its rapidly turning into a show stopper any help would be great
KBN

Hi there
Perhaps there would be a widget that could do it. Other than that, the only thing I can fathom would be to time the slide to match the duration of the video. Configure the video to play automatically with no playback control to allow pausing. Then ensure the playback controls were turned off for the slide. This would trap the user into being forced to present the slide and the video with no way out until you cause a Button object to appear at the end of the slide. At that point the Button would allow them to navigate to the next slide.

  • Users controlling video in Captivate

    Hi guys,
I need to include a video in captivate and from what I can
see, it starts playing when I reach that particular slide. Will I
be able to give users better control on the video, for example, a
    start/pause button, a replay button?
    thanks
    JT

    Good morning JT
Assuming you are referring to a Flash Video here? If so,
there are settings for Flash Video that offer a "Skin" (playback
control). When you use a skin, normally the video is paused until
your user clicks the Play button.
If you are referring instead to a Full Motion clip, you could
use a Button or Click Box object to pause the slide.

  • How can i control a video embedded in pdf while viewing in adobe digital edition. is it possible?

I have a pdf file of 10 pages - in 2nd page of pdf there is video, I can control this video (play, pause, stop etc.) in Adobe Acrobat 9, but when we are opening this pdf in Adobe Digital Edition - Controls goes Hidden,  and we are not able to control the video. Is there any way to control the vedio?

    Hi,
It should be checking the Course on basis of the User Access i.e. whether the slides have been viewed fully or not as well as if there is a quiz has the user successfully completed it or not. So, in case of a video only slide views would be checked and passing criteria will depend on it

  • Need help in controlling a video (play/pause) with the main play bar in Cp7.

In a presentation, I'm doing an online ordering demo - my slide(s) have a video object, audio clip and may have various text and/or shapes that will transition from time to time. The problem being, if Pause is clicked in the main/TOC play bar, the presentation pauses but the video continues to play, until the end of that video. My video is an .f4v (I've also tried it as an .flv).
What can i do to allow the main play bar to control the video?

Insert as Slide video, not as Event video.  Then the playbar will also control the video.

  • Volume control for video playback through Apple TV2

I am trying to configure the volume settings used on airplay through apple TV2 and a macbook pro and Iphone4 all with most recent updates.
I am using the apple remote app on my iphone to control the apple tv.
    Whats working:
Using the pandora app on my iphone through aiplay to the apple tv, I can control the volume using the plus and minus buttons on the side of the iphone for volume control. Very cool and easy.
Using the apple remote app on my iphone I can control the itunes volume of different speakers by clicking on the airplay icon and using a slider.  Not as cool as using the hard +/- buttons but still works.
    Whats not working:
Controling volume on appleTV2 through the iphone remote app for video playbacks like netflix, and youtube.
Why I want this: RIght now I can control most of the multimedia right from my iphone including cranking the music up:) But when I switch over to video(Netlfix, Youtube) I have to get out another remote (stereo reciever) to control the volume. It seems we are so close to being able to control everything off the iphone, the only thing missing is volume control for video playback.
Is there a setting that can be changed or a solution I havent found?
    Thanks

Same problem with TV3. HDMI volume output is not adjustable, neither with the original Apple remote nor with any universal. Why ? Every simple settop-box is able to be volume adjusted. And a Mac Mini too ?!!!
I use a flatscreen TV. it has 3 HDMI inputs and one optical out for the audio going to an amp standing behind it. The sound of the TV is switched to go to the optical out.
HDMI 1 is connected to the satellite settop box with its  own remote control ( channel +/-, volume +/- etc. ) it work s fine.
HDMI 2 is connected to the MacMini HDMI out with its own remote control ( channel/music +/-, volume +/- ) it works fine too.
HDMI 3 was connected to Apple TV3 with its own remote control ( channel/music +/- but no volume ). I sent the TV3 back to Apple.
What's going wrong in the mind of Apple ? Why is the HDMI volume output of the MacMini adjustable with the Apple remote, and the TV3 not ?
I want not to discuss, wether a 4th remote control is useful or not. I don't want it. I want to adjust the volume with the originl remote control of the specific unit I use, because I need it anyway. It worked since years, but not with Apple TV3.
How can we help Apple to open the volume +/- function on their own remote control ?

  • Linking to external video in Captivate 7

I develop video-based training. Each slide includes mostly video. I've been successfully embedding f4v videos into Captivate projects for some time but video quality and file size issues make it necessary to begin linking to videos on external servers.
I've tried a number of options without success.
I create a video event, choose the url option, and add the url from the uploaded video. The only usable server choice is the Adobe Media Streaming Service. I've tested the videos on different servers including Amazon since the troubleshooting advice alerted me that only Adobe partners servers will be recognized. The project previews and the progress bar moves as if the video is playing but only the background file is visible. I tried all the preview options - no luck.
I decided to try the YouTube widget. I uploaded test videos to YouTube, inserted the Interaction widget and added the url, etc. This option results in a successful preview only when I choose the html 5 output in web browser option. Captivate will successfully publish the project but I get "Java Script Error unable to acquire LMS, API content, may not play properly" messages.
The published file performs like all of the unsuccessful previews. The file loads and acts as if the videos are playing in that the progress bar moves but there is no video, just the slide background image. I tried different output settings like just SWF, just html5, both SWF and html5, different versions of the flash player, etc. I also added the output folder to the Flash Global Security settings in case it was a permissions issue.
I'm working on a mac so I emailed a zipped file to my PC and tried to open in Internet Explorer to see if the file might play on a different system or browser - same outcome - no luck.
Making external video work is critical to my work and use of Captivate so I'm hoping there's something I'm missing or misunderstanding about what I need to do.
Any help or advice will be appreciated.

I'm continuing to have problems with the YouTube widget. My client sent me YouTube links and when I copied and pasted the new links into the Captivate file and the published and uploaded the file, the links didn't work.
To review, I uploaded video files to YouTube and used the interactions widget to insert the linked videos. The videos which I uploaded can be previewed in html5 in web browser but not in any other way. When I publish this file and view the file on my system on my browser (Safari) the file opens but the videos do not play. However, when I upload to my ftp site and open the file from there, the linked YouTube videos play.
So this led me to believe that I have a file that will work at least in html5 output. But when I replace the original YouTube links that I uploaded with new links provided by my client the videos preview in html5 in web browser mode but do not play on my system or when uploaded to my ftp site. All of the videos (mine and my clients) play in YouTube and preview in html5 mode.
Additionally, when I ouput the html5 file, the quiz doesn't work properly. The radio buttons don't appear on screen so when answers are selected the user has no way of knowing their selections have been accepted. Oddly, the quiz is registering answers since when you submit there is a brief flash during which you can see the buttons but they quickly disappear and results are tallied accurately at the end. But the quiz is unusable without user feedback for selections. You can view this performance beginning on the sixth slide (the beginning of the quiz).

Are html5 output files compatible with Learning Management Systems? Is there a way to use the YouTube widget in SWF output files?

  • How to record a video of Captivate itself?

Hello - how do I record a video of Captivate itself? It doesn't appear as a 'window to record' (Record New Project > Appliction > ..).
    Any help? Thanks in advance.
By the way, I am using version 5.

    Hello,
I have been creating a lot of Captivate SWF's using 2 instances of Captivate 5 or capturing CP5 with CP4. This is working fine, just needs some editing sometimes for the automatically generated Captions that on some level seem to have strange messages, which you will not have capturing CP5 with CP4. But the capturing process works fine. You can have a look at this video tutorial I published a long time ago (only one in English, mostly create in other languages). This work flow was not possible in Captivate 4, Rick is right:

  • Embed multiple YouTube videos in Captivate 5.5

I have multiple YouTube videos that I would like to insert into one Captivate file, each video on a separate slide. If the learner moves away from the slide, I'd like the video to stop. If they should return to the slide, ideally the video would be a the beginning point.
I've been searching for a while. I found one where it will play one YouTube video per Captivate file, but not multiple videos. Also that one would show a transparent gray over the video while it played.
    Thank you for any assistance.

    Erik,
Thank you for replying. I apologize that I did not reply sooner.
I thought I found a widget that I could embed the YouTube videos within a slide, but was having problems trying to get it to work.
I changed my plan and now have the video opening in a separate window. Because we do not have a technical person to help us for possible future issues this will be a better direction for us to move in.
    Again, thank you!

  • Does iTunes have any hidden picture controls for video playback (e.g. contrast, brightness) ?

Does iTunes have any hidden picture controls for video playback (e.g. contrast, brightness) ?
I haven’t been able to find any.
Since the .m4v file type appears to prevent any video bought or rented from the iTunes Store from being played using any other program the lack of these picture controls - if indeed they are lacking - make it seriously deficient as a video player.

Thanks for the rapid response to my enquiry.
I know that it’s possible to adjust the monitor’s performance via System Preferences but it is rather long-winded and I’d rather not alter the settings for the entire screen (and then have to change them all back once finished) when it’s only the video playback window that needs adjustment.
Since iTunes provides various options using the Equalizer for adjusting sound playback it seems rather odd that they don’t have a similar panel for video.
    Regarding QuickTime.
Apparently earlier versions (such as 7) had picture controls but the current version (10.4) does not.
I assume Apple are phasing out QT whose development seems to have stopped - or rather gone backwards since it now lacks capabilities it once had - and intend in future to treat iTunes as their universal media player which no doubt makes sense from their point of view.
I wasn’t aware of the .m4v file type when I made my first and probably last video purchase via iTunes yesterday and didn’t realise that it would restrict my options for playback so completely.
The experience has really put me off buying any additional video from the iTunes Store.

  • How to control SWF Video using JavaScript?

    Hi,
I'm developing a web page which will use Flash Videos. I need
to control the video without using a typical skin. The current tool
I'm using to convert my wmv to SWF FLV is Coffee Cup. A hex edit
suggests this is a Version 8 SWF.
I am trying to write some javascript to control which Frame
is displayed. I have seen code such as movie.TGotoFrame(...); and
    movie.GotoFrame, movie.StopPlay() etc. Unfortunately I cannot seem
to use these methods. Eventually I suspected that my SWF simply did
not make these methods available and when I run my video in my web
page a RightClick shows a Context Menu that has no Reverse,
Forward, Back options. Other SWF videos do have these options
(obviously). This seems to prove that nothing I could code would
make the GotoFrame work (ie no Forward (by one frame) option in
menu suggests it could never work from javascript).
    Some Questions
Is there a tool to examine a SWF to see what methods are
available to javascript control? (expose the API) and is there a
setting required in the <object> setup to enable javascript
    interaction?
Is there something about SWF V8 files that is the problem or
is likely that the CoffeeCup Web Video Player can only make
    partially functioning SWF Videos?
What is the difference between GotoFrame and TGotoFrame and
have these perhaps been superceeded by something else (there is an
Adobe page which suggests they are only available up to Version 5
(not sure if that means Version 5 of SWF files or Version 5 of the
FlashPlayer - to add to my confusion).
I'm not currently a Flash type developer and have no tools to
speak off and don't know ActionScript. I'm thinking of heading in
the Flash direction but not sure how to move forward.
    Cheers
    Stuart

    Thanks Alex,
    quote:
You need to learn to move forward :)
I have a Greek friend who when I asked him how he was getting
on with his dissertation project stated "in Greece we have a saying
    - every start is different".
In this case my start is to dip a toe in the Flash water and
    not get scalded.
    Anyhow,
One clarification from the CoffeeCup forum helped me to
understand that my SWF used an external FLV and that may explain
why the rightclick context menu did not have the more movie
specific Back, Forward etc. Sounds plausible. So assume external
    FLV.
    quote:
it is very easy to add a small script into the root timeline
    of your SWF file
A little hand holding here would be appreciated. I have
downloaded the Flex SDK. Can I use this free tool to do what you
suggest? Using MXML and ActionScript. If so, a little bit more info
    would help.
    quote:
That's all, it should work. Of course, you can tell me that
    your movie
already has an onEnterFrame() eventhandler at the root
    timeline.
What's a problem? Just create an empty movieclip and add this
    script
into its frame 1 (it maybe the only frame). But do not forget
    to
change "this.xxxx" to "_root.xxxx" within such script.
Hhhmmm. A bit stumped. I've had a look at the SWF using
FlashDig. I noticed what appears to be Assembly Language (Push,
Pops, Jumps etc) and presumably in amongst all of that may be an
onEnterFrame. Perhaps linked to a DefineFunction2 node.
Unfortunately the SWF is very large (60K) and there is no
search/find tool so that makes finding functions a bit harder than
expected. Struggling a little with the concept of _root and Level0
    etc.
I assume you are suggesting manually building a replacement
SWF (empty movieclip?) if the onEventHandler happens to be used for
something else. Presumably set/getVariables only interacts with
this function so if it is 'booked' in my SWF I would be in a spot
of bother with your suggested approach?
I wonder if you are assuming I have some sort of Flash tool.
Possibly like this one shown in this tutorial
    WebWasp
    Panorama tutorial
Note. The panorama is actually close to what I eventually
want to do except I intend to make a video of a scene by rotating
clockwise by 360 degrees. Then add buttons onto the SWF (or DHTML)
which communicates with the SWF to move forward or back through the
video. Moving forward would be like a clockwise rotation and moving
back would create anticlockwise rotation. This explains the need to
GotoFrame (or similar). From that perspective I don't need to
become a Flash guru (for now) and can't justify buying all the
expensive flash tools for this one (apparently) simple task: Frame
by Frame control of an external FLV via the SWF.
Note. I've started using SWFObject. Might this library help?
    In summary.
How do I add the onEnterFrame ActionScript sample (or
something similar) into a SWF using only the Flex SDK command line
tools or similar in order to control an external FLV?
    Cheers

  • Remote control Sony video camera with Mac Mini?

Is it possible to connect an IR transmitter to a mac mini to be able to control a Sony camera from a remote location miles away? Specificaly, I want to be able to point my Sony IR remote control at my Mac Book Pro at home to control a video camera at work via the internet. Control features include focus, zoom, iris, White balance, etc. Is this possible? (The Sony camera comes with a remote control)

I never heard of such a device but there's a bunch of stuff in Google:
"Results 1 - 10 of about 611,000 for "long distance remote control."
Your best bet would probably be a telephone, with the person at the other end in the same room as the camera.

I am trying to add a full screen mode button for non scalable pubished video in captivate 7. For captivate 6 I used a widget from CPguru but that is not compatible with captivate 7.

    Hello,
We have tried the Fullscreen widget from CPguru.
It seems to be working fine at our end.
Could you please try using the widget in a new project.
It could be specific to the project you have created. If possible, share the cptx file with us for better investigation.
Share the file (at https://workspaces.acrobat.com) and send it to [email protected]

  • Embed Video in Captivate 7

Is it possible to embed a video in Captivate 7?

Please tell us what your definition of "embed" is.
With Captivate, all video is simply linked to and is called when needed. It is never an integrated part of the output that would simply be included with the output file. It would always have to be included among the files you distribute.

  • Embedded Vimeo videos in Captivate 8: Stop working after Border or Scrolling settings are changed

I am embedding Vimeo videos into Captivate 8 slides, using Insert > Web object > Embed. It usually works fine, but then if I change the Border or Scrolling settings, the published slide shows a 404 for (not found) error. I have confirmed that the Embed code does not change. The only workaround I have found is to recreate the Embed objects. Is there a way to stop this problem from happening?

    Here's the embed code:
