Conversion from Word adds characters to a StyleRef field

When converting a Word 2003 document to PDF format using Adobe Writer 8, some extra characters are added to a StyleRef field in the header.
The extra characters look like a number sequence: 0B, 9B, 10B, 11B...). There are two StyleRef fields in the header, but only the second one is affected.

I have additional documents, spreadsheets etc embedded into a Microsoft Office Word document. When this document is converted to the PDF (using the Word PDF add-in interface) the embedded objects can no longer be opened and only appear as images.
Is there a way to retain the embedded document during the conversion so that they can be opened from within the resulting PDF?
    Thanks in advance!

Thanks very much for your repsonse, it's much appreciated
I don't have Acrobat X installed at this time so am not able to create or edit PDFs (other than from Word).  I understand that creating a PDF from Word may not be an Acobat issue per se, but thought that someone on this forum may have experienced a similar problem, hence thought I'd try my luck here
I will do as you suggest and try an MS forum

  • Conversion from Word 2003 changed format

Converted a manuscript from Word 2003 to PDF. The PDF changed the format/margins slightly, resulting in different pagination. How do I work around that?

Most likely what has happened is that the PDF printer resolution is different than your default printer. While you are editing the DOC file, change the printer to the Adobe PDF printer and go through the WORD file to get the pages the way you want. Then the resultant PDF should be the same. WORD usually reflows and document to best flow for the selected printer. So if you change the printer before you print (or select PDF Maker), then WORD reformats the document for output. This is the difference between a word processor and a layout program.

  • Strange bug: Acrobat 9 deletes words upon conversion from Word doc

Situation: converting from MS Word 2007 (SP2) to Acrobat 9 Standard (v 9.2.0) in WinXP.
I've tried this repeatedly. The first word in multiple headings disappear when converted to PDF (they remain in the Word doc, but don't exist in the PDF that was produced from the doc).
Example: "Correlation Analysis" becomes " Analysis".  This is happening to the text of every "Heading 2" style heading. All the other headings are unaffected.  Does anyone know why this is happening?
This is insidious because we assume that the finished doc matches the original one. So now I have to also proof the Adobe conversion for unexpected deleted words?
In the meatime, I'll return to Adobe 8 to do these conversions.

I see a similar problem being reported in this posting:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/2370280
    No resolution there either.
Regarding your suspicion that it may be related to Word, what contradicts that is the fact that the full text of the header appears in the resulting PDF bookmark!!  However, the first word of the text is missing from the heading in the PDF (though it remains in the source Word doc).
Also, I am NOT referring to the page header or footer.  I'm referring the text heading in the body of the document. In my case, only the "Header 2" styled headings are affected.

  • PDF conversion from Word - WMF display

I have created a PDF from a word document. It has WMFs inserted in the document using BuildBetter WMF.  The document displays correctly in word.  I have used the preset of "high quality" on the PDF conversion.  The document print quality is correct but I am having difficulty seeing the WMF drawing when displayed on the computer.  If I zoom in I can see the drawing fine.  Obviously it is a pixel problem.  How can I fix this?

You should be able to print to the Adobe PDF printer, but nothing else probably will work with OFFICE 2010 as Adobe told you. You probably can just wait until AA10. There are no current expectations of AA9 being updated to work with OFFICE 2010 (at least the PDF Maker part.).

  • Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro adding a blank page on conversion from Word 2010

Hi, I'm hoping someone here can help.  I'm converting a Word 2010 document to PDF using Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro (version 9.5.4).  On conversion to PDF, a blank page is being added, throwing the entire report off.  In word, there is a Section Break (Next Page) at the end of the first page, and the text continues on the second.  On conversion, it is after this section break that the blank page apears (i.e., between pages 1 and 2 of the document).  I've been back and forth through the document, tried to use a Continuous Section Break instead (Word just converts it to a page break again), making sure there's only one break, etc., and cannot for the life of me figure out how to fix this problem.  Any ideas?
    Thanks

    Thanks a lot in advance

    Dimitris,
I know you originally posted this question on the general FrameMaker forum. I suggest below that you post a follow-up question there.
The structure-based part of the issue is that neither a conversion table nor an EDD can change properties of an existing anchored frame. It seems that when you open your Word document in FrameMaker, the graphics come in positioned at the insertion point. That doesn't change when you apply the conversion table. Your EDD does specify object style FiguredCentered as the initial format for GRAPHIC elements. The keyword here is "initial". The EDD can indicate a style for new anchored frames that are created by inserting an element. It does not allow you to change existing anchored frames.
So the real problem is how to make a global change to all existing anchored frames (either assigning an object style or changing the position to Below Current Line) so that you don't have to change them one at a time. I am not aware of a way to do so with existing FrameMaker commands. You could use a script or plug-in, or save the document as MIF and make a global change with a text editor in the MIF file. You might ask on the general FrameMaker forum if someone there knows an easier approach.

  • Slow conversion from Word 2003

I have a 125-page Word 2003 document with lots of tables and hundreds of bookmarks. Converting this to PDF takes about a half hour, with one of my processors pegged at 100%, and that's if I turn off tagging. Is this performance normal?

Good thoughts. I was able to print directly to PDF and it took only about 5 minutes, but of course I lost all my bookmarks, which are crucial. After that, with the Adobe PDF still selected as my printer, I again used the "save to pdf" option. Still, it repaginated my document many times at the start of the conversion process. During the "scanning for bookmarks" phase, it appeared to be repaginating my whole document for each bookmark (107 times!) But this still only took a few minutes. The lengthy part seems to be after that, where I can't really tell what it's doing because neither the Word window nor the Acrobat PDFMaker progress dialog gets refreshed. However I get glimpses of "repagination" messages flashing by at the bottom of my Word window every second or two (hundreds of these) with the scroll bar slider bopping around all over the place, constantly.
I'll accept this rotten performance if it's normal, but if I can do anything about it, it would be nice.

Is there a monthly subscription service to Acrobat XI PRO so that I could convert a Word document with
text, graphs, and photos into PDF/X-1a or PDF/X-3?  None of the subscription services that I saw expressly
state the type of conversion except to say its to PDF.  Why is this so hard for sales and Customer Service

You can subscribe to Acrobat XI Pro via Creative Cloud, or as a standalone application.

  • Conversion from Word to PDF is unreadable to others

I have had this problem a couple of times:
I save a word 2007 document as a 97-2003 doc and then convert to pdf using the print command.
When I email this to others, sometimes the words are "jibberish" as one person told me and sometimes the page looks cut off as another person has told me.
I do not see any of these issues when I preview the documents or open the documents.
These have been just text documents and some documents may have basic jpg images.
Went to the Microsoft Word Forum and it was suggested that I go to this forum for assistance.
The version of Acrobat is Professional 8.0.
Attached is the last document that I emailed to someone and they could not read it.
    Can anyone help?

  • PDF conversion from Word 2010 incredibly slow and loses format

Just moved onto new laptop with Windows 7 Word 2010

It appears that it is imbedded properly in the preferences menu. Has anyone had this happen or does anyone have any suggestions?

Hello, hereby a snapshot of the Word doc & the result as pdf as shown in Adobe Acrobat Pro XI. (In Acrobat reader it shows ok) . Depending on how I convert to pdf I get different results. Sometimes a completely coloured page, a blank page or with only the coloured line showing.

  • Controlling Image Conversion quality from Word to RoboHelp 8

I cannot find settings that will control image quality when converting Word documents to online help files by means of RoboHelp.
My problem is that screen captures, which were inserted as PNG or bitmaps, are reproduced with what looks like GIF or JPEG quality in the online help. I want better quality.
I read that for Famemaker, there are image conversion settings that enable one to preserve full, lossless (screen) resolution during the conversion.
Is there a way to do this for conversion from Word 2007 documents to RoboHelp 8?
    If not, perhaps RoboHelp 9?
    Much obliged.

I am importing the Word documents into RoboHelp HTML version 7.0.  I did the following  experiment:
I imported a document with images containing vector text (the images are in Microsoft Office Object format) from Word 2007 to RoboHelp HTML 7.0, I got poor quality (badly formed text / aliasing). I presume this comes from the rendering and compression performed by the import function. I also saw JPEG artifacts in the raster (screen captures) images of the kind visible at very high compression ratios and which were not visible in the original.
When I insert the very same images, saved as PNG format at screen resolution, directly into RoboHelp HTML 7.0, I get good quality.
It seems that the Import from Word function is rendering and converting the images to a compressed format without preserving sufficient quality.
    My questions are:
Is there a preferred format for the embedded images in Word for better import to RoboHelp, especially when the images contain (vector) text?
Are there accessible configuration parameters for the Import from Word function, that can control the rendering, and/or the quality level of JPEG compression, and/or give a choice between compressed and uncompressed images.
How can I access those parameters?
    Thanks!
