Controlling my stereo with my Ipad

I have just purchased an Ipad (16 GB, no 3G) and would like to use it to control the music at home. I have a NAS server to hold all my music, my photos etc. and an airport express (borrowed), but my laptop is rather old/slow, so would rather not go through that. So my questions are:
Can I use my Ipad as controller (know I can use it as a remote, but then I need to go through the laptop)?
What cable do I need to connect my old stereo to the airport express?
Any other good ideas on how to set this up? Bluetooth?
Help!!!

Airport express just streams music from iTunes to stereos. There are a couple of remote control programs available for the iPad that can control your Mac or Apple TV, but they are not even close to the usefulness of the iPhone App for remote control.
iTunes works pretty well with even older Macs.
As for controlling your stereo, I don't think your iPad can control it, unless you have brand new equipment, some of which are Bluetooth compliant.
There are about 50 iPad apps that have some remote control feature, you should look through them, but it's really clear that you're asking the iPad to do something it can't.

  • Controlling LR 6 with an iPad or Trackpad?

    Hey Gang,
With LR 5, I was using an app called "The Touch" to control the sliders in Lightroom.  Before that, I was using RPG Keys.
With the release of LR 6, I have learned that "The Touch" is no longer a thing.
Help.  Are there any iPad apps or other apps that will allow me to use my iPad or Trackpad to control the sliders in LR?   I had a very fast workflow...and now...not so much.
    Thanks!

  • Controlling Logic Pro with an iPad

I am wanting to purchase Apple's Logi Pro, but I have a question that hopefully someone in the Apple community can help me with.
I do a lot of MIDI editing, so the actual time I REALLY need a music keyboard is well ... Not a lot.
Is there any way I can use my iPad mini as a Bluetooth MIDI keyboard controller and have Logic Pro on my Mac Retina laptop receive its signals ( it's MIDI data, velocity, etc.)?
I usually start my notes with MIDI Input then refine via  on screen with the mouse in the MIDI editor.
Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated!

  • Can you control a MacBook Air with an iPad?

First off I wasn't sure where to post this so sorry if this is in the wrong place.
I teach in a small rural high school that has decided to implement 1-to-1 technology this school year.  All students will be issued an iPad (3rd Gen), and all teachers have been issued an iPad (3rd Gen) along with a MacBook Air (I'm assuming it is whatever generation is currently new).
So here is my conundrum.  Our school does not provide all teachers with a projector to use for presentations and such.  This means that I have to lug around my personal projector if I will need it in class that day.  What I am trying to figure out is if there is a way to control my MacBook with my iPad, while the MacBook is connected to my projector?  Ultimately I would like to be able to walk around my room with my iPad in hand with access to my MacBook and projector set up to control presentations, show things from the internet, or whatever else comes up.
I am assuming there is some way to do this, but I really am not sure where to look since I am still fairly new with the iPad.  I've looked at apps like iTap VNC, but I am unsure if this is what I am looking for or if there is something else to consider.  Any expensive programs (over $20) or equipment is out of the question since I have to pay for it myself and will not be reimbursed.  I am unsure if this matters either, but the school is not providing us with any programs such as Keynote or other presentation programs.  I am currently using Open Office on my MacBook.
I should probably also add that I have seen questions about using the iPad with a MacBook Pro.  I was just unsure if similar solutions would work with this scenario.
Any helpful suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thank you.

You need a remote app. Look at Team Viewer and Splashtop Remote. Both apps will allow you to control the computer from the iPad. I use Team Viewer a little now and then and you do have to get the hang of the movements and such, but both of the apps are for remote access of your computer.

  • Can I use, and how can I use voice control with my iPad 2?

Is it possible to use the voice control with my iPad 2? If so, how can I use it? Since there is no siri for iPad yet, I'd like to use something similar to it and I've seen this built in voice control before but I was not sure if it's possible with the iPad.

Not yet, however you can download the new google app. This offers voice seeking on the net.

  • Nikon D4s/WT-5: controlling camera works with iPad but not with iPhone 5s

The iPad is too big to use in the planned project, the iPhone is small enough.
The iPad and iPhone both connect to the ad hoc net created by the D4s/WT-5.
With iPad I can view and control the camera using Safari browser, which shows the control window.
With iPhone I get the same window, but it is inactive, the buttons are dead, no live view either.
The Nikon Wireless Mobile Utility does not support then D4s.

  • Can I use a G3 with an iPad?

My mother-in-law has a iPad 2 that she is using with an old PC running Windows XP. We keep running into quirky issues with the PC and I was thinking of giving her my old PowerMac G3 because she wants to transfer audio files from CDs onto her iPad. Would that be possible?

Sorry, I don't see a way, You need at least 10.5.8 to use with the iPad, which no G3 can do...

I was playing with my ipad settings and noted in he advanced settings of Safari there was a place to view "website databases".  When I selected this I saw a multitude of websites.
Can anyone tell me how these get there?  Can a website be posted even if it was never went to?  What does the space amount mean?  For example, 1.5 kb...is this quite a bit?  Would it indicate someone has gone to a site multiple times?
I share my ipad with my teenage daughter and I'm trying to find out if she's lying to me.  Obviously she's swearing that she has "no idea" how these got there and I'm trying to keep her safe (she's only 14).
    Thanks everyone.
    Concerned Mom

Think of your PC and the 'temporary internet folder' where it keeps cached copies of web pages or elements off a web page for 'quicker display the next time you visit'. That's pretty much what that folder is. 1.5K is tiny. Probably just a basic page with some text on it. (you might be confusing 1.5K with 1.5 megabyte....megabyte is large...it's roughly 1000 kilobytes, so the 1.5K is a tiny file)
As far as I know, the only way info gets into that folder is if the browser has been to that site.
if you have a concern there are browsers out there, McGruff is one i've seen recommended, that allow some degree of parental control and supervision. That or you could passcode lock the iPad or enable the restrictions to turn off some parts of the device to have some control.

  • All my technology needs are now met with my iPad Air. Do I still need a computer for syncing etc?

All my technology needs are now met with my iPad Air. Do I still need a computer?

Only you can make that decision. If you say that all of your computer needs are met, then you have answered the question yourself.
I would never rely totally on iCloud for backups. I want more control than what Apple has to offer with iCloud and I don't want to have to pay for the storage that I need as the content on my iPad continues to grow. I realize that I had to buy the computer, as well, but I can backup my iPad to iTunes, backup my iTunes library with Time Machine and backup other files with another external drive that I have connected to my MacBook Pro.
I just don't trust all of my content being in the cloud or in Aplple's servers. Just a matter of choice.

  • TS3999 My Outlook Calender wont sync with iCloud/iPad/iPhone?

My Outlook Calender wont sync with iCloud/iPad/iPhone? despite doing everything as per the support page. I keep on clicking the Add in but it wont "take"?
It use to,  but no matter what I try nothing works. Using Windows 7. HELP!

    This step is not clear:
"Open a secure website to see if you can access ports 80 and 443. Outlook requires access to port 443 to push and fetch updates to and from the iCloud Contacts servers."
The link takes me to an Apple page but which has nothing to do with ports.  And there is nothing to explain what it is I am looking for, how to look for it, and how to change it if needed.
    Also, this step:
"Open the iCloud Control Panel and make sure that you're signed in to the same iCloud account that you're using on your other supported devices."
iCloud automatically set up a "[email protected]...." account for me so I see that one plus my original email used to open my Apple account.  And the apple products show my settings under both identities.
Make sure the iCloud Outlook Add-in is active within Outlook
This add-in is disabled because it doesn't allow Outlook to function properly.
    Thanks!
