Controlling Column Widths in DWcs5
Hi everyone, I might be being a bit thick, but I have a simple grid in a page 980 wide (all measurements are in pixels). It is just 5 columns of …
40, 130, - -, 130 and 40, the column in the middle should be 640 but for some reason it is not letting me enter a width value for the middle column.
It is reading like this along the bottom in DW 40 (58) 130 (188) - 130 (188) 40 (58) and 980 across the whole width. Why is this? Why can't I just enter the column widths which equal 980 and have the grid, 40, 130, 640, 130, and 40?
thanks for your help
Gareth

What's not letting you enter a width value?
Are these table cells or <divs> youre working with?
Do you have padding added to the colums as the number in the (bracket) takes this into account.

How to controll column width in report ?
Dear All,
i have created Classic Report but here Column width is too large.
i want to controll column width in report .
How can i do this..
ThanksHi Vedant,
There are two possibilities in your case.
1.width of your column heading is too large.
include break in your column heading
for ex .. column heading is employee department number then write it as *[Employee(br)Department(br)Number]* // replace ( with < and ) with > in br
2) Value is too large
Go to Report Attributes->edit your column->column formatting->css style
In CSS style put this display:block;width:100px;white-space:wrap
Hope this will helps you,
Thanks,

How to control column width in table?
I have a table with four columns, and they are all with same width.
But I want to make one of them wider.
How should I do?
public void loadTable(){
Vector infoList = myObj.getInfoList();
Info info;
DefaultTableModel dtm = (DefaultTableModel)myPanel.tblList.getModel();
String[] columnNames = {
"wider column",
"Column B",
"Column C",
"Column D"};
dtm.setColumnIdentifiers(columnNames);
for(int i=0;i< infoList.size();i++){
// add stuff to "data"
dtm.addRow(data);
myPanel.tblList.setModel(dtm);
myPanel.tblList.getColumnModel().getColumn(1).setWidth(100);
I also tried setPreferedWidth(), not working for me either.
What should I do?
Thank youTry setting all the column widths. Define values for normal and width columns:
DefaultTableColumnModel tcModel = (DefaultTableColumnModel) myTable.getColumnModel();
Enumeration columnEnum = tcModel.getColumns();
while (columnEnum.hasMoreElements()) {
TableColumn column = (TableColumn) columnEnum.nextElement();
if (column.getModelIndex() != 1) {
column.setPreferredWidth(narrowWidth);
} else {
column.setPreferredWidth(wideWidth);

How to control column width in manual posting ?
Hi gurus,
I have some manual posting tasks with associated document types. In some of them when you get into the screen to record the manual data, the columns titles are so wide that the rigthmost columns get out of the screen and one needs to scroll horizontally.
Is there some way in wich I can fix columns width? I think if I narrow manually the columns and then fix this layout?
Thank you.Hi,
I beleive you work in the language other than English. I encounter this very annoying system's behaviour while working in Russian.
I know that some notes are dedicated to solving of this or that problem in particular language.
The easiest way to make some "stubborn" settings is to do it in English and the return to your locale.

Controlling Column Width in Report Region
I have a report region based on a simple select statement. I'd like the table to be the full width of the region and I'd like the columns to be spaced evenly so that they are also the full width of the region. I have figured out how to set the table width via Report Attributes Substitution, but I am unable to set the column width. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

How to set initial column widths for a table
What I'd like to do is to control the initial column widths for a table.
I'm building the table by using a class which extends AbstractTableModel. This class takes care of setting the headers and reading the data for the table.
If I do the following:
VarTableModel vtm = new VarTableModel(vi);
JTable jt = new JTable(vtm);
JScrollPane jsp = new JScrollPane(jt);
frame.getContentPane().add(jsp);
frame.setVisible(true);
I will see a table in my window. The widths of the columns are equal and are a function of the horizontal dimension of the window.
I have tried to set the width of a column by doing the following:
TableColumn aColumn;
aColumn = jt.getColumn(vtm.getColumnName(0));
aColumn.setWidth(40);
But this has no effect on what gets displayed. I can force the widths that I want by using 'setMaxWidth' but this has the unfortunate side effect of not allowing the user to make the column wider if they want.
What I'd like is a way to specify the widths of the columns when initially displayed and then let the user adjust to their liking.
I'm sure that there is a way to do this, but I don't seem to understand where to intervene in the process to produce the effect that I want.
Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated!Table.setAutoResizeMode(JTable.AUTO_RESIZE_OFF);
add this line and try ur codeThanks for the suggestion! Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to do the trick. Here is an abbreviated segment of my code:
vtm = new VarTableModel(vi);
JTable jt = new JTable(vtm);
// we want a horizontal scrollbar, so turn resizing off
// and we want to control column widths
jt.setAutoResizeMode(JTable.AUTO_RESIZE_OFF);
aColumn = jt.getColumn(vtm.getColumnName(0));
aColumn.setWidth(40);
. // same kind of thing for each column
aColumn = jt.getColumn(vtm.getColumnName(4));
aColumn.setWidth(400);
JScrollPane jsp = new JScrollPane(jt);
frame.getContentPane().add(jsp);
frame.setVisible(true);
If I do the above, the table gets displayed with each of the five columns the exact same width. So, the sizing of the columns is happening somewhere else despite turning auto resizing off.
Where is that occurring and how can I intervene so that I can control the widths of the columns on initial display and still allow the user to adjust the widths if they so choose? -
DataGrid column width is not set properly
Hi,
In the below example I has called the OptimizeDataGrid method on Button Click event to resize the Column according to the data. First time of the button click event it called the function whereas the Datagrid Column width alone is not set properly.whereas on second time it is working properly.
For Eg : In the below statement the text value is coming as 55 and widthPadding is comes as 25. but the sum of these two value is not in the dg.columns[col].width.
dg.columns[col].width = text + widthPadding;
But the same is working on the second time of the Button click event. is any help me out to resovle this issue. Thanks in Advance.

HarikumarWith horizontalScrollPolicy="off" (the default), it is hard to control
column widths because the columns are sometimes overridden to make sure they
fit on the screen. -
I understand that Mail controls column widths globally - a nuisance but a major issue - but why do the column widths keep changing after I set them. I appears that they are trying to accommodate a wide entry in a field or some such. Is there a way I can set the column widths and have them stay there!
oops - meant to say the columns are resizing after searches, and when I turn threading off, my column widths remain at what I set them.
I assume when your columns resize, you've just performed a search and returned to your inbox/folder? -

Hi,
I have a BPS layout with a largest value in a cell of one column. The amount is represented by ######### because the column is not open to show the value.
The formatting options "Controlling column width" is selected, if I deselect this option is worst.
The user cant fit the column width; the column is not protected.
The largest amount is generated by an excel formula.
What can I do?
Thanks
VictoriaOr <u>after</u> the Layout component in the web interface builder assign a text/html-component with html=true and following script, where you can hardcode the column width
<script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">

if (layout_sheet && layout_sheet.ActiveSheet) {

// CHANGE PARAMETERS

layout_sheet.Cells(100 ,100 ));

How to optimize the column width in Table Control
Hi all,
When I am displaying fields in Table Control, the columns are displayed in full length, and I am unable to see all the fields at once.
So as in grid , where we optimize the column width using layout, do we had any property for TC to do so.
thanks for your help.
Points would be awarded .
Regards,
Anil .Hi,
In Se51, you can do this one, ust open your table control and resize the TC, there is no direct option to do this for entire TC, you need to do this field by field, and arrage the TC to adjust in a Single screen. In the field parameters, you have the field lenghts, there you can minimize the length of a field

SSRS 2005 - Dynamically control the width of columns in Matrix report or Hide any column
Hi All,
I just want to hide some column without having white space in Matrix report in SSRS 2005. Although I am aware of that perhaps this feature is not available on SSRS 2005. So, I just want to know if we can handle the width of column dynamically(using expressions)
in matrix report?
Please help. Thanks in Advance.
Regards
KumudHi Kumud,
Based on my test, SSRS is not support column dynamically width. It has property “CanGrow” of text box. If we configure the property to True, it will wraps to next line if needed. In SSRS 2008, we can hide some columns without white space. If possible, I
recommend you update your SSRS 2005 to SSRS 2008.
There is a similar issue, you can refer to it.

How can I modify column width in a spreadsheet report without using an Excel template
I currently use the LabVIEW Report Generation toolkit in LabVIEW 2011SP1 to create simple spreadsheet reports that I can build/print without having Microsoft Office products installed. I really like being able to do this, and it allows me to generate nice on-demand data reports - I'm also not tied to having Office installed on the system I'm using, so this works on just about any test fixture I can install the software on.
I recently have a requirement that I must have variable-length columns in my report. I currently use the VI "Append Text Table to Report" in order to create a text table, but the column width requirement is that all columns must be equal width UNLESS I use an Excel Template file to define my column widths.
My questions are:
Is it possible to create a text table and define per-column widths without using an Excel Template? If so, how? My report mainly has a lot of small numerical values for the columns, but some columns contain system names or status messages - I really hate the longer text blocks wrapping and taking up so much real-estate when if I could control the column widths I can get all my data on a single line.
I'll admit I haven't tried this myself yet, but if I use an Excel Template will that require me to have Excel installed on the PC in order to print/generate reports?
Is there a recommended way (with an example) of generating a text table in a report with or without using the "Append Text Table to Report" VI that allows me to have custom column widths that doesn't require me to manually build a custom print page? If I do have to create a custom print page, what would be the most straightforward approach?
Thanks!
-DannySure, I'll provide a pared down example that demonstrates my use-case:
I have a control to the VI that takes in a 2D array of strings representing the data I want printed in a table. I am generating a standard report, adding a table to the report, and printing it. The first VI is "New Report.vi", the second VI is "Append Table to Report.vi", and the third is "Print Report.vi", all found standard in the Report Generation palette.
Note that the "Append Table to Report.vi" has an input parameter "Column Width" with a default value of (1). This input parameter is a single input parameter, which defines the column widths of ALL the columns in my table - hence, with the VI the way it is, all my columns will be 1 inch wide.
I find myself needing to be able to define per-column widths, not just a single global column width parameter.
The only way I have found to do this is by using an Excel template file. The "New Report.vi" takes in a "template" parameter, and if used, the report generation toolkit can be set to ignore the "Column Width" input parameter on the "Append Table to Report.vi" by setting the width value to -1. Instead it will launch Excel, open the template file provided, build the table using the template, will close Excel, and will attach the generated table to the report. However, I have a strict requirement that Microsoft Office NOT be required to be installed on the computer.
So, without using Excel, is there a way to generate a table in a report and define the width of each column individually?

MagnusThanks for your tip, but I did not do the trick exactly.
Can you get help for this in the User guide? I have read it thru without anything...
Anyway, I couldnt get it right with the Autofit to Window either, I need to set this for specific columns only, but when I do it on the first columns MS Word rearrange the whole table...
Do you use it on certain columns or the whole table?
I have to say, I have a quite complex template with several tables within other tables, and this maight mess things up...

Column width in finder LIST view
I am using Yosemite. This issue has been driving me mad for years and try as I may I cannot find the solution.
How do you set a default column width in Finder LIST view for all folders? Whatever I do (for example VIEW OPTIONS, USE AS DEFAULTS) does not work.
Can anybody help? I would use third party plugins if I could find something that controls this. Please note: I am using LIST view NOT column view.
Many thanksLike Jim, I also generally use Icon view for folders containing images, and have the View Option to show item info selected. Column view will also show image dimensions (both of these work, provided the folder has been indexed by Spotlight).
If you want to see the dimensions, but also want to view the folder contents in List view, the best you can do is bring up the Inspector (Command-Option-i), expand the More Info section, then move down the list using the arrow key. The Inspector pane's contents change with each new selected item, and the More Info section includes the dimensions.
