Convert 11X17 to 8-1/2 X 11

I publish a community newsletter. The printer would like to receive pdf files 2 pages wide. That is, Page 16 and page 1 side by side laid out landcape 2 columns per page. This makes 8 pages for a 16 page newsletter. However pefore printing I would like to send the final edition out for review as a single pdf file. I previously would create a single Pages document with 16 pages (8.5 X 11) which could easily be exported to pdf.
Is there any way to create the single document from the 8 double page document? I am running Pages 2.0.

Larry...Hope I read you correctly. One of the gurus could probably answer your post. For what it's worth, I do a monthly freebie Newsletter and print using a color duplex printer on 11x17. Previously I took my standard paper doc scotch taped together to printer for color scanning on 11x17 two pages per side to be folded.
Duplexing for home user can be expensive depending upon copies desired. Got a color duplex printer, send the pages doc to it, specify copies, out come the 11x17 two facing pages printed in booklet form on both sides ready for folding. If more that 4 standard pages of text plus images on one sheet of 11x17, bind by stapling additional pages in the folds if desired. Excellent repro with Pages and no problem with pdf.
If you only want to pdf your Newsletter in 11x17 to printer for one-time preview, better win the lottery. Stick with the pro printer. Or, maybe a guru can guide you. If not, suggest asking a printer manufacturer. That's how I got into duplexing.
If your monthly copies justify cost of duplex printer as I e-mail copious monthly pdf copies plus print quite a large number for local distribution, you could put the numbers to it to see if its cost effective. If so, you can become a non-pro printer apprentice like me without becoming an inky wretch with apron. I don't worry about the union guy coming around as he'd need a mule with GPS to find me and I don't worry about OSHA. I'm in the catbird seat.
E-mail me if you wish further details. Beware I'm not a pro at this, not in competition with the printer trade, but am at a disatvantage living in the boonies at the mercy of a hard-nosed printer with lots of bills to pay. Service wasn't ideal - he doesn't miss me - my numbers will pay off - I enjoy the independence. Ol' Jim.

  • Advice needed for converting AI file to PDF

I'm working on some 11x17 page size illustrator files that are of aerial photo maps (with a legend).
Can someone offer me some advice on how to best convert these files to pdfs and keep the photo quality high and keep the file size as low as I can get it??? I basically can convert it to a pdf but I don’t understand the compression settings section (assuming that’s what needs to be changed in order to accomplish this?).
    Thanks

This is a trick I find works well.
Just save it as a pdf and open in Acrobat, then (Acrobat X) go to tools and then Prepare for Web Publishing, use all the default settings.
This should reduce the file as much as 1/3 the size sometimes even more.
It has no effect on the qquality.

  • Can't control location of graphics when printing to 11x17.

I have a brand new HP 7500A and I have a problem printing from PDFs and DWGs.  For PDFs, the graphics never fit on the page.  I choose 11x17 as the sheet size, select Shrink to Fit (the original size is 24x36), select Print Borderless, etc. and the graphics are pushed to the top and to the right and off the page.  The graphics are there, just not scaling to fit.  It's almost like the printer thinks a larger paper is being used.  The on-screen preview looks great but it is not what comes out of the printer.
DWGs are similar but not as bad.  I can locate the graphics scaled to fit and centered on the page but I really want to push them to the right side so I can have additional space on the left for binding.  Any pushing to the right and the graphics start disappearing.  I've downloaded an updated driver for the 7500 and also tried the 7000 driver, too, but neither solve the problem.  The 7000 driver prints VERY slow too.
The big problem is I can't seem to control to my satisfaction what the printer does.  I've used HP printers for more years than I can count and I've never had this much frustration.

    What DVI adaptor?
You are outputting what is visible on your screen...what is being fed TO your COMPUTER monitor. This is not a very good way to do it to say the least.
The reason the output from your companies system is much better is that it is being output properly, via the capture card. Now, if you send the signal out via firewire thru a camera or deck or Digital Video converter (firewire to S-VHS) then you wouldn't see this.
Hmm...the matrox MXO is a DVI adaptor...how does it not do this I wonder?

  • Creating an 11x17 booklet while maintaining file quality/size

I regularly use Pages for newsletter production - my newsletters must be in 11x17 format when submitted to a printer for production. I do not have InDesign or Quark - I'm trying to avoid the expense, quite honestly.
So: when I have completed a Pages document, I must convert to 11x17. I currently use Cocoa Booklet to do this. However, much to my dismay, I've found that the size/quality of my document takes a nose dive when I convert to 11x17 format with Cocoa Booklet!
I want to give my file to the printer in the highest possible resolution. One of the newsletters I do frequently contains artwork, and the creator deserves decent quality images in the final printed product.
So my question is: is there any way to create an 11x17 document from a Pages document while maintaining the original document quality?
    Thank you!

See the other post for the problem of assembling an imposed set of pages. Usually though your commercial printer will handle this. If they can't I really wonder whether they should be handling the job.
The core problem of resolution and quality suitable for commercial printing is however a problem with the colorsync quartz filters used by OSX to produce PDF-X files. Apple has set these up wrong and made them well nigh impossible to correct.
If anyone out there can give detailed step by step instructions how to alter the filters in Colorsync Utility and make them appear correctly and consistently in the printer options, I and many others will be eternally grateful.
As it stands the output reduces many graphics, effects and even some text to an unacceptable 72dpi pixellation.
The inking is wildly over what commercial printing requires. Normally this should never total more than 320% to prevent smearing, pooling and overwetting and bubbling the paper.
The filters do not provide the crop marks, bleeds or printer's slugs needed for production.
The filters do not allow targeting of the individual printer's equipment and settings.
There is no transparency or documentation of the process nor its effects which makes it difficult to control or know if it is correct (as it stands it is not).
Danger, Danger Will Robinson! Do not use!
Not much else can be said until Apple corrects this and stops misleading its users into thinking they (Apple) are actually providing a solution. In reality they have created a massive problem.
I pray that someone has finally been listening and this gets fixed in Snow Leopard.

  • Adobe Printer Not Converting psd to pdf

I have a Photoshop CS4 Extended user who is attempting to print a psd file to her Adobe pdf printer using the following page set up settings:
    Adobe PDF page size 22"x34",
    print quality set to 4000dpi,
    Truetype as "download as softfont".
The user gets as far as selecting the page setup settings in the print dialoge box and clicking okay to print but the "save as file location" dialoge never appears. However, she is able to save/print/convert from psd to pdf with the same settings except for the page size being 11x17.
User stated that this is a common work flow for her but started running into trouble late last week.
    Troubleshooting Steps
    All Adobe PS updates applied
    Windows OS updates applied
Installed Adobe PDF Converter printer on a local port - With this printer, the file goes through all the usual steps and is able to execute the file conversion process even showing the progress bar but the file never appears in the selected location. Further troubleshooting steps included changing the save file to location settings from Adobe Prompt to a folder on the desktop but result was the same.
    Hardware and Software Specs

    Adobe Acrobat XI Standard

It has EVERYTHING to do with the pixel dimensions of the image, so-many-pixels wide by so-many-pixels high.
The limit, already outlined by Mylenium, is 60,000 pixels in either of the two dimensions.
What he was suggesting—obviously—is to RESAMPLE the image. With the "Resample" box checked [ √ ], set the ppi to 300 ppi or less, and save that as a copy.  That copy will print.
Changing the ppi alone without resampling the image is, of course, sheer nonsense.
    As mylenium wrote:
What you see is perfectly logical. 4000 DPI seems slightly insane for any use case I can think of, especially at those sizes. You wouldn't need that resolution [even] to print a 100x100m mural…
That's 100 meters by 100 meters, or some 110 yards by 110 yards.
For a page size of  22"x34", you don't need more than 200 ppi, maybe less; but 300 ppi is doable.

    Hi,
Before go out to buy a converter/transformer  (you need over 2KW for all 3 of them), please check the switches at the back, they may have switches to switch from 110V to 220V. I don't know your market, my suggestion: talk with an electrician who knows the real world much better.

In the future, Swing related questions should be posted in the Swing forum.
First you need to convert your custom painting. This is done by overriding the paintComponent() method of JComponent or JPanel. Read the Swing tutorial on [Custom Painting|http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/TOC.html].
If you need further help then you need to create a [Short, Self Contained, Compilable and Executable, Example Program (SSCCE)|http://homepage1.nifty.com/algafield/sscce.html], that demonstrates the incorrect behaviour.
Don't forget to use the [Code Formatting Tags|http://forum.java.sun.com/help.jspa?sec=formatting], so the posted code retains its original formatting.

  • AiO Remote iOS - Google drive convert file automatically

    Hello Expert!
when i scan and upload on my google drive, google drive automatically convert the file in google docs format.
i already disabled the automatic convert in goole drive settings but same issue.
only aio remote - last version on app store installed - has this problem.
    Any suggestion?
    Thanks

    Hello,
I tried to duplicate the issue you're seeing and I can't. Here's what I did... used the AiO Remote app, took a pic of a handwritten note, saved as a PDF, and then shared to my Google Drive. The file type is still a PDF.
What type of files are you working with? Does the extension change happen on everything you send to Google Drive?

I need to convert PDF file to Word Document, so it can be edited. But the recognizing text options do not have the language that I need. How I can convert the file in the desired of me language?

The application Acrobat provides no language translation capability.
If you localize the language for OS, MS Office applications, Acrobat, etc to the desired language try again.
Alternative: transfer a copy of content into a web based translation service (Bing or Google provides a free service).
Transfer the output into a word processing program that is localized to the appropriate language.
    Do cleanup.
