Conversion unit to output FCP firewire to NTSC?

I'm looking for a no frills external conversion unit to output FCP through firewire to an NTSC monitor, ideally to an HD NTSC monitor.
Any suggestions?
Ben

Hi David,
Three questions (I scanned your suggested URL twice but still wasn't sure).
1. With the Matrox can I run a clip from the FCP timeline, or a Quicktime movie, and see it fullscreen on the external monitor ... or do I get the FCP Apple monitor display with all the FCP windows open (as in how the boys demo the software in the trade shows)?
2. It says 'Broadcast Quality' but will it output to an HD consumer TV?
3. I've got a Sony HDV camera. Some people say I can use that as the interface, but I haven't been able to make it work. And some people say it won't work. If it's SUPPOSED to work, the manual says nothing, Sony's website says nothing ... and I can't figure what buttons to click to get it to work.
I'd be satisfied with an NTSC signal out from the HD timeline ... just to have the TV monitor image to do the colour correcting.
Thank you most kindly,
Ben

  • Output via firewire with studio 2

I have recently set up a FCP Studio 2 system with a kona LHe card and am having a hard time outputing to dvd. We are using an HD player deck (JH-3) and our analog outputs from the kona are component only. DVD players only take s-video and composite. I need to find a way to go firewire out into my dvd player. There is no option for this in the video playback... I know people doing this on studio 1 but i cant seem to find any way of outputting via firewire in studio2.. any suggestions???
    Helpme604

Thanks for the reply. Yes Im trying to go to a dvd recorder for dailies output. In avid i have s-video and analog out of the mojo but I only have component out as an analog option from our Kona card. In our studio 2 for some reason we dont have an option to go firewire out. Could this be from a poorly installed FCP? In the video playback options we dont have any firewire options.
    thanks again

  • FCP-firewire-P2 GEAR-sdi-Panny Monitor-Setup

Here's my specs: Dual 2ghz G5/10.4.11/QTime 7.5.5/Final Cut Studio 2 (all recently installed)/P2 Gear/BT-LH1700/DVCPRO HD footage shot on HVX using 720/24pn with the FCP timeline to match and the P2 gear settings matched up in the SYS Format menu setting
Goal: Monitor FCP output via firewire to P2 Gear and to Panny monitor via sdi
What I've tried: All the basics- Different cables, different ports, checking system profiler for Firewire connection to Gear (it's connected), making sure the gear is connected and turned on prior to opening FCP (and even partially opening FCP to the A/V devices window where you must have the devices connected and recognized to be able to pass (the spot where you click check again)), in FCP clicking on the all frames, view, system settings, etc...
Theory: There is some setting in the P2 gear I'm missing. I've scoured the manual, internet (shane ross' blog makes it seem simple, and barry's article on the "gear" mentions it's possible) and endlessly adjusted the settings whether it's 1394 Host, 1394 Device, neither, all the different TC options. (Note, the P2 gear plays clips off of P2 cards on the monitor with no problems.)
Thanks for any help or input, MM

Is your method working simply because you've dropped pn footage into a 30p timeline?
I don't have a 3rd party card right now so I have to monitor via firewire. I like the look of 24pn (as recorded on the HVX200) so the only way I can monitor is putting it into a 30p timeline. It does some funny stuff when paused but plays fine.
Once everything is cool, I simply copy all the material from the 30p timeline to a 24p when it's time to output.

  • FCP Firewire Issues / Device control exporting footage

I previously used DV for all importing and exporting through firewire. Recently I've updated to HDV. For some reason I'm unable to print to tape or even tape through the timeline via firewire. at first I thought it was the HDV camera, till I tried to export via firewire to DV again. Nothing happened. FCP wasn't even recognizing the DV Deck or DV camera. It said the device was missing. I went into the audio/video settings and easy set up to no success. What's going with FCP, that I can't output through firewire anymore. Please help, if you have any suggestions.

First of all. Have you tried checking the system profiler to see if you system is recognising the DV deck?
Click Apple symbol/ About this Mac / More Info... / Hardware / Firewire.
If your system is seeing the deck, then the Deck's name / model number should appear on the firewire bus.
If it does, then the problem lies with FCP. Try changing the device control settings to Firewire Basic. Try trashing your preferences.
If the deck does not apear on the firewire bus (press apple R, to refresh) then the problem lies with your system / firewire port / deck.
Try resarting the Mac with the deck already switched on and connected. Try another Firewire cable (Yes they do fail with regular monotony).

  • Output DV (firewire) or Output (DV)... are the same ???

I must buy a digital video camera recorder of the Canon mark, on APPLE Store
    for example.
Models presented on the site have a very precise denomination on the output of the signal.
I see that models precise: output DV (Firewire - IEEE 1394).
Others precise only left DV (in/out).
does it have a difference which would make that I cannot
import with my video camera in iMovie HD?
    To be clearer,
the model Canon MVX 20i is mentioned with output DV Firewire IEEE 1394,
    whereas
the model Canon MVX 45i, it is not mentioned only: output DV (in/out).
I would like to buy the Canon MVX 45i.
Is what I would have of the problems of interface with my MAC?
    thank you.

You want a camcorder with DV or Firewire in and out.
Some European camcorders have DV-in disabled due to tax regulations so they have DV-out only (i.e. the camcorder is nEUterized . You can't export the iMovie project back to such camcorder!

  • Audio Output with firewire audio interface issue

Hi, i have a quick question that maybe someone here can answer for me. I originally posted this in the OS X forum but someone recommended that I may get better help here.
I have a PowerPC G5 with Mac OS X 10.4.11. I do a lot of home recording and use a Presonus Firebox Firewire recording box. I recently picked up some new monitor speakers that I run the outputs of my Firebox to and I use the Firebox as my output sound device in my system preferences.
Everything works pretty well unless I touch one of the volume buttons on my keyboard (which I tend to do out of habit pretty often). If I do press one of the buttons the volume dips way down and I have to pump my speakers and firebox volume up all the way up to hear them. If I do this, and then happen to put my computer to sleep when I awake the computer the volume is now at an extremely high level until of course I press one of the volume buttons on the keyboard.
The big problem is I have twice in the first two days of having my new speakers turned them way up and later in the day awoke my computer from sleep mode and had itunes or a dvd BLAST out of my speakers at a ridiculous volume.
My question would be is there some way in os x I can disable the volume buttons from being used if i am using a different output device? OR is there a better way for me to set my system up in my system preferences?
It was suggested in another forum that I look into the help for the Firebox unit instead of the mac so I have started to do this as well. I just thought that because everything works fine UNTIL I touch the computers keyboard it seems like the computer is making some drastic change in how the sound is being output, so I thought I'd try to find an answer here as well!
Thanks so much to anyone in advance who has any sort of help with sound preferences and or settings!!

This is a very good point! Thanks for your response.
I do realize that I have multiple volume controls going on here in a chain. First my computer, then the Firebox interface, then my speakers have volume knobs...
But what I am seeing is when I first press a volume key on my computer (even if it is the VOLUME UP key) there is drastic lowering in volume. Only until I put my computer to sleep, and awaken it does the volume return to a normal level.
It seems that when I am pressing the volume on my computer it is activating something on the mac's end... or changing the way the sound is being output.
Again all of this could be avoided by me not pressing those 3 keys on my keyboard... but old habits die hard! so if there was a way for my mac to give total control of sound output over to my firebox that would be best.
any more help is greatly appreciated!

  • DVD burned looks darker than FCP video on ntsc monitor

I use a broadcast ntsc monitor to color correct video from FCP via a cinewave capture/output card. My footage was shot mini-dv. Everything looks great on ntsc monitor. I finished the show, color-corrected rendered and all is good. I export mpeg 2 using the mpeg-2 export option from FCP, playback on computer, looks good. I used dvdsp 4, simulator looks good. I burn dvd and view it on same monitor as I was color correcting on. NOW, the dvd looks darker, the contrast is a little heavier, overal levels are muddier and darker. I try another dvd player, same thing. Different monitor - still dark. I take it home, and try it on 2 other dvd players, and it looks perfect on my tv at home.
I've been doing some research, and I thought this might be one of those IRE setup issues, but from what I've read, it looks like if it were an IRE issue, my video on the dvd would appear washed out and brighter, not darker. Again, it looks great on 2 set top dvd players I've tried, as well as the built in apple dvd player on the powerbook screen. On two other set-top boxes, it appears dark and muddy.
Anybody have any experience with this problem?
    IRE, or something different?
    Thanks

It sounds like it may be DVD Player or television set-up related. If it behaved the same way on each player/tv then it could have been related to encoding settings, gamma etc. - did you double check the set-ups to make sure?

  • After Mac software update can't output thru firewire

I did a software update (quicktime, dvd studio pro, pro app support) and now I can't view my FCP output on my ntsc monitor. I've tried it with my camcera and with a Canopus ADVC110. Under FCP's View>VideoPlayback Applefirewire has (missing) in front of it, and Audio Playback has DV grayed out.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • Fcp export in ntsc format and burn into IDVD

i need help, when i export my fcp , i have set the settings for ntsc but in IDVD, when payed, it keeps jumping. although i did another one in pal, and things are ok, what setting do i have to put and also mpeg will work also or not. is pal regular in all the dvd players or ntsc?

First, what is your sequence ntsc or pal? ntsc is the standard for north america. and pal is the rest of the world (for the most part). most pal players will play ntsc disks without a problem. and computers will play either pal or ntsc.
You need to describe your workflow from shooting, thru capture, and editing. If you start with ntsc, stay with ntsc. If you start with pal, stay with pal. If you have pal material and need to create an ntsc dvd or vice-versa you need to do a standards conversion to your finished sequence.

  • Desperately need help ASAP w/ FCP & FireWire

So, I'm on a MDD dual-1Ghz G4 running 10.4.5. FCP 3. Been using this setup for almost four years. All of a sudden tonight, when I need it, FCP won't find my DV device via FireWire. I need to output an 80 minute program to screen next weekend. I have to master the DV dub tonight or I'm in trouble... What gives?
Can't find it no matter what I try. The deck seems to be fine, as it shows that FireWire is connected. When I go to Log & Capture, FCP just quits. I don't even get the little "FCP crashed" dialogue box.
    This is bad.

so, after much cursing, i got it to work. the final solution, after installing the FCP upgrade, repairing permissions, etc., etc., was to reinstall QT7. fyi.

  • Issue with Varchar2 field conversion for report output generated in EXCEL

    Hello All,
I have an unique problem with one of my new reports for the User. The user wants the report output generated in excel data only(delimited data) format *(reports builder 10g)* .
Everything was fine until i encountered this problem, there was this field which has unique ID's(alphanumeric and numeric), when i tried to run the report and generate output in Excel the numeric ID's say for example *(41593497999679354429)* is converted in excel and displayed like *(2.5881E+19)* and after format cells in excel it displays *(41593497999679300000).*
The issue is only with 20 digits numeric ID's , if i append any special character to the end say '#' or '..' it shows the exact value along with the appended character. But the user insist they need only the value that is in the table. I am finding it hard to figure out, if any one of you have encountered the same issue or if any of you have any suggestions to overcome this excel conversion thing please do advice me.
    Thanks in advance :)

Thanks for you response, but i already tried what you suggested, instead of appending single quote in front of ID, i did at the end prior with '#', it preserves the value if i add any character to the id but the appended value shows up too :(.
Well, i just got the solution and it did work, thanks to [Brian Hill|https://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=651632] for the post, i did what exactly he said and it worked. I was so very happy and wanted to share with everyone.

  • Is it possible to set the sound output to Firewire and HDMI at the same time?

I would like to use Amarra for playing music thru the Firewire to a DAC and I would like the family to be able to use the MacMini for streaming sources thru the HDMI without having to change any settings every time. I'm running 10.8. Is that possible thru any special settings or separate software?
    Thanks in advance
    Harry

I do not speak English very well, however, I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture perhaps very very different from your own. Do some web searches for using software called Soundflower in conjunction with other 3rd party audio software to set up your own audio input and output sources.
That is all I know about it. I have read a few ideas for doing such things over the years.

  • Output to firewire = distorted audio

    the subject says it all.
If I play the timeline out my computer, everything is fine.
If I play out to the firewire port, the audio is massively distorted and after a few seconds the video stops playing.
I play into my DSR-20 deck and my VX-2000 camera and get the same results. This happened out of the blue, don't you just hate that.
I reinstalled FCP 4.5 and still get the same results.
I hope this is NOT 10.4.2 related.
still......I have to get this project out of the computer.

don't know the answer directly but basic troubleshooting process would be:
    Has this ever worked?
If yes, have you changed any settings on the deck since the last time you did this or changed any software since the last time you successfully worked with the equipement?
If yes, then start with that.
If no, does it work with other projects? Does it not work only with this one?
It might be QT7 related. Since you can't control the audio in the firewire stream directly, there has to be something happening in the way it is being sent out or the way it is being processed at the other end. Since QT is the underlying engine for all of this a/v shiftyness, it could be a funky installation.
    good luck.

  • Output via Firewire

I am trying to export my finished video to my camera via firewire so that I can then send it to a VCR via the camera's analog outputs. I used to do this often on my old computer, but can't do it on my new one. I connect a firewire cable from the computer to the camera, but do not then see the video in the camera's LCD screen. This leads me to believe that the signal is not being sent from the computer.
Is there a setting, either within Premiere CS4 or in the computer's Control Panel, which I need to change?
    Thank you.

Settings : Playback>External Device xxxx may help
or Check out the Export setting in that screen also

  • [missing] Apple FireWire DV NTSC

this is strange. I opened final cut to start capturing today and I couldn't capture anything from my camera. I've been able to do it before so I know it isn't the camera. Any ideas? When I go into my A/V settings it shows that the video playback is set to "[missing] Apple FireWire NTSC." Everything else is set up for Apple FireWire, the only one that says missing is video playback. I tried deleting my preference files and that didn't solve the problem, I've tried restarting and that didn't solve it. Any ideas?

First... can you open iMovie and check to see that it sees it there?
    If not...
Shut down the computer unplug everything have a beer and then fire it back up after 20 minutes. (Often called the Guinness Solution)
    Work?
    No -- do this: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301852
    Good luck,
