Controlling which cameras launch iPhoto

I need to find the place that controls which software gets launched when a USB device is plugged in. I have a Canon PowerShot S90, and I want that to launch iPhoto (which it does). I also have two Flip video cameras, and iPhoto insists on launching for those, even thought it can't do much with the video -- I'd rather launch iMovie. And then, the idiotic Flip software also launches if you plug in a Flip video cam, and I'd like to shut off automatic launching of that one entirely. There must be a pList or something that I can tweak.

Thanks for the tip, it looks like a good way to manage cameras. Unfortunately, there is something about Flip 4 Mac that won't allow it to get control. Flip 4 Mac refuses to honor its own preferences check mark to enable/disable automatic launching, and the Cameras control had no effect on that. So now if I plug in a Flip, both iMovie and Flip 4 Mac launch.

  • Wifi Canon Camera launches iPhoto (in Mavericks), but nothing shows to import?

Prior to upgrading to Maverick, I had no troubles connecting my Canon S110 wirelessly to my neatork, computer, and into iPhoto.
Now, when I connect the camera to my computer,  the computer detects the connection, and even launches iPhoto, so it's being detected
    - but that's it,   no options to import anything,  so I had to remove the SD card and do it the old fashioned way.
I don't see any updates, but assume something broke, but wondering if anyone has experienced the same or if there's something I might have missed.
    Thanks

I have the same issues with updated OS X Mavericks 10.9.1 and iPhoto 9.5.1 (902.17). To me it seems it is iPhoto problem, since if it was Canon firmware problem, the camera would not be visible in Image Capture either, right? And besides WiFi connection to computer + iPhoto import worked like a charm before update. I Also sent the feedback via iPhoto.
Any news on update from Apple??
p.s. IMHO it is sad that Apple remains to my eyes always silent in these forums with the problems I've googled now or in the past.

  • Controlling which browser launches

I have a BES connected blackberry. When reading BES delivered emails using the Playbook Messages app, if I encounter an embedded link to a corporate site, the Playbook should launch the Bridge browser which is able to access the  link. Instead, it launches the Playbook browser which cannot access the link. Has anyone discovered a way to control which browser is launched?

If you use the bridge without any WIFI, or tethering, it should open the bridge browser, otherwise it will open the WIFI browser

  • On iPhoto you can click info and see which camera was the source for the photograph, is there any way to identify which camera took the video on iMovie?

Is there a way to determine which camera was the source for video clips in iMovie?  You can do this in iPhoto by clicking info but I can't find out how to do it in iMovie.

Not as far as I know.  (you can often tell from the file name format).

  • I have multiple iPhoto libraries and when I selecting which library to view (hold down 'option' key and launch iPhoto from the dock) it automatically closes another open apps window eg. Chome, Word. 1 app closes every time I launch iPhoto this way.

I have multiple iPhoto libraries on my Macbook Air 10.7.5 and when I am selecting which library to view (hold down 'option' key and launch iPhoto from the dock) it automatically closes another open application window eg. Chome, Word. 1 app closes every time I launch iPhoto this way.

If you're pushing Option at the exact moment you're clicking the Dock icon, it's supposed to do that. Wait until just after clicking it.

  • How do I get it to not launch iPhoto when camera connects?

Is there a way to set my Mac up to not launch iPhoto when I plug a camera or card reader into it? I need to just copy the pics off to work with them in Photoshop, it it want to launch iPhoto every time. My iPhoto is really full and that takes a good 2 minutes to do, completely killing my Mac in the process. Any help would be great.

    Thank Peter.
I have never even opened that program before. Why isn't this option in iPhoto? What a crazy place to put that.
    Again, THANK YOU!!!

You may have to research any newer possibilities in trouble-
shooting or resolving issues by use of iPhoto Support page.
Since I don't use iPhoto as a primary editor or storage, the
details on the topic aren't so good. I prefer ToyViewer editor.

  • Upgraded to Lion - iPhoto gone! NO access to my cd's which came with my laptop

    Hey everybody!
Old question, but slightly different, searched all over for solutions already, but for all of them I need the Cd's which came with my laptop (10.7.2, MacBook Pro early 2008). Since Im not in my home country till the end of the year, I wont have access to them!
Please I need your help! Any Ideas?
    Thank you very much!
    Best regards

    You need an installer disk.
If you don't have one then your only option is to purchase iPhoto 11 on the App Store.
    There are no other options.

  • Knowing which camera I used to take a picture in my iPhoto library

    Hi,
I was wondering if there is a way that I can know which camera I used to take a picture in iPhoto?
    Thanks,
    Brandon

Ah but you can display the keywords unde the photo in the library and you can not display the EXIF under the photo - hence:
for future easy reference select all photos in the smart album and assign a unique keyword to them for each camera

  • Import photos off iPhone camer into iPhoto

For some reason, I cannot seem to get iPhoto to recognize my iPhone anymore. I just need to pull photos of iPhone camera into iPhoto so I can make a book. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Have you tried image capture (in your applications folder)?
Check the iPhoto preference for action when a camera is connected
A good general step for strange issues is to renew the iPhoto preference file - quit iPhoto and go to "your user name" ==> library ==> preferences ==> com.apple.iPhoto.plist and trash it - launch iPhoto which creates a fresh new default preference file and reset any personal preferences you have changed and if you have moved the iPhoto library repoint to it. This may help

  • Ipad and iphone connect launches iphoto

Since updating to iOS 8, whenever I connect my iPhone or iPad to my MBP (running Yosemite), iPhoto launches. I want to stop this happening.
iPhoto preferences are set to 'Connecting camera launches no application'.
I can find no relevant setting in iTunes.
    Any suggestions?

I had already turned it off in iPhoto, but iPhoto still launched.
The linked article said this should have fixed it, but it also pointed to a setting in the 'Image Capture' app (which I had forgotten even existed!) to turnoff iPhoto launch for specific devices.  Doing this for both my iPad and iPhone fixed the problem.
    Thanks!

  • After downloading yosemite, can't import photos from camera to iPhoto

After downloading Yosemite  10.10.1 to my Macbook Air, I can't import photos from camera to iPhoto. Had no problem before. It recognizes camera and says loading, but it never does load photos.

    That's the latest version.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen. Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then take the actions that you're having trouble with. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

  • Some JPG and AVI files imported from camera to iphoto, but not all

I just imported from camera to iPhoto using card reader and half the pics and a couple movies came over. The rest aren't recognized by my iMac, even though they say JPG and AVI and still run fine on camera. I installed Perian plugin a while back at the recommendation of one of you, which solved that problem and I just installed the recent update. I used time machine to restore old version, but that didn't work. I don't know if this is a Quicktime (v 7.4.1) issue or a problem with the flashcard. I tried opening via photoshop and iMovie. Photoshop CS3's message says "Could not complete your request because an unknown or invalid JPEG marker type is found." iMovie, when I try to drag movie into it says "The file could not be imported: ... Quicktime couldn't parse it: -2048". Hopefully one of you knows what is going on. Thanks!!!

Are you running a "referenced" or "managed" library?
    Give this a try:
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.>Click on the Add Library button,
2 -  select the library you want to add from those in the selection window.
3 - make sure that in the rebuild window the checkbox  "Scavange orphaned photos" is checked.
4 - now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
5 - in the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed. Click on the Create button.
Note 1: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost.
Note 2:  Your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

  • Camcorder launches iPhoto and not iMovie?

I've been transferring video from my Canon AVCHD (Vixia HF100) camcorder to iMovie for some time now. But recently, after the Snow Leopard upgrade, when I connect the camera int he same manner, it launches iPhoto to transfer photos, and it does not appear in iMovie.
What is stranger, it does this when the camera is set on the "Review Movies" option, which previously only allowed transfer of movies, not photos. I'm completely unable to transfer movies now, any ideas?

In SL you can modify which camera opens which apps. Look at this tip from LifeHacker
    http://lifehacker.com/5359789/choose-which-app-opens-for-each-camera-in-snow-leo pard
Probably the initial setting interpreted by the upgrade wasn't the best.

  • Every Time Launch iPhoto - Import error popup

Every time I launch iPhoto I receive a popup which states " 5 photos have been found in the iPhoto Library that were not imported." And the subsequent question "Would you like to import them?" When I click Yes an album is created "Recovered Photos" however there are no pictures in it. If I click NO I receive message "The photos have been placed in the folder/users/name/pictures/iphotolibrary recovered photos_##" Each time I open iPhoto and select NO another recovered photo folder is created. I have 42 recovered photo folders. Has anyone seen this problem??

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for a Folder called 'Import' or 'Importing'.
Drag it to the Desktop. *Make no other changes*.
    Start iPhoto. Does that help?
If it does then look inside that folder on your desktop. Does it contain anything you want? If not you can trash the folder.
    Regards
