Controlling image order in photo stream

I'd like to understand how iPhoto/iCloud controls the order of images in the Photo Stream.  And specifically why does it seem to automatically reorder my images.
Today I loaded of images into iPhoto from the last two weeks of travel.  The images came from several cameras with different file name sequences and clocks not all in sync.  I created an album with a few hundred and ordered them for continuity but not chronologically.  I then copied all the photos from the album to my Photo Stream, which was empty, and enabled streaming.  After a few minutes of sync, the images appeared on my iPhone, in my desired order.  Perfect.
Several hours later I noticed that the image order had changed on my iPhone.  I went back to my laptop and found that the image order in iPhoto's Photo Stream had also changed.  (I think something like this happened before with MobileMe and I was able to rearrange images using a browser to access the MobileMe Gallery directly no way to do this with iCloud.)  I'd like to fix the order so that I can give a slideshow.
I'm using iPhoto '11 version 9.3 on MacOS version 10.7.4.  I'm guessing this has something to do with file names or image chronology but a definitive answer would be appreciated.  Thanks.

It sounds as though you are using the "set date and time" option instead of the "batch change" option. The set date and time option does indeed add the same amount of time to each photo as you set in the options.
The batch change option allows you to set the time for the first photo in your selection and then add incremental periods of time according to your choosing to each supplemental photo.
Note; you must place all the photos in the order you want them and then select them all before applying the batch change option.

  • How to reorder images in Shared Photo Streams

I share several Photo Streams and when i add an image that is older it appears as the most recent not in the correct date order. Is there a way to correct this behaviour...... I undersand the principles of a Photo Stream but i am trying to use the Shared Streams as an online gallery where i want to control the displayed order.
    Many thanks

    Seems a little conterproductive.....
A shared stream is meant to be a stream and not an on-line gallery. You are supposed to drop a photo into the stream every now and than to send to your friends and family, and they will send their photos back. Only, since it is the only way supported by Apple to keep an online album of photos in iCloud, we all want to use it differently from how it has been intended.
Send feedback to Apple with a feature request - hopefully the next version of shared streams will allow sorting of the items.

  • Set order of photo stream photos

is there ay way of setting the order of appearence of photos in photo stream or in camera folder.

No. The default is time/date order.
The easiest thing to do would be to look for a third party photos app that gives you more control.
Theoretically you can use a computer and file properties changer to make all the files the exact same time, and if they are then the photos app defaults to alphabetical order....but it's a bit tedious and if your photos folder is a constantly changing thing, likely more trouble than it's worth.

  • Getting images into iPhoto photo stream. how?

I've imported an image from my desktop to iPhoto. i try to drag it to photo stream from the last import or events windows but photo stream won't accept it. how do i get it in there?

I ended up doing a manual rebuild. There must have indeed been a file or folder corruption or something. I will rebuild the albums, and it looks like everything will be fine. Thanks.

  • Replacing image in shared photo stream

Is there a way to replace a photo in a shared photo stream and keep the original place in the stream? The only way I can find is to delete it and re-upload, but this will place the photo as the last photo in the stream.

  • How can I control the order of photos in a Ravel slideshow?

I'm using the web version.  After I uploaded my photos, I discovered that Ravel does not display them in alphanumeric file name order.  Instead it appears to order them by file date.  Unfortunately, I have always altered the file name to set up the order of my photos.  In the future, if I use PhotoShop to manually alter the date of the jpeg files, and then upload them, will Ravel "see" the altered date and change the order?  I've used up my upload limit, so I can't just try it and see.
On a slide note, I tried the method of sharing an album on PC as described in the Adobe FAQ, and it worked pretty well.  Two minor things I'd add:  (1) You have to first click the URL field before the copy, and (2) the URL includes two non-functional characters at the end (#!) that can be deleted from the e-mail.

Yes, as you noticed, the only option for Revel is to sort by date.  If you change the date that the photo was taken, it will indeed change the order.  This is something you can also do within the Revel app, though not currently with the web version you are using.

  • How Do I Control The Order of Photos Displayed by an Emitter

I have a Motion 4 particle emitter which is displaying a sequence of photographs and text (all transparent TIFs), which works exactly as required, except the customer has requested the photographs appear in a particular order. How can this be achieved?
I have tried changing the random seed to see if I could hit the sequence by chance, but no luck!

Great link Patrick, thanks for that! The solution as you suggested is animating the Source Start Frame, and the video make it clear. So the solution is as follows:
Set Random Start Frame and Play Frames off.
Animate the Source Start Frame by setting a keyframe at the start of the sequence with frame one, and then set a keyframe at the end with the number of the last image.
Result: Images which fall through space from the emitter and display in a known order. If the customer wants to change the order of the sequence, then rename the files and re attach to the emitter. Simples!

  • Controlling order of photos in slideshow

Apparently the Photos application that comes with the iPad doesn't let you determine the order of photos displayed in a slideshow. All of the posts on this topic involve changing the file name, which is not possible on the iPad as far as I know. Is there a workaround for this, or another application that will allow you to control the order of photos in a slideshow? (I can't believe this is an issue -- it seems like such a basic feature to me...)

You could try Photo Manager Pro from the store - it's not as restrictive as the built-in Photos app, and allows you to sort the photos within the app (reorder photos)

  • Aperture and Photo Stream duplicates

I'm hardly an expert with Aperture, but I've been dismayed to see that once I've edited a photo in Aperture, Photo Stream picks up both the edited version AND the original master. Given that once I've edited the master it's no longer showing in Aperture itself, I don't know how to resolve this behavior. Even photos I've trashed (and emptied) show up in Photo Stream, both the original and any edited version that I likewise trashed.
Does this have anything to do with "stacks?" Few of my photos are in stacks, unless I just don't realize that.
Oh. Aperture manages all my photos. I don't have them referenced from any other location, just in case that helps to know.
Anyway, any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!
    Laura

    Hello Laura,
I'm afraid, there is nothing you can do about it. There is no way to delete an image from the Photo Stream other than wait for it to disappear on its own after 30 days.
If you have set Aperture to "automatic upload" to Photo Stream, your master images will be added to the stream, as soon as you import them, and they will stay until they are replaced by other images. And if you edit the image, then the edited version will appear in the Photo Stream too.
If you want to have at least some control over the contents of your Photo Stream, do not enable automatic upload and download. Otherwise the stream will be filled with images that you discarded shortly after import to Aperture, because you did not like them.

  • Managing Photos from multiple sources to iPhoto '11 Photo Stream on Mac.

I combined photos from multiple sources (camera, desktop, iPhone) to iPhoto '11 on Mac.  I determined keeper photos and put them in Event.  I also rated and flagged the keeper photos.  I want to delete the rest of photos from Photo Stream but can't see rating/flag so I can't determine which ones to delete.
This is basic file management but not finding a solution.  Suggestions?

The Photo Stream is designed to push your images into the cloud the moment they are taken. It does not (yet) support to show the ratings and most of the tags.
If you have an event with all photos you want to keep, the easiest way would be to delete all photos from the Photo Stream (on all your IOS devices) and then add only your selected "keeper" images to the Photo Stream again.

    Léonie
Added: It is not safe to rely on the Photo Stream for storage, since it will only keep a snapshot of currently added photos - the last month's photos or the last 1000 photos. You have have no control over the sorting of photos in the stream or how long they will be kept. The Photo Stream is a means of sharing, not of storing images. I prefer to use "Shared Photo Streams" for more permanent photo selections. These will show exactly the selection of images I add to them, and they are not automatically erased after a month.

  • My Photo Stream on iPad and Apple TV

I have 84 photos in My Photo Stream on my iMac and was previously able to get all of them in my screensaver on Apple TV.  After a recent upgrade I can only get 3 pictures on Apple TV.  On my iPad there are 18 pictures.  How can all of the pictures be synced to all of my devices?

    Hi Felicia G,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
The information below will explain how Photo Stream works.
Another way to organize photos is to make sure they are automatically added to your computer and use Home Sharing to see them on your Apple TV.
    iCloud: My Photo Stream FAQ
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4486
How many photos are stored in My Photo Stream on my devices and computers?
Your iOS devices keep a rolling collection of your last 1000 photos in the My Photo Stream album. From there, you can browse your recent photos or move the ones you like to your Camera Roll or another album to keep them on your device forever.
Because your Mac and PC have more storage than your iOS devices, you can choose to have all of your My Photo Stream photos automatically downloaded. In iPhoto or Aperture preferences on your Mac, select Photos (or Photo Stream) > My Photo Stream > Automatic Import. All of your photo stream photos will be imported into your Events, Projects, Photos, Faces, and Places folders in iPhoto or Aperture.
What happens to my photos if I turn off My Photo Stream?
If you sign out of iCloud or turn off My Photo Stream on an iOS device, all the images in My Photo Stream are removed from that device. The images in My Photo Stream on your other devices are not affected. Images added to My Photo Stream are saved on the iCloud server for 30 days from the date you added them to My Photo Stream. If you sign in to iCloud with the same Apple ID and turn on My Photo Stream on another device, those photos will automatically download to this device. Before turning off My Photo Stream, it's a good idea to save any photos that you'd like to keep to your Camera Roll. Learn more about saving your photos to your Camera Roll.
How do I view My Photo Stream?
Apple TV: After signing in with your iCloud account, you can view your photos by choosing iCloud Photos or Photo Stream from the main menu (or selecting Internet > Photo Stream in Apple TV Software Update 5.0).
iTunes 11 for Mac: Play items in your iTunes library using Apple TV (2nd generation or later)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12153?viewlocale=en_US
With Apple TV (2nd generation or later), you can stream content to your home theater system from your iTunes library, and the iTunes libraries of all the computers in your Home Sharing network. You can also stream digital photos stored on your computer.
Stream photos from your computer to Apple TV
Once Home Sharing is set up on your computer and on Apple TV, you can use iTunes to stream photos to your home theater system.
In iTunes, choose File > Home Sharing > Choose Photos to Share with Apple TV.
In the window that appears, select Share Photos From, and choose a source from the pop-up menu.
Choose “All photos, albums, events, and faces” or “Selected albums, events, and faces.”If you chose “Selected albums, events, and faces,” select the albums, events, and faces you want to stream.
    Click Apply.
    Hope this information helps ....

  • Why am I getting the wrong version of my photos in photo stream?

I am using iphoto '11 v. 9.2.1.   Basically I have gone around in circles but firstly should say I have reset photo stream in icloud.com and on all devices including my Mac.  I have iphoto on the Mac and have uploaded some photos from the camera from a recent trip.  This is all as I would normally do.  After a couple of edits I now have two versions of the photo in the event album - the edited and unedited both with the same name.  I am guessing this is like the old iphoto's two libraries??  Anyway that's not really the problem I don't think but when I drag the edited version of the image to my photo stream (I have automatic turned off at the moment) it is the unedited version that shows up there.
Am I missing something obvious here?  All I really want to do is use the photo stream to allow me to then save the images in a new folder on the ipad so I can bore some friends with our photos of the trip and of course I want to show them the beautiful edited versions not the unedited?
    Thanks

Hi - thanks for the reply.  I have tried your suggested test and it is the same
I also tried changing the name of the edited version and also deleted the original versions.  My event folder was just left with all the edited versions but still when I dragged them over the the photo stream it showed the unedited.
Stuck - I am assuming that if when I save the file after editing I save as and create a completely different version then this would overcome the issue - I'm just not sure I should have to do that??
    Thanks

  • Should i keep pictures in photo stream in aperture, or copy them in a different folder

I have photo stream turned on from ipad and iphone.  All pics taken from these devices will appear in photo stream on my Imac aperture.
If i delete some pictures on my iphone, will it delete them from my photosteam on my Imac? Will I lose those pictures?
If i want to keep them forever on my Imac (since the storage is much bigger than iphone), do i have to copy those pictures to a different project or can i let them into photo stream project?

You will see the images in the Photo Stream View - My Photo Straem only for a month at most; then they may be removed from the stream. You need to import them into Aperture into a project to keep them permanently; just drag them to a project of your choice.
If you have enabled "Automatic Import" for "My PhotoStream", the import will be done automatically on a monthly basis. Aperture will copy the PhotoStream images to projects named by month and year, like "Dez 2012 Photo Stream".

  • HT201317 how can i sequence photos in photo stream for a slideshow

How can i sequence photos which have been taken over a period of months and exported to photo stream in no order for a slide show which must have the photos ordered manually?
    thanks

You can't resequence the order in photo stream if that's what you are asking.  You say you've been taking photos over a period of months - I hope these are not just in photo stream, because photos stay in the stream for up to 30 days (and only a max of 1000 pictures).  You need to copy the photos [once they've been synced by the stream to a computer] to an album (on a mac) to folder (PC) were you can organize them any way you want.
Always sync photos to a computer (either by USB or iCloud) as you would with a digital camera.  Never trust them to iCloud alone - too many users have lost most/all their photos when performing restores or whatever.

  • How to delete photos from my Photo Stream?

I have read the article at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5125?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US  I have followed the steps to remove photos from iPhoto on my MacBook Pro.  That worked.  The same photos did not get deleted from my iPhone and for my iPad.
I then went to my iPad and deleted more images from my Photo Stream.  Worked.  Then went to my MacBook Pro and the photos were not gone!
    What to do???

you need to reset the Photo Stream - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4890
