Conversion old blog from Blogger to iWeb

I have an old blog that I created in 2006 on the blogger.com site. I have not updated it since then but I would like to move it into my web site created with iWeb. I used the Blogger export process to download the blog. It saved on my computer as a .xml file. Now what? IWeb doesn't see the xml file.

There is nothing that you can do except re-create your blog in iWeb. iWeb has no import facility so cannot open your Blogger files. Either this or you can create a link from your iWeb site to your blog.
No other options here.

Since problems with iWeb's Blog feature are a recurring theme on these forums, I'm curious to know the reason why you are moving your blog to iWeb.
With iWeb's blog, you can sometimes lose comments:
"I had quite a few comments on my blog that have suddenly disappeared when I last published. Next time I opened iWeb they were there again, so I tried publishing again, they did not show up on the blog and consequently disappeared from iWeb too? Is there any way to get these back?"
...and be unable to post comments via web.mac.com URL:
"My web site works great except for the comments. No one can leave comments on my site. it comes up saying were are having trouble processing your request."
...and you are occasionally required to +Publish All+ — which, if your blog is large, can be time-consuming.
Web-based blogging systems tend to be more robust than iWeb's and add new features throughout the year — not just annually. WordPress has a lot of new options for configuring the different screens and adjusting the layout. If you'd prefer something simpler, there's Posterous, which can accept blog posts (including images) via email. Also note that you can hyperlink to any web-based blog from your iWeb site.

  • Importing iWeb Blog to Blogger

It seems impossible to export my iWeb Blog feed and then import it to Blogger... are there any work arounds? iWeb has limitations that aren't good for the blog set up. I'd like to use it for something else and move my blog to blogger. Thanks in advance.

If you want to be able to transfer your blog comments from MobileMe to another blogging platform, there is more support for doing this via the Wordpress blog.

  • Backup my Blog from iweb?

I use iweb 2.0 for my blog and I am considering switching to a more custom site using RapidWeaver and my only issue is loosing my blog from the last year. So Is there a way to back this up or save this somewhere like a blogger account? I have RSS enabled, but I cant figure out how to do this. I was hoping I could have it RSS fed into something public like a blogger.com account. Could I save it as an xml and maybe do something with that? im really at a loss as to what to do.

  • Publish iWeb blog from Windows

Hello everyone. I just created a blog in iWeb and publish it on an FTP server, but the blog will be managed by a friend and I, and my friend uses Windows. I want to know if there is any way for my friend to post on the blog from Windows.
    Thank you.

Frankly, there must a way around this. Granted, there's no chance your friend on the PC can run iWeb, but all iWeb does (assuming you're using a local folder and not MobileMe) is edit the html and xml files. In theory, if your friend can edit these files from afar and update your files with newer versions, there stands no reason that this shouldn't work.
Come to think of it, you could use DropBox. Saving your site to a local folder in your DropBox folder (my website, for example, uses this trick), you can give your friend the authorization to access the folder, which only requires an internet connection to access. From there, he or she may be able to edit the code (adding a new post, for example) and saving the changed documents in the DropBox folder. You can use whatever FTP program you like to upload your website from said local folder.
Does any of that make sense? I'm facing similar problems, trying to give non-Mac authors access to post on my iWeb-constructed website.

  • IWeb blogging from mobile devices

I know this has been discussed before, but I think that the arrival of the iPad means that it's time to push it to the front again:
I have a personal homepage that has been created with iWeb on a Mac and is stored on my MobileMe account. This homepage contains a blog, which I usually use when I travel (instead of sending postcards). I used to take my MBP with me when traveling, but will probably switch to the iPad now. Unfortunately, this means that I have to switch the blog for a Wordpress based one, since there still is no way I can blog in iWeb/MobileMe from any other place than my MBP.
Apple: For a "Mobile" company that is a bit embarrassing. Since there already are apps that directly access content on MobileMe, I cannot imagine what the difficulty can be in creating a simple app people could use to blog from the iPhone or iPad. So, please, provide us with such an app and spare us the bag of pain that including a Wordpress blog in iWeb is.
Maybe, if a few people support this request, Apple could spare somebody who could probably program such an app within a few days.

    Welcome to the discussions.

You can link to an external blog from iWeb's navigation bar:
Create a blank internal page titled "Blog" (actually you can name the page whatever you want.) Then in that Blog page add an HTML Snippet with the following code:
    <script type="text/javascript">
parent.window.location = "http://www.yourblogname.com"; // change this to your own URL
    </script>
...Once published, clicking on "Blog" in the navbar will immediately redirect to your external Blog page. (Thanks to Cyclosaurus for the code).

  • Posting to an iWeb blog from an iPhone

I'm about to do a big charity walk (Wainwright's Coast to Coast). I'd like to post to a blog on my iWeb website. Can someone tell me if I can do this easily and how please? Many thanks Ian Smith

I think you need to ask in the iWeb forum, or find some people who really use iWeb blogs. My sense is that the iWeb platform is pretty limited, but I don't really know.
I'm pretty sure there is no iWeb app for the iPhone. Ask Apple for one here:
    http://apple.com/feedback
So one question is--does iWeb let you use the XML-RPC protocol that seems to be the standard for blogging clients? Or some other standard? If so, presumably an iPhone blog client like this could be set up:
    http://appshopper.com/social-networking/iblogger
but you need some people who know iWeb to help you figure out what the settings would be.
Or maybe iWeb has a Post-by-Email capability? Again, ask iWeb experts.
If iWeb doesn't support any of those, you could certainly set up a WordPress.com blog or something--they have both post-by-email and a blogging app. Or Blogger/Blogspot or any major blogging platform. Maybe iWeb has the ability to show an RSS feed on your iWeb blog, so that it would show links to the WP.com posts that you make.
A charity walk sounds made for Twitter, though, if you ask me.

  • Import from idisk / blog from 2 macs

Greetings helpful and smart people. I see that this has been covered from a few angles, none of which I see have happy endings. Hopefully my question will be simpler.
I want to manage my blog from 2 computers. I've managed to download my iweb folder from my idisk. I made a junk iweb file and saved it. I can't see anything that looks like what the contents of that idisk downloaded folder looks like.
I'd like to be able to put that data in an appropriate spot, and have that blog show up in this 2nd computer's iWeb program.
Can anybody help with where that stuff goes?
    Thanks in advance

    Preciate it Ethmoid.
I figured something like that was in the wind. It's a bummer I can't do anything now with the blog ( blackhorseanddogblog.com ) since me and the new macbook are in Houston, and the goofy "domain" iWeb file is on my NASA mac-pro in Alaska.
The solution appears to be suck the domain file over to the macbook before I leave town. Should have done it on a jump drive before I left, then I could iblog on my old G3 laptop in Houston, and now on the new guy. Course I just started learning iWeb days before I left...
Live and learn. I learnt, you taught. Thanks.
Might switch to a web based bloger. Maybe I could do iBlogging, and suck the contents into a web based blogger so I could ramble from a still different computer??

  • Tutorial: Integrating Blogger into iWeb

I hate how you have to be at your home computer to do any changes to your website or even post something to your blog, so using blogger I figured out a neat little trick I thought might be of some use.
Create your website like you normally would in iWeb, and go ahead and create a news/blog page, just leave it blank. You want to create the page so that in ieb you can go ahead and make links to it from your other pages. Publish your site.
Next sign up for a blogger account and start blogging. When you are done, publish your site through ftp, with the same title as your iweb page (usually blog.html or in my case news.html) Make sure to publish to the right folder on your website. Also don't use index.html, this is generally reserved for the first page a visitor sees and will write over your website. It may take some time to figure out just what to enter into the ftp form. Publish your blog and voila.
The layout will not be the same as your iweb layout unfortunately, but you can link back and forth between the two and can update your blog from anywhere.
If anyone knows how to copy the layout from blogger and incorporate it into iweb, please let me know.

  • Can't post to Blog from iOS

I set up a blog using iWeb on my iMac with the intention of posting pics and text while abroad on vacation. Since I plan to travel without my laptop, taking only my iPhone and iPad, I hoped to be able to post comments and attachments to the blog remotely. In testing it out it worked fine when posting comments and pics using Safari on my laptop. But when I tried to do the same thing using Safari on my iPhone and iPad, everything worked except the attach photos function. The button to do that is grayed out. So I can post text comments to my iWeb blog from abroad, but not any photos I take. Any idea why that is? Plan B is to set up a photo gallery on my MobileMe account and post photos from my iPhone to it. Hopefully there is some way to put long captions under the photos to act as my blog text.

Just purchased imovie. Created 1:05 minute trailer and get the "Failed to upload to Youtube" message all 5 times I've tried, why? I have over 70 videos on my youtube channel so I know how to operate it.
    Repair or Refund?
    Thanks for help anyone.

  • Any way to add a link FROM HomePage TO iWeb?

Any way to add a link FROM HomePage TO iWeb? The instruction I found in Help only discussed adding a link from iWeb to HomePage. Since most of my family already accesses my HomePage, I'd like to be able to add a link to the iWeb pages
This is the only instruction I've been able to find in connection with this topic: "If you’ve previously published webpages using HomePage, those pages are still available at http://homepage.mac.com/YourMemberName. Websites you create in iWeb are available at http://web.mac.com/YourMemberName/iweb/SiteName. If you’ve created webpages using the .Mac HomePage feature, you can put a link to your old homepage on the first page of your new iWeb site. On your iDisk, your HomePage sites are stored in the Sites folder. Your iWeb sites are in the Web folder."
    Thanks
I use both my Mac and my Dell

I'll try this, but why in the world should it be so complex? I'll let you know if it works. but how do we tell Apple/Mac that this shouldn't be rocket science, but rather something that's done with the click of a button. They're both .mac software products. Why can't they talk to each other?

  • Transfer from .Mac to iWeb

My iWeb websites were deleted when I switched to my new iMac.
However, the websites are published still on .Mac.
Does anyone know if you can export/transfer your webpages from .Mac to iWeb so that I can edit them ?
    Or, am I outta luck,
    Avo

    Hi Avo,
Hate to be the one to tell you this but no, you can't transfer anything from .Mac or any other server back into the iWeb application. You will have to rebuild the sites, copying and pasting wherever you can.
For the future, iWeb puts your site data into a single Domain file kept in your Home folder Library, Application Support>iWeb>Domain. Back up this file often to a trustworthy location.
Sorry for the bad news; depending on the nature of your sites, creating a new site and linking back to the old might be something to consider.

  • Putting link in old Mac homepage to new iWeb page

Hi there is there anyway of putting a link in my old mac.com homepage that would link to my new iWeb page?
    Thanks
    Gareth

Are you replacing the old homepage site with a new iWeb one or keeping it and just linking? If it's the later you would have to do some html editing since the homepage sites are no longer editable online like they once were. The code would look something like this:
    TEXT
Go to your iDisk/Sites folder and locate the old site's folder. In it will be the html file for the first page. Open it with a text/html editor like the free TextWrangler, locate where you want to have the link appear and add the code above.
Replace the URL with the URL of your new site and replace TEXT with whatever you want to appear, like "Click here to go to the new site", etc.
Let me know if you plan on replacing the old site with the new iWeb site and want a redirect link to automatically send visitors from the old site to the new one.

  • I was able copy the hardrive of my old macbook from "My Passport" onto the desktop on an older iMac. but i dont know how to make my hardrive and user name be the main one since someone had used it in the past and had their info on the comp. please help!

I recently broke my 2008 macbook. i was able to use an external hardrive to back up my data onto My Passport. I was going to buy a new computer but a friend told me sher had an older version of the iMac. (not sure how old but it doesnt have a camera if that helps) i was able to hook it up and turn it on but i ran into a few problems. 1) the "authentic" user or whatever it says is someone who previously used the computer. i added me as a user but im not sure how to make me the main user. 2) after hooking up My Passport, i was able to drag my files and copy them to the desktop.(i think i did it correctly) now, i dont know how to make my hard drive and applications and iformation the "main " info. The current apps on the iMac are super old versions of iTunes and iPhoto and such. 3) while trying to open the apps from my macbook on the iMac, it said it didnt have the right software to open these apps.
I am so computer illiterate so someone please help!!! Also, i do not have internet in my new apartment yet so if there is a way to make this happen without using the internet that would be preferred. sorry for the horrible spelling and poorly written paragraph.
    THANK YOU!!

You are not going to be able to run your old system from the backup on this old computer as the hardware is incompatible.
You need to get a new computer or a refurbished one.

  • HT5361 I want to permanently remove years old emails from my IMac Mountain Lion system.  How can I do this by year instead of laboriously doing it one message at a time?

I want to permanently remove years old emails from my IMac Mountain Lion system.  How can I do so by year rather than slowly removing one message at a time?  Many thanks.

Another option is to create a smart mailbox that includes emails with date received before a desired date.
Then, select one message in the Smart Mailbox and cmd-A to select all. Then delete.
