Controls won't change when a tool is selected.

When I select a tool such as brush or eraser the controls at the top of Illustrator do not change tot the tools setting there for I can not adjust the tools settings such as size, softness etc.... How do I fix this?

You may be confusing between Photoshop control bar and Illustrator... you have to double click on brush or eraser to invoke it's controls in Illustrator.

Make sure you don't have it locked in portrait mode. Is there a symbol at the top right of the phone (near battery indicator) that looks like a padlock with a circle round it? If so, you turn it off by double clicking home button to bring up the multitasking bar and swiping to the right to uncover the button which controls this.

Brush flow won't change when switching brushes

my brush flow setting won't change according to the type of brush i'm using and i don't know why.
for example, if i'm using a round brush with a 70% flow then i decided to switch to another brush that i have preset with a 100% flow. under normal circumstances the flow will change with the brush preset, no? but when i do it the brush flow will stay the same as my previous brush setting.
can someone please help me.

Have you checked the Options bar? The Icon immediately after the Opacity setting would cause that effect.

Double click the Home button. Slide up with one finger on ALL your apps to close them.

Why doesn't my cursor change when I click the selection tool?

When I open any file, the object -- in this case, an image -- is already selected.
I want to enlarge the image so I click the buttons to do that. Normally I would pick 125% or 150%, but the dropdown menu does not open. I tried clicking the up arrow/down arrow buttons. Nothing happened. I tried double-clicking on the numbers to type a percentage; tiny blue horizontal bars appear on either side of the default "100" as if the machine is trying to highlight the number, but can't.
I click the Text tool, get the I-beam, and can click in a text box.
After all that, I click the selection tool. Nothing happens. My cursor is an I-beam. I cannot change it to anything else.
I have installed and uninstalled InDesign several times in an effort to correct this and related problems.
Installed from media -- original disks -- encountered problem -- uninstalled & reinstalled -- problem not solved.
Downloaded installation files from Adobe. Same result.
Uninstalled & reinstalled InDesign only. Still no go.
Reimaged computer back to factory settings, created desktop installation point for CS4, installed CS4 from there. Still no go.
Is it possible that there is some kind of incompatibility between CS4 and my computer? It is a new (one week old) Acer Travelmate laptop. Got it from TigerDirect, a trustworthy merchant.
My OS is Windows 7, but this shouldn't be a problem; CS4 runs fine with Windows 7 on another computer in my house (which, unfortunately, is occupied most of the time, or I would use that).
Any ideas at all?
Please help. I have a project deadline coming up and really need this particular computer to work.

I would give you money if I had money.... The next best thing I can think of to offer thanks is give you a great recipe:
1 pizza crust of your choice
olive oil
8 oz of goat cheese (more or less to suit your taste)
1 medium tomato
6 large cloves of fresh garlic
4-6 oz of sliced black olives (more or less to suit your taste)
fresh or dried basil
For best results, all ingredients should be organic or at least of highest quality available
Oven 350
Pre-heat the oven to 350 (important to do this). Dice the tomato to 1/4-inch bits and dice the garlic to 1/8-bits or as near as you can. Slice the black olives if necessary. Brush the pizza crust with olive oil. Blind bake it for 3 minutes or until two rooms smell really nice.
Spread on the goat cheese. Sprinkle on the basil, tomato, olives and garlic as evenly as you can.
Bake the pie for 15 minutes and check it for doneness to your liking (crispy or not).
Serve with salad and a cold white wine for a nice dinner for two, or cut into 2" squares for appetizers at a party.

why won't my apple id change on the main downloading feature for the apple store. my new id is changed under the setting on my phone but when i go to download updates it still has my old id locked in and listed? so i have it changed on icloud and app store/itunes but when i hit the apple store icon on my phone and press update all it has my old id still locked in. how can i change this nothing is working?

Did you update your existing account or create a new one ? If you created a new account then any content that you purchased/downloaded via the old account will remain tied to that old account, and only that old account can download updates to its apps.

Space bar won't change into hand tool while pressing

Today, I was suprprise to find out the space bar in my computer white trying to move my image to centain section.
It is a very very handy and timesaving shortcut. does anyone know anyrhing or have the same issue, using Illustrator CC/16?
For instance I came to think is my keyboard but I checked with older software and it's working file.
I appreciate any imput.

Spacebar as hand tool is restored!! I think Dave was right about something interfering with it. The only thing that i changed on my system before this happened was that I unlocked my login in keychain access. Once I went back to keychain access and locked login again, did a restart and opened photoshop, the spacebar as hand tool was restored! So if anyone else has this problem, think back to what you did last on your system and revert to how it originally was. Hope this helps somebody out there

New Tab on Mission Control won't change Wallpaper

Hey guys so I seem to be having a weird problem.
I changed the wallpaper on my computer, but everytime I click a new tab it brings up the old wallpaper I had. I even went as far as to delete the old wallpaper, and made sure that the new one I wanted was set.
Restarting the computer didnt do anything...any suggestions? Its not really that big of a deal just REALLY annoying...

You could try removing/renaming the .jmc folder in your home directory and retry starting JMC. You'll have to reinstall 3rd-party/experimental plugins but at least you should be able to get back going.
IIRC there is a known bug related to this (fixed in the next release) but I'll check more thoroughly when back at work.

Mail icon won't change when I receive new emails

I have 2 mail accounts on my 8530. I can still receive and send email from both accounts without
a problem. Now, however, when I receive email, neither icon changes to show that little red asterisk. What happened? Anyone know how to re-activate that notice/icon change?

Photoshop program error when type tool is selected

I've been trying to use the type tool in Photoshop and I am able to select the tool, however as soon as I place the cursor on my document, I get a program error. From there, I have to force quit the program to get out of it. I downloaded a security update for my mac yesterday, but since I haven't been using the type tool in photoshop recently, I'm not sure if that had anything to do with this issue or not. Has anyone had the same problem?

Let me clarify. I'm running Mac OS X v. 10.4.11, Photoshop CS4. The error message just says "Could not complete your request because of program error". I haven't uploaded any new fonts to my system, however, I have deleted some that were suspect of being corrupt. I cannot change fonts on the type tool because it doesn't give me a chance, the error message pops up instantly. I have reset my tools and deleted my preferences and even reinstalled Photoshop CS4 but nothing has worked.

Mask button grayed out when Pen tool's selected?

I am going through a tutorial about how to use the Pen tool.
The tut shows that I should be able to click the Mask button in order to create a trans BG. However, mine is grayed out. I cannot find a reason why that would be. I am able to use the Layer Mask under other circumstances.
(The tut has me take an image, draw around the image to practice pulling/dragging, twisting, adding handles etc & so forth).
I have the pen tool set to Path but the Mask doesn't become available under any of the options.
The tut says to click Ctrl + Click on the path and then to click the Mask button.
Any ideas why the Mask is grayed out?

I am suppose to make a selection of the path.
I'm now completely embarrassed. Of course a trans bg can't be made when it's the bg I'm working on.
The tutors' Layer panel shows only Layer 1 and no bg. He said to download the image he uses from Diviantart but the image would only open in a browser. So, I right clicked and saved the image. Then I opened the image which, of course, just opens on the bg layer.
So, am I suppose to create a New file > New Layer and then open the image?
Sorry if my questions seem obvious to you but I am just learning and still very much a newbie.

Sysdate changes when number of rows selected are huge

My requirement is that same date and time should be selected for all the rows returned by the query.
Eg: Select empno, ename , sysdate from Emp
If the query runs for more than a second, then the second component of SYSDATE will be different.
What I want is that the query firing time should be selected for all the rows returned by the query.
I hope there should be a way in Oracle to do this

Have you actually seen this happen?
On testing in Oracle 8.1.7i environment with a query
select col1, col2, to_char(sysdate,'hh24:mi:ss')
from big_table;
which returned approx 3m rows and executed for over 8 minutes the sysdate value was the same for the first row selected and the last row selected, and was the time at the start of the query.
Kevin is correct that Oracle gets the the value of Sysdate once when the query is executed and uses that value until the time that a new query is parsed.

Metadata window doesn't change when new thumb is selected

Since recent update I have the following problem several times a day:
I add metadata (in split window) to a few pics. Click on another thumbnail to edit its metadata and the metadata window (left of screen) doesn't show info for the newly-clicked-on pic. It continues to show info from previous pic. Can't change that window regardless of the view or how many other pics I click on.
Only solution I've found is to close and reopen. This happened four times yesterday, and again, within 10 minutes of starting to edit today.
I looked into plists for Aperture (home>library>app support), but there are a lot of them and I'm not sure which might be causing the problem—or if any are.

Portal Page fails to change when different link is selected

I have created popup portal page in the form of a JSPTabContainer. To get the page to launch I am selecting a url that is inside a JSPProvider Channel. The Url is of the form /portal/dt?provider=PopupJSPTabContainer. For some reason setting the property "one_new" for "windowPref" inside the calling JSPProvider Channel has no effect. However by putting target="_blank" in the href tag I am able to pop it up.
Then when I close that popup window and attempt to go to any other link inside the portal, it continues displaying the content for the page that I just popped up. In effect, once that page has been popped, the portal is stuck and every link makes that page content display inside the original portal browser window. I have to log out and log back in to reset it. Any ideas?

I am on windows. I checked in the locale directory and there is no amAuthSecureID.properties file there at all although there are many others! I found a copy up in the PolicyAgent\IdentityServer\j2ee_agents\locale directory and copied it there. I will see if that fixes the error. In the meantime Could you clarify what you mean by checking to see if the content is coming from the right provider? I took an existing JSPTabContainer and copied it. I then renamed it to a different directory name. I added it as a channel container in the top level portal desktop using the directory name as the channel name and using JSPTabContainerProvider as the provider. This should be correct right? Apple ID won't change in App Store!

Does anyone know how to change the Apple ID in the App store on the iPhone 4? The ID on my MacBook and in my iTunes are both accurate, and it says in the settings of my phone (and even in the app store of my phone) that the Apple ID is accurate, but I went to update my apps and it has an innaccurate ID in the login and it won't change. I've logged out and back in, connected and synced it with my iTunes on my computer, turned it off and on again, and it still won't change when I try to update my apps. Help!

Yes - for those with this problem on the Mac, I fixed mine today. (Merry Christmas!)
1. My situation was interesting. I was logged into the App Store OK as me (you can do this despite the greying out if you go to the STORE menu in the App Store app). This meant that my "Purchases" not yet installed on this particular Macbook Pro were available to install. (It doesn't ask for the password again.) However, my "UPDATES" for software already installed brought up the sign-in dialog box with the previous user's account name greyed out (Admin IT people from my workplace).
2. The two available updates that this clearly affected were iMovie and iPhoto in my case. I therefore followed the advice here about removing the receipt identifying the previous 'purchaser' of these apps. Note: you do that via the PACKAGE of each affected application itself (using the finder) - see the instructions.
THAT FIXED IT.
3. I don't know if this is relevant, but just in case: my Mac had a separate account for our IT dept called 'Administrator'. In System Preferences under USERS & GROUPS, I selected that account and changed its Apple ID (in fact none was set at all - so it might not have been relevant) to my own Apple ID. (No password required here, so not risky on its own I think.) I don't know that this was relevant, and once I had done step 2 above (which I actually did after this one) I simply deleted my ID again from that Administrator account.
