Conversion Tool in batch mode

During a migration project from BO 6.5 to BO XI r2 SP3, the process of conversion to WID is decomposed in many steps (due project reason)
In folder <install dir>\BusinessObjects Enterprise 11.5\win32_x86\scripts there is a batch file called migbatch.bat.
With this file is possible to call conversion tool in batch mode.
One parameter is a XML file, but I can't found a description how to build it. I think it contains REP list.
Do anyone know the XML structure?

OK I'm still not clear on whether or not this is supported but I did find an old adapt where they attempted to add this functionality. Does this help?

Migration to CC&B: location of Conversion tool batches

Hello,
We are at the beginning of the process to migrate data into CC&B using ODI and CC&B Conversion Tool.
We are on a DB 11gR2, using CC&B 2.3.1.
After installing CC&B conversion tools, we are not able to find on the server the validation batches (for instance "VAL-PER" for validating persons)
Qa) Is it normal ? If not, do you think our install is wrong ?
Qb) Do we have to manually create the standard batches (VAL-PER.properties, calling CIPVPERB) ?
I hope that my explanation is clear, and that someone will be able to answer.

In MDM 2.0.1 Oracle introduced new set of services for data synchronisation. You can find a description of these service
in the MDM_Configuration_Guide in Chapter 15.
I don't know if there are special tools available to migrate form legacy systems to MDM.
From my point of view you have to create a set of XIA Inbound services to create all the necessary master data in you system.
Advantage of this solution is, that you can also use this services to synchronize you system later in production mode.

Upgrade from ICM 6 to 7 (TR) -- Domain conversion tool / UMT

Hi, we are currently upgrading from 6 to 7.0 and subsequently to 7.5 (TR, new hardware, new domain, new instance). So far we've staged our W2k3 domain and all the other soon to be ICM servers.
I'm currently trying to migrate the domain users and it tells me that I need to use the Domain Conversion Tool to go migrate the domain users from 6 to 7. (Staging guide chpter 4)
I can't find any documentation on the Domain Conversion Tool, when I run the executable I can see the different triggers (below) but that's it.
I've done an export and gotten a file but what next?
Do I do a convert now?
is the convert going to change my production database?
I'm also reading that the Domain Conversion Tool was replaced by the UMT (for 7.0 to 7.+).
Or should I now use the UMT and point it to my export file?
Im afraid to run the convert and and messing up my Rogger sideA database?
Has anybody use this tool?

I'm looking to run this myself shortly. The only caveat with this info is that its extracted from the section related to ICM5 and migration from multiple to single forest ... so possibly not the correct info. However, there's not much documentation on this as you've seen!

Allow Bridge to work in Batch mode

Whenever you go into a new photo directory, Bridge has to go through a laborious process of building the thumbnails and creating the huge file "droppings" called Adobe Bridge Cache.bc and .bct (note, these "droppings" stay around taking up space, so assuming they're important, why not let them be created in batch mode?
In other words, why not be able to point Bridge at a directory called "Photos" or something, and tell it to go find the files in every folder/subfolder, create the "droppings" and not make people wait so long to get into a new directory the first time. I would much rather tell Bridge to go to work and come back an hour later and find out that I can now go from one directory to another without paying the penalty real time.
Seems logical to me.
Is there anything that can be done about the size of the "droppings" Bridge leaves behind? I'm looking at one that's 20MB right now, and I've seen them much larger on my system. I sure don't want to have to back them up in every directory unless absolutely necessary.

Have you tried Tools > Cache > Build Cache for SubFolders?
You can point it to your collection and let it go build it's 'droppings'.
Since you didn't find this feature - is there a way we can make this more accessible to more users?
Another approach is to have background indexing process that runs independent of Bridge and watches specific folders. Personally I am not a big fan of background apps - but maybe this feature would be user controlled: run always, run only when Bridge is running, run manually.

I am migrating from a sup 1a(hybrid mode) to a sup720 and in a class in December I heard that there was a conversion tool for the cat config to the ios config. If this is true - can you please let me know what it is and where can I get it?

Problem when execute report Conversion Tool XI 3.0 on a client

Hi everyone,
When I use Report Conversion Tool on a client (not on Webi Server Windows 2003) I have an error (a red cross appears) before the conversion.
I believe that RCT can not open the document to migrate.
All it's OK when I use RCT since the Webi Server.
Any help will be appreciated.

Report Conversion Tool - problem with logging in table OBJ_G_MIGRATION

since several days I am searching different BO-Communities for a solution, but I didn't find any threats about my problem.
I am new to BO XI R3.1 and I want to convert deski-reports with the report conversion tool.
I tried it directly on the server-machine and all is ok (report is converted inclusive the logging in the audit-table OBJ_G_MIGRATION).
When I try it on my client-machine, the conversion is made successfully, but there is no result in the audit-table.
On the client-machine, I use the same connection like on the server machine and on both machines, I am logged on (in the report conversion tool) with the "Administrator"-user.
Has anyone an idea? Could it be a problem of user-rights in the Oracle-DB?

thank you for your reply.
From my client machine I can successfully test the connection to the Audit-DB. With non BO-Tools like "SQL Tools1.4.1" I can also connect to that DB.
After your reply I have tested once again and I have found something else strange.
If I convert a deski-report, and the conversion-status is "not converted", the Audit-DB is written (for example: error-text = "document cannot be read" / workaround = "remove protection password if set").
But when I convert the same report together with an other report, which will result in "partially converted", nothing is written to the Audit-DB (same effect as when I convert only reports with status "partially convertet").

Try this idea: run it on server. Other user suggest the Windows version as the reason. if does not run, reinstall the Tool, maybe something is corrupted.

The same thing works on BO XI 3.1
Is it a bug in BO XI 3.0 ?

I upload a CSV file and based on that CSV file I create an XML "object". First I uploaded and downloaded it via gui frontendclass, but as it has to be run in a batch in the night I need to upload and download the data via OPEN DATASET.
The import and transformation of the CSV file works fine, also the transfer into an itab with the same structure as a CSV line is ok. I also create the XML file, which could be downloaded easily with gui-download but it is not permittet.
Import of data: I scan the folder and get the filenames into a itab, I loop over that itab and read the single files like this:
     OPEN DATASET ls_convert_batch FOR INPUT IN TEXT MODE ENCODING DEFAULT.

An idea if SAP Provides any standard program to conversion of non batch managed material to batch managed material in a productive SAP Environment and close open documents,

Use the same Driver program RIPROV00 which is used as Script driver program to fire the output from smartforms also
Only thing is little bit you have to modify the program such that it triggers the smartform instead of Script.
I think there is no smartform driver program for this IW21.
see some standard SF driver program like RLE_DELNOTE and
modify it and use it.

I am trying to consume BTQueryAUI in a custom function module. I have a requirement where in when i receive a external ref nbr, i need to update the status of crm service request to completed. We have already built logic to store the external nbr info in AET field on Service request and enhance inbox search to take give the results accordingly. now when i try to consume the query service with standard query parameters in batch mode..its not working..

How to Upload a file in a Batch Mode ?

Hi, I want to upload a Comma separated value File via RFC to a BW system.
The scenario is the following: From a Portal server i call the BAPI using JC0/JCA.
The problem is that GUI_UPLOAD does not support a BATCH job. At least i get a error when calling the BAPI: Exception condition "NO_BATCH" raised.
How do i upload a file in a Batch Mode ?

Sorry for the delay. The delay was in trying to get to talk to the Basis team.
Here is how we have it.
On the message server of every instance, there will be a SAP admin id that is '<SID>ADM' or 'SAPSERVER<SID>' where SID is the system ID. We use the '<SID>ADM' user id.
On the external NT fileserver, there has to be a user id created on the NT box with the same SAP admin id and this id on the NT box should have access rights do Read/Write.
All of these have to be in the same domain (or different domains that have trust access to each other).
So, there is basis,network and security groups involved.
Once these are in place, we can have file access to the external fileserver box.
We use logical filenames at our place (Transaction FILE).
This makes all the file transfer locations well organized and manageable.

Getting a COM error when calling MenuItemExecute in batch mode

I support an internal document management system for our corporate contracts. Among other applications, I have one that runs nightly in batch mode to store new invoices and connect them via bookmarks to their corresponding “parent” contract files. The original program was created in 2005 with Acrobat 7 (later updated to Acrobat 8) and it worked well for several years. However, a few months ago I upgraded the system to Acrobat 9 and since then the program has not run consistently.
The “program” actually consists of a VB application and two plug-ins. The VB application does as much work as it can with IAC and the JSO bridge, but because the files are (owner) password protected one plug-in automatically applies the necessary password using AVDocDidOpen when the VB application opens the AVDoc. The VB application then also calls the other plug-in using MenuItemExecute. The second plug-in is used to create the bookmarks between the two files by grabbing info off bookmark strings and creating the necessary actions. It also applies the password to the files.
Here is brief outline form is how this is all structured:

Since the upgrade, I’m getting a COM error [The server threw an exception. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80010105 (RPC_E_SERVERFAULT))] on a non-consistent basis when the application tries to call MenuItemExecute. When I say “non-consistent” I mean that some days the program will process several hundred files just fine. Other days it won’t process any. Then some days it will not process the first, oh, four files but will process the next 300. Usually it runs fine when started interactively, but even then the error sometimes occurs.
I recompiled both plug-ins and the VB app using the Acrobat 9 SDK (headers for the plug-in and the Acrobat type library for the VB app) but that didn’t make any difference. I added code to check if the MenuItem is available and it is in all cases.
After reviewing this more, I got to thinking that perhaps a race condition was the culprit—that a string hadn’t been completely written before the second plug-in tried to create an action for it. So I added some half-second pauses along the way, but that doesn’t seem to have helped, either.
At this point the only thing I can think of is to rewrite the application as a pure plug-in. But it’s a long and involved application and if I can get the current app to work I’d prefer to do that. I tested it with Acrobat 10.1 and encountered similar problems.
As I said, it’s been working fine up until Acrobat 9. Does anyone know of anything that might have changed with Acrobat 9 that I haven’t considered? Is there anything else I might check? Thanks.

I'd be interested in hearing why you think that because others at Adobe have told me it's OK. Acrobat is only being called by one user at a time and we've paid for a full license.
