Controlling SPAM recommendations

I recently moved our organization from MessageLabs to FOPE. Ever since I am getting buried in complaints about spam. Originally I went with the default options. No ASF, and action was spam quarantine. Users complained to no end that they had to visit an
external location to view or preview their spam and/or too many things getting to their inbox that was spam.
Upon the recommendation of a MS support engineer I enabled all of the ASF options. Well then I got buried in complaints that everything was being detected as spam.  So I followed the best practices for configuring FOPE guide and enabled only image links,
spf record fail and from addr auth. It has quieted down a bit, but I still can get complaints for too much spam or for legit items being detected as spam. To make matters worse, I changed our action to x-header so that items could be sent to users Junk Email
folder in hopes that they will not complain about having to visit an external quarantine. But it seems that that action is not always 100 percent consistent.  Some items still get quarantined. I asked the MS support engineer. The response--yeah, that
happens sometimes.
Exchange admin is not my only task. I also do SCCM and all networking here ( switching, routing, firewall, etc). So needless to say, I do not have all day to play with spam setting or field user complaints about the same. I was really hoping this transition
would be smoother.  There is a fairly large cost savings since FOPE was already covered under our SA agreement. So management decided we should try FOPE rather than pay X dollars to MessageLabs.  But this whole thing is proving to be a right PITA.
Does anyone here have some more experience with this service and can throw me a bone or two about how to best configure the service so that it is not ticking off all my users constantly?
Thanks

Richard,
Just so you know, I've gone the "slash and burn" route by deleting an email account, too. It works for a while, but the spam eventually finds you again. So eventually, you'll be right back where you are now, but you will have had the added headache of changing your email address.
One other thing that you might look into is turning on your ISP's spam filtering, if applicable. Assuming your main email account is with your internet ISP, you probably have some options for using the email server's filtering, and these filters are pretty good at getting rid of the bulk of these annoying emails. Typically, this all happens transparently; the "bogus" emails are identified and placed in a separate folder on the server, and they never get to your inbox. When left on the server for a set period of time, they are deleted. The filters with which I have had experience have always been well up to date, and have been excellent at distinguishing good email from bad.
There's even the "sentinel" type of filter, where any email from an unknown address (unknown to your ISP's server) must first be verified by you before it will be passed. In these scenarios, every email sender address is rejected unless you have specifically authorized it. When you receive an email from an address not known to the server, the message gets held in limbo while the server sends an automated reply to the sender. The sender is given the option of sending an "authorization request" to you. When you approve the request, the original email passes to you, and any further email from that address is automatically let through.
You should be able to find these options, if they exist for you, if you log into your ISP's webmail interface.

Need a free app for iPhone5 to control spam email. I am getting rid of SpamDrain very soon.. tired of paying for the app. Any ideas? Suggestions?

Get an email provider who provides decent spam filtering. I use Gmail (and run my other email through that). If I see two spam emails on my iOS devices a month, that's a lot.

  • Is there a way to control spam on my iPad?

    Hi all,
I'm being bombed one a minute at the moment - last 2 days. Don't know how or why. contacted my ISP - no real help there except thy asked me to forward a sample to and spam databse URL. Have put filters on my macbook pro and its OK. Ipad is choked??? Should I sync or not sync? The rules I have in place are to move email with a certain subject to spam folder, and delete - this is working well on my macbook pro. Shouldn't the action of delting the email then be "seen" by the ipad??? Have tried syncing and not syncing that particular emaill account that is being affected. Any suggestions???
    cheers
    Steve

Yes I have been using my ISP's web mail  for a couple hours and it does have a kind of spam control - very basic no rules. you just click a box for each email and then a button marked spam. There are no way to create rules for spam. I have been manually marking mails that come in. This does fix the problem, but its not a solution if it has to be done manually. I
will contact the ISP tomorrow and have it escalated - and hopefully a filter csn be done on the mail server. Never had anything like this in 18 years on the net????
i've been wracking my brain rying to figure out where this has all started - twitter is the culprit.

  • Any Video Control Surface Recommendations?

    Hi Guys,
It's been some time since i've posted here i must admit, but i had a quick question and i'd appreciate some opinions!
I have been editing videos for individual and corporate clients for a while now, and have been utilising logic etc to record some of my own soundtracks - but i now feel that a video/audio control surface would help streamline my workflow (an expensive luxury though!)--- and i wondered if you had any recommendations / advice?
Note: I haven't had the need to really look into the hardware control surfaces, and googling has brought me to the Mackie MCU Pro, Tascam FW-1082 and an Alesis one... but they are a little out of my minds price-range (though not the pocket if reaallly persuaded)
    Many thanks,
    Adam

Shane, thanks for your quick reply! I didn't say they were too expensive... just that in my limited/low knowledge of the things they seemed like an expensive luxury for me - not that they were / were not... i am aware quality costs money (it is why we buy what we buy apple as opposed to pc's etc).
Have you had any experience with the Mackie? it seems like one would just be paying for the name- though undoubtedly it is probably a fantastic piece of kit, the Tascam does seem an equal competitor. Are there any others that you can reccomend/know of? i am struggling with net research- it mainly points me to those two..and a selection of home-user plastic jog wheels etc.
    Many thanks,
    Adam

  • Version Control Software Recommendations

Can anyone recommend a reliable 3rd party Version Control System to look after our Forms, Packages, Procedures, SQL Scripts etc.
Without bashing Oracle's SCM too much we are finding it a little restrictive and there is very little information on how to get the best out of it.
Merging and Version comparison isn't a must (one of SCM's better qualities) but it should integrate with a 9i DB for storing of the objects as BLOB's etc.

    Hi,
Take a look at the Quest product called STAT.

  • Firewire Audio Control Surface Recommendations?

I'm looking to add a Control Surface for working with audio in FCP and Soundtrack. Just wondering if anyone has a recommendation. I saw a demo with a Tascam 1082, but it kept creating the "Unexpectedly Quit" dialogue box in Soundtrack.
    Thanks,
    Derrell

I'm currently using the FW-1082; my thoughts? With FCP - other than setting it up - it's fairly straight forward. Though with other more audio sophisticated software, it takes a concerted effort to learn how to use it, since unlike an analog type mixer, each button serves many functions and there's no clear label (it's a lot like learning to type all over again), also the functionality changes depending on the app you use it with.
I currently use mine with FCP5 and Logic 7.1, in Logic, it rocks: but it's extremely complicated - though easier to sett up with the app (Logic recognizes it natively) ... in FCP, once you've got it recognized, it's easy, but it's really weired to get it working.
You seem to HAVE to have the mixer window open in order for it to function; which is really silly, that scroll wheel and transport controls are useful with just the video alone!
Anyway, so far, no bombs for me - but it wasn't easy figuring out that you must do all these things before it works as you get no clues since nothing happen until you complete all the steps, which are:
1 - Put the device into Mackie Emulation using the 1082 software
2 - go to the control surface menu in FCP5, add your 1082, but making certain you select the "control port" as the communcations channel, and Mackie Control Surface, or else it doesn't seem to work.
3 - make certain you have the audio mix window open (in the instructions, it seems as if it's just assumed that you've got the window open - I personally didn't care about mixing at the time, I just wanted to use the scroll wheel instead of that tiny gooby thing on my mighty mouse)
Anyway, that's where I'm at with it now - hopefully I can find a way to get rid of the mix window, and still be able to use the transport controls.

  • OpenScript: Which files to put under Version Control?

    Hi,
According to JB's description of [how to enable Subversion|https://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=10677356] for OpenScript, I have now an active version control.
The next question is now: which files I should put under version control? Obviously, the script.java is a good decision, but there are many more, such as java, properties, but also specific folders like "recorded data" and "results" folder.
Which once I should put under version control, any recommendation?
    Thanks a lot in advance!
    Volker

    Thanks for your replies,
it's nice to know that I was going the right way.. :)
But how do you handle these little bugs, that I mentioned in my first message? Do you check-out all files in the project before work? Or they are TeamSystem - specific?
    Best wishes, Serg.

  • How to tag spam mails in iron port and foreword to junk folder?

How to tag spam mails in iron port and foreword to junk folder?

    As Dave has suggested.
Positively identified spam recommended actions would be to Drop it -- if you would like to review these emails and manually remove it, then send it to the spam quarantine
This can be changed under the GUI > Mail Policies > Click on Incoming or Outgoing mail Policies and edit the anti-spam settings per policy if needed.
Ideally suspected spam to be sent to the quarantine for further review.
If you do not wish to use a quarantine or drop the email, you can prepend the email as Dave also suggested and send it to the end recipient under [Suspected Spam] <Subject> for the end user to determine it.
However the IronPort will not make specific rules to deliver it to the MUA's Junk mail folder.
This type of setup is normally down to each specific end user to work with on their own MUA  (outlook, lotus, safari etc.)
    I hope this helps.

  • [basic] the scope of motion control in LV

I am a very beginner in motor control part.
Very recently, some motor need to use some proper control board in control unit or PC.
If so, what is the scope of the motion control driver (library) in LabVIEW developement version?
    Some restricted motor type?
What other instrument should I prepare to use the driver?
What's the difference between this type(PC or control board) and NI motion controller?
Any materials for beginner should be welcomed.

For getting started with NI Motion Control I recommend this website. Here you will find tutorials, webcasts, selection guides and much more.
In general NI Motion solutions are not limited to specific motor types or applications. Depending on your application requirements you can select between motion control plugin-boards or software defined systems based on real-time hardware and/or FPGA technology.
Please have a look at our web resources first and post any specific questions to the forum.

  • Process control and clustering

the document says process control is recommended within a domain. my question how does this work if the domain is clustered. The doc says process control is RMI based. Does that mean it will auto load balance using RMI clustering ? or it will always use only the local server ?

    Hello Kumar,
Process control is to control the workflow process like you can complete the workflow, make a step obsolete, cancel the workflow, etc.
Fork is something that will give you more than one branch. The fork step gets completed only when the mentioned number of branches are completed. For example you have a requirement for approval and there are 3 approvers and the requirement is such that atleast 2 approvers should approve the request then you will go for a fork of 3 branch with minimum 2 for completion.

  • Parental Controls - Logs of Websites Visited Empty.

Recently gave my old Black MacBook to my 10 year old son.
Set up parental controls and all seems to be fine, except the Logs of websites viewed is empty.
Doesn't matter if I look at them on his MacBook or remotely on my MBP. How can I fix this? Any advice please? He's getting to an age where curiousity is taking him to some darker corners of the internet I'd rather he'd didn't see yet. Mostly these sites are auto-blocked but there are some I'd like to know he's visited so I can block them manually.
    Thanks.

I've never cared for Apple's implementation of Parental Controls and recommend a full feature program like K9 Parental Controls for Mac. It's free for home use. Just don't forget your Admin password. It's required for uninstallation.

  • Spam filter mulfunction

I have 3 mail accounts that I open via Apple Mail.
As I increasingly get all the medical and insurance spam, I went to the spam filter section of preferences and tried out several settings, to no avail. Either it lets everything in or it throws into the spam bin even my own emails, as well as the daily newsletters I get (of course, their addresses are in the Address Book).
I thought I was just unable to resolve a simple problem, so I went to the Apple store to get the help of a Genius. After 40 minutes of trying all the tricks in his bag the Genius gave up. Very much to my dissatisfaction.
The problem is that I either have to waste time to sort and throw the medical stuff away, or I waste it to find and fish legitimate emails out of the spam bin.
What is the next step in trying to resolve such Apple Mail problem?
    Thanks a lot,
    Luigi

First of all, know that you're talking to other customers here.  If you want to talk to Verizon you need to call or chat with them.
Never, ever, click "unsubscribe" on a spam message.  This confirms to the spmers that your email address is valid and it will be added to even more spam lists.
The only time to use unsubscribe is when the sender is obviously a valid company that you no longer want to receive emails from.
Verizon doesn't control spam or the presence or absence of unsubscribe options.  Again, as noted above, you don't want to use unsubsrcibe on spam messages.  It is really a "subscribe to more spam" button.
Verizon's email service is not the best in the market.  Many people use gmail, outlook or other free email services that offer much better features and spam control.  This also has the added benefit of de-coupling your email account from your ISP.  That way, if you ever change ISPs you don't have to change email addresses.
    Enjoy.
