Convergence 2 Questions

Can convergence 2 be configured to have an automatic chime(sound) or popup window when new email arrives?
Can convergence 2 be configured to update it's unread count on folders that are not inbox?

No.
However, since F9/F10 work with In and Out points, you can do what you're asking by removing the In and Out for Audio (or Video) in the Viewer. Easiest way to do that (in my opinion) is to right-click in the Scrubber bar of the Viewer (where you've already set In and Out) and select Clear Split > Audio Marks from the contextual menu. So long as you've got your Video In and Out set, doing an F9 or F10 at this point will insert/overwrite only video.
Or, if you know these are clips where you're only going to use the video portion, use the keyboard shortcuts (Control-I and Control-O) to mark Video In and Out, respectively, instead of simply I and O.
I understand if this isn't what you're looking for, but it's the best approximation since there isn't, say, an Insert Video Only function that you could map a keyboard shortcut to in FCP.
Also - for pasting video onto a specific track, I've found that I have to change the auto select of the track to the track I want it to paste on - but if I don't change the auto select directly before I do the paste, it ignores which track is auto-selected. Does anyone else have this issue with pasting?
As mentioned, this is the way that copy and pasting works in FCP. One of those things we love (to hate) about FCP.

  • Question about Convergence per-domain customized login pages

    hi,
    Recently I installed JES 7 with Convergence 1u3 and have two domains:
    The default is defaultdomain.com
    test.com is my second hosted domain
    I would like to have different login page one per domain. So far I did this:
    iwcadmin -w test123 -o client.{test.com}.loginpage -v "/iwc_static/layout/login-test.html"
    And copy login.html to login-test.html and modify it.
    Also did an appserver restart.
    If I try this URL:
    http://mail.test.com/iwc_static/layout/login-test.html
    I can view the html page and enter to the convergence without problem.
    But my question is the following:
    If I try this URL:
    http://mail.test.com/iwc
    I get a redirect to:
    http://mail.defaultdomain.com/iwc_static/layout/login.html?lang=en&10.01_182620&svcs=abs,im,mail,calendar,c11n
    that behavior is correct? or am I missing something in my appserver/Convergence configuration?
    Thanks in advanced

    Thank you Shane but still doesn't work.I tried your exact steps and still couldn't reproduce the problem you reported:
    ./iwcadmin -w password -o client.{test.com}.loginpage -v /iwc_static/layout/login-test.html
    cd /opt/sun/appserver/domains/domain1/docroot/
    cp iwc_static/layout/login.html iwc_static/layout/login-test.htmlRestart App-Server.
    Edited "hosts" file on client browser system to point mail.test.com at Convergence server IP address.

  • Questions on Corporate Directory in Convergence

    1. I want to have ability to create multiple corporate directories. I had that ability in UWC, but its not working in IWC. do I have to do anything special. Example, I have a directory for students and another for staff. I want to list them as two separate directories "Staff directory" and "Student Directory". I don't see any way of doing this in Convergence.
    2. I have more than 20000 users in my directory, and When I click on the corporate directory, it takes for ever to display the users. Even if i search it takes for ever. I even reduced the lookthrough limit to 25. still i think its trying to search for the entire directory.
    Any help on tuning will help me.
    I am running Sun Communication suite 6 update 2.
    Thanks

  • Convergence v2 Question on UI customizing

    From Release Notes: "In Convergence 2, you will not be able to customize the UI or the widgets because of a problem in the customization library. Do not attempt to customize the UI or the widgets until the forthcoming patch containing the fix is available."
    Do you have any info on the forthcoming patch or the ID of the problem? Anything I can use to reference this problem when I contact support?

  • Convergence - corporate directory questions

    We need Convergence to search an external corporate directory. Our external directory is populated by a more authoritative database, and the data is sanitized to not contain restricted (FERPA) data.
    1. When will support for an external corporate directory be added to Convergence?
    2. How do you disable the default option to search the Corporate Directory? We can't allow users to search the backend ldap server, and it is misleading to have it present in the interface.
    3. Ideally, we want this to be configured on a per domain basis, since some of our domains will need to search a different corporate directory. Will there be a way to add dojo customizations to change which directory(s) will be searched?

    1. When will support for an external corporate directory be added to Convergence?You can achieve this already e.g.
    ./iwcadmin -w password -o ab.corpdir.[default].ldaphost -v "remoteldap.domain.com"
    ./iwcadmin -w password -o ab.corpdir.[default].ldapport -v 389
    ./iwcadmin -w password -o ab.corpdir.[default].ldapbinddn -v 'cn=Directory Manager'
    ./iwcadmin -w password -o ab.corpdir.[default].ldapbindcred -v 'password'Side Note: I just logged a new bug with regards to attempting to configure a failover ldaphost system using the steps above -- a single ldaphost does work however:
    bug #6825805 - "Failover corporate LDAP server not configurable"
    2. How do you disable the default option to search the Corporate Directory? We can't allow users to search the backend ldap server, and it is misleading to have it present in the interface.There is an option to enable/disable the Corporate Address-book, unfortunately it doesn't work, at least not in my pre-release patch -07 test installation:
    ./iwcadmin -w password -o ab.corpdir.[default].enable -v falsebug #6825820 - "Disabling Corporate Directory causes Convergence to hang during loading of interface"
    3. Ideally, we want this to be configured on a per domain basis, since some of our domains will need to search a different corporate directory. Will there be a way to add dojo customizations to change which directory(s) will be searched?It is already possible to configure per-domain settings for corporate/personal addressbooks. For example I created a new domain (another.domain.com) and set the following:
    ./iwcadmin -w password -o ab.{another.domain.com}.psrootpattern -v 'ldap:///piPStoreOwner=%U,o=%D,o=PiServerDb'
    ./iwcadmin -w password -o ab.{another.domain.com}.pstore.defaultserver -v domainid1
    ./iwcadmin -w password -o ab.{another.domain.com}.pstore.[domainid1].ldaphost -v remoteldap.domain.com
    ./iwcadmin -w password -o ab.{another.domain.com}.pstore.[domainid1].ldapport -v 389
    ./iwcadmin -w password -o ab.{another.domain.com}.pstore.[domainid1].ldapbinddn -v "cn=Directory Manager"
    ./iwcadmin -w password -o ab.{another.domain.com}.pstore.[domainid1].ldapbindcred -v password
    ./iwcadmin -w password -o ab.{another.domain.com}.maxpagedsearch -v 10
    ./iwcadmin -w password -o ab.{another.domain.com}.corpdir.[corpdomainid1].urlmatch -v ldap://corp-directory1

  • Convergence and mshttpd general question

    I've seen suggested on several posts here on this forum and from other Sun engineers that the mshttpd Webmail process should (must?) be run on the same server as Convergence. I didn't find this anywhere in the documentation for Convergence, so if it is there and I missed it, please point out where I overlooked it. For our Comm Suite 7 set up, we had provisioned 4 mail multiplexors (that run mshttpd), 4 mail message stores, and 2 Convergence front-end boxes. Our environment was officially approved by Sun Professional Services, so if this mshttpd/Convergence factor is so important, why wasn't it pointed out to us by S.P.S? Also, why does the Convergence setup let you specify a different hostname for the Web Mail server?
    Thanks,
    Jim

    * Webmail Server component of Messaging Server 7 Update 2
    We recommend that you install the Webmail Server on this host.
    About Webmail Server
    The best deployment practice is to place the Webmail Server on the same host as Convergence to provide horizontal scalability and enable smooth growth of services.
    Note: From a functional perspective, Convergence provides complete mail service when the Webmail Server is located on a different host than Convergence. Therefore, in some deployments, the Webmail Server may be located on a different host.
    Other Messaging Server components such as the message store and MTA, Calendar Server, and Instant Messaging Server may be located on other hosts.
    </snip>
    So whilst you can run the webmail processes on another system, you need to consider the value (CPU offloading) vs. the cost (network delay, additional point-of-failure). The webmail process doesn't consume much CPU resources compared to Convergence.
    For our Comm Suite 7 set up, we had provisioned 4 mail multiplexors (that run mshttpd), 4 mail message stores, and 2 Convergence front-end boxes.Is there any documentation that has the webmail processes (used by Convergence) running behind a load-balancer? I can imagine a few scenarios where this will cause problems:
    => If a user session is processed by different front-ends then there may be synchronization issues e.g. an email marked "Read" in one webmail instance may be "Unread" in another.
    => The webmail services keep IMAP connections open for active sessions (where a logout hasn't occurred/session hasn't timed out). If Convergence is accessing different webmail front-ends for the same user then you could have multiple webmail sessions subsequently additional webmail => IMAP connections.
    => If you have a single problem webmail instance it will impact all Convergence front-ends "randomly" vs. having a single Convergence front-end failing all the time. The second scenario is much easier to diagnose/isolate.
    In general it comes down to this -- don't make your environment more complex then it needs to be.

    Shane.

  • Probably a stupid question, but how do I use an app on my Mac

    Like the heading states ....probably a really dumb question.
    Can I launch an app on my MacBook Pro.  No problems usings apps on my iPhone or iPad.  I just can figure out how to launch an app on my computer!
    Thanks,

    It will probably never change, at least not based on Apple's comments on the issue of iOS and OS X convergence to date, though of course none of us can say with any certainty.
    Regards.

  • Customizing Convergence

    So tonight I just wanted to add a simple 1 or 2 next to the powered by SUN logo in convergence. Basically if a user calls into support I want the tech to be able to ask the customer what's the number in the right hand corner. Help them troubleshoot. In communications express all I had to do was open up header.jsp and add it.
    But in convergence I couldn't figure it out. No code! So basically my question is how can I do this. I see the section on changing colors or replacing logos and such.

  • Convergence 2.0 DISAPPOINTEMENT / Convergence v2  UI customizing

    Hello,
    We plan for some time to move to Convergence 2.0 because many of our users complain of slowness in Convergence 1.0. Complains are mostly due to slowness when connecting from slow internet links.
    Any other custormer is facing the same problem ?
    What is your work around ?
    Our hope was convergence 2.0: I have read in this forum that I may improves this. Our big problem is: in the mean time we are forced to keep our old WebMail infrastructure (Horde/IMP) which works perfectly ...
    Comms 7 was delivered in sept 2009 and Comms 7 Update 1 arrives one year later. As it is unimaginable for us to operate Convergence 2.0 without UI Customization so understand my disappointment when I realized that I will have to wait again for a patch...
    An also big waiting for us is Calendar 7 (Caldav) with delegation. I hope I'll not have such a bad suprise...
    A very disappointed customer,
    PL
    PS: I'm so frustrated that I needed to put my feelings in this forum

Complains are mostly due to slowness when connecting from slow internet links.From what I can tell, the root cause of this issue is that there are too many http requests required to load Convergence. The slowness is pronounced when the user is on a network with high latency. Convergence 2 does not appear to have significantly reduced the number of http requests, so I am not very optimistic that Convergence 2 will solve this issue.
    Any other custormer is facing the same problem ?
    What is your work around ?Web server compression helps a little. Web server caching helps a lot, but only if the client has loaded it in the past.
    We saw:
    60% reduction in average transfer size due to gzip compression
    75% reduction in 304 (not modified) requests to the server due to browser caching
    Our hope was convergence 2.0: I have read in this forum that I may improves this. Our big problem is: in the mean time we are forced to keep our old WebMail infrastructure (Horde/IMP) which works perfectly ...For sake of comparison, to give you an idea of the acceptance factor of Convergence. We are letting our users (starting last winter) opt-in to use Convergence, or stick with Messenger Express for the time being. We are at around 75% adoption at this point.
    The generalized "I don't like change" complaints have subsided.
    There are many instances of people claiming that Convergence does not load at all for them because they are on slow networks.
    I think that the majority of the 25% hold-outs are the "wait til the last minute" type of people.
    The improvements to the preview pane in Convergence 2 should help with adoption since a lot of users don't like the preview pane (and how it marks messages as read)
    Comms 7 was delivered in sept 2009 and Comms 7 Update 1 arrives one year later. As it is unimaginable for us to operate Convergence 2.0 without UI Customization so understand my disappointment when I realized that I will have to wait again for a patch...The ironic thing is that, I suspect, the reason for the large number of http requests in Convergence is a direct result of the extensibility and customizability of Convergence. I am really impressed with the way they designed Convergence in this regard, so it is unfortunate that it left us with this side effect.
    Again, this is all speculation, since no one from the Comms team has officially explained why Convergence is slow to load.
    PS: I'm so frustrated that I needed to put my feelings in this forumProduct delays are understandable. Unlike other software vendors, Sun strives to preserve backwards compatibility and not to introduce regressions. Convergence 2.0 seems to be a significant redesign, so it makes sense that the QA process took longer than expected.
    I'm more frustrated that the Convergence developers don't participate in the community the way that the Messaging Server developers do. Why can't they come out and explain in detail what the root causes of our problems are, instead of making us reverse engineer things in order to come up with our own hacks. It also does not help that Oracle is putting the gag order on release schedules (and who knows what else the Comms guys are forced to withhold from customers.)
    Jesse
    P.S. you might find that posting questions to the [[email protected]|http://www.arnold.com/info-ims.htmlx] mailing list to be a better way to interact with the Comms customer community. Web forums just aren't as good as mailing lists for community interaction.

  • YahooABSPlugin customization for Convergence

    Hi,
    I enabled and tested the YahooABSPlugin customization for Convergence. It works. I would like to know more about this URL, like how safe is it, who controls it and the relationship to Sun since Sun has included and published it in this working example of customizing Convergence. I submitted my working user id and password, which worked and returned my Yahoo contacts. Is this URL safe to use? Or should I change my Yahoo password? Thanks.
    c11n.allDomain.js.widget.YahooABSPlugin
    signIn: function(e) {
    dojo.stopEvent(e);
    var getArgs = {
    url: "http://www.*{color:#ff0000}funnynstupid.com{color}*/yahoo/importjson.php",
    preventCache: true,
    content: {txtEmailAddress: this.username.value, txtPassword: this.password.value, ImportContacts: 'yes'}
    var deferred = dojo.io.script.get(getArgs);
    //jsonImport([{ContactsName: 'AA', ContactsEmail: '[email protected]'}, {ContactsName: 'BB', ContactsEmail: '[email protected]'}]);
    return false;

    Referencing the Sun comments in the customize.js file you posted: It is my opinion that by including this example in their product documentation, Sun fosters an implicit expectation that it’s OK to use the example.
    In the example comments, Sun should include an explicit and “formatted in bold” disclaimer. The disclaimer should, at least, state Sun’s non-affiliation and a warning--"use this example at your own peril".
    The oversight to counter and dispel any such legally risky implicit expectation may lead to execution of the example and even incorporation into code, possibly resulting in great harm. Only after researching the URL will one discover the URL and URL owner are suspect--nothing can be found via Google or Whois, regarding the legitimate use of this URL as a public and secure Yahoo proxy for Yahoo contacts access. The questions are: “who within Sun decided this is a cool site and will make a good example…what do/did they know about the site…how did they find it…is it a Sun developer’s personal or on the side web site service?” I would love to know more about it and how Sun came up with it.
    Without answers, this leaves one to ponder “why did Sun use a suspect site URL, surely they wouldn’t reference a bad site…would they? There must be 1000’s of examples, with safe URLs, to demonstrate the target functionality; why would they facilitate such a potential compromise?” I trust Sun and I normally don’t think twice about following their direction and instructions. In a world full of deceit, leaders must take extra precaution to protect their followers.
    If this site does in fact perform any illegal activities with a user's Yahoo account and contact information as well as much more, since full access is being provided, then Sun will no doubt be party to a lawsuit and negative news. Removal of the example, a legal statement, or replacing the example with an example that utilizes the Yahoo published API, would go a long way towards resolving any potential problems, real or not, relating to this example.

  • Nexus Design Question

    Here's the scenario:
    We're working on a new DC design. Dual 6509VSS in core, dual Nexus 5k and 14 FEXs. The 2ks will be dual attached to the 5ks.
    Now, I read somewhere else that the 5k is limited to a maximum of 16 vPCs.
    So the question comes up... does that mean that the current design with a vPC to the core VSS, the peer vPC and all 14 vPCs to the FEX are topping us out?
    Also, all of the designs I've seen have only 2 5ks peering together. Can you have 3 or 4 5ks peer together?
    Thanks.

    I have to make the same design: VSS + 2x N5000. Currently i don't plan to connect the N5000 w. VPC upstream to C6500-VSS (i do plan VPC downstream). I plan to connect each N5000 individually to the VSS chassis with 2x 10G MEC. On the N5000, this is just a local portchannel. Since the connection between the N5000 is only used for VPC and is not considered as a real L2 link, there is no STP loop in this design.
    If the downsteam devices alternate their active/passive links between N5-1 and N5-2, both N5s will carry traffic.
    PS. i have more confidence in a simple portchannel. You don't want VPC problems (crash/early deployment problems) on the uplinks to VSS, basically isolating your datacenter or risking L2 loops.
    PPS. one remark i still have here is: on the N5K, you don't want to connect the uplinks towards VSS on adjacent ports using the same port-group. If the port-group ASIC fails, you will be blackholing traffic in the datacenter as the downstream interfaces will remain up. On C3750 switches, this is solved by Link State Tracking, however this is not supported on N5K, which i really regret. But Cisco says: we don't need Link State Tracking on N5K, as the N5K supports VPc to work around this....However, i feel this is not an excuse to not implement LinkStateTracking in N5K. VPc indeed is usefull if the upstream switches are L2 connected, however, if the upstreams are VSS switches a simple portchannel with link state tracking would suffice and have faster convergence....

    Geert

  • BGP convergence time

    Hello,
    Recently I have been experiencing some problems with BGP convergence taking longer then expected.
    I have 3 upstream peers, and for awhile I had the best one local pref'ed down, so that things were more balanced.
    I took away those local preference configurations, so that my ibgp routers (6) pretty much learn 250,000 routes from the 1 peer, and a very small amount of routes from the other 2, the 1 peer is just that well connected.
    If i soft shut down the peer that has all of the routes as the best path, convergence cane take from 3-4 minutes, and causes some destinations to be unreachable during those times. Prior to the change, when my routes were balanced because of filtering, where I may learn 100,000 routes from each peer etc, things converged much quicker.
    My question is, can Cisco routes just not handle pulling out 250,000 routes from 5-6 downstream ibgp peers quickly?
    I am running 6500s and 7600s with sup720, so I would think the reason is not bad hardware that can not handle it, i would just expect these routers to be able to handle full tables a bit better, when it comes to sending the remove messages to its downstream ibgp peers faster.
    Is there a way to make that go smoother, with maybe route reflectors? I have no used them before so am not to familar with how they work low level, just looking for ideas.
    Thanks.

    Hello Jason,
    >> If i soft shut down the peer that has all of the routes as the best path, convergence cane take from 3-4 minutes, and causes some destinations to be unreachable during those times. Prior to the change, when my routes were balanced because of filtering, where I may learn 100,000 routes from each peer etc, things converged much quicker.
    It takes times to install the new routes: now when the preferred peer for 250,000 routes fail all 250,000 routes have to be withdrawn for each prefix a new BGP best path has to be chosen and propagated.
    Each BGP update takes space in a BGP update packet and a BGP update packet has a maximum size.
    The protocol has its own dynamics and cannot convergence in zero seconds: the more best BGP paths change the more the protocol has to work.
    So what you see is the result of having preferred all the routes of a single peer: this can be a resonable choice but it is a worse case from the reduncancy point of view in comparison to having as best routes one third of prefixes via peer1, oner third via peer2, one third via peer3.
    BGP Route Reflector servers are a good tool for scalability, they are of limited help in reducing convergence time.
    Hope to help
    Giuseppe

  • Removing Forward menu option within MailFilterDialog in Convergence 1u3

    I followed the directions at the bottom of the following page:

I know I need to create the file <app_server_base>/domains/domain1/docroot/iwc_static/c11n/allDomain/js/widget/MailFilterDialog.js and put the following in <app_server_base>/domains/domain1/docroot/iwc_static/c11n/allDomain/js/customize.js:
    // Remove the Forward Message to menu item
    dojo.require("c11n.allDomain.js.widget.MailFilterDialog");but I am unsure of the code that goes into the MailFilterDialog.js file.
    Thanks,
    Jim

    Add the following to <app_server_base>/domains/domain1/docroot/iwc_static/c11n/allDomain/js/customize.js
    // Hide forward button in folder view
    dojo.require("c11n.allDomain.js.widget.MailOpenFolder");
    // Hide forward button in message view
    dojo.require("c11n.allDomain.js.widget.MailOpenMessage");Create the following two files:
    <app_server_base>/domains/domain1/docroot/iwc_static/c11n/allDomain/js/widget/MailOpenMessage.js
    dojo.provide("c11n.allDomain.js.widget.MailOpenMessage");
    dojo.require("iwc.widget.MailOpenMessage");
    dojo.require("dijit.form._FormWidget");
    dojo.declare("iwc.widget.MailOpenMessage", iwc.widget.MailOpenMessage,
                    buildRendering: function () {
                            this.inherited(arguments);
                            this["forwardButton"].domNode.style.display = "none";
                            console.debug("c11n: Hide Forward Button in Message View");
                    last: ""
    );<app_server_base>/domains/domain1/docroot/iwc_static/c11n/allDomain/js/widget/MailOpenFolder.js
    dojo.provide("c11n.allDomain.js.widget.MailOpenFolder");
    dojo.require("iwc.widget.MailOpenFolder");
    dojo.require("dijit.form._FormWidget");
    dojo.declare("iwc.widget.MailOpenFolder", iwc.widget.MailOpenFolder,
                    buildRendering: function () {
                            this.inherited(arguments);
                            this["forwardButton"].domNode.style.display = "none";
                            console.debug("c11n: Hide Forward Button in Folder View");

    I have logged the system but does not appaer calendar tab on sun convergence.What mechanism did you use to create the user (e.g. Delegated Administrator GUI)?
    What service package did you assign to the user e.g. mars, earth?
    Do you see the Calendar Tab for the user if you log into Communications Express?

  • [OSPF/LDP/PW Fast convergence] ASR9k/ME3800/ME3600

    Hello, Netpro:
    I'm having a bit of a problem with OSPF/LDP Pseudowire fast convergence.
    I have a test lab scenario with 2 ASR9000, 1 ME3800X and 1 ME3600X.
    They are connected in an L3 MPLS ring, like this:
    ME3800X---[a]---ASR1--[b]--ASR2---[c]---ME3600X
      |                                                                      |
      |--------------------------------[d]-----------------------|
    The MEs are connected back to back closing the loop.
    The ring is configured for: OSPF fast convergence timers, LDP session protection, MPLS LDP  sync and BFP for OSPF on all interfaces.
    For testing purposes I've configured a pseudowire between the MEs and forced the path via OSPF to go through the ASRs.
    My problem is that I do not get the same responses when breaking the ring in different places. For example: if I break the ring in (b) or (d) i get ~100ms loss (when breaking the d connection, I change OSPF so that the PW takes the direct route between MEs). If I break the ring in (a) or ( c ) I get ~ 500ms loss.
    Also for testing purposes, I ran a similar test but with regular L3 interfaces ( NO pseudowire) between MEs and for all scenarios i get 60-100ms. So, basically I'm assuming OSPF is converging like it's supposed to and the issue is within LDP.
    Any ideas?
    Regards,
    c.

    Yes, I did test traffic engineering, but there's a bug (on 3600/3800) that when a PW changes paths, it will stop passing traffic, so that part is stuck.
    Is there an OSPF problem with ASR? I didn't understand very well your comment
    My description of my scenario is just for simplicity purposes. The real question here is, what is going on between an IOS box and an XR box that when you cause a fault in between those 2, LDP recovers in 500ms and when you cause a fault in same-OS boxes, recovery is 100ms.
