Convert 16 bit Grayscale tiff file to Bitmap

How can I do a batch conversion of 500+ pics (in TIFF format) from 16-bit grayscale to bitmap in Photoshop?
Thanks.
Chris
PS - I know how to change them manually (Image>Mode>drop to 8 bit and then to bitmap).

Record an action that does this: "change them manually (Image>Mode>drop to 8 bit and then to bitmap)"
Then use scripts > image processor to process the files, running your new action at the same time. !! Be sure to work on a duplicate set of images !!

  • InDesign crushes every time I try to import grayscale tiff files

This didn't happen before. I'm scanning some files with photoshop through WIA, then save them as grayscale tiffs.
When I create a document (24 page print document A4 2 columns) or open an existing to make changes I can't import those newly created files, although I can still import older files of the same kind (grayscale tiffs)
I've tried to move pages from one document to another, since the original file crushes (but I don't want to lose work already done) and Recovery pops up  "[File name] may be damaged. Do you want to open it anyway? ( I followed instructions indicated here: InDesign document recovery) but nothing happens, it crushes again when I try to import those files.
I've also tried scanning files again with PS through WIA, saving new files with another name and repeating the process, but it goes on the same crushing again and again, although I can open these files with Photoshop.
Then I tried to create new grayscale files with photoshop which were not scanned and inDesign accepts them! That's weird and crazy!
I can't figure out if it's a InDesign problem or a Photoshop one.
I've MS Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit, AMD A10-6800K with Radeon HD graphics 4,1 Ghz, Intel SS DSC2CW120A3 Solid State Hard Disk, 8GB RAM, and I use HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 3515 to scan files.

Photoline opens this file just fine. Shows a single channel and grayscale.
But the original does choke ID. I suspect it is the compression used by the scanner and that is usually configurable.

The above link is to the file. I simply resaved it from Photoline and ID likes it now.

  • Please, how do I convert an automatically ',tiff' file (From using GRAB to save a picture!) - to a .jpg file?

When I use Grab on my iMac (OSX 10.6.8) the picture put on my desktop is in ".tiff"!
How do I covert it instead to .jpg - (for sending as email attachments?) PLEASE?

Preview will convert it. Right-click, open with Preview (if it doesn't automatically launch) then save as jpeg.

  • How do I convert thousands of TIFF files to PDF while preserving their individual filenames?

I currently have a library of thousands (if not hundreds of thousands) of TIF documents.  We're going to switch document management programs so I figure this is an opportunity to cut the files over to a more user friendly format like PDF (everybody hates TIF).
I need the filenames to remain the same since this library of files is indexed by filename.
Is there any way to do this automatically?  Manually cutting over each file is not plausible.
    Thanks!
Edit:  This may also be an opportunity to significantly reduce the size of my library, especially if I could make the resulting files "Reduced Size PDF's" compatible only with Adobe X and up.  If converting everything to a reduced file size is possible then that's definitely the way I'd like to go.

If you adjust the printer properties to not open the PDF that is created after it creates it and adjust some of the properties of the Adobe PDF printer, you might be able to set up a batch file to print to the Adobe PDF printer. Been a while since I have done batch files and am not sure what would be required. You might have to define the default printer in the command line to be the Adobe PDF printer and see if that will work with the basic print. The key may be to have a delay to be sure the print process is completed before continuing.
OK, I am just throwing out a possibility. I have no idea if it would work. However, it is a possibility if the batch process from Acrobat will not do the job.

  • How to show 10-bit PNG(TIFF) file in Labview?

I used NI-IMQA 1409 to grab a 10-bit picture. It only can be save as PNG file in MAX. but I found I could n't display that image file any more? Could any one tell me how I can display that PNG file. Thanks

First, when you Grab or Snap an image in LabVIEW with the Vision utilities, you will have to use 16bit format. This is a big pain, and a serious waste of memory, but necessary. I strongly recommend that if you are doing any kind of image manipulation or processing, that you keep it 10bit.
Okay, with that said. To display the image, you need to go to the Picture Tools palette, NOT the IMAQ palette. There you will find the tools to open and display the PNG image. However; you should be able to read the image with the "Read Image File" VI, though as I have never done it, I cannot be certain. Either way, the Picture tools will get you where you need to be.

  • Open Tiff file error

    Hi!
I've a very big tiff file, created by a scanner.
The scanner produces tiff files from my code, but the shipped SW can produce pdf.
My question is, how can I open this large tiff file in Labview (Vision)?
Using the Shipped SW I scanned a PDF and using Ghostscript I could convert the pdf to png and after the conversion I could open it!
Is there any way to convert this big tiff file to open in LV?

    Hi Durnek,
My first idea is to convert it from tiff to some light-weight format (i.e. BMP or lossy JPG) - you may do it i.e. controlling MS Paint via ActiveX.
Also, I would like to ask you which function/SW are you using to open/read this file? Could you also prove the image in the other way? (I am redirected to Hungarian portal - I can't easily download it).
    Thanks and BR,
    Wojciech.

  • Do merged as HDR tiff files incorporate develop changes (sharpness) made before the merge?

Using CS6 Lightroom 4.2 on a MacBook Pro to merge raw files in photoshop, saving as tiff files and then adjusting further.
Also, what if the raw files are developed before the merge? Does the merged tiff file include these developments? If so, what if the tiff file is further developed? Would this reduce or destroy picture information?

I just responded to a similar post here:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1085139?tstart=30
LR4.2 'Merge to HDR Pro' does not apply Exposure, Contrast, Highlights, Shadows, Whites, and Blacks settings to the LR images used to create the 32 bit HDR TIFF file. The have no affect on the raw image files used to create the HDR merge. You will need to apply these controls in LR to the single 32 bit HDR image file after saving it in PS.
All other settings appear to be applied on my Windows 7 64 bit system.

  • Word docs with bitmap drawings converted to grayscale

I'm still using Acrobat/Distiller 5 on Windows 2000 Pro to prepare press ready PDFs of word 2000 docs with black & white line drawings (600 dpi bitmaps). I've always used the default "Press" job option file and simply printed to the distiller printer that is installed with Acrobat. Been doing this without any problems for years. I had some computer problems recently and had to change to a different machine. Now when I print, the resulting PDFs have those 600 dpi bitmaps converted to grayscale images. I've tried every setting I can think of to make it go away. Like I said, I've never had to change anything from the default job options file. I've tried printing the postscript to a file, then distilling, always the same. BTW, fonts look good. I know there is a solution because this same thing popped up 2 or 3 years ago and it got solved then, but I can't figure it out this time. Nothing has changed wth the docs, but a new install of Acrobat on different hardware, same OS. Help please -deadline looming.
    Thanks, Dave

To all those having trouble converting documents to pdfs, I did some research and found a work around.
Go to File and choose Save & Send. Then choose Create PDF/XPS document. Click the Create button. PDF is generated.

  • 16 bits Tiff files with Photoshop Elements

    Hello,
I scan slides and films and get 16bits Tiff files. For post scan processing I would like to use PE but on the one I have (PE6 for Mac) most of the time before I start using a tool PE is asking me to convert the file into 8bits 'cause Element doesn't manage everything with 16bits files. Do you know if this is likely to change or if I need to buy Photoshop for my needs (as lomg as Photoshop works with 16bits which I assume it does).
Thanks for your answer and advices

Adobe seems to want to keep this as one of the distinctions between

  • How to convert   (pdf raw data) binary to (bitmap/TIFF) image.

    Dear gurus,
I'm facing a problem to converting my raw data(binary), which i got from my uploaded PDF file.  I try a few methods from SDN itself to make the raw file can be download to my local PC as images.
I already try to download the raw data, directly using FM GUI_DOWNLOAD, even though it is successfully downloaded to my local drive, but the file still cannot be opened. I debug a few program, which is use to download the bitmap inside the SAP directories to local directory but when i compared both debug data it's something differently written.
Is there any other way for me to solve this problem? It's there the a way for me to convert the PDF's raw data into bitmap first, before change convert them to binary and download them to my local drive?
Helping is a rewards. Thanks a lot.

  • 32 bit tiff files

Lightroom 5.4 has been blacking out the whole image of some of my 32 bit tiff files in the develop module and sometimes in the library module. Has anyone else encountered this problem?

... Why is the camera only able to produce a fraction of the total 16-bit depth?  Also, does this mean that if an image were 14/16 it would become 28/32 when converted?
The 16 bit channel is a carrier -- a standard 16-bit element.  The information content of those data bits depends on the source data; that is, the camera sensor.  A 16-bit container does not mean that any and all data placed therein has 16 bits of usable data.  Will an increase or decrease of 1 value in a range of 4096 values (12-bit) actually represent useful image data -- a real light level difference -- or just noise?   Larger, newer, and often more costly camera systems can discriminate between a greater number of steps from zero to maximum value; those that can discern a non-noise light level difference in a range up to 4096 (0 to 4095) use 12-bits; those that discriminate more than 4096 levels will require more than 12 bits.  I'm not a camera expert; but my guess would be that either there is limited if any need for 16 bits of camera sensor data capture (more than 32K steps in range) or that a camera providing such useable precision would be more expensive than the value of the added precision.

  • A generic error occurred in GDI+ while assing tiff image file to Bitmap and Image

    Hi,
I am getting "A generic error occurred in GDI+" error while reading the tiff image file to Bitmap or Image.
    Below is my sample code.
    string filePath=@"c:\Images\sample.tif";
    Bitmap bmp=new Bitmap(filePath);   // here getting exception
    int totalpages=bmp.GetFrameCount(.....);
    etc......
I tried using Bitmap.FromFile() and also from FromStream() even for Image also but there is no use.
Moreover i m having full permissions for the file path and the tiff file is having multiple pages.
Can anyone help me to solve this issue please.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Kishore

Make sure that the Tif file is valid (can other software open it)?  If you are able to save a Tif using GDI+, try saving that Tif, then opening it.  Part of me wonders if there is something about that specific Tif that GDI+ doesn't like.
You could also try using WIC to open the TIF, perhaps you would have better luck there.

  • Save as a 16 bit TIFF file for Enlarging?

Question, a local photo developer told me that if I wanted to develop my photos at something like 16 x 20 or larger I should save my photos as a 16 bit TIFF file. Elements 4.0 does not seem to allow me to set the bits at 16, just 8. Is there any truth to what they are saying?
Also isn't the file size going to be massive when doing this. Most likely prohibiting an upload to their site?
I am shooting with a Nikon D50 in RAW format. Obvioulsy I have to open it in Elements from Camera Raw as an 8 bit photo to save it in either TIFF or JPEG format.
    Any comments are appreciated.

    Thank you for your comment.
When I save the 16 bit file in ACR it saves it as a .dng file. When I open the .dng file in Elements again the raw editor opens it as a 8 bit file automatically. This may be all well and good if I can have enlargements made with this file type but not good if what the developer is telling me is true. ???????

  • Acrobat 9 automatically converts .TIFF files to .PDF - how do I disable?

Why is Acrobat 9 opening .TIFF files as a .PDF? I would like it to remain a .TIFF instead of autmoatcailly converting to a .PDF. This happens when I click on .TIFF images on the web, or save them as a .TIFF locally. I've not found an option under preferences that would toggle this. The dozen or so other workstations here do not behave this way (we have to go through a print-to-PDF converting process if we want to convert). Thanks!

Thanks for the fast reply! I checked and confirmed there are no TIFF viewer programs installed aside from Acrobat (and the defaul Microsoft Picture Viewer and Microsoft Document Viewer). Acrobat 9 is the default TIFF and TIF viewer too. Not much is installed on this machine. Here is a screen capture of the programs.

  • Is possible to Convert a 1 bit B&W Tiff image to a 16 Bit Greyscale Tiff image?

    Hi there,
I am trying to convert a 1 bit Black & White Tiff image to a 16 Bit Greyscale Tiff image, Anyone out there know if it is possible and how it may be done? We are using Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro Extended.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Cheers, Chris

Almost any graphic editor can do it, but it doesn't make a sense. The picture information remain the same - 1 bit. It has nothing to do with Acrobat.
