Conversion to 9ias from OAS

We are putting together a migration/conversion strategy for
moving to 9ias from OAS and need to know if we can install 9ias
on the same server as OAS without any issues, then once we have
moved users to this, remove the OAS from the App Server?

I also posted this on the Metalink forum and did get a response
back:
You can certainly install 9ias and OAS on the same box. You need
to be aware that the www listener of OAS uses Port 80 which is
the same port that 9ias tries to use for Apache. You will want
to change the www listener to something else. In addition, it is
not recommended that you use the same database for OAS and 9ias
because they use different pl/sql toolkit. You should use a
different database for 9ias.

  • Migration from OAS 10g to Weblogic 10.3

    Hello,
I migrate large app from OAS 10g to Weblogic 10.3.
    1.
The main part of the job was to prepare descriptors for Weblogic. Unfortunatelly I don't find any tool that could do the job:( There are some problems with descriptors namespaces. This schema and namespaces given in 10.3 docs are not working (not available):
    http://edocs.bea.com/wls/docs103/ejb/DD_defs_reference.html
So I use the one from 10 release in weblogic-ejb-jar.xml:
    weblogic-ejb-jar xmlns="http://www.bea.com/ns/weblogic/10.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
    xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.bea.com/ns/weblogic/10.0 http://www.bea.com/ns/weblogic/10.0/weblogic-ejb-jar.xsd">
and form 9 release in weblogic-cmp-rdbms-jar.xml:
    <weblogic-rdbms-jar xmlns="http://www.bea.com/ns/weblogic/90" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
    xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.bea.com/ns/weblogic/90 http://www.bea.com/ns/weblogic/90/weblogic-rdbms20-persistence.xsd">
There are also some bugs in docs about ejb relations.
After fixing some schema compliance exc this step success.
    2. Next the EJBComplianceChecker - its much more restrictive than OAS verification. So updates in ejb interfaces are necessary. It is not a problem with small app but when there ale a lot of code/branches to migrate it's become a problem. I have been looking for some switch that could help with this but with no result/

What are your experiences with migrations from OAS to Weblogic 10?

    Hi Stoigniew Sztank,
I am working on migrating Enterpirse application developed using Struts, Ejb2.0, JMS. Its been deployed on OAS 10G and Websphere, but I need to deploy the application on Weblogic 10.3. It seems you have migrated a J2ee application from OAS 10G to Weblogic 10.3. Please can you list me the steps that you followed to migrate the application.
As per my understanding follwing things needsto be taken care of:-
    1) Weblogic Descriptor files:
1.1 Weblogic.xml:- we added security roles and ejb-reference-description for the ejbs.
1.2 Weblogic-ejb-jar.xml for all the ejbs used in the application.
    1.3 Weblogic-application.xml
    1.4 Resource Adapter
    2) JMS queue set up
    3) JDBC set up
It would be a great help if you can let me know what are the steps to migrate the application.
    Thanks and Regards

  • Executing an Oracle 9i Client Process from OAS 10g Java Application

Sorry in advance for the long post:
We have a piece of legacy software (Uniface.exe) that contains a good chunk of business rules for an existing system. Uniface client connects to an Oracle 10g database but requires Oracle 9i client libraries. Therefore the default Oracle home for a local machine running Uniface is set to the Oracle 9i client software location.
On the same machine we have OAS 10g (10.1.3.1) running a Java-based middleware product (J2EE). The Java code invokes the Uniface.exe client to run specific business functions. We have in our Java code Runtime.getRuntime().exec(cmd); where cmd is the Uniface.exe.
It appears that when the OAS Java program executes the Uniface.exe it is using the Oracle 10g client libraries from OAS instead of the Oracle 9i client libraries from the local machine's default Oracle home. When we run Uniface.exe from a Windows command prompt it works fine.
We have noticed that when running Uniface.exe from Java OAS uses its own Windows path and environment variables and does not honor the system path. We wrote a Windows bat script to explicitly set the Oracle home and system path to the 9i location and then run Uniface.exe but this doesn't seem to work.
    Any ideas?

OAS sets the ORA_NLS33 environment variable to the OAS 10g home location (F:\Oracle\10.1.3.1\OracleAS_1\ocommon\nls\admin\dat). Setting it to my Oracle 9i client location (C:\Oracle\product\9i\ocommon\nls\ADMIN\DATA) appears to have solved the problem.

I read the migration document and i have minimal installatio tipe (http sever and Portal) and if don4t read bad i only have to backup the panama directory install 9ias in the same oracle home that the previous release and make changes in jserv.properties but and then i don4t know if i have to upgrade portal with the installation gives me configuration assistant or launch the pupgrade.cmd, i launch this and don4t works, i do it in a second machine but i need to do thus in our server.

  • Conversion/Creating Contract from Install Base Information

    Hi All,
My client has just completed Install base conversion from the legacy system
(both history and active information). They have also completed sales order conversion for the open orders only from legacy system. They have done the customer conversion, item conversion as well from the legacy system.
Now the customer wants to create program for running the Contract conversion from Install base. They want to take extract from install base and done some validation and call the contract api to create the contract.
I am assigned this job,I need some information on this :-
    1. Is it possible to run a extract from install base and though contract api, create the contract (since the billing, invoicing, payment rule is missing). As per client, these values will be defaulted. Also price list information, they want to derive the price based on the item at the run time.
    2. If the first method of getting the extract from install base is considered, which all fields from install base are necessary to create the contracts.
3.Further to ,if starting from the install base extract, what are the list of validation done before calling the contract api to create the contract headers, lines.
    4. Is it better idea to start the extract from legacy system and do the validation program and then call the contract api to create the contract.
    5. If the first method of getting the extract from legacy is considered, which all fields from install base are necessary to create the contracts.
6.Further to ,if starting from the legacy extract, what are the list of validation done before calling the contract api to create the contract headers, lines.
7.I am basically keen to know how this design will work.Any help, support will be highly appreciated.

    Ajay,
I would say to change the business process and adapt new practices in Oracle.I am not sure at what point of time they get the information about the "instance" in their field service system (Booking or Picking).
When the order is booked we do not choose the serial number (if it is non serial it is even worse), only at the time of pick confirmation we do that if you have setup such serial number control in inventory for the item (unless you are selling airplanes or ships where you know which customer is getting what much in advance).
If you are feeding them after pick confirmation when the instance information is known (not final yet!), you can institute a business process where unless FS gives the final go for ship confirmation cannot happen (notification based).
It is not a good idea to update IB (There is no API Support for the instances that are in inventory) that is still in inventory.
You can place an order line on hold order ship confirmation and before invoicing.
Let the ship confirmtion update IB and FS (I am not sure why you call it Field Service when they want to touch the machine that is still in Inventory) can come update the instance again after they finish the work using debrief for the service request. There is no harm in that. Once they do this, you can identify the order line that is on hold and release it so that invoicing can happen.
Ship Confirmation is a system transaction, and does not mean that the physially the product is out yet.!
    Thanks

  • Consume conversational web services from WebLogic

    hi all,
any one tried to consume conversational async webservices from weblogic 7 ? or tried to create conversational async webserices on sunONE ?
I am looking for standards to create interoperable async webservices which will use callbacks on the client side for notifications. Please advise...

    Hi Raja,
Following patterns will likely give you a good idea of the type of problems you will have to address in real-world apps involving interactions with async Web services. I would encourage you to make the leap to studying BPEL4WS (and possibly WS-Transaction as well if you have true transactional requirements).
App servers are at the core synchronous engines while BPEL4WS calls for asynchrony top to bottom. Saying that, it is possible to create an orchestration engine (as a J2EE container) on top of an app server to deliver orchestration infrastructure that deals with asynchrony, exception handling, long-running transactions, to enable developers to focus on the orchestration logic (i.e. BPEL) rather than re-invent the infrastructure wheel for each application built.
Take a look at the Q&A content here, hope it helps.

  • Migrating from OAS to iAS9

    Hi!
I'm looking for documents about migrating from OAS 4.0.8.1 (Linux & HP-UX) to iAS9. The document i have found on OTN don't tells me much about how to migrate from JServlet and PL/SQL.
    My main questions are:
    - how do i migrate my Servlet, which uses many Oracle spezific classes (icx etc.). Are these Classes supported in iAS?
    - how i call PL/SQL-Skripts from Servlets now? Is ICX supported?
    - can i use my PL/SQL scripts without modifications? I'm using only htp.print
    Che
    null

    a) ICX is not supported from Java. However, ICX is just http library - kind of like java.net.url. So, you should be able to do everything that ICX provided using java.net packages. If not, pl. submit a followup and we can discuss.
    b) The way you would call a PLSQL procedure is you would just submit a request thru java.net.url package. The target url of this request would be one that maps to the plsql procedure. You will thus have the response back in a string.
    c) You can use your plsql scripts without modifications [at least for what you are doing. there are some minor changes, but they don't impact you.]
The other thing to note is that you cannot runa standalone sql file like you could in OAS. It has to be in the database.

    Hari
There are lot of conversion routines, like
BUCAT Conversion Routine. eg. The BUCAT conversion routine converts the internal presentation of the budget type
(0BUD_CAT) into the external presentation (0BUD_CAT_EX), using the active entries in the
master data table for the budget type InfoObject (0BUD_CAT).
see the link below for all the routines.

    Hi,
I am working on Char set conversion to and from UTF-7. However I cannot find and ChatToByte classes for UTF-7 in i18n.jar . Any ideas as how to proceed further with this issue. I feel that there must be a way since UTF-7 is a pretty popular charset especially in emails.
    Thanx in advance.

    Hi!
I had the same problem a couple of months ago. I didn't find any classes in the jdk distribution to do this, nor did I find any classes or package on the web that did this.
The solution? I got a bit of C code from one of my working mates and converted it to Java. I have the code, but my company own the code. I have to check if its ok to share this code with you.
BTW. If you find any package on the web that does this, pleas inform me.

  • Migrating Java from OAS to 9iAS

I was able demonstrate a proof of concept java application in the 4.0.8.2 OAS platform. The application retrieved
information from an Informix database and post it to Portal Infranet Billing application. I used Informix JDBC libraries to connect to
Informix database, and Java API calls to connect to the billing application.
So far I have been unsuccessful in doing the same with 9ias. I have installed 9ias and been able to invoke simple

  • Problem - Migration from OAS 4  to 9ias

We have upgraded the application server from 4 to 9ias and are
now running into problems with calling stored PLSQL procedures.
Here is a code snippet of an example stored proc:
    PROCEDURE Test (
    num_entries in NUMBER,
    name_array in OWA.vc_arr,
    value_array in OWA.vc_arr,
    reserved in OWA.vc_arr
Basically if I call this procedure (w/o any paramaters) using
the old application server and associated plsql cartridge, it
runs no problem loading the webpage and such. Now when I try to
call the same procedure using the new 9ias mod_plsql, it says
    there is an error.
Error output (when connecting using browser)
    Test: SIGNATURE (parameter names) MISMATCH
VARIABLES IN FORM NOT IN PROCEDURE:
NON-DEFAULT VARIABLES IN PROCEDURE NOT IN FORM:
    NUM_ENTRIES,NAME_ARRAY,VALUE_ARRAY,RESERVED
We have found that if you do not set a default values for any of
the parameters that it comes up with this error. Is this in fact
the case? Do default values have to exist for procedure
variables when using 9ias? If so how would I set the default
values for this test procedure if Number is integer, and the
    rest are arrays.
Does anyone know of a migration tool specifially for this
purpose as we are going to update multiple procedures?
    Any help would be beneficial.

    Gurus,
I figured it out. I should read the documentation more closely.
    Found it in...
For questions about backwards compatibility with OAS, refer

I just have to put a exclamation mark in front of the procedure.

    Oracle9iAS R2 supports both PL/SQL via mod_plsql and J2EE applications using OC4J/mod_oc4j.
