Conversion server for CATIA V5

Hi,
is it mandatory to install a conversion server along with SAP PLM 7.01. I understand the conversion server is used for converting CAD specific files to neutral formats like RH / STEP / IGES. These files (*.RH) can then be used for the CAD viewer in PLM document (SAP PLM 7.01).
Can't the CAD files (*.catprt / autocad files/ solidworks files) be directly visualised using the RH viewer.
Is there any official site which mentions file formats to be used directly with RH viewer (without conversion server)

Conversion Server Specification

We intend to use SEAL solutions for file conversion into RH. We understand we would need a conversion server for this. But not sure what configuration/specification this conversion server should possess. Any info on this??

Conversion Engine is 80% basis set up. They will be able to size it and set it up based on some data you give such as required availability, Number of documents to be converted on a daily basis, Types of documents to be converted, (Example Word to PDF, CAD files to RH like you requirement), etc keep in mind that you have to purchase additional licenses for each converter.
On your end there will be some configuration required such as at what status do you want to trigger the conversion, etc, if you are hiring SEAL consultants to set it up they can do it for you as well. They also provide the required documentation.

Content Conversion Server

Where does Content Conversion Server fit in? Is it required to be installed first before you install any of the other components? (Records Management, UCM, etc.)
If you purchase UCM is Content Conversion Server included as well?

Content Conversion Server is next generation Inbound Refinery (if you are familiar with that). It can run alone and it communicates to the content server through the provider interface. It is not required for UCM to install correctly. However, if you want thumbnailing, PDF Conversion, XML, TIFF, and the DAM conversion capabilities you need it.
Inbound Refinery does come with UCM but must be run on the same licensed CPU as UCM. This may be OK for test or dev instances but is not recommended for production. Therefore Content Conversion Server is able to be licensed separately from the other ECM software so it can run on / in its own environment.

Lumira Server for BI Platform and Team/Edge consumption & licensing question

Hi. I have a few questions.
Question 1:
From my reading, I've heard that Lumira Edge/Team server may not be a part of BI-Suite License. I read a Lumira Server ASUG Webcast recap by Tammy Powlas here (SAP Lumira Server for Teams Roadmap ASUG Webcast) over the weekend and one of the Q&A questions struck me:
Q: Is this included with the BI Suite license from SAP?
A: Lumira Server for Teams (Edge Edition) is not covered under BI Suite License. However, Lumira Server for BI Platform (RTC Planned in April) is covered under BI Suite licenses
In a separate conversation late 2014, I thought I'd heard that Lumira Team/Edge server was supposed to be usable by BI Suite licensed customers, but it sounds like I'm mistaken?

Is this slide to imply that the version without HANA (or HANA XS) for BI Platform will only really just serve as a user rights management and Lumira document repository? And that if I want to view a Lumira document, I must still open from the Lumira Desktop client?
It was suggested I start a new discussion thread to ask this licensing question about a product that's not out yet (but the slide says it's GA so I'm still confused) so here I am with my discussion thread!
Hopefully someone can make me less confused. I'm hoping the answer is as a BI-Suite customer that we do not have to make a decision to either invest in new Edge/Team licenses or buy HANA XS hardware to establish a beachhead of Lumira usage in our organization. We've been struggling with promoting Lumira and the sharing piece has been the sore spot.

Final Cut Server for audio assets?

Hi all,
Anyone have thoughts on using Final Cut Server for managing audio projects? I can see games programmers also needing it big time but can't see much info on how FC Studio handles audio assets. As for managing all material for an album...

We are currently using it as a Photo/Video database.
I've only put about 3000 images/clips in there so far
but it seems to be working well.
We are running it on a old Quad G5 and have some
custom conversions set up for adding images and
videos.
Our Web team can take our videos and in two clicks
have a WMV and FLV video for their sites and then
select a few images and do a quick convert to web
sized imges..all within FCS
It would be nice to see a open architecture with plugin support
and more file compatibility, but for now it works great
as a database for images and video.

Activate the Content Server for purchasing

Hello,
I want to activate Content Server for PR/PO/RFQ?RFQ/SES/GR/SA/Contract.
Followed the below mentioned step:
1. Configured the "Content Server" using transaction OAC0
2. Created new document class using t-code OAD2
3. Created / Activated new document type and associate the document class (T-code OAC2)
4. Link Object type / Document Type / Content Repository and Link table (t-code OAC3)
But still unable to see the "Store Business Document" navigator enabled in the Services for Object icon for PO (ME21N/ME22N/ME23N)
Can anybody tell me if some thing i've missed out here?

We do not use SapDB or MaxDB to store the document on the content server, we store the documents directly in the file system.
Our Content servers run on win2003 servers.
In my company we've currently got 15 different content servers in 10 countries.
We've got one content server and one cache server at each location for one SAP system. One physical server has 2 content servers and 1 cache server. One for our SAP production system and one for our SAP Quality test system. They use the same cache server (first we created 2 cache servers, but it was not possible for SAP to destuingish between the two, so both cache servers got used by both SAP systems)
We have also implemented a couple of add-ons:
1. Conversion and viewserver (by Seal AG). conversion server converts office documents to pdf when documents are released. Currently use only 2 conversion servers, planning to increase when the volume gets larger.
Viewserver adds stamps on pdf-files when you view or print a document.
2. Document Distribution Manager (by CENIT AG). Makes it easy to schedule prefill of cache. Also possible to move documents from one storage category to another. And Rules for transfering documents from one site to another can be made (Ex. "not allowed to move files larger than 20 MB between <certain> sites")
Perhaps I could be of assistance?
BUT, anyway, the reason I post this is because I have problems upgrading my CS630 (lvl15) to CS640 (lvl6).
Asked SAP via an OSS, and they said it was like a regular patching (stop webservice, copy *.dll files, and restart webservice). But when I try this, I can't get contact with the content server via CSADMIN in SAP. I get "HTTP error: 500 Internal Server Error"

Does anyone know if you can use a 11g conversion server and 11g DAM with a 10g content server?

SAP Conversion Agent for PI 7.1 EHP 1 and Windows 2008 Support

I have read that some people were able to run SAP Conversion Agent on a PI 7.1 EHP1 Installation on Windows 2008 Sever. But in the Product Availability Matrix there is no support for 2008 yet.
In the SAP Library (http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwpi71/helpdata/en/43/fc39c16bfb025ee10000000a1553f7/frameset.htm) under the release notes for SAP Conversion Agent there is still version 8.5, but when I install the actual Support Package I have Conversion Agent 8.6 running and according to information on the informatica.com site this version is running under 2008!
Has anybody clear and actual information about which OS the newest SAP Conversion Agent for PI 7.1 EHP1 supports? Or has anyone experiance on Conversion Agent and Windows 2008 Server?

Thanks for your reply! Fact is that in the actual Package (SP06) the version of Conversion Agent Engine supplied is not 8.5.5 as in the SAP Note mentioned, it is version 8.6.0:

OCS 9.0.4.1 installed on three machines: infrastructure and storage on the first SPARC Solaris 9, midletier on the second SPARC Solaris 9, and Voice Conversion and Document Conversion Servers version 2.0.4.2.0 on the Windows 2000 Server. Dialogic card D/41h is installed on Windows machine with Dialogic drivers SR5.1.1. Dialogic tests run successfully.
Dialogic card is connected to one PSTN analog line. Dialogic card is enabled manually (as recommended).
"imtctl runtests" result for voiceconvtest is "false" and for docconvtest is "true". Document conversion works. Voice conversion fails.
"imtctl getmonitorstats" on machine with conversion servers shows:
"voiceconv available - true
T1-line-status - false
In-use-channels - 0
Idle-channels - 0
Bad-channels - 0 "
Then, if I try to enable voice streaming or record voice stream and push "connect" button, I get a message "Connection failed: An unknown error occurred while connecting to the voice streaming service". After that, I found the following exception message in "Monitor -> Conference details" log in administrator web interface:

This exception message is presented just after "dialin-status - dialing" message in log.
InstanceLocation parameter values on both midtier and voice conversion servers are the same.
Bouncing midtier and voice conversion servers gives no results.
Please help me to understand what's wrong and what do I need to set up to get correctly operating Voice Conversion Server.

I do not belive the you could run it without hacks. VMware peratty well isolate/subsitute the environment. What differs MAC from a PC is the BIOS. OS X just makes some calls into EFI/NVRAM to check if it run on accepted hardware. VMware hacks to run OS X are to boot from special EFI which pretend MAC. In other words VMware emulate only PC virtual machine, I have never heard of MAC virutal machine for any virtualization software.

Netwearver WAS version 640 of the content server for PLM DMS

We have SAP R/3 4.7 version & have implemented PLM-DMS with content server on WAS620.We are contemplating to use distributed content server for our requirement. Has anyone used multiple content servers? if so, could you please share your experiences.
Also, if anyone has anyone upgraded the content server to version 640, i would like you to share your experiences with me.

You said that you want to set up a conversion server... for what purpose? We use it to convert CAD/CAM data (Unigraphics) - but the actual converter software is provided by the vendor, not by SAP.

I'd fist try to find out what your business case/reason is why you want to set it up and then check what are the requirements

Document Conversion server in DMZ?

Based on reading the Deployment guide, it suggests that the Voice/Document Conversion server needs to be in the DMZ, but the only network connections that are indicated on the diagrams are for the mxport from the RTC Core Instance to the Conversion Server.
Shouldn't it be possible to put the Conversion Server on the internal network and just make sure that the mxport is open like the intrastructure ports are open?
Anyone have any comments on how useful the Document Conversion server really is in practice? Do users actually make use of it?

Well, in case anyone cares, it doesn't appear to be necessary to have the Document Conversion server actually in the DMZ (we have a no windows servers in DMZ policy). We opened the mxport from the DMZ to the document conversion server on an internal vlan and all seems to work just fine with document conversion and display.

Recently backing up my ipad onto my macbook, which is the backup server for all of my gadgets. This includes all my photos and tons of music. The macbook said it could not backup the ipad because there was insufficient disc space to do so. What now?

I have a macbook operating OSX10.6.7. Recently backing up my ipad which had lots of photos from a recent vacation. I use this laptop as the backup server for all of my gadgets so it has thousands of photos and tons of music. It just told me that it couldn't back up the ipad bc there wasn't enough disc space. I was afraid that this would happen eventually. What next? Newer laptop with more space? I'm not sure what files I could sacrifice to free up more space as most of these are important.

What size hard drive do you have in your MacBook? The cheapest options are, a larger internal hard drive, or an external drive. Or you could get a cheap desktop PC and network to it for storage. I've got one that lives in the hall with 3 Terabytes (That's 3000gb) of storage.

Old school with CS2. Haven't used in a while and am unable to use the program as it says my serial number is invalid. Customer service tells me the server for CS2 has been shut down. Then they sent me here for help. Does anyone have any advice?

CS2 is very old and reached its "end of life" a while back. So probably won't run on modern operating systems. If you can still run it, you'll need to uninstall what you have and re-install with the download link below to activate it.
