Hello everyone,
The headline for this could be: "College educator needs a tool for converting batches of digital video files to FLV for use in Adobe Presenter or other streaming solutions."
The college educator is me, or more precisely, an instructional designer who tries to find solutions to technological problems. My specialty is video development and deployment (Premiere Pro; Premiere Elements; Adobe Connect Pro and Presenter; Flash Media Server v. 2.*, Flash CS3, etc.).
Description of the problem: The utilization of video by college professors is exploding at my venue: the University of St. Francis, a prominent online learning provider in Illinois and the Midwest. The explosion is significantly due to the advent of "tapeless" video, via Sony Handycams, Aiptek camcorders, and others. But the current state of the "prosumer" industry is that of a grotesquely uneven playing field of different codecs, and the inability of some computers to handle different formats (e.g. MPG2, MOD, ASF, MOV, VOB-- many of which are different flavors of each other). Using digital video versus mini-DV tape is advantageous because of the miniscule time it takes to download a video file to a workstation. I can take an hour of digital video and import it into the computer in a matter of minutes, on a bread-and-butter Windows XP machine.
These imported video files (for discussion, I'll refer to these as MPG2), are fine for local use on the machine. An instructor brings a student over to watch an MPG2 of his speech to class for critique purposes. But for deployment-- to the web, to email, or to just the student's thumb drive-- the files are way too big. Conversion to a more manageable format: WMV or FLV is required. FLV is preferred because of the ease with which in can be imported into a Powerpoint/Adobe Presentation (USF is a heavy user of Adobe Presenter).
Adobe offers many solutions free of charge. The Adobe Media Player is one example. What is needed is a tool for instructors to batch convert video files of many different and competing formats to FLV. Currently, having trialed several freewares, the closest approximation to the ideal converter in my own opinion is "Prism" downloadable from TUCOWS and other sites. But like many freewares, "Prism" is sometimes a gateway, during installation, to other exotic softwares that the user does not need.
Adobe Flash comes packed with a wonderful tool-- the media encoder-- which allows batch processing of files to FLV. But you apparently cannot get this encoder without purchasing Flash. It's a wonderful software, but it's ease of use and expense is well beyond the reach of the average faculty member. Video-- itself-- is within the reach of the faculty member due to the proliferation of cheap camcorders and the availability of video editing programs that come bundled with the machine (e.g. Windows Movie Maker).
But the batch conversion solution is needed to take full advantage of the promise of digital video.
My question and suggestion: Can Adobe make its Flash Media Encoder available as a standalone freeware? Can it be versatile enough to handle many different kinds of codecs, or be able to integrate new codecs (different flavors of MPG2 for instance)?
I will probably post this question in a Flash forum as well as I think this issue crosses over.

Can't convert MP4 to .fLV for flash using encoder CC 2014

Seriously adobe, I wish I never upgraded to CC, it's been a nightmare.
I need to convert an MP4 to an .flv for flash pro CC. Encoder CC no longer supports this, which is UNBELIEVABLE....
I use a third party vendor for video in flash banner advertising and it only supports .flv files.
Can someone tell me what other programs allow me to so the MP4 to FLV conversion?

Handbrake won't convert AVI files, But there are many more than those mentioned that will
The choice of conversion software is a personal choice, I have around a dozen applications that will tackle AVI's, however VisualHub is not one of them, not because there is anything wrong with it but rather I have enough such applications in my arsenal already.
I would use mpegstreamclip in most scenarios for what you are wanting to do but maybe not always. It is a good idea to have a few applications to choose from as not all do the same thing. mpegstreamclip has a few more options than some bog standard applications without becoming overburdening with choices.
You might want to try a few applications yourself before deciding on the software for you. isquint is a free limited version of visualhub, you might want to give that a whirl to get a feeling for visualhub.
Be aware though that quality conversions do not happen quickly, claims of being faster than other applications may well be correct, but are usually a trade off against quality. Again you need to choose your software to reflect your preferred balance between speed and quality.

yes, that app engine didnt inserted any rows. So now when i tried to drill down i found that there was no data in the "new demo" database on table UPG_DATACONV. That is the reason for all this.
When i applied required for upgrade patch in demo it said couple of patch already exists so those update i skipped. Now when i check upd877654 has a step which imports the data in this table. my change assistant told that the update is already available in my demo so i skipped. Now i am not sure what to do.
I tried reimporting the data and running the analyzer again. But worried that there can be any issues due to this.

How to Skip weight data from Sales order for Higher level BOM material

I have maintained a BOM at Item level with item category group LUMF.
And the higher level item is not subjected for pricing and costing. While creating the higher level Item I did not maintain weight for it. Now when I create a sales order due to the incompletion log system is asking to maintain Weight details for higher level item also.
But I donu2019t want to maintain weight for that item nor I want to remove net weight and gross wt from incompletion log.
While creating higher level material with material type FERT and I have maintained LUMF and all things are normal. Also tell me do I need to select any different material type or do I need to go for different settings ?

I do not know what a reference charactersitcs is,but there are all independant characeristics in terms of their values.
A guess it is because the VC data is changed after the sales order is created, the updated VC data is displayed properly only in VA02 or VA03 but other function modules fail to display the updated VC data.
I understand there is a relationship of instance -between sales order object and VC data object-which we need to update and then see the latest data.
Please let me know if anyone has debgged VA03 to know how the standard SAP program retrieves VC data in a sales order.

Hi,
In normal case, when you do GR w.r.t. a Normal PO then system updates Stock Quantity as well as Stock Value of Material.
But in case of High Seas PO, you don't want GR to happen, you want to carry out LIV directly based on PO. So in this case there won't be Stock Quantity updation as well as Stock Value updation i.e. Expense Account will get psted during LIV against Vendor Account. So your High Seas PO should be account assigned PO.
So to achieve this, create a separate document type for High Seas PO with allowed Item Category as Blank" i.e. Standard.
Path: - SPRO > MM > Purchasing > Purchase Order > Define Document Types
OME9 - Create an Account Assignment Category as "Z" (High Seas PO) by copying "K" and in the detailed screen of the same deactivate "Goods Receipt" indicator.
Now create PO with this Document Type and Account Assignment Category "Z" and check under "Delivery" Tab Page, "Goods Receipt" indicator will be deactivated that means GR not required for this PO.

Inconsistency between or among applications in the artificial "suites" should come as no surprise.
The "suite" concept is a fabrication of Adobe marketing and bean-counting types. The engineering teams are totally independent of each other, they are not only in different buildings but in different cities and states of the American Union, even in different countries.

This problem is side effect of issue 193 (https://glassfish.dev.java.net/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=193) and is described in details in issue 634 (https://glassfish.dev.java.net/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=634). Your choices are to use the work around described in the above issue or switch to the GlassFish build with the fix.

File Content Conversion - documentation, especially for all parameters?

Can anyone point me to do for the File Content Conversion documentation? especailyl for all the parapters for record set structures? I've found some articles, posts here and there, but nothing that just lists them all.
I'm try to parse a flatfile thats simply looks like this:

e
Into a single recordset with 3 structures..
the first struct has 3 fields, 1 char each
then 2nd structure has 1 field
then the 3rd structure has 1 field
however, no matter what I try, the engine always seems to try to parse the 2nd line as the first structure type.. thus complaining line 2 can't be converted to the first strucuture format...

Wireless Site-Survey for High Density Environment

Hi,
I have done many Wireless SIte-Surveys in my career. But this will the first time, I am going to do a Site-Survey for High Density environment (School with Byod 1:1 design).
Currently, the school has a Wireless network in place. The current wireless design includes 3502 APs, 5508 WLC and Cisco Prime. The customer has issues with sufficient bandwidth in classrooms which limiting the students and teachers to access the learning content.
It is understood that there was no initial Site-Survey conducted, the AP positioning was made based on their knowledge.
Now, I am not sure as how to conduct the Survey here?
Do I need to conduct an Active Survey by connecting to the existing Wireless Network in the School? Or just passive Survey will be enough to determine the exact issues with the current design and provide the recommendations?
I have gone through the Cisco High Density design and white papers to start with.

Before you do the site survey, I'd do the initial breakdown of the LAN.
1. What kind of switch ports are we talking about?
2. Are the APs connected AND negotiated to 1 Gbps ports?
3. What is/are the switch uplinks? 100 Mbps, 1- or 10- Gbps, Etherchannel?
4. Line errors on the links between the AP and the switch, uplinks and the link between the WLC and the switches?
5. WLC link? How many are used? Are they LAG or not?
6. Configuration of the WLC must be checked.
Once you've checked these do I start talking about wireless:
1. What problems are the staff/students experiencing?
2. How many APs to a classroom? How big is the class?
3. Determine what kind of traffic are each class trying to push?
4. Where are the APs located in relations to the staff/student?
5. Verify co-channel interferrence. I know they have 3502 but I've seen people disable CleanAir.
6. Verify what kind of NIC cards are used and whether drivers have been updated or not.
I'm in the middle of improving our wireless coverage in >98 schools. This means I am now deploying 1 AP per classroom. In areas where the students/staff converge, I put additional APs (both indoors and outdoors).
