Controlling Apple TV with Remote App on iPhone 5 Issues

Hello,
Been having this problem since I got my iPhone 5, for about a month.
When I am in the Remote app on my iPhone, and I have chosen my Apple TV as my device, choose my iMac to play content off of, once I find my content and select it, the following happens for anything, movies, tv shows, music, music videos:
Tap content to begin playing > Screen on iPhone goes to Now Playing screen with no artwork and title says "Lable" > the spinning wheel appears on the screen from the Apple TV and spins for about 10 seconds > Meanwhile, the Remote app loses its connect to the Apple TV and says "Connecting to Apple TV" > Once the spinning wheel is done it goes back to the main menu of the Apple TV > Remote app goes back to the available computers screen.
I am signed in to home sharing on all systems. I have restored the Apple TV from the latest software and also deleted and reinstalled the Remote app.
The reason i know the content is fine is I can play any of it directly from my iMac to the Apple TV using the normal menu system, this only happens when I try playing the content through the Remote app.
Naturally I can get away with using the Apple TV but I want to find out the problem cause it is much easier to navigate the Remote app than the ATV.
Running iTunes 10.7, latest and have the lastest iOS on my iPhone as well.
Any insight is very appreciated.
Thank you!

Same trouble here, iPad 2 with latest OS and remote app, iPod with latest OS and app.

  • HT202788 iPhone 4 cannot control Apple TV via remote App? this is bullying by Apple!!

Looks like I can't control latest Apple TV via the Remote App on an iPhone 4 running iOS 7 - why?... surely this has nothing to do with hardware capabilities and everything to do with Apple's bullying into forcing people to necessarily update their devices. I hope that I am missing something but it all worked fine and now ..!

The confusion between different passwords due to Mobile Me and iCloud plus the complexities of Home Sharing and the frustration of using an increasingly outdated iPhone4 with the sometimes challenging Remote App and a brand new iMAC have proved to be a lethal combination.
I resolved the issue by resetting the Apple TV and the Remote App, making sure I keep things simple by only using the iCloud account ... hope this keeps me out of trouble for a while.

  • Problems with Remote app on iphone and Mac connection

    Hi,
I am using iTunes 10.4.1, and am trying to use the remote app on my iphone to control my itunes with it. I was able to connect previously, before I upgraded to Lion OS, before upgrading to the latest versions of iTunes and my iPhone as well. But now, the connection is just dead.
I tried to re-add my iTunes onto my iphone again, but I couldn't find this box to check in my iTunes under Preferences > Devices -
"Look for iPod touch, iPhone and iPad Remotes"
    Someone please advice me?
    Thanks.

May I ask what wifi hardware you use? It might be an wifi issue, but one which is only related with the "Bonjour" protocol which seems to be used for the Remote App. I found this thread which is older (iOS 3) but describing exactly the same problems:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2048555&start=0&tstart=0
bear in mind that the iphone4 is now "n" wifi compatible (2.4Ghz), so could it be that the "n" part of your network is poor and thus why you only see the problem on the iphone4 ?
At least it is not poor when using it from other devices or moving a lot of data in other Apps. It is all Apple Hardware (nothing older than 2 years), and maybe that's the problem. I never had network hardware which made so much trouble, as Apples Airport series. I wouldn't wonder if it is an incompatibility between a new wifi chip in the iPhone 4 and a older Revision of an Airport device. But I don't know how to check - is there a system.log on the iPhone which I can access somehow?

  • Trouble-shooting no sound through the right side of Apple earphones with remote...

Hope this story of trouble-shooting this problem helps someone in the future.
For some strange reason, when I listened to a podcast using the Music app through the Apple earphones with remote on my iPhone 4, the right side has no sound.  However, when I pull the earphone plug out one notch, I get sound from both sides, but the remote controls no longer work.  At that point, I was sure I had a hardware problem, but where it lay-- earphones or iPhone 4, I didn't know.
    1.  For my first step, I tried the earphones with another iPhone 4, and got the exact same results.  That convinced me that it was a problem with the earphones, but then I tried them on our iPad and they worked fine!
    2.  That ruled out the earphones and got me wondering if both iPhone 4's earphone jacks were flakey or misbehaving.  I had read about the old fuzz in the jack problem, so I used an air blower to clean it out, but it made no difference.  I still figured that maybe both jacks were stressed in some way, although two of them?
    3.  Then I read that some people found different apps worked--and even specifically that running Skype could solve things.  That didn't work.  However, it led me to try various streaming apps (e.g., Portal to the Universe, NPR) and everything was fine-- sound from both sides and remote controls fully functional.
At that point, I was convinced there was something odd going on with the Music app.
    4.  Finally, it occurred to me to try other podcasts-- and even other episodes of the particular podcast.  They all worked fine.
So, it ended up being one particular podcast-- and, while I still do not know why, it means that the earphones, the headphone jack, the iPhones are all in fine shape!  Yay!
In any event, the bottom-line is that it's really smart to consider *all* the variables that could be affecting the situation--especially the most obvious ones that you wouldn't even think about it.  As it turned out, in my case, I had tested the very same podcast on both iPhones, so no wonder I got the very same results!

I think you're right-- however, I always thought that mono recordings played through both ears--always worked that way on my old stereo system!
This podcast does that, too, but only if one pulls the plug out a bit!  That's what's confusing to me.  Why does it change from both ears to only one ear depending on far the plug is pushed in?  (And especially as it behaves opposite what one would expect-- both ears when not plugged in all the way-- only 1 when fully embedded!)

I have lost the original remote for my Apple TV. I went to install it at my fiancés house, and cannot use the remote app on my ipad or iPhone. Can I still control the Apple TV with the apps?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Your Apple TV may have become paired with another remote. Hold the remote close to and pointed at the Apple TV, hold down the menu and Rewind buttons together for 6 seconds or until you see a broken chain icon on screen.

  • HT1947 Cant update my Apple TV (2nd Gen) with Remote app?

I have been using the Remote app on my iPhone 4 top successfully control my Apple TV (2nd gen) for a while now after my Apple TV remote dropped in the toilet and stopped working! Now my Apple TV needs to update (Update Now/Update Later) and when I try to connect the Remote app to the Apple TV the Remote app just spins continuously and never finds the Apple TV, therefor not allowing me to select "Update Now". What to do? Do I now need to buy an Apple Remote? Hoping I dont have to.

Hi and thanks for your suggestion. Unfortunately this didn't solve the issue. I tried almost everything now:
    - I rebooted the WIFI rooter
    - I resettled the apple TV
    - I removed the cables of apple tv for a minute (I have a switch anyway to cut power off completely)
    - I killed the remote app on the iPhone and iPad a few times
    - I removed my account settings both on the i-devices and apple tv for home sharing a few times and activated them again
All of the devices are in the same wifi network and every device can connect perfectly to the internet.
The screen on the iPhone/iPad always just shows that I should activate home sharing on iTunes on the computer or on the apple tv with my account (what I did as mentioned above)
Any ideas, someone from Apple maybe?
    Any ideas appreciated!

  • Can't control with remote, but can with Remote app!

Turned on my Apple TV today after work. As often happens, Netflix was "unavailable".
I usually fix this by unplugging my Apple TV, letting it sit, and plugging back in.
This time, after rebooting, the IR remote would not control the menu system. The white light on the Apple TV flashes as I press the buttons.
I tried 3 different remotes; same thing.
Did the reset procedure detailed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3180
Unplugged it for 30, still not responding to the remotes! UGH!
Funny thing: I CAN control it using the Remote app on my iPhone.
    Any ideas??

    See:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1555
If the unpair trick doesn;t work I'd suggest hooking up the AppleTV 2 to a computer running itunes using a microUSB cable alone and reverting it to factory state with current software.

Using ipad with remote app, I cannot change to watching a movie from listening to music through Apple TV without resetting the procedure. It only changes the song

it might be worth checking your TV settings to see if it has an option for different settings based on whether using the tv speakers or headphones.
Normally you should be able to control the sound via the tv.
Have you tried it without the headphones?

Accidental damage is not covered under the warranty but if possible to reset the screen without causing additional damage, the Apple Store should do this without charging for it.

  • Problems with Remote App on iOS 4?

I have a new iPhone 4 and tried to use the Remote App in Connection with Apple TV. While I'am able to pair the remote app with Apple TV, I cannot use it properly. It works for a while, then it get's disconnected with a message that maybe a Firewall might be activated in the Router.
I have no problems with Remote App connected to my iTunes Library. I also tried it with a iPod Touch which is still on iOS 3.1.3, no problems to connect to the Apple TV from there as well.
Are there any known problems with iOS 4 and Apple TV?

  • How does the Apple Headphones with Remote Replacement Program non-return fee work?

I have a pair of Apple In-Ear Headphones with Remote and Mic that I purchased a year ago. According to the "Apple Headphones with Remote Replacement Program", http://www.apple.com/support/headphones/replacementprogram/, these headphones are also covered in the program. Currently, there are some issues with my headphone's remote, as it is extremely unresponsive. I don't know how Apple determines the headphone's purchase date, but their online service request page accepts my iPhone's serial number. Is there any way that i could ensure that Apple's willing to replace the headphones for free (E.g. mailing my current ones in first) because the non-return fee is basically its retail price. I do not live in the US so I can't go and exchange at an Apple Retail Store. Thanks in advance.

I would just bring them into your local Apple Store/Genius Bar and ask.

  • Using Apple Earphones with Remote and Mic on my Macbook

Is it possible to use the remote to control volume on my macbook? I know the mic works but I can't get the remote to. Is it even possible to use the remote?

I have a unibody Macbook with OSX 10.6.1 and it works with my Apple Earphones with Remote and Mic. However, whenever I plug them in to the Macbook it takes up to 10 seconds for the volume and tracking controls to start working on the earphone remote. Also, if there is music playing in iTunes, the audio drops out for about the same amount of time. The hardware buttons on the Macbook also stop functioning during this time. The same behavior occurs when unplugging the earphones.
Basically, it seems like the Macbook is extremely slow when adding / removing the earphones as an audio control device.
Has anyone else noticed anything like this? Thanks!

  • Can i create an apple account with an app store card, or do i Need an itunes card?

Can i create an apple account with an app store card, or do i Need an itunes card?

    You need an iTunes card.
You can setup an account without a credit card if that helps.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2534
I found this in the iTunes help menu.
Redeem an iTunes allowance, gift certificate, or Gift Card
If you received an iTunes Store allowance, gift certificate, iTunes Gift Card, or promotional code, you can use it to buy songs, videos, or audiobooks from the iTunes Store.
You need to set up an Apple ID for use with the iTunes Store before you can redeem anything in the iTunes Store. You don’t need to enter credit card information to redeem only the amount of a gift certificate or card.
Before redeeming anything, make sure you are signed into the iTunes Store (choose Store > Sign In, or select Sign In from the navigation bar at the top of the iTunes Store window):
I don't see any mention of App Store cards.
