Convert 1080p avchd to 720p AIC directly from camcorder

Is there any software out there that lets me import video from my camcorder and convert it from 1080p to 720p Apple Intermediate Codec for use in iMovie.
Importing directly using iMovie generates 1080p material witch is slower to work with and takes a lot of disc space...

Ingest 1080p AVCHD as 720p ProRes

I have three (3) Canon VIXIA HF10's and I do a lot of three camera shoots in "full res" 1080p and I'm starting to eat up significant HD space (even with almost 7tb to my name). The camera itself doesn't have an option of down resing to 720 (only 1920x1080 and 3 bitrates of 1440x1080). I tried finding a way to get ProRes to ingest the full 1080p as 720p with no luck. Any suggestions other than using the Media Manager to convert it after the fact (which I've been having problems with anyways)?

Has anyone tried Voltaic to convert AVCHD?
I've just started to try capturing AVCHD and this string is great, thanks for the info!
Seems like any program to convert needs tons of tweeks and still isn't great. I have my footage on external hd, got Voltaic demo(converts avchd to quicktime), but can't get the demo to work.
Any ideas to get me started would be great! It seems like Toast may be the best option for me if Voltaic won't do it?

Down-Converting 1080p to 720p

I shoot AVCHD 1080p form a verity of different cameras - but 99% of all my final projects are for the Web or DVD - no big screen and no blue-ray. I want to shoot what I can in 1080p for future use or projects. My question is what is the best solution (free or nominal fee) for down-converting my footage to 720p for storage and editing?

Can I ask a related question here? (maybe in the "dumb question department) ...
I'm also shooting with a brand new NX5U -- which lets me shoot 1080 and 720 simultaneously (one to chip, the other to a flash drive). My projects also end up on the web and non-blueray DVDs.
So is the quality going to be better if I work in 1080 timelines and then import the final into a 720 timeline? Or is it going to look the same if I work in 720 right from the start?
I haven't run any tests to judge rendering time, etc. I'm assuming higher rez means longer processing time. But maybe it's worth it for better quality.
Anyone have any advice about this?

1080p 50 footage to Blu ray appears to convert to either 1080p 25 or 720p 50 is Share FCPX or Compressor

Has anyone been able to burn 1080p 50 footage to Blu ray, I can only seem to create a file of 1080p 25 or 720p 50 in either FCPX or Compressor 4 as the 50 option is greyed out in 1080p. As far as I can tell most blu ray players can handle AVCHD 1080p 50, even after the latest upgrades this still does not work. The footage is on the time line and project properties are correct.

'Disks' (BR/DVD) are completely different encoded than the stuff in your timeline.
To keep things simple, the rule is:
length matters, not size.
A single-layer DVD with maximum quality settings fits ~60min of video.
And, due to standards, is always SDef.
Same disk fits ~20min of HDef in a sort of BluRay-standard = you can burn a BluRay-structure onto DVD-r ... not fully compatible, but for 'quick'n dirty'.
Same DVD-r fits only a minute as 'data' from your timeline, which probably is encoded in proRes = ~40GBs/h ......

Airplay is a wireless streaming protocol. It allows content to be pushed from the iPad through the Apple TV onto your connected HDTV.

Export to mp4 720p de-interlaced from 1080i AVCHD

How do I export to mp4 720p de-interlaced from 1080i AVCHD footage from a Sony HDR-SR12? The raw source at 1080i looks fine from iMovie 09' but the exported through Quicktime 720p video is baldy jittered. However, the only previous export I have of the same movie is an iMovie 08' version and sadly not what youtube considers HD source material at 960x540 but it was clear of the jaggies.
The previous exports were made with iMovie '08s medium and large to m4v. The export I made of the same edit was to Quicktime via Movie to MPEG-4, 1280x720 5000kbps/sec, framerate current, Key auto, preserve aspect ratio using crop and H.264 options Main, multi-pass.

iMovie-edit.png is the edited raw source played back in iMovie
iMovie-export.png is the edited and exported 720p movie bad jaggies on motion.
This looks to be a motion related problem the jaggies are not there for slow moving action. Anyone have ideas to exporting 720p without this jitter?

This has to do with how iMovie 09' handles interlaced footage. The short answer is that it doesn't handle it well. Either de-interlace prior to editing in iMovie or use the 960x540 30p import setting. I know this is the short answer, but it has been quite thoroughly discussed in this forum, so a simple search will provide the long version.
For de-interlacing tools google "JES Deinterlacer". That will get you started.

It sounds like you're trying to convert to Word from within Reader, is that so? Are you signed in to Reader? If so, you'll see your name in the upper-right corner of the Reader application window.
If that doesn't work, please try llogging in to https://cloud.acrobat.com/exportpdf with your Adobe ID and password.

I understand that you are not able to sync a few songs you purchased from iTunes to your iPhone and other devices. There may be an issue with the file, but if you have the Apple ID and password used to purchase the songs, you can redownload them. You can even download the song directly to your iPhone. Some songs i downloaded directly from itunes won't convert and transfer to my ipod

I convert everything I download to AAC, so the files are smaller and can fit more on my iPod. However, some things I recently downloaded directly from iTunes wouldn't convert and transfer to my iPod, even though they're in my library. I tried downloading the newest version of iTunes, restoring my iPod, and manually converting the files. Attempting to manually convert the files just gives me an unkown error message.

I would like to have a go at this.
I am presently in Hong Kong. Just prior to this trip, I purchased an iP5. I have taken my iP4S to many countries and charged the phone by either using the USB connection to my laptop or by using Apple's World Travel Adaptor Kit.
Only after getting to HKG did I try to hook up my iP5 to the Apple travel adaptors and of course they do not fot and I do not have an adaptor that goes from 30 pin to the lightning cable.
So is it actually safe to take the original iP5 cable and charger and simply add an international plug adaptor that I am also using with my laptop? If so does that in fact mean that the iP5 can take 220 without converting the voltage that I thought was done by the Apple Travel Adaptor Kit?

Is there a way to import clips from AVCHD folders I have copied from my camcorder to my hard disk? With FCE I could import these clips using log and transfer.

In FCP-X is there a way to import AVCHD clips from an AVCHD file folder I have copied from my Canon hard disk camcorder to my iMac hard disk? With FCE I used log and transfer with no problem; but, FCP-X doesn't import them. It will import AIC files that have been created in FCE from the original AVCHD files. If FCP-X will not import these files directly from the copied AVCHD folder, is there a workaround using other software to convert the files? For example, Compressor? (Canon does not provide any AVCHD conversion software for OSX).

I have exactly the same problem but the answer you (Tom) provided did not help in my case. Trying to "Import ->From Camera" and pointing to the AVCHD folder yields the error message: "(Folder) contains unsupported files or has invalid directory structure."

My question is: Is that not a "camera archive" of the type you talked about in the thread? Is it on principle not possible to import the files in that format/directory structure? I work with a brand new Final Cut Pro X 10.0.4 (still very clumsy with it) on an iMac 11,3 with MacOS 10.6.8.
I downloaded the latest version of codec updates from the Apple support site but no difference.

Will Adobe Premier Element 12 videoprocessing software convert my AVCHD videos to the proper video format (when I "upload" or "capture" then to my computer) and then allow me to burn to blurays? In other words, will this software do it all (I have bluray burner installed)?

From what I have read of your camera, it should be recording at frame rates of 60i, PF30, 60p for video with AVCHD video compression and a .mp4 file extension. If these files are on your computer hard drive, then I would start out with an import from the hard drive save location to Premiere Elements 12 Expert workspace Project Assets via the program's Add Media/Files and Folders.
The first video drag to the should direct the program to set up automatically the project settings (Sometimes it does, sometimes it does not). For the does not times, then you will need to set the project preset manually.
We can go into greater details once you get started.
