Controlling web catalog promotions (11g)

Hi, we're thinking about setting up our web catalog with three different types of high level folders:
1. Standard personal folders for each user
2. "Sandbox" shared folders that can be shared by a group
3. Enterprise approved "gold standard" folders
Everything in the "gold standard" folder will be controlled centrally, so I have no issues with that. However, for the business area "sandboxes" - I do NOT want each and every user in that group to have access to publish to the sandbox area. I want that controlled by 1 or 2 power users.
The issue I'm hitting is I'm not sure how a power user could go into another users folder, grab a analysis, and publish it into the sandbox area. Even if the user grants access to the power user, it appears that no person can go into another person's personal folder.
Is the only solution for this is to give the catalog manager tool to the power users?
Thanks,
Scott

Hi,
You can go to the Web catalog folder path and take the users report file and its .atr file and then paste them in the desired location (If the user is having the access to view the report.)
Hope this helped/ answered.

    Hi Deepak,
When I am running the following command "./runcat.sh -cmd diff -baseline /home/oracle/SampleAppBaseline -latest /home/oracle/SampleAppChanged -outputFile /home/oracle/SampleAppDiff.txt -folder /shared -verbosity detail" in command line it is erroring out as follows : "'.' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file." . • 11g - Automatic Deployment of Web Catalog

    Hi,
I need a way of automatically deploying a new web catalog for OBIEE 11.1.1.5. Has anyone had any experience of doing this before and can offer some advice?
Presumably I'd need to 'lock and edit' the deployment, then copy in the new webcat files, then unlock again... all using a script.
    Answers on a postcard, please!
    Thanks.

    User,
I have plenty of thoughts on this and I'll point you in what I think to be the right direction.
I wrote a post, http://www.artofbi.com/index.php/2011/03/obiee-11g-patching-capabilities-fusion-middleware-enhancements/, which talks about some new command-line capabilities in OBIEE 11g. The one you want to look at is how to access the catalog manager's command line functionality which may be one of the only two solutions possible for your automation requirements.
1.) Locate the path of your catalog manager runcat.cmd as I highlight in the blog post. From a command-line prompt run the command, runcat -help to see the help menu for this executable. You will see there are functions for diff, creatPatch, applyPatch, etc. Take this as a starting point for your automation.
2.) The OBI Web Services (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E21764_01/bi.1111/e16364/methods.htm#CHDHEHAG) do provide a decent amount of web catalog interaction that could potential help you to automate some tasks but that depends on your full requirements which I don't know.
Outside of those two options you are probably looking at using the antiquated but still viable solution of opening up two web catalog managers and doing the do.
We crave points around here so if this was helpful or the correct answer please kindly award points.
    Cheers,
    Christian

  • Web Catalog - Item Lock Needs Attention

Hello, I am receiving an error in the web catalog (Item Lock Needs Attention). I tried to migrate about 22 files using the Catalog Manager, but it seems that the application placed a lock on the files.
When I try to delete the file from the front-end, I received this error in EM (Item Lock Needs Attention:) (Context: 0, code: QM3V3HLV), and (access denied for user to path /users/myusername).
I already tried stopping all the BI server components and restarting, but the error still persists.
    Any help is appreciated

Login to Catalog Manager >> root >> users >> and assign full control to 'myusername' on 'My Folder' and restart OPMN.

  • Can anyone explain, crawlersys.lck on Web Catalog?

In OBI 11g, Recently I noticed that a file within the root of my web catalog called crawlersys.lck. It wasn't there prior to start up of presentation services, but afterwards it was there. Has anyone else noticed this or can anyone explain this file and its relation to the web catalog / presentation services?
    Thanks in advance,

Nevermind on this, I found what I needed here, http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E21764_01/bi.1111/e10541/prescatadmin.htm#CACEFJCJ
as this relates the Full-Text Search capability of OBIEE 11g.

  • Web Catalog Permissions - Everyone and Presentation Server Administrators

When you copy/paste new objects from one Web Catalog to another the default permissions are granted with Everyone having Read access and Presentation Server Administrators having Full Controll. Is there any setting/configuration to change that would allow this to only grant the Full Access to Presentation Server Administrators and not the Read to Everyone. Would appreciate any input, thanks.

Would appreciate any input, thanks.I don't think this is correct. What I see happening is that when you paste a folder it will get the permissions of the parent folder by default. So your parent folder must have Everyone = Read access and Presentation Server Administrators = Full Controll. So there isn't any default permissions, you just get whatever the parent folder has.

  • Application Web Catalog on linux machines.

When tried to have Application Web Catalog on Linux machines like Cent-OS 6.3 and Ubuntu 12.04 thorugh firefox, It is asking for Silverlight to be installed. The Windows machines controlled by the same SCCM servers, are able to access the web catalog using
    Silverlight 5.0.
For firefox on Linux, the latest available Silverlight is 4.0. Web catalog is not working with this version of Silverlight.
Is there any work-around to have Application Web Catalog on Linux Machines?

As additional context, the design point for the Linux and UNIX capabilities in ConfigMgr is specifically for servers, not desktops.  Our thinking is that in a server-only scenario, user targeted policies don't really make any sense, and the
Application Catalog doesn't really make any sense, as there isn't a "user" logged in to the console to interact with the catalog.
If you have additional input on this topic, I'd be happy to hear it.  You can contact me offline at username mikelley with the usual "at" microsoft.com.

  • Multiple web catalog files for same rpd

Is there any way to run multiple web catalog files for same rpd in OBIEE?

Why do you want to do that? Why not merge them into one? You run seperate presentation servers againt the same RPD.

  • Web Catalog - User Folders

We currently are in the process of including the domain name in the OBIEE account name so jsmith will become Domain/jsmith. This is has been changed in the RPD using the UDML script. My question is with the current users folders in the Web Catalog. My first question would be is there any thing that any of you have used to be able to figure out who has requests or dashboards saved in their personal folders/my dashboards.
In regards to moving the contents, the only thing I could think of doing right now is create the folder in the Web Catalog and move the objects under the users folder (jsmith) into the newly named folder (Corp/jsmith) then apply the applicable permissions and ownership. I was wondering if there is any other way those on the forum have done this?
Thanks to all for any suggestions.

There is no easy way to do what you want I think. By default Administrators don't have access to use folders. You can change this but you will need to do this manually for each user folder because if you do it recursively at the /root/users/ level then all the user's permissions are removed. You could do a script that checks the contents of the user's personal folder looking at the file system Web Catalog [Web Catalog Path]/root/users/[user name]/ to see if they have any requests saved or not. They are a few standard items in the user's folder so if you ignore all those plus all the .atr files (permission to items) then you should be able to get a list of users that have saved reports.

  • Web Catalog Publishing using MDM RPCM scenario

    Hi Experts
Is it possible to do web catalog publishing using MDM Publisher or Publisher APIs? if yes, where can i get the information on how to proceed with it?
I came across this[thread|Re: Web Catalog Publishing]
where Markus has stated that web catalog publishing is possible with java APIs and SAP is having plans to include that functionality in Publisher tool as well, in its future releases.
I couldnu2019t find any straightforward answer for my question either in MDM Java docs or in Publisher guide.
    Thanks in advance
    SwarnaDeepika

Thank you Markus for the prompt reply.
The link was very helpful. The line
To build dynamic Web sites with complex MDM data layouts
was what i was looking for.
So using the publishing APIs MDM data can be sent through to a web site which acts as a online catalog, can you please confirm?
Can these APIs be used to expose the catalog using enterprise portal as well, instead of a normal website (just like how its done in SRM-MDM catalog)?
P.S: Kindly bear with me, if my questions are silly. An expert's opinion is all i need

  • OBIEE web catalog organization (or lack thereof...)

Hi, I'm trying to come up with a "best practices" scheme to allow organizing our "shared" web catalog folders and directory structure. Our particulars are:
    - We need to have one group of dashboards / reports that are "enterprise approved"
    - we need to have another set of areas available for various business units to do their own work in, but not be available as "enterprise approved", just for business area use
    - need to cover analyses, dashboards, filters, prompts, etc.
    - would like to keep dashboard related items organized together if possible
    - would like to keep prompted analyses separate from analyses used in dashboards if necessary
    - power users will all have their own "personal" folders, I'm not worried about those (but if hints on how to arrange to make migration to either the shared "business unit" or shared "enterprise approved" folders, that would be great)
    - I'd like dashboards to show up properly, which seems to imply they need to be just one level under the main "Shared" directory
Does anyone have a best practices way of organizing the web catalog to make the above easy to accomplish?
    Thanks,
    Scott

    Hi
Did anyone help you out?  I am also looking for a list of best practices or blogs that contain that type of information.

  • Export web catalog OBIEE Answers

    Hi,
I have created an rpd in Administration Tool on machine Windows. Then in Answers I have created any reports based on rpd definition and all works.
Now, I've copied my rpd on another machine (Unix), but when I log in Answers I see the cataloue and all dimensions, but i don't see reports created and saved on Windows Machine.
Maybe to copy only rpd is not sufficient enough, but I must export catalogue too???. How can I do?
Under path: OracleBIData\web\catalog\samplesales\root on Windows machine I see atr files named as my reports, and they there aren't on Unix Machine. Can I copy whole folder to Unix Machine to see reports or there's a wizard?
    Thanks
    Giancarlo

Or fire up catalog manager tool online twice, one for each environment and simply drag and drop the cataloge options you want.
For the first go, I'd zip the catalog up on windows, copy it over to the server and unpack it.
For the next releases, you'll probably want to move changed reports only, so use the catalogue manager tool.
