Controlling Amplitube in Mainstage

I am unable to map a Mainstage screen control to any of Amplitube's parameters. Yet I have no problem with Guitar Rig.
I do the same procedure for both: click on the screen control, select Map Parameter, move the parameter in Amplitube (e.g. the wah pedal), click Map Parameter again but it never registers. I've tried manually selecting every parameter listed in the Amplitube folder but again the control never maps.
Any idea what I'm doing wrong? I'm baffled as it just works as intended with all other plugins and I can't find anything here or on IKmultimedia's site which suggests that Amplitube works differently or that there is a problem.
Any help gratefully received.

Yeah, Amplitube works very differently from Guitar Rig (especially Guitar Rig 4) and after using both a lot, I've come around to realizing GR midi mapping works way easier/better than Amplitube imho.
So, I think the step you're missing is, you have to first of all use X-Gear as the plug-in, then select your patch from whichever Amplitube module your using. You then need to tell Amplitube that you want to do automation and what you want to automate (this is the bit you don't have to do in Guitar Rig).
- Select the "Automation" box in X-Gear.
- It will bring up a panel where on the right side is the Plug-In list and on the left is DAW Automation and the middle has Add, Remove, Move Up/Down, etc
- Select the item you want to map from the Plug-In drop down list. It's a nested drop-down based Amp, Stomp, etc with each item within those areas.
- When you locate the item you want, click on it, then click on the Param you want to assign it to, and then click "Add"
- Then go back into Mainstage and in the parameter mapping assign your control to the corresponding parameter you assigned in Amplitube.
- That's it.
The problem is that you have to do the parameter mapping in two places, first in Amplitube, then in Mainstage.
Hope that helps,
Jas.

  • How can i use Kontrol Rig 3 to control pedals in Mainstage

Hi, I have Guitar rig 4 and the Kontrol Rig 3 controller and they work great together.  however, i would like to use the Kontrol RIg as a midi controller for the amps and pedals in mainstage.  could someone please help me out here with how to make this happen.  Mainstage recognizes the Kontrol Rig but i can't seem to make it "learn" anything in the layout mode.  any help would be GREATLY appreciated!
    thanks,
    shane

    Hi
    Yes... absolutely:
1st you need to download the Controller Editor from NI, then you need to configure the RK to work in "MIDI Mode". Assign the switches & pedal(s) to whatever CC's you wish.
Then, in Mainstage, create the screen controls and MIDI Learn them.
You may need the latest RK drivers too.

  • Fyi, new video posted..Mainstage and Amplitube 3 Stompbox Control

For anyone looking at how to map and externally MIDI control Amplitube 3 stompboxes in Mainstage.
I'm trying to get better at doing these videos, so any feedback is very welcome, positive or negative! The only thing I can't do is replace my crappy voice
Somewhat off topic, but even mic tech advice is helpful. Since I'm no vocalist I don't own a "real" mic and I've just been using my Skype mic but I'm looking to get a mic that will be good for voiceovers. I can justify if more if the same mic could also be used for acoustic guitar recording so suggestions are welcome.
    Thanks and here's the video:

Here are the links for each of the parts.
    1 & 2 are Logic 3 & 4 are Mainstage.
It might be too much to take in all at once so treat like a mini-series

  • Logic's Amplitube Plugin Won't Recieve MIDI Signals

I have gone through everything. I have an Behringer FCB1010 which works with MainStage 2, Amplitube 3, and everything. I even have it working with Logic's pan, volume, and pedalboard. Pretty impressive stuff!
Here's the problem. I want to be able to control Ampltiube 3 with my footpedal as a plugin, but it will only work as a standalone. As soon as I click "learn" in the plugin, no matter what button I press on my board, it won't learn it. I also cannot get a learn command going in "Controller Assignments."
What is wrong here? Am I missing some sort of setup in Logic to get this to work? Has anybody been able to control Amplitube as plugin with anything? Any help would be appreciated.

18 hours later I figured it out. It turns out that you have to your 3rd Party plug-ins in the "Controls" window rather than the graphical window in order to program each control. You could program it in the graphical unit, but you won't be able to see your controls working. You can only see that in the basic window. Either way, you have to learn each function through "Control Assignments" and through the plugin's learn mode.
I do find it a shame you cannot view third party plugins in a graphical mode, but then again I am not surprise as I've had some graphic window issues before with other plugins. Apple advisors have said that is a con when working with plugins in Logic, functional but not perfect.
Anyways, the problem is solved and hopefully I save somebody the from their painstaking quest of finding out why their program isn't working.

  • Can Mainstage 2 drive Apple Keynote, or other video/slides?

    Greetings fellow Keynoticians...
I've used Keynote for years in concert, and am looking to upgrade to '09. I'm also a Logic 8 newbie, and am looking to upgrade to 9, mainly for Mainstage 2. I'm a one-man band. Years ago I used to have a full-blown MIDI show with a simple footswitch driving sequencers, keys, drum machines, and complicated lighting all via a very cool setlist feature in a program called MasterTrax Pro (rest it's soul...they went out of business years ago, as did the support for newer OS's). I'm looking to resurrect this idea again in concert, and I'd like to add video/slides, if possible...
I'm looking to use a footswitch (Apogee GiO or Roland FC-300) to control Mainstage 2 in concert to call up/launch: Playback audio, guitar patches, do live looping, drive keyboard MIDI instruments & fx, and lighting cues via MIDI. I'm really psyched about this. (Looks like this will all work via MIDI control changes with Mainstage, and one of the above pedal boards connected to my MacBook Pro via USB, right?).
Here's my dilemma and main question: Is there any way that Mainstage 2 can drive Keynote (slides/video/text) via MIDI control/patch changes, or via some other protocol? (i.e. Hit a footswitch button, and it jumps to a specific slide/sequence, based on a MIDI control change, or other protocol?) Or, is there any way to drive other multi-media programs (Quicktime, Powerpoint, Mediashout, etc.) via Mainstage? My goal is to hit one footswitch which will launch both the audio (Mainstage) and video/slide-show (Keynote or other program) via MIDI-mapping in Mainstage, ideally both playing on the same computer, or 2 Macs synced, if necessary.
Seems simple enough, since there are programmable hand-held remotes that control Keynote (forward/back one slide, pause, blackout, etc.), I'm just not sure what protocol they're using (I'm not a programmer). Makes sense there would be a way to map MIDI control data thru the Mac OS to control Keynote (forward/back one slide, or ideally, skip to a specific slide/sequence, like with a MIDI program change), I just can't find anything on the support sites for Keynote, Mainstage, Logic, or the GiO or FC-300, or anything else with Google. Anyone try this before? Any ideas? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!
    Shawn

Thanks, Brian, I appreciate it. I think you're on to something...I don't think I'll need to actually see Mainstage, or anything else other than Keynote, so it might all work.
    To Follow up...
A friend from the Mainstage forum pointed me to Alien Apparatus Show Control application and footswitch. (www.alienapparatus.com). Below is my dialogue with their tech support. I will post again after I've had a chance to try it with Keynote, and/or Mainstage. I think my biggest question now is if Show Controller and Keynote running will work w/Mainstage at the same time (I really want to use it for the guitar rig, I think). Does anyone know if Show Controller will work with Mainstage and Keynote? Could someone test it for me if you have them? I don't have Mainstage 2. Here's the tech support dialogue:
So...here's my questions... Can you tell me:
+1) Can you use Show Controller to control Keynote specifically? Have you done it? Can you program Show Control to trigger the "keystrokes" in Keynote? Are "keystrokes" the same as "hotkeys", or is the a Mac OSX command? Can you email me some documentation/links about this? If not Keynote, is there any other program you can recommend that will play photo slide shows, video, lyrics w/beautiful transitions, that will respond to keystrokes and/or MIDI program changes from Show Controller that I can call up specific scenes from your foot controller with?+
Yes, you can control Keynote with the Hotkeys feature. Just to make sure of this, I just called up Show Controller and Keynote and did it. Yep, it certainly can be done. In fact, you can download the demo of Solo Performer Show Controller from our web site and you can give it a go yourself. Hotkeys are really just keypresses that you can send to other programs. In this case I sent right arrow keypresses to advance the Keynote slides. In the Hotkey editor of Solo Performer Show Controller, there is a field where you type in the keys to send. In this case, I want to send a right-arrow key. This is a "special" key that does not show up when you type in the field, so what you do is type "<right>" into the field. These "special" key commands are documented in both the manual and the online help. If you ever get stuck, just fire an email to me and ask.
+2) Can you run Show Controller on the same computer as Keynote? The Keynote Help in Keynote '08 talks about "Using Other Applications During a Presentation": To use Exposé, Dashboard, or other applications (such as Remote Desktop) while you’re playing a slideshow, you need to set a Keynote preference. Choose Keynote > Preferences, click Slideshow, and select “Allow Exposé, Dashboard, and others to use screen.” Selecting this option may cause your slideshow to run more slowly and animations to display poorly." Have you done this?+
You sure can run Show Controller and Keynote on the same computer. I just did it. One thing that I should point out, though, is that Keynote tries to take over your entire screen. If you have a second screen or projector (as you have indicated that you do), then you should be fine. Otherwise, you will only see Keynote unless muck about with Keynote's preferences as you've pointed out. If you're displaying on a second monitor (or projector), then you don't need to worry about any of this.
+3) Can you run Show Controller to drive Mainstage 2 and/or Logic, to take advantage of all the live audio capabilities (i.e. Pedal Board, real-time fx, soft synths, etc.) Have you done it?+
I've never done it personally. Generally I just run all of my audio form Solo Performer Show Controller. But you very likely can accomplish what you want. Solo Performer Show Controller can send MIDI commands that most audio programs will respond to. You can send MIDI commands to the IAC bus. This is how you send MIDI to programs that are running on your computer; its an "internal" MIDI chain. You just set up the receiving program to watch for MIDI on the IAC bus.
+4) Can Mainstage 2 be used as a slave to Show Controller? Can you run them both on the same mac? Have you done it?+
I've never done this, but I see no reason why it can't be done. Solo Performer Show Controller can send either MIDI or hotkeys out that Mainstage should respond to.
+5) Can you run Show Controller and Mainstage 2 on the same machine, or do you need 2 macs?+
You should be able to do this with one Mac.

  • Mainstage 2 & Euphonix MC Mix

Have been using MC Mix with my Logic 8. Upgraded to Logic 9, & would like to know if any knows how to utilize the Euphonix MC Mix as a control surface for MainStage 2.
Running MS2 in 32 bit mode, therefore no issue with Eucon protocol for Logic 9.
I know you can map Midi signals to controls, but with the MC Mix using Eucon protocol possible.
Layout mode recognizes the Euphonix mixer, but will not learn.
Any help ideas or ridicule appreciated

I've decided to "take the plunge" and jump right into Logic 8. The few days I spent mucking with Garage Band really helped as there are some similarities with Logic. With the help of forums like this and Apples' superb printed manuals which accompany Logic 8, the task seems quite "doable" for a relative newcomer to computer based recording. I just got my Euphonix today and I KNOW it works beautifully with Logic. Just for fun I may give it a try with Garage Band and see if indeed it does work. Thanks for the replies guys!

  • Can I use Lion on a gig with Mainstage? No, really

Sure, it's "compatible", but that doesn't necessarily translate into "yes, you can trust it on a gig without worrying"
    Mainstage 2.1.3
    Macbook 2.2ghz  6gb
Only third party plug-ins are Pianoteq and Mtron.
Yes, that's an old processor, but it's been pretty solid for almost three years of Mainstage gigging.
Thinking seriously about getting the new Mac Mini, using either the iPad or one of those little USB monitors for display.   Any suggestions, advice or warnings would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Stewart

Originally, I was going to get the Mac Mini for dedicated gig/Mainstage, but the sticking point was that I couldn't find a portable monitor solution.  Even though I can control everything on Mainstage with keyboards, pedals and Korg NanoKontrol, I felt it would be prudent to have SOME kind of display to look at; something around 9"-12".
After much research, forums and discussions, I concluded that the iPad won't work for this (as a monitor)   I haven't found hardware solution (supported or jailbroken)  to get video IN to the iPad. Trying to do it over wifi, although technically possible, is not something I want to worry about before a gig.
I also looked into those USB touchscreen monitors, but everything I read suggested  that the Mini wouldn't be able to use ANY USB monitor as the primary and ONLY monitor.
Short answer, for the first few gigs, I'll keep my old MacBook running 10.6.8 plugged in to my mixer while I'm trying out Lion/Mainstage on my new MBP 2.3 i5.  I'll report back on it's reliability.

  • Kontrol 49 Keyboard and Mainstage

I have a problem for my keyboard to work with mainstage.
I hit the keys but it is not properly transmitted to the software.
Once I found the solution with a "learn" button but I cannot find it anymore...

There's a learn button in Layout mode that you use to make the connection between controls in the Mainstage workspace and your MIDI controller. So you'd select the Mainstage object, hit the Learn button on the left (or use Cmd+L) then move the control on your hardware.

  • How to add applescript to mainstage ?

I would like to controle iTunes from mainStage 2 with actions that does'nt exist in the action script action :
change volume, go direct to a specify song.
I have made the scripts but I don't find where to put them, in wich folder.
    Thank's for your help

that's just a tweak on your script.  you need a loop that tests the file name and appends a character on failure:
    tell application "Microsoft Excel"
              tell active workbook
set sheetHolder to sheet "DUMMY 1"
                        repeat
      -- get next sheet
set currentSheet to next of sheetHolder
-- check for end sheet and exit
if name of currentSheet is "DUMMY 2" then exit repeat
-- rename (looping till a name is found)
set finalName to string value of cell "T18" of currentSheet
                                  repeat with i from 0 to 25
                                            try
-- try to set name.  on success exit loop.
set name of currentSheet to finalName
                                                      exit repeat
                                            on error
-- on failure append an incrementing lower case letter and try again
set finalName to (string value of cell "T18" of currentSheet) & (ASCII character (97 + i))
                                            end try
                                  end repeat
-- crawl across sheets, inchworm style
                                  set sheetHolder to currentSheet
                        end repeat
              end tell
    end tell

  • Sax Brothers Kontakt Player CC mappings re-assigned each time re-start Mainstage

Using Mainstage 2.0 with two USB MIDI devices attached:
    * MIDI2USB cable connected to Korg N1 with sustain + expression pedal
    * EWI USB breath controller
I use both keyboard & breath control patches as needed.
When using with Kontakt 5 player and "The Sax Brothers" plugins each time I re-start MainStage the breath control stops working on the patches. Opening up the settings for each patch, the Kontakt 5 settings, I can see the CC mapping is re-assigned
EXPRS is getting mapped to CC11, instead of CC2 ( breath controller.)
IF I reset it, it will work fine for the duration of having MainStage open, even switching back and forth between other patches. Saving the settings however, it is always getting reset.
Is there a way I can stop this remapping ocurring?
    Some other points:
    * When first adding the Software Instrument Track with Kontakt 5, the setting is fine. It is only after re-starting Mainstage it's not
    * The default if I use Kontakt 5 standalone is to use CC2 breath controll, so suspect Mainstage is somehow changing this

Ok I already figured out how to do this. For those who have a similar issue:
    1. Select your patch in Patch List (i.e. Alto Sax)
    2. In Channel Strips select your Software Instrument Track (i.e. Kontakt 5)
    3. In Software Instrument Channel Strip Inspector select MIDI Input tab
    4. Change Controllers Input to Breath (2) and leave Output as Expression (11)
Saving these settings, patches now work correctly even after restarting.

  • 32 bit mode option missing for CS5.1

I have both CS5.1 and CS6 PS istalled on my iMAC. I want to use CS5.1 with filters that only work in 32 bit mode. I can no longer change my CS5.1 PS to open in 32- bit mode. The option is mysteriously missing from the "get info" panel. I have accesed "get info" properly but clicking on the PS app icon, then right clicking to get the get info panel as I have always done in the past, (no, I'm not high-lighting the PS folder).
The option to reset PS 5.1 to 32 bit is nowhere to be found. Why, and how do I get it back? Uninstall/ reinstall PS 5.1?
    I am also using OS X 10.8.4
    Thanks for any help!

Thanks for your response.  This is from page 13 of the MainStage 3 manual:
To open MainStage in 64-bit mode, Control-click the MainStage icon in the Applications folder, choose Get Info from the shortcut menu, then deselect the “Open in 32-bit mode” checkbox
I tried your suggestion, but can't find in Activity Monitor where it indicates the bit mode.  Can you clarify?  Thanks again.

I recently loaded MainStage 3, and went to disable the 'Open in 32-bit mode' option, so I could run it in 64-bit, but the checkbox does not exist.  It is still there for the MainStage 2 icon, but not for the MainStage 3 icon.  Has anyone had this experience and know a solution?

Thanks for your response.  This is from page 13 of the MainStage 3 manual:

  • Feature Request: Support for External Synths/Modules (via MIDI)

    Hi,
I just posted a feature request (via the Apple Feature Request form) but also wanted to post here. I use a combination of hardware instruments (sound modules) and software instruments.
    *My Setup*
    - Keyboard #1: M-Audio Axiom 25 (also includes a USB MIDI interface)
    - Keyboard #2: Roland A-33 Controller Keyboard (via my Axiom-25's MIDI In)
    - Edirol USB MIDI Interface (sound modules plugged into MIDI Outs)
    - Sound Module #1: Roland JV-1080
    - Sound Module #2: Yamaha TX802
MainStage currently takes care of all my software instrument needs, however, what is missing is the ability to add external physical MIDI devices as either patches or as channel strips. I would like to use a combination of software and hardware instruments in the same song, and control this via Mainstage.
    Example:
    - Patch 1 could potentially contain 2 software instruments, each seperately controlled by a physical keyboard (this is currently possible)
    - Patch 2 could contain 1 software instrument and 1 external sound module each controlled by a physical keyboard (this is currently impossible)
    - Patch 3 could contain 2 external sound modules, mapped to different ports and/or channels, and therefore independantly controlled by my 2 keyboads (this is also currently impossible)
Would I be correct in assuming that this is a fairly common limitation of MainStage?
    Message was edited by: olafwagner

I have achieved MIDI out from Mainstage, thank to the information found on this forum..
what I actually do is send Prg Change from every preset I select to control a hardware vocal harmony pedal. this way i don't have to remember which setting i use on every song or even, section of a song.
    *Step 1:*
Library>application support>Logic> create a folder named precisely MAINSTAGE CALLBACKS
inside of it, create an applescript with this code
    on action(parameter)
set myprogramchange to programchangenumber of parameter
    tell application "MidiPipe"
    MIDISend toPort "MidiPipe AppleScript Input" withData {192, myprogramchange}
    end tell
    end action
    *step 2*
    download MIDIPIPE from http://homepage.mac.com/nicowald/SubtleSoft/
and install it in your apps folder
    *step 3*
start midipipe, and define the following modules
MIDI IN-> use applescript input from menu
MIDI OUT-> route to your midi interface desired output
save this to a Midipipe file you can easily access
Now, when I go to a gig I FIRST (this is important) load midipipe and my preset, and just hide it and let it work in the background
Start mainstage, and set the program change of every PATCH to what I want to be sent over MIDI OUT when I enter the preset (-1 if needed or modify the previous applescript).
Ok, this just gives you Prg change... if you want something like CC or others, you can look at some of the example files on midipipe, and write your own applescripts to be used from a control within mainstage (you know, select a screen control, and assign it to an applescript located in library>application suport>logic>Mainstage scripts. you have to tell the applescript to receive incoming data from mainstage and send it (with even some filtering or transforming) to midipipe to go to the outside world.
One last idea: i used a free plug-in called MIDIIO that, although the plugin analysis on mainstage might say does not pass, you can use it anyway, and lets you insert it as if it was a plugin instrument...then you just route your screen controller to a MIDI parameter on that track, and there you go...but in the past it was not as solid as the midipipe solution.
I am still investigating...I am pursuing having my hardware controller knobs to follow screen settings everytime I just change a patch, but lack some info on how to get parameter values when entering the patch ¿anyone knows, blueberry, zuelito...? I promise to share the results!

  • Bluetooth 4.0 on my mid 2010 iMac?

    Hiya,
I'd like to start using a bluetooth foot pedal (IK Blueboard) to control amplitube on my mac but it needs bluetooth 4.0 to connect which my apparently aging mid 2010 iMac doesn't have.
Does anyone know of any mac compatible usb Bluetooth 4.0 dongles? I'm searching right now and drawing a blank which I find pretty weird.
    Cheers!

I have a inateck BT 4 Dongle which I am reliably informed works for Macs for exactly the same reason - blueboard connection on a mid 09 mac. My problem is that I don't seem to be able to control the dongle - still working on it so will keep you posted as to my success (or not!).

  • Audio Unit Validation hangs

Problem: When I'm in MainStage -> Audio Unit Manager and I click the Reset and Rescan Selection button, an Audio Unit Validation Results window opens to report passing results. After closing the window, MainStage toolbar commands don't work. Clicking on the desktop, then again on MainStage makes the window re-appear. It's like the window had disappeared when I closed it before, but didn't really close; didn't hand control back to MainStage, so MainStage acts like the window is still open. It is here that MainStage hangs. The only way to get out is to Force Quit MainStage.
What is this? What fixes it?
Deleting ~/Library/Cache/com.apple.audiounits.cache does not fix this.
    Environment:
    MainStage version 1.0.2
    Mac OS X version 10.5.7
    MacBook, 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM

    Ha! I'm brilliant!
Once I learned that NI Battery 2 is incompatible with Intel Macs, I deleted HD/Library/Audio/Plug-ins/Components/Battery 2.component.
    Everything works now.
Apple, how 'bout spewing out a nasty-gram instead of just hanging?
