Conversion from Outlook Express to Apple mail.

I just bought an IMac. Fine, but how do I transfer all my mail history and contacts from Outlook Express to Apple mail?
Rudolpf

Try using a search engine with the following: outlook express to apple mail
There are several programs that can do this for you.
On a 4 year old discussion, I read if you have the Outlook Express data file, you can directly import the data.

  • Garbled mails after importing from Outlook 2011 to Apple mail

I want to migrate from Outlook 2011 to Apple mail. I found 2 ways to do this:
Copy mail folder by mail folder to a Finder folder as .mbox files, and then importing them into Apple mail
creating an imap account on Outlook, synchronizing mails with the imap server, and then connecting from Apple mail to the same server, thereby re-importing mails to Apple mail
With both methods I have the same problem: some mails arrive completely garbled, below is an example. It seems that mostly HTML mails and mails with attachments are affected, but there are also some ordinary text mails which look weird. The strange thing is: they all look absolutely perfect in Outlook 2011!
I have migrated my mail file from every computer I had since about 12 years, first some PCs, and about 1.5 years ago to a Mac. My suspicion is that mails dating back to the "pre-Mac era" are affected, because the latest ones are all perfect. Any ideas?

Thank you Csound1, this is what I did. Bought EMailchemy (which costs 30$, not 20$), but which worked perfectly. I had to do some manual work, because the mails will be exported from Outlook, you have to import them folder by folder into Apple Mail and then move them over to the mail account, but now everythig is perfect. I can only recommend this product.
Sorry about the price error, didn' realize it had increased, but still the best $30 you'll spend

  • Can't import from OUTLOOK EXPRESS 5 to Mail

I was trying to import contacts and e-mails from OUTLOOK EXPRESS and somehow all my information seemed to be erased from OUTLOOK.
When I try to open it up it doesn't have all my emails and addresses. It's as if it just got installed. I don't know where to look for this info in my hard drive.
Called APPLE and they told me that it could be that it got corrupted and deleted.
I have years of information in there. Any suggestions?

    Outlook 5 -> Mail
You can't go directly from Outlook 5 to Mail but you can do Outlook 5 -> Entourage -> Mail and that works very well
Your mail in Outlook 5 (I am assuming you're running Outloook Express 5.x under OS 9.2.x) is in the MUD folder. You'll find it in Documents > Microsoft User Data > Identities > Main Identity
If the Main identity is empty do a search for "Main Identity" and see if there are any other folders of the same name
If you can't locate it, restore it from a backup, import it into Entourage and then into Mail

  • Can I import 5 years of email from Win Outlook Express to Apple Mail?

This looks like a large problem.
I'm trying to import 5 yrs worth of email, all categorized in sub-directories within the WIN version of Outlook Express 6, into the current version of Apple Mail.
Can this be done? If so, how?
While Outlook Express is listed on the import panel of Apple Mail, I believe it means the Mac version of OE from MS Office 4. I have that, but it's not installed.
Could I install it, somehow import the WIN OE 6 mail into that, and THEN import into Apple Mail?
Or is there (we live in hope) an easier way?
    1000 thanks!

You may use O2M, or you may import your mail into Thunderbird on the PC, then use Eudora Mailbox Cleaner to import that into Apple’s Mail.

  • Import email archives from Outlook .pst to Apple Mail

I'm (finally) switching everything over from Windows to Mac, and want to know the easiest way to transfer years of email archives (sent and saved) from an Outlook .pst file into Apple Mail. I'm not using Entourage, but I have it, if that's the best conduit, but in the end, I want to use Apple Mail.

O2M formally known as Outllook2Mac or I believe there is an add-on for Entourage from Microsoft that provides for importing Outlook .pst files.
After importing the .pst files into Entourage, you can use Mail's Import Mailboxes feature selecting Entourage as the email client to import mailboxes/messages from.

  • Transfer of e-mail (email) from Outlook Express for Apple to Windows XP?

This is a repeat of a thread which was removed from the forum because of a mistake on my part.
This was my original query:- In OS 9.2.2 OE stores messages in a format which OE for Windows XP does not recognise. Forwarding them to myself changes the sender and the date. Any suggestions?
I then received two responses which were both very helpful. The first was from "Simon Teale", who first suggested the need to find an intermediate host for my e-mail. In his next message he said in part:
Otherwise Eudora Light or Netscape sound promising. But before we even need to try that, can you drag individual messages from the OE on Mac to the desktop ? Then transfer them to the Windows PC, then drag them into the Inbox in OE for Windows. Just try two or three to begin with, one sent (if you keep copies of your sent email), one received and one with attachment. They may be imported and marked as unread.
I have now tried this but have not found that I could transfer messages to OE for Windows by dragging them.
The second response was from "eww" who wrote:
You may want to download and experiment with EmailChemy. I think you'll find that it can painlessly convert your OE for Mac files to a format that OE for Windoze can read or import directly.
I have now downloaded this program and am working with the demo version. I have not yet succeded but it claims to do what I need and I think it will once I have mastered its procedure.
    A further update will follow.

    Lynite,
I was really hoping that the 'drag' method would do the trick, it's certainly worked for me in the past, but I can't remember where I was exporting from. I do remember I was importing into OE for Mac OS9. Were you able to drag individual mail messages out onto the Mac desktop (or other folder) ? And then transfer them to the PC ? Was it just the dragging into the OE for Windows message window that didn't work. If I remember, I could only drag one message at a time.
In your original post, you listed the format that OE for Windows can import from. It was quite a long list, most of them being MS products. Could you put that list up again ?
Don't worry too much about the issue with the Apple discussions, it was having "issues" at the start of the week, I replied to a post which took 10 minutes to come back, at the end of which it has posted 7 copies of my reply.
Unfortunately, I don't have access to XP under Parallels emulation on my Mac Pro (2000 Pro, 98 SE and 95 I do have - setting those up from my Virtual PC disks was a horror story in itself), so I'm unable to dabble with the version of OE on Windows that you're running.

  • Can I import my emails from Outlook and  Outlook express backup to Mail

    Hi
I have saved a lot of my emails from when I was using PC, using Outlook. I have since just been using webmail.
I now want to import it into Mail, as I have an imac that I use all the time. Can this be done? If so how, and how easy is it?
Also is there a free way to do it, seen a few progs but have to pay for them.
    cheers

Ah i see, bit of a long winded way but if this is the only way then I'll have to.
I would have thought you ould go from Outlook/Outlook express to Apple mail straight away though?
Anyone else please? surely this must have been done when people became Apple Mac users? from PC users?

  • Moving emails from outlook express to mail

is there a way to get all of my old emails from outlook express to mail? My old PC is about to die and then I'll loose all of my emails :s that is why I am wondering if there is a solution, now.

I don't know whether you can do this on a PC version of Outlook Express or not, but I know that you can do stuff like this with Apple's Mail, so it may be worth a shot to try this and see if it works.
First off, I am assuming that all this old mail is a POP account, and not IMAP. If it were IMAP, it would all be safe on your email account provider's IMAP server and all you would have to do is create the new account in Apple Mail and the first time you connected, it would autosync with the server and all your old mail would just be there. But if POP, all mail is downloaded to your computer then deleted from the server. So, assuming this to be a POP account, here is what I would try to do if I were you.
    1. Go to http://webmail.aol.com and sign up for a new free IMAP email account from AOL. You could get a free gmail account if you wanted, too, but I believe there is a bit of extra configuration involved in making it a IMAP and not POP. AOL is IMAP by default. Plus, AOL is a built-in new-account setup option in Apple Mail.
    2. On the PC in Outlook Express, add a new account for your new AOL email account. See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/883081 to find out all the particulars about account settings and how to do it in Outlook Express.
    3. On the Mac in Apple Mail, as stated in #1 above, AOL Mail is one of the options when creating a new account. Just follow Mail's "new account wizard" to create your AOL account there.
    4. On the Mac, create a second new account for your existing POP account. Mirror the individual mail folder layout that are on your old PC for the old POP account.
    5. This is the part that I don't know if PC Outlook Express will let you do, but I know that Apple Mail does:
    (a) Open each of your mail folders in the old POP account stored on your dying hard drive one at a time
    (b) Highlight/select all the messages in that folder
    (c) Drag them to the AOL inbox. In Apple Mail, they would be copied to the IMAP server, preserving all the original "From" and "Date Received" and other information like that.
    6. On the Mac, drag the messages that you uploaded into the AOL inbox and drop them into the appropriate folder of the "legacy" POP account that you created in #4. That will clear them out of the AOL inbox and they will now be stored on your computer as downloaded popmails.
    7. Go back to step #5 and repeat this process for each of your folders on the old PC until you have emptied all the messages off your old computer.
Now, I will have to issue a disclaimer that I have only done this myself from IMAP to IMAP and to/from IMAP from/to "On My Mac" folders, which keeps copies of messages locally but not on IMAP servers. So I have no reason to suspect that this would not apply equally to POP since it worked with "On My Mac" folders. And whether the PC's Outlook Express will support the POP-to-IMAP drag-and-drop is a total unknown to me.
I'm sure I'll hear back via this forum whether this worked or not, but it's the best idea that I can come up with, and like I said, a similar (but not identical) situation worked for me before.

  • Transfer mail from Outlook express 6 on Windows XP to Mail on iMac

I want to transfer mail from Outlook express 6 running under Windows XP to Mail on a Macbook Pro running Tiger.
I have a network set up and can access the outlook identities, but neither Entourage nor Mail will recognise the entities when I try to use the import function. I suppose they are looking for outlook express 5 which runs on Mac OS 9.
Is there a way to do this. I would think that if Apple is keen for people to move over to Mac, this would be an area which will be a concern to a lot of people.
    Thanks

  • Importing mail from Outlook Express to Mail

I firewired my old Outlook Express program over from my iBook, which runs on OS 9.1, to my new Powerbook, but when I run the program in the classic environment it doesn't access the Messages cache. Instead, it shows no messages in the inbox, which means I have no way of importing all the old messages and the old address book from Express to Mail. Does anyone know how I might do this? Thanks.

I spent about 10 hours on this forum trying to find out how to export mail from MS Outlook on OS 9 and import the mail into Apple Mail OS X. I found a few threads with no specifics and I found a few knowledge base articles and finally succeeded. So here is the step by step workflow for anyone who needs to do the same:
1] On your old OS 9 Mac, locate the folder called Microsoft User Data -> Identities
2] Copy the Identities folder to your new OS X Mac (put in on the desktop temporarily)
3] Install OS 9 from your system disk on the new OS X Mac if it's not already installed
4] On your OS X Mac, go to OS 9 Applications, find MS Outlook and run the program. After it launches, quit the program (this is to create some needed files in your home directory)
5] On your OS X computer, go to your Home -> Documents -> Microsoft User Data, and trash the Identities folder
6] Drag the Identites folder that you put on the desktop (the one from the OS 9 Mac) and put drop it Home -> Documents -> Microsoft User Data (replacing the identities you just trashed)
7] Go back into OS 9 Applications (on your OS X Mac) and once again launch MS Outlook - you should now see all your mail in your inbox and sent items
    8] Quit MS Outlook
9] Launch Apple Mail and use the FILE -> IMPORT MAILBOX function to begin the import process - follow the prompts
    Good luck

  • Can't import emails from outlook express into mail

Just bought a macbook, I'm new into MAC, I'm a MAC ROOKIE. I'm trying to import my email from my microsoft outlook express to my MAC MAIL, I followed the instructions to import from outlook but when I locate the outlook files for my emails (they have extension .dbx but it won't let me select the files. Besides in the outlook folder there are dozens of files (1 per email subfolder). What am I doing wrong that I can't import the emails, nor the address book?
    Thxs!!!
    Avecesar

Pay attention to the information Mail displays during the import process. It could be that it wants you to select the folder that contains the files to be imported, rather than the files themselves.
EDITED: Now that I've read your post again, I don't think you're going to be able to do this on your MacBook, as importing from Outlook Express requires that application to be running in the "Classic" environment, which isn't available for Intel-based Macs.
Disclaimer: I know next to nothing about how importing from Outlook Express is supposed to work, so take what I say with a grain of salt.
