Controlling brushless maxon DC motors using NI6229 PCI card

Dear All,
I have the EPOS 24/5 controller and PCI 6229. How could I control the motor to move in Labview 8.50? Is there any vi example?
Do I have to buy CAN as the interface of PCI card adn EPOS controller?
cheers

Hi Michael,
Thanks for your time to reply on my message.
Below is my only HW available.
1.ordinay dc fan(ex. exhaust fan of PC with two terminals only,(+)and(-)
2.parallel port interface
3.pci-6503
With I would like to seek your help on how to measure the speed of an ordinary DC fan using the above resources.
if I will be using parallel port\pci-6503 what will be the possible connection between the fan and parallel port?
can you give me sample VI program.
Your help is very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  • Controlling Brushless maxon DC motrs using NI 6221 PCI Daq card

    Hi ,
I have a NI 6221 PCI Daq (M Series) card. I need to know how to use it to control a brushless DC motor from maxon with digital encoder? Also I need to know how to access the daq from matlab 7.0 as i am not familiar with labview and i need to know where i can get the matlab drivers for the card. Also i am trying to learn labview in the course of time. So it would be great if someone can give me some good tutorials in labview for motor control.
    Thanks

The lowest cost servo control option from NI is the PCI-7342 board which allows you to control two servo motors.
Please have a look at the datasheet for a detailed description.
Both, the 6221 and the 7342 provide synchronisation capabilities through the internal RTSI-Bus interface. This makes it easy to correlate e. g. analog values and motor positions.
As the 7342 doesn't provide power you will need to connect the board to an external drive.

  • I am using DNET PCI card from other vendor and using Labview 2013

i am using DNET PCI card from other vendor and using Labview 2013.
is it possible to communicate with this DNET card?
if so how do i find communication visa DNET ?
please inform me how to find DNET examples.
    thanks,

    Hi santh,
I don't think it's possible to use a 3rd party DNET PCI with LV API.

  • CPU-Usage during control of a DC Motor with the PCI-7344 board?

    Hello!
I want do control a DC-motor (no stepper motor). Now i´m using the PCI-6527 board and simulating the delay between "high" and "low" on the Simulate-signal-vi. This works fine while no other process on the PC is running. The CPU-usage rises up to 100%. Is it possible to use the PCI-7344 board for controlling my DC-motor and having enough CPU resources to do other things like capturing pictures with a cam at the same time? The CPU is a Pentium 3 1Ghz.

The PCI-7344 is a perfect solution for your problem. This board is designed for motion control applications and it's running everything on its own DSP and CPU:
Trajectory Generation, PID control, limit switch monitoring and so on.
Thus the PC's CPU is free for other tasks. Please note that you need a position feedback signal from a quadrature encoder.

  • How to simutaneously use 2 PCI cards, one with traditional DAQ, the other with DAQmx?

    Hi,
I am currently trying to debug a system that used to work.. but sadly isnt anymore
A single computer contains 2 PCI cards (6110 & 6036E). The 6110 card is controlled by a fairly old software, programmed in labview, and hence, using Traditional NI-DAQ. The 6036e card is controlled by a more recent soft, programmed in LV as well but using DAQmx.
the AI/AO of the 6110 card is only momentarily used (20 sec consecutively, every minute) while the 6036E card is continuously receiving and sending data on its AI/AO.
Now the problem: the program that control the 6036E card freezes every time that the old prog access the 6110 card.. and then it works again perfectly until the next time that the 6110 card is used.
So my question: how can I make those 2 cards work simultaneously?
I dont think that it is because of the software nor because of the computer lack of memory/CPU if it used to work in the past. It might be about a wrong configuration of cards in the MAX but I couldnt find anything wrong there (no problem when accessing AI/AO of both cards through "test panel")
Thank you very much for you help.

That's what bugs me. The only thing that those 2 cards share is an AO of the 6110 connected to an AI of the 6036.
For the rest, nothing is common. The 1st program only deal with device1, while the 2nd prog only access dev2. There shouldnt be any problem and everything is working fine separately. Hence, why I was wondering if the traditional daq and daqmx might conflict on a same computer.
I just cant find out why the 2nd program controling the daqmx card just freeze everytime the 1st program access the traditional card. It actually doesnt freeze completly but becomes soooo slow, with about only 2 iterations of the main while loop during those 15-20 sec (instead of the normal 3-4000 iterations during such a period).
The computer specs are a 2.2ghz proc for 1G of ram and running XP, so it should be ok.. even though the computer does slow a bit down when the 1st prog access the traditional card.

  • Using a PCI card INTERNAL USB port

Hello to anyone reading this !
I've just installed a PCI card in my G5 in order to add more USB ports. When I started searching for one, i was surprised to see most had an internal port, I couldn't really see the use of that. A friend told me it can be used on PCs to plug an extension towards a free port in front of the main unit.
Considering i can't do this on my G5, I was wondering how to take advantage of this internal port and I'd like to know if I can plug my USB Bluetooth adapter, as it doens't need to be visible and it would free one of my external ports. The question is, are there some security restrictions regarding what you put INSIDE the unit? Isn't it too hot inside to leave the bluetooth key or anything else that is not designed to be inside?
    Does anyone have any advice?
    Thanks in advance
    iVince

With all the airflow in a G5, I don't think heat will be a problem, but a Bluetooth unit probably will not be useful inside a shielded metal case. The Apple Bluetooth card connects to an antenna wire that goes outside the shielded section, but I don't think there is any way to connect that wire to the USB Bluetooth module.

  • (solved) get X to use my PCI card instead of onboard graphics.

I'm trying to install arch on an old P4 dell (dimension 2350) and given the specific requirements and restrictions of this given beast I'm having a bit of trouble getting X configured.  (I'm turning it into a replacement for my modded xbox running xbmc, yes, I know it won't play hi-def)
    Here's the setup:
    - It has onboard graphics (intel) which I don't plan on using since it only has vga out.
    - I've installed my video card (ATI radeon 9250 - hey it's the best standard pci card I could find)
    Here's the problem:
    - Everything works with the onboard intel chip
    - If I try to plug my monitor in to the ATI card it (the monitor) dims and doesn't register as being attached.\
    - I've tried turning off the onboard graphics in my bios but the only options are "onboard" and "auto" so it's currently set to auto.
    More fun:
    - The fun part is that I plan on using the ATI card's svideo out to my tv once it's set up, I'm just trying to get the monitor to work while I configure everything.
I'm considering trying to run an ubuntu live disc and seeing if I can copy over the xorg.conf file that gets generated.
    Any ideas?
    **edit
After some searching I've got it working.  Apparently linux still reads onboard cards with this pc/bios because of the piss poor bios.
i added 'blacklist agpgart' & 'blacklist intel_agp' (without quotes) to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist, set video to 'auto' in the bios, plugged the monitor into my card and rebooted.
    sweet.

  • Has anyone had success using NI PCI cards at -20C? My specific needs are for RS-422/482 and GPIB cards.

NI cards have been qualified to operate only to zero degrees C. I need serial abd GPIB PCI cards that operate to -20C for military application. Has anyone had success using these cards at this lower operating temperature?

    Hi,
I am not sure if this helps, but the ENET-232 is spec'd to operation at -40 degrees C.

  • USING A PCI CARD TO RUN A 320GIG ATA/IDE HD IN A QUICKSILVER G4

I didn't realise that my model did not support HD's over 120gb. After much reading I found out that I would need a PCI ata 133 card. On checking on ebay it was confusing as to which one. What do I specifically need? There is a range in prices also for similar units. I would rather pay more for quality? Are all PCI cards compatible for macs and PCs?

Hello! No not all cards will work in Macs and many are not bootable. Sonnet's pci cards are bootable and many like OWC's cards. Personally I like Sonnet's SATA card since many new drives are the newer technology. You could put the drive in an external firewire enclosure that would also be bootable. HERE's the Sonnet ide/ata133 card which will do what you want and HERE's a good enclosure should you decide to go that route. tom

  • Control of maxon dc motor

Hello everybody, I am new here and I am new with Labview. My project is a single link manipulator attached to a DC motor with epos2 50/5 controller connected to pc using usb. The goal of my study is to develop a control strategy to make the outputposition (angle) of the motor to follow a reference position (angle) using labview.
    There are many problems:
what is the connection between epos2 studio and labview
how can l start to develop my own controller
l used example data recording.vi from epos library and l found that the position waveform graph display only for 100 ms .
If any of you all can help me it will be greatly appreciated. Thanks ahead.

  • Controling four bipolar stepper motors using one DAQ

    hi all
l've just started using  labview an i am looking to contorl Four bipolar motor  for a spine robot though four stepper motor driver using a NI USB-6211  DAQ each motor will be independent so i am wondering can this this be done with one Daq since there is only two counter outputs on the digtal and the same on the analog.the speed of the motor does not matter as they will be push and pull.

    Hi polarmess,
Welcome to the NI Discussion Forums and LabVIEW. The USB-6211 has (among other functions) 4 digital outputs and 2 counters. If the digital outputs are not sufficient for your application (e.g. not quick enough) and you also want to control each of the 4 motors individually, then then USB-6211 would not be suitable for this application.
The NI sales team are always available to provide advise on hardware for specific applications, and I encourage you to call in to your local NI branch to discuss what the most appropriate hardware would be to control your robot. Our contact details are available via the contact link on ni.com.

  • To drive Unipolar Stepper Motors using MID drive

Hello friends I have purchased a RS components MID drive and I want to control a unipolar stepper motor using the same. The stepper motor is having 6 wires. I have used the same drive to run a bipolar stepper motor but I need to know as to how I can wire a unipolar motor to the same.I would like to know the connections and the disadvantages if any in driving a unipolar stepper motor using the MID drive.

You can drive unipolar motors with the 7602/7604, but you wire them as if they were bi-polar. The user manual (which can be downloaded from the NI web site for free) shows the way to wire the 4-phase motor as a two phase motor on page 26. The basic idea is that you either ignore the center tap - wire Phase A to Phase A, and Phase A' to Phase A', or ignore one of the phases by attaching Phase A to Phase A, and Phase A' to the center tap.
    Hope this helps-

  • USB 2.0 on PCI card no longer supported?

Curious as to whether anyone else has experienced the same problem I had trying to update via a USB 2.0 port on a PCI card. I just updated to 1.1.1 yesterday, and while connected to a USB 2.0 port on my PCI card (my old Mac never had built-in 2.0 ports), all **** broke loose after the download was complete and ready to be installed. I've never had problems syncing via the PCI card's USB 2.0 port up to now, but during the "preparing iPhone for . . ." process, my iPhone would not respond to the installer, resulting in an error message. After repeated attempts, I switched over to a built-in USB 1.1 port and then had to do a complete restore (which took several hours), but was successful. Oddly though, after the restore, if I try to use the USB 2.0 port on the PCI card again to sync, I get an error message saying that the contents of the iPhone cannot be read, and that I'll have to restore again (even though the phone is fully functional). If I switch back to the built-in USB 1.1 port, everything is fine and I'm not asked to restore the phone. Looks like I can no longer use my USB 2.0 ports (on the PCI card), which worked fine prior to 1.1.1. I know that my weeks/months are numbered with this older Mac (doesn't appear that Leopard will be supported on this Mac), but I just wasn't planning to purchase a new Mac just yet. Perhaps Apple is now checking for "built-in" USB 2.0 during these updates and not supporting USB 2.0 via a PCI card? Would sort of make sense, given the number of users who continue to have problems just trying to get iTunes to recognize their phone (i.e., eliminate the 3rd-party PCI cards). I doubt I'll attempt another update to my iPhone with this Mac. Let me know if you've had a similar experience using a PCI card rather than "built-in" USB ports. Thanks.

Thanks everyone for the great info!
I had an issue with my wife's Powermac G4 Sawtooth and went out and got a Belkin USB 2.0 PCI card to replace the less compatible usb 2.0 pci card. It looks a card with the NEC chipset definitely does the trick.
Her iPhone now syncs pretty much perfectly on the Belkin card. Yaaay!
Of course, it doesn't help that there is another syncing issue going on right now, which kind of threw me:

    But that's temporary. Thanks again!

  • NI4461 PCI card- DAC output abnormality

    Hello,
I am using NI4461 PCI Card for a frequency response analyser application. Otherthan that I am having a specific profile waveform to be generated using a DAC card.I tried to use NI4461 card for this. But for DC output function calls , I am getting a glitch before the waveform gets stabilized to the DC output value. The same observation was repeated when the card was tested through Measurement and Automation. Is this due to any limitation in the card? Can this card be used for general DAC applications ?
    Regards,
    Anandu
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Did the 'glitch' look like this?:
The 4461 is a dynamic signal acquisition device with all of the anti-imaging and anti-aliasing features that this designation entails. The acquired signal above is expected behavior because the onboard filters attenuate signal components with frequencies greater than 0.4*Fs. If you are seeing something different, post a screenshot and some code so the community can help more.
Generally, dynamic signal acquisition devices are designed to generate and acquire dynamic signals such as those found in sound and vibration applications. Use M-Series and X-Series devices to get the best performance value for DC applications.
