Convergence Patch 145711-06 can't install - missing saveState

Currently running:
Convergence 2-4.01
Went to apply patch 145711-06 and it is failing as shown below:

The prepatch script exited with return code 1.
Patchadd is terminating.
I checked and I don't have a saveState file anywhere under my <iwc_base> directory. Is there a way I can recreate a saveState file so I can apply this patch? Or any other suggestions?

You may redo a init-config. Then a saveState file should be created. What I am wondering is, why there has not been created one in your initial init-config.
When doing it, be shure to have a file with all your config changes, which you can replay after reinitialization.

Single User mode has capabilities that are even more limited than run level 1.
Among those limitations are -- no network connectivity and no logins for users other than root.

Therefore I think your task for patching will require someone to be at the box while you do that maintenance.

Can't install - missing spfile

We are trying to install XE on a machine that used to have an Oracle client.
We have used deinstall, clened out folderws and the registry.
The XE installer runs without erros.
The DBF file are created.
When we try to start there is no SPFILE found.
We tryed copying an SPFILE from another server.
The database starts but then terminated with ORA-000472 among other errors.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

One way around a missing spfile is startup with a static parameter file specified, create the spfile, then a shutdown and "regular" startup will use the spfile going forward.
All non-default startup parameters are logged to the database alertlog when the database is started- if the database did get through a startup, grabbing all the text between the "System parameters with non-default values:" and "PMON started ... " (?) lines is a good start.
If you're looking at the alert log from another instance the control_files = parameter would probably need some adjustment. Open up your favourite text editor, paste in the lines, ensure control_files entry has the correct path/filename to the database controlfile and save it.
To startup with a static parameter file, create a new spfile, and bounce the instance to use the new spfile:
sqlplus /nolog
connect /as sysdba;
startup pfile='<path to parameter file>';
create spfile from pfile='<path to parameter file>';
shutdown immediate;
startup;
And you're done. The usual location and name for a static file is in the $ORACLE_HOME/dbs/init$ORACLE_SID.ora and an spfile is created in that same directory. To "back up" an spfile:
create pfile='<path to backup parameter file>' from spfile;

I am trying to download Adobe reader latest version and when I hit download a bar appears at the top of the screen telling me to install missing plugins but firefox states plugins up to date what can I do?

I am unable to download Adobe reader to update my system as I only have version 7 on my computer. Normally I would be able to download direct from Adobe and my system would update but when I try to download a message bar appears which states on the left hand side "additional plugins are required to display all the media on this page" and on the right hand side there is a button which states "install missing plugins". When I click on the button a dialog box appears which states "no suitable plugins where found with a message next to a manual install button "unknown plugin(application/getplusplusadobe16299)

You can try using this tool to first remove all traces of Reader from your computer:

Then, you can download the full offline Reader installer from

After downloading, restart your computer and run the installer before doing anything else.

Well I tried to repair apple update and some other apple prgs in uninstall in control panel. Went back to a restore point. BUT I think the key thing is that I took the courage to uninstall iTunes and then downloaded it again from apple's website and low and behold it had worked!!!!
So forget reinstalling DO a brand new instal as it has worked for me.

You found and hit the limitation of old software are unable to install on newer O/S. This is software limitation nothing Win8 can do to help you install a XP game or Program on Win8.

We have a customer with DB on windows-2003 64 bit with following homes.
At Server version:-
DB version is 10.2.0.4 patchset 5,
client1 is at 10.2.0.1.(patchset i am not sure)
Client2 is at 10.2.0.4 patchset 5.
Customer running some sqls which are taking more time from CLIENT2(10.2.0.4 patchset5) than CLIENT1(10.2.0.1). offcourse both CLIENTS connecting
same DB. we identified a bug(6350579). This bug was resolved in 10.2.0.4 patch 14(7677781).
Now my question is Can i apply this patch only at client side with out applying at DB level?
I mean i will create one more new client called CLINET3 (with 10.2.0.4 and i will install 10.2.0.4 patchset14) and then run the SQLs from new client CLIENT3. is this supported method or not?
Reason being customer does not want to install 10.2.0.4 patchset14 at DB since Customer is happy with DB performance.
We are getting problem only when we connect to DB from cleint 10.2.0.4 patchset5. if we connect to DB from Client 10.2.0.1, SQL performance is very good.
Please advise me on this.

You can upgrade your client with the latest patchset/bug fix (if you have tested it on some other machine and found that your issue has been resolved) but be prepared to handle any unusual errors that might arise due to this combination.
Personally, I never prefer having a client running at a higher version than the server but there are some situations where we need to and we need to make sure that, even though Oracle must have tested certain scenarios, we do not run into errors. So test, test and test before changing anything in production.

I tried to install a Intel Turbo Memory in my T400 (2767-PU6). However I found out something is missing.
The colored part is missing and I can't install the new pci-e card successfully. How can I do, or purchase the missing part?

If you got the Mac new before July 20, 2011, call AppleCare for the original discs.
If you got the Mac new before March 15, 2010, get the 10.6 retail installer disc from the http://store.apple.com/
If you got the Mac new after July 20, 2011, boot with command-R.
If you have no backup, get a data recovery tool as the hard drive may be failing if command-R doesn't work and the aforementioned solutions don't help.
If it doesn't work but have a backup, you may need to get a new hard drive, or repair the directory with a tool such as Alsoft Disk Warrior.

I would recommend that you attempt to reinstall all of the programs and components of iTunes on your machine and reinstall everything again. It can be tricky to get everything uninstalled, so we have an article that can help you make sure you uninstall everything:

after upgrading to windows 8.1. I can't install updates and patches of the creative cload programms. I'm able to uninstall programms. I'm able to install programms, but i cant't patche them. Got this message: "Installation erfolgreiche, aber Fehler beim Patch (U44M1I210). I've no idea what to try further more.

Error Code: U44M1I210 means failed to extract the downloaded ZIP file of update.
