Controlling apple tv from my macbook

i know this question has been answered several times already but the latest post i saw was from january '11. i was just checking to make sure this hasnt changed for the late '11 macbook pros, that there is still no way to controll apple tv from a macbook.

Welcome to the Apple community.
No, other than sending content from iTunes via airplay from the computer, there is no other way to control the Apple TV from it.

If you see a red light in the audio output port, then the internal switch is stuck.  Insert the earphone plug a few times and see if you can trip the switch.  If that fails, insert a cocktail stirrer and the like and jiggle it around inside.  If that fails, take it to an Apple store and have the technicians at the genius bar do it for you.

  • HT1338 How can i control my iPad from my macbook?

How can i control my iPad from my macbook?

The iPhone has a "remote" app that lets you control Keynote on a Mac, but not on another iOS device (iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch).
There are some apps that let you control limited content on another iOS device - but the content has to be within the app. You might check out SyncPad - perhaps you can import the presentation into it and then control it on the iPad.

  • Prevent Apple Remote from waking MacBook Pro

The Apple Remote that comes with the new MacBook Pro can be used to put the machine to sleep. It can also be used to wake it from sleep, by pushing any button on the remote.
Is there a way to prevent the Apple Remote from being able to wake the machine, other than removing its battery or using the Security settings to turn the IR port off? Both seem a little drastic, as I do want to be able to use the remote once the machine is on; I just don't want the remote waking it accidentally, especially when I'm travelling.

thanks, I had no idea that was possible.
As for your problem, I don't know, but surely if your MBP is in a bag, and the remote is not in line-of sight, it would not accidentally wake it anyway??
Also I'm pretty sure the MBP will not wake up if the lid is closed.

  • Controlling Apple Chess from the command line

Hello is it possible to control Apple Chess with the command line? I would like to get two computers to play against each other over a wireless connection, either airport of bluetooth.
Any other suggestions would be great!
    Thanks,
    Tim

Hey all thanks for your replies. I have figured it out using Max/MSP to send Applescript UI messages to the terminal. Each computer has a patch on it and plays after the other one has made a move. It is quite fun to program as it is using the chess app as an algorithm... anyhow i can't use screen sharing because i want the computers to talk to each other as if they were playing a game of chess against against one another by speaking the moves to each other.
As if they were two computers at leisure playing chess in a park!
    Best,
    Tim

  • Control apple account from another device

My ipod was stolen, is there anyway I could sign out of my Apple account from the ipod, using another device?

    lost/stolen
No app on the iPod is required.
    - If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected, on a computer browser go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up or continue to show off-line.
    - You can also wipe/erase the iPod and have the iPod play a sound via iCloud.
    iCloud: Erase your device
    iCloud: Use Lost Mode
    - If not shown, then you will have to use the old fashioned way, like if you lost a wallet or purse.
    - Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to police
    - There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the iPod (it erases it) using it unless you had iOS 7 on the device. With iOS 7, one has to enter the Apple ID and password to restore the device.
    - Apple will do nothing without a court order

  • HT4352 can i control my apple tv from my macbook or only from my other devices and the apple remote.

Just got it and i can control it from everything else including my verizon and sony remotes.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can control the Apple TV with the supplied remote, the remote app from the app store on an iOS device and compatible programmable remotes, you can't control it from your computer (except for streaming content to it from iTunes)

  • How do I get music to stream to Apple TV from my macbook air with Mavericks

Just bought a Macbook Air last week.
I am very conversant with Apple TV and Macs.  I have two iMacs and stream music from them to Apple TV and it's fine. They are running Lion and Snow Leopard.
My Air is running Mavericks. I open iTunes, enable Home Sharing, but the only airplay icon I can find is at the very top of the window beside the wifi symbol etc.
When I click on that it does MIRROR - I don't want MIrror. But I can't find the usual icon for sharing with Apple TV in iTunes - it's nowhere to be found.
I am just a bit frustrated at this. Can anyone tell me how I can play music from my Air to Apple TV without mirroring it? So frustrating!
Right now I'm streaming it from my iMac but ... what if the only computer I had was the Air? How can I work and stream music to my TV - I like to listen to it on the TV with photos on the screensaver.
    Thanks.
    Judie

The ability to send music via iTunes is in the upper left corver. On the right of the volume control. When you click on it, it gives you the option of Computer only, Apple TV only or both. Or more if you have more than just the Apple TV to do AirPlay. You can adjust volume differently on each "speaker" too.
Holding option and pressing the mute, volume down or volume up will also give you the option to AirPlay everything on your Mac to the AppleTV. As Tuttle suggested. But that is everything from the Mac, including alerts and such. Where as the iTunes AirPlay will only do the music.

  • HT1619 How do I disconnect an Apple remote from my MacBook Pro w/ Mountain Lion update?

My friend set up Apple TV while I was using my laptop in the same room and the remote is now connected to my laptop. I've looked at a bunch of different sites and forums trying to figure out how to disconnect it and it seems that with the new Mountain Lion operating system, there is no way to do this. PLEASE HELP it's driving me crazy because everytime he presses a buttom on the remote, it interferes with what I'm doing.

Sorry, but my late 2009 MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion continues to be be controlled by the ATV2 remote after disabling remotes in system preferences. Anyone else having the issue or has a solution?
    Cheers!

  • How do I delete an Apple ID from my MacBook Pro?

I got my bosses old MacBook Pro but her Apple ID is still registered to it so I cannot register mine to it, making it difficult to update the apps on there. How can I completely delete it and register with my own?

Take a look at this link from Apple which tells you all you should do before selling or giving away a Mac. You should be able to find what you're looking for.

  • Running two Apple displays from one Macbook Pro?

I have two Apple displays with mini-display ports.  I have ONE Macbook Pro with ONE mini-display port.  Problem.
I purchased this USB 2.0 to DVI Display Adapter from Monoprice but still can't figure out how to get my mini-display ports to work with this.
Is this even the right product?

You can use another DVI, VGA, or even HDMI display for far cheaper with this adapter, US$60 plus shipping:

Warning: Results may be unacceptably laggy.
But a converter to Mini DisplayPort is quite expensive, US$150 plus shipping:

  • Is there an application that will allow me to control my iphone from my macbook?

i'd like to use my macbook to do all the setup and what not vs the small keyboard on screen.  Maybe im a few years ahead of my self here but i've been a mac user since my apple se with 2 YES TWO FLOPPY DRIVES!!!!
i'll admit after we left OS9 i began to just use the mac rather than learn command prompts and all that Gooey stuff.  OSX didnt turn me away from mac but it makes me feel less "Confident" when trying to make applications, fonts, systems and hardware play nicely.  I'm that mac user that twist ties and neatly hides all wires and what not so you only see the laptop and the phone with a little mouse next to them.
Anyhow, if anyone presently has their new iPhone 4s connected to their Mac and can flip thru the actual phone via the CPU i'd love to know where to start!
    I appreciate any input!

The above is actually my post.  i just got my old user id back.  Any help on this topic would be appreciated.

  • Airplay mirroring keeps cutting out when watching apple tv from a macbook pro

Recently I have had difficulties watching any itunes movies or downloaded shows on my tv using apple tv. While watching the movie or show on my tv,  airplay mirroring will shut off without warning and the movie continues playing on my macbook but in order to start watching on my tv again, I have to reconnect to airplay mirroring (which sometimes works only to shut off again several minutes later, or I get an error for airplay). I have an OS X version 10.8.5. and my apple tv devise is less than a year old. I never had this problem before with my apple tv. Any ideas about what might be wrong, or what I can do to fix this?

Try changing your energy saver settings.   Make sure the macbook is plugged in and change both display and computer sleep to never.  When your display goes to sleep airplay will shut off.  I don't watch a lot of tv on airplay from my mac, but this works for when I'm streaming radio or music.  I suggest getting a cheap iPod touch (with airplay) on craigslist if you don't have an iPhone.  I've seen them as low as $30.  Then get the Air Video app ($3) and the Remote app (free).  These two apps take care of all of my tv/movie watching needs.
If your appleTV is too far from your wireless router then you will have trouble using any of these features.  Try purchasing an extra long (100') cat5 cable from monoprice.com and moving your router to a more central area of your house.  You can even put a second router in your home using this cat5 and get great internet connection everywhere!

  • WOAH! AWESOME NEW FEATURE! CONTROL APPLE TV FROM YOUR COMPUTER!!!!

turn your apple tv on, but don't have it playing anything.... go to itunes on your computer and in the lower right there's a little drop down that says computer, or APPLE TV! select apple TV and select what you want to play from your itunes screen!
I take back all bad things I've said about this update!

I've been looking for this for a while. I have my ATV hooked into a home audio system.. Often I'll be sitting in my office and want to play a particular song... instead of going into the family room, turning on the TV, going through the ATV menus to find the song... I can just open itunes and click the song, or playlist i want to hear!
Maybe not a big deal for most... but it's HUGE for me! wewt!
