Controlling effects in Captivate 7

I want to have an effect that scales a background picture for the length of the slide. Although I have set the effect duration on the timeline to be the length of the slide - it does it's scaling in the first couple of seconds. I basically want to have a background image scaling very slowly, so it gives the impression of movement. (Need to output HTML5 if this makes any difference, but also doesn't work as SWF (although it work in the effects live preview.)
Any help would be appreciated.

Hello and welcome,
Could you switch to Effects workspace, and post a screenshot of both the Timeline and Effects panel?

    Does upating to Mavericks effect Adobe Captivate? I have Adobe Captivate 6. When I try to launch the app, I get a pop up that says "Adobe Captivate !" and it will not launch.
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi there,
    If you are using Captivate 6  on Mavericks (MAC OS 10.9), Captivate 6.0.2 patch has been released and can be downloaded from here:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/captivate/downloads.html
    P.S. : This patch is only applicable on Captivate 6.0.1.240 or 6.0.0.199

  • How to create a rollover button effect in Captivate 7?

    Hi,
    I recently upgraded from Captivate 6 to Captivate 7 and am curious to know how I can create a rollover state for a SmartShape button. Basically, let's say I have a SmartShape being used as a button. What I want is to have the button have a glow effect and a shadow effect each time the mouse is hovered over it. Is there an easier way than having two objects on the slide -- one as the normal state and one the mouse hoever image. What I'm thinking is that the mouse hovered state image will have it's 'Visible in Output' set as unchecked and I can use an Advanced Action to show the object on mouse hover. Perhaps I can have the mouse hovered state image as a rollover SmartShape too?
    Nonetheless, this looks like too much work. If I have 10 clickables on the page for which I want rollover effects, I would need to have 10 additional objects with their rollover states -- just seems like too much, but perhaps that's the Captivate way. Or I am I missing the obvious?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Sean

    Most people would say the easiest way to achieve what you are talking about would be to just create your own custom image button in a graphics editor and give the Over state image having the glow effect that you want.
    If you decide to go that route, this tutorial describes the process of creating an image button:
    http://www.infosemantics.com.au/adobe-captivate/create-custom-image-buttons
    Another possibility is that you can use the Infosemantics Event Handler widget to trigger an Apply Effect action and use the Glow filter as the effect.
    However, this may require some tweaking since it's not that easy to time effects that are applied via an advanced action.

  • "Flip-book"  like image effect in Captivate 5

    Hello all ! New to the forum and pretty new to captivate over here ! I just wondered if you could help me with something ! How to make a flip-book like image effect ? There is an example on slide 3 of this Captivate example : http://www.adobe.com/products/captivate/educators/include/softskills_training/modal.html?w idth=752&height=440    Any help would be great !  And.. why is it everytime I press Enter it it drops the whole paragraph instead of making a new line ?   Thanks !
    I noticed the link doesn't seem to work,http://www.adobe.com/uk/products/captivate/
    The presentation I mean is called "soft skills training"
    Any help would be  great !

    Hi Scott.
    As far as I know, that is not a function built into Cp5.  It looks like some kind of flash animation/widget built otuside Captivate and then imported.
    If someone else knows otherwise, please chime in.  Or if that widget can be downloaded somewhere, I'd love to take a look at it.

  • How does referencing a property of top-level control effect a sub-VI's timing?

    I've got a Graphic User Interface (GUI) with some buttons and text controls. First I bundle the references to these controls into a cluster and send it to a utility sub-VI where the cluster is saved in a switch register (the process called functional global). Then I have a 10 Hz loop in the GUI VI to monitor the controls locally. In a separate loop, I start a sub-VI that eventually leads to the utility sub-VI with the control references. When I use these references with the "Property | Value" it seems to effect the timing of the sub-VI.
    Currently I'm running the entire application using LabVIEW's default priority and execution system. It appears that when the sub-VI encounters the Property Node reference to an external control, the sub-VI loses its place at the head of the CPU queue, thus allowing other VI's to process.
    I'm considering assigning the utility sub-VI a higher priority and/or execution system but I'm not sure of the ramifications. I've read Application Note 114, "Using LabVIEW to Create Multithreaded VIs for Maximum Performance and Reliability", but it's dated July 2000 and does not seem to cover Property Nodes.
    Is there a connection between using Property Nodes for external controls and system timing or is my testing flawed?

    Property nodes and the VIs which use them all are forced to run in the User Interface execution system. This is what causes the change in your VI timing.
    To change the value of an indicator without "moving" the subVI to the UI execution system, try passing the data to the GUI VI by means of a queue. This should allow updates without waiting for the subVI to finish and without causing the slowdown. The Enqueue qnd Dequeue functiosn are quite fast so the added ovehead should have minimal effect on your timing.

  • Problems enabling editing of parameters for effects in Captivate 5

    Has anyone managed to successfully implement the instructions in:
    Creating custom effects in Adobe Flash
    To enable editing of parameters:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/captivate/cp/using/WSedb8e841cbc0b7966f3767e7127e259e115-8000. html
    I have tried and the values of the parameters are not read.  For example, I created my own version of Fly In From Bottom Right.xml to allow customization of the x value:
    <Motion duration="60" xmlns="fl.motion.*" xmlns:geom="flash.geom.*" xmlns:filters="flash.filters.*">
        <source>
            <Source frameRate="30" x="274.95" y="163.95" scaleX="1" scaleY="1" rotation="0" elementType="movie clip" symbolName="Text caption">
                <dimensions>
                    <geom:Rectangle left="-87.95" top="-32" width="175.95" height="64"/>
                </dimensions>
                <transformationPoint>
                    <geom:Point x="0.5" y="0.5"/>
                </transformationPoint>
            </Source>
        </source>
        <effect_config  effect_type="motion_path">
              <config_item>
            <effect_property type="number" propertyvalue="MY_X" defaultvalue="100"></effect_property>
              </config_item>
            </effect_config>
        <Keyframe index="0" tweenSnap="true" tweenSync="true" x="MY_X" y="600">
            <tweens>
                <SimpleEase ease="0"/>
            </tweens>
        </Keyframe>
        <Keyframe index="59" x="0" y="0"/>
    </Motion>
    This is successfully parsed but the value is not taken into account in the animation.  It seems to be set to 0, regardless of what I set it to in the XML and Captivate shows the property as editable but no matter what you enter it does not accept it and returns to 0.
    Any help with this would be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    David

    Good Day fellow forum users,
    I'm having the same problem with this that David has.  It doesn't matter what parameter I change the animation behaves exactly the same.
    I am attempting to have an image fly out left however, the image only partially 'leaves the screen'.  I have the effect tied to a button in an attempt to give my learners a way to change from one 'monitor screen' to another.  If I click the button twice the image will fully leave the screen.
    I would rather accomplish this effect with a single button press.
    I could just build this in Flash (and ultimately will do so) but if I can accomplish it within Cp that would be great.  The rest of my team isn't Flash savvy and I would like to have everyone able to edit the final product if necessary.
    Any suggestions are appreciated.

  • Can you loop effects in Captivate?

    Hello!
    I am trying to create the image of someone falling down a hole with the little speed lines trailing behind it.  I'd like to give it the image of falling for the entire time the user is on the slide.  Is there a way to loop effects to continue to cycle until the user leaves the slide.  I'm using Captivate 6.

  • Users controlling video in Captivate

    Hi guys,
    I need to include a video in captivate and from what I can
    see, it starts playing when I reach that particular slide. Will I
    be able to give users better control on the video, for example, a
    start/pause button, a replay button?
    thanks
    JT

    Good morning JT
    Assuming you are referring to a Flash Video here? If so,
    there are settings for Flash Video that offer a "Skin" (playback
    control). When you use a skin, normally the video is paused until
    your user clicks the Play button.
    If you are referring instead to a Full Motion clip, you could
    use a Button or Click Box object to pause the slide.
    Cheers... Rick

  • How Do You Control Effects?

    Hi,
    Just a quick question. I want to control my delay on a lead vocal track, basically riding the level of delay up and down depending on what section of song I am at. What is the best way to do this? Can I draw the effect level somewhere like you can with volume or is there a way to "print" the effect onto a track where you could control it with the fader?
    thank you, J

    Yes, with track-based automation, you can just draw the intensity in, which sounds like what you are looking for...
    On the "view" menu, choose to view the track automation for your vocal track. If the delay effect is already on that track, click the track's dropdown menu, choose the delay plugin, and then choose the aspect you want to automate - probably "mix."
    A line appears across the track, and you can create points on the line by clicking it. You can move these points up and down, and if you hold your click on a segment of a line between two points, you can move that segment vertically or horizontally.
    Hope this helps!

  • Novation SL Remote. Can it control effects plug-ins?

    Hi I have the Novation Remote SL. It automaps to instrument plugins but does nothing when i open an effects plug in. Does anyone know if its possible to automap to an effects plug-in? Thanks

    I distinctly remember an advertisement blurb quoting that automap works with logic instruments. I took this as meaning it didn't work for effects. Call me cynical!
    Also, as the control number for each effect parameter also depends on the slot the effect is in, you have a continually changing set of control numbers for each effect, depending on which slot it's in - so probably no way for Automap.

  • Exposure control effecting Lumiance

    Have others requested from Apple, that the Exposure slider effect lumiance only and not increase Saturation at the same time. Justs seems to me that exposure should be seperated from saturation especially since the Saturation slider is just below.
    I find that there are at times some colorful objects in the scene that do not need any satuation but could benefit from the exposure being moved up. I know the work arounds.
    Just thought Id ask to see if anyone else is bugged by this. Oh ACR 4.1 also does this so Apple is not alone. Just hoping that Apple will do it Right.

  • How can one use automatic panning effectively in captivate 8 ?

    I am trying to capture some screen sessions ina  software tool ( it is eclipse based, many out there will be familiar with eclipse) , and occasionally i would like to pan there  and zoom. there is an automatic setting in captivate 8, but i don;t see any examples of how to use it. i see that there are limits to what can be done automagocally, but adding everything afterwards is very time consuming.  i have added a discussion point from a related cap 7 discussion below. there should be awa y for a user to set the thresholds, so it works to suit the needs of the creator.
    thanks!

    Sivakumar Nagarajan Aug 21, 2013 9:37 AM (in response to aedoherty)
    Hi
    There have been some changes in the auto-panning behavior of Captivate across versions.
    The most note-worthy change being increase in the tolerance bounds beyond which auto-pan kicks in.
    In earlier versions, when the mouse moves beyond (approx) 1/4th the dimensions of the recording area away from the center of the recording area, auto-pan would get triggered.
    In recent versions, this tolerance limit has been increased to 1/2 of the dimensions of the recording area away from the center of the recording area. In other words, the mouse has to fall on the edges of or further away from the recording area. This has been done to reduce unwanted panning when mouse is well within the recording area.
    If this is unsuitable for you and you want the recording to involve a pan action when you move the mouse cursor to the menu item, you may reduce the height of the recordig area before you start recording. This way, when the mouse cursor reaches the menu item, it would fall outside the recording area and an auto-pan will get triggered.
    Please let us know if that worked
    Cheers

    Hi,

    In this case the example is for org based security. However, you just need to change it so that you are checking whichever column in the row holds the owner of the row against a session variable which is intialised to hold the id of the logged in user.

  • How do you fine tune an effect in Captivate 6

    I'm trying to scale and move a video using the effects timeline and I want it to wind up in an exact location on the stage. Is there any way to fine tune it by entering in exact coordinates rather than by bouncing back & forth between Live Preview and Edit View? I'm used to being able to entering in exact numbers when tweening an object in Flash and this seems like a pretty bad way of moving things around on the screen. Am I missing something here?
    Thanks

    As a temporary workaround, this is my work flow:
    I create a 'crosshair' in the exact location, using two line shapes that can be positioned exactly using the Transform accordion.
    The motion path end points have a circle that you'll have to drag over the crosshair. Motion paths use the center point of an object, contrary to resizing, moving that is from the upper left corner of the bounding box. I used the described work flow in the first movie here: http://blog.lilybiri.com/reset-effects

  • Controlling slide duration - Captivate 4

    I am coming from a Camtasia world - no I am not "converting"
    - I still love Camtasia, But I would like to become proficient
    building scored simulations. I inserted a number of Click boxes and
    text entry boxes in a simulation of an accounting software package,
    My slides seem to have a default duration of 7.8 seconds which I
    would like to shorten to "pick up the pace". However Captivate
    refuses to let me because of the other objects on the page that I
    also try to shorten, but they ssem to be Ok with a duration of 3
    seconds. What do I need to do or check to "pick up the
    pace".

    Hi Richard,
    I'm confused. Your slides "
    seem to have a default duration of 7.8 seconds", but ... "
    they seem (edited) to be Ok with a duration of 3 seconds". I
    guess you lost me at the turn.
    You cannot shorten the time-of-display for a slide to a time
    that is less than the longest duration of any object placed on it.
    So you will have to shorten the time of the objects on the slide
    (text boxes, highlights, or any other object listed on the
    time-line of that slide) before you can shorten the duration of the
    slide itself. Am I even close to your question? I know you have
    been "around the block", so am hoping you can forgive the
    simplicity of the answer ...
    The default time for the slides in your movie can be set in
    the "Preferences" dialog, which is located at the bottom of the
    EDIT menu, in either Captivate 3 or 4. Hope something in here is
    helpful. Have a nice day.

  • Controlling effects control panel

    In CC, at at early point in the timeline, the effects playhead goes offscreen in the effects panel, and no matter what I do, it won't come back into view, zooming in or out, changing to audio display units, playing with the "gray" bar at the bottom, making sure that the clip is at the beginning of the timeline, , etc.
    Help!

    I think I've got it. A nested multi-camera time line, with effects added to it --- each shift to a new camera loses the old effects.
    Thanks.
