Controlling podcast synching

I have iTunes set up to sync my Music via a playlist. (I.e., I have more songs in my Music Library than fit on my iPod, so I use a customized playlist to tell what I want on the iPod, and set my Preferences to sync from that playlist.)
My question is in regard to podcasts. I have podcasts in my iTunes Music Library, and I want to also control which of those are transferred to the iPod. My goal is to NEVER delete a podcast from my Music Library, and I have the Preferences set that way. But it seems that what's happening when I sync my iPod is that all podcasts are transferring to the iPod.
I'd like to treat podcasts like I'm treating my Music -- namely, to only include certain podcasts in my "transfer to iPod" playlist, so when I sync the iPod, only those podcasts will transfer over. In other words, I'd like to keep ALL podcasts on my computer (in iTunes), but add and remove podcasts from my iPod, under my control.
How can I do this? I do not currently show any podcasts in the playlist that I'm using to sync the iPod; yet it appears that every podcast is being transferred across. After I've listened to them, I want to remove them from the iPod (and, optionally, bring some new ones over), but KEEP THEM in the iTunes Music Library.
Can someone give me some help on this? Thanks.

  • Podcast synching

How do  I ensure that podcasts on mi iPad/iPhone will not be lost  when I synch with my computer?
The same items have not been downloaded to my several devices and podcast synch has not transferred various episodes to all my devices.
The podcasts are from a time limited source and cannot be downloaded again from the original source.
iTunes threatens that all information on a device will be REPLACED by information on a computer if one tries to synch/back-up using that computer.
It seems itunes does not merge podcast files.
Is this correct and is there a way to prevent podcast episodes being lost?

One thing I'm trying is to delete in itunes the first podcast it is stuck on (deleted not the episode, but the whole podcast).. perhaps it is corrupted.
So far this resulted in the sync finishing. I think I have found the solution.

  • Update PC formatted i Pod on mac? and podcast synching questions

I have my 30G iPod formatted for PC, b/c I use it as an external drive. iTunes 7.0.1 on my mac (my home base for synching music, games, podcasts, etc) says it can't update a PC formatted iPod.
I can't synch the game I bought, but that wouldn't be enough to make me try to update to 1.2 if I wasn't having problems with my podcasts synching. Most synch properly, some don't. I get the message that says my software is too old. I can't seem to manually drag the problem 'casts either. They are just regular podcasts, with no chapters or video.
    Any advice would be appreciated.
For example, can I download iTunes 7 to a windows machine and update my PC iPod over there? will it wipe all my music? I considered this, but it would be a pain to re-load everything. Would this help the problem?
    Thanks, jenn

just read a bunch of posts about how updating to 1.2 on a PC might kill my iPod, so I guess I won't even try to update anything for a while.
thanks for the warnings, and oh well on the missed podcasts I guess.
PS- I did try putting the "bad" podcasts into a playlist but that playlist won't copy back to the iPod.

  • Podcast synching on multiple macs with same account

How do I get my podcasts to synch on multiple macs and therefore ipods with same itunes authorized account, ie the subscriptions I have on home computer don't show up on my work itunes account and therefore when I'ved watched flying one way, when I land I want to load the next set of episodes, but find the need to create entirely new subscriptions?
    Thanks
    george

I was able to resolve the problem using addMessageCountListener and messagesAdded method, as suggested by you.
I am now facing another problem. Whenever a new message is received, code inside messagesAdded method gets executed. Here I am trying to spawn another thread and do some stuff. But this new thread is not starting at all. It goes into some JavaMail:EventQueue and does nothing. What is the concept of EventQueue here? How can I get this new thread executed?
Also will there be synchronization problems in messagesAdded method. Say I received a message and I am processing it in the messagesAdded method. In the mean time another message comes up. How will this behave.

  • Podcast synchs time out since I upgraded to 7.0.2

I have a 5th Gen IPOD Touch, and recently upgraded it and my ITUNES account to the latest software.  Since then, my podcasts won't synch, or if they do (some do, some don't, sometimes it just times out) they show an error message when I try to play them.  I have the Cloud turned on, and usually synch to 4 podcasts every day.   My PC is a Windows 7 Professional package with all updates current.

You can get the Filterstorm app. Use it to resize your pics to 2048 x 1536 (retina display resolution). It will then fit the screen without further adjustment.

  • Podcasts synching in reverse order

I use an iPod Touch w/iTunes on the Mac and despite how I sort my podcasts inside iTunes, they sync up from newest to oldest on my Touch.
I want them to sync up oldest to newest so I can listen in that order. Is there any way to do this??
    Thanks in advance.
    Michael

Place them in the order you want after you've deleted them?? I'm not following that!
If you go to the main heading for the podcast and hit the PLAY button (not the center button) the podcasts will play in chronological order. At least when I tried this last night it worked great.. It seemed like if you stop it jumps back to the oldest one again even though you may have finished it. A quick tap on the >>| and you will jump to where you were in the next one.
When someone told me about this, I kept hitting the middle button and it doesn't work there.

  • How to control podcast app account?

I want to log out and log back in to another apple ID for my podcast app on the iphone. How do I do that?

    Hello ther aapl.crox,
You can change the signed in Apple ID for the Podcasts app in iTunes and App stores in Settings on your phone:
    iTunes Store settings - iPhone
To set options for the iTunes Store, go to Settings > iTunes & App Store.
View or edit your account. Tap your Apple ID, then tap View Apple ID. To change your password, tap the Apple ID field.
Sign in with a different Apple ID. Tap your account name, then tap Sign Out. You can then enter a different Apple ID.
According to this article that is where the account info is determined for the Podcasts app:
Podcasts for iOS: Sync podcasts - Apple Support
An Apple ID. Sign in to the iTunes Store with the same Apple ID on all your devices.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Regards,
    Sterling

  • Controlling Podcast Subscriptions

I've noticed a major drop in speed when navigating the internet. I believe that it might be related to a number of podcasts I've subscribed to. Is there a way to tell how much bandwith is consumed by the downloads? Is there a way to limit podcast downloads to a speicific time? Much thanks for any guidance

The iTunes subscription gives the customer access to all folios in which the Publication Date falls within the time duration. If you publish a folio with a date that falls outside that duration (1-1-1982 or 1-1-2034), the customers aren't entitled to it.

  • Synching Podcasts On Two Macs??

I usually manage my iPod/iTunes manually but find "auto" podcast synching to be handy. However when I tried to sync on a second Mac it erased all my other podcasts. Is it possible to do this on muliple Macs? Thanks.

Brie Fly is right. You can't do a straight sync. Doing so will make sure each folder in each library has the same files but it can't sync the database files that tell iPhoto which photos are where. Each library will just appear the same and may eventually have problems with all those "unofficial" files in it's library. You can use the paid version of iPhoto Library Manager to merge photos from each library into the other. It would not be automatic in that you'd have to know which are new. You might use the "Last X rolls" feature to do that. But it will copy them and maintain the rolls, album, keyword and other metadata information. I've not used it but many users have reported successful merges with it.

  • HT3281 Podcasts NOT Synching with iPod!!!!!!!!!

I just spent 4 hours downloading 720 podcasts for a trip and I have tried all the suggestions for getting the Podcast app on my iPod to sync up with no success. Any suggestions????????  Yes I have the latest app....

My ipod is now operating on iOS 6.1.3 and I still cannot get the podcasts in iTunes to show up on my ipod.  This is beyond aggrevating!   I have selected that all podcasts synch in both iTunes and the ipod.

  • Podcasts filing to music on iPod mini

When I manually drag a downloaded podcast from the iTunes library to my iPod, the podcasts show up in the music selections rather than the Podcasts listing. Am I doing something wrong in dragging the podcasts.

Dragging them around is certainly an option, but you an also let iTunes automatically load podcasts into an iPod. When iTunes handles the job they show up in the iPod's podcast area.
Right-click the iPod entry in iTunes, and select iPod Options. Here you'll see a tab for controlling music synching and another for podcast synching. In the podcast tab, tell it how you want iTunes to load the iPod for you.

  • Problem with podcast feed on windows 7

    Hi
I have had the following podcast working in itunes for over 3 years.
However, a couple of months ago I moved to a new PC with windows 7 and now the downloads start, stop straight away and give a 404 error.  However, when I use my old XP pc or Vista laptop the downloads in itunes still work.

I have even copied the link against one of the podcasts in the itunes store and copied into a new browser.  When you then click play in the itunes browser version it plays.  So it is not an issue that the podcast does not exist and the server being down.

I would be grateful for any insight as it is very annoying.

I use Podcast Station to create the RSS file (this has not changed since 2008)
I have not changed any formats
    Thanks

Hhhmmmm! There is definitely a problem.
I've just tried the first link you gave, found the Podcast in iTunes Store and selected Free for the episode of 29th July (which should download the epsiode as a Podcast). Although it looked as though iTunes was downloading it, and gave no error message when it "finished", there is nothing downloaded. (Never seen a failed download but with no error message before!)
I even tried the episode from 8th July, but with the same result. In fact, in both cases, the progress bar went straight from "looking for the episode" to "done" in the iTunes Download section. I even attempted to watch the download in my file manager. The temporary folder is created but no content arrives and eventually the temporary folder is erased.
This is a Podcast problem. Although you managed to play an episode, (in iTunes - I can't), it is a different process to "play" the file as distinct from downloading it as a Podcast episode, so that explains why it can be played in a browser but not downloaded as a Podcast.
I suggest you contact the programme's producers, since it is they who control the Podcast, not iTunes/Apple. I'm sure their first reaction is likely to be that it's an iTunes problem. It may be, (although I doubt it), but as I stated, Apple don't control Podcasts and they will not fault find this one. From previous posts about faulty Podcasts, I know that if the problem is with the iTunes Store, it will still be the producers of the programme who fault find and then report the issue to Apple.

  • Some video podcasts won't sync after using iPod to move music to new comput

    Hi -
I used my iPod to move my music (and podcasts) to a new computer (from a PC laptop to a Mac Pro). Now when I try to resync it (on either computer) some video podcasts are not synched from iTunes to the iPod. In some cases, all podcasts from the same subscription fail to sync; in other cases, some podcasts synch and others from the same subscription don't. All of the podcasts that fail to synch are video podcasts.

yeah i'm having the exact same problem so thought i'd up this rather than start a new thread. for me, one particular video subscription won't sync at all, and another is fine apart from three videos. particularly annoying as it took an absolute age to actually download them, and now they won't sync.
    anyone got any bright ideas?

  • Why "Podcasts" is not shown in iTune Library as an item?

Lately when I did my usual iTune podcasts synching, I found "Podcasts" as an item in the Library on the up left panel is not there any more.  Anybody know why and how to fix this problem?  Thanks for help.

In iTunes, head to Edit -> Preferences.  Then from under the General tab, make sure there is a tick mark next to Podcasts and any other items you want to appear in the left hand side bar of iTunes.

  • Trying to sync itunes U and podcasts to ipad 1.

When syncing, only some of the iTunes U and podcasts synch to my iPad. I cannot figure out why some move to the iPad and some do not. Does anyone have any ideas?

Stumbled onto information from another forum.  MAYBE this is the problem, but what are solution options? What I did confirm is that ALL of the podcasts and iUniversity  files that will  not sync are MPEG 4 files.  Let me know your thoughts.
Taken from another conversation to someone having a similar issue:
I just downloaded a full HD podcast video from iTunes to my iPad and desktop computer. Both of these videos play just fine. When I synced the iPad to my desktop computer iTunes would not transfer the video to the iPad. The video is 1920x1080, this outside the guideline for iTunes to transfer the video to the iPad.
The iPad is capable of playing a 1080p videos. When i need to send a 1080p to my ipad I use the GoodReader app to do so. It is iTunes (on the desktop) that is placing these restrictions on the videos that can be transfer to the iPad.
If you want to you can voice your opinion to Apple:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html
*H.264 video up to 720p, 30 frames per second, Main Profile level 3.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format
