Convert a film negative to a positive file

Hello All,
I am photographing 2 1/4 negatives with a CANON 50D and macro lens. Then in Photoshop CS3 I was looking for the filter to convert the negative film file into a positive file so I can work on it with Adobe and then print in on my Canon printer.. I have tried to sample the orange base color and take that out and then invert and then increased the contrast curve. Can not get it right... Is there a way to do it with Adobe or is there a plug in to do this. Or is there a program on line to do this?
Thank You.
Robert Gladden.

Here's a curves based procedure for inverting color negatives that works
reasonably well:

  • Colour Film Negatives

    I have scanned some colour film negatives. As you will know, these have an orange overlay of the image.
    What is the best way to convert the scan to a positive colour image?
    I have CS6. The scans were done using my camera with macro lens illuminated from behind via a white opague screen by a TTL flash gun. The scans are saved as Nikon Raw Files. The negatives are 2.25" square and in most cases are on Kodacolor Film dating from around the 1960's.
    I have used this technique very successfully to copy monochrome negatives and colour slides.
    I know the invert does not work. The nearest I can get is to 'invert' then apply the 'auto tone' but the colours come out garish and not right.
    I also have a Nikon Coolscan V which can scan colour negatives and produce correct colour but only with 35mm film.
    Can anyone help me?

    Thank you for that. I and my many photographic friends just call it shooting in RAW and in Adobe Photoshop we just refer to it as the RAW converter.
    I also thank Adobe for their kind consideration of their customers. To think that having spent something like £600 on software that is unable to perform what I would expect to be a regular task amongst photographers and then to suggest they go and buy a quality scanner at what? Another £300 or more. I find very disappointing.
    I hope somebody from Adobe sees this comment because I note that it is virtually impossible to contact them direct. If one goes for support one is either directed into FAQs or this Community Chat Room.
    As you may gather, I am not a very happy customer.

  • Does DNG Converter support CFA DNG for X-Trans files?

    Does Adobe DNG Converter support the X-Trans sensor layout from ie. the X100S? Can converting an X-Trans sensor RAF file to to DNG result in a file that is _not_ in any way demosaiced and/or linearized?
    If DNG Converter truly does support conversion of X-Trans to CFA DNG files, how can the resulting files be so much smaller (when not linearizing or ticking lossy compression of the DNGs)? The RAF files are all around 32 MB, while the DNGs are around ~23 MB. Is it only a matter lossless compression, or is the mosaiced data in some way altered?
    If DNG Converter does support CFA DNG for X-Trans, at what DNG Converter version did you first implement support for the X-Trans sensor layout and conversion of X-Trans data to CFA DNG files?
    These are important questions that I'm having a hard time finding answers for. I'd appreciate answer to any (but preferably all) of the questions.

  • How to convert a .jsp to a .java/.class file for use in peoplesoft

    Hi java/jsp experts,
    I want to convert a .jsp to a .java/.class file. is there a tool available, please let me know if you have any pointers....
    or can i do it manually:
    these are a few lines that the .jsp contains, and i would like to translate this to be in .java/.class format:
    <%@ page import="sun.misc.BASE64Encoder, javax.crypto., javax.crypto.spec."%>
    <%@ page import="java.util.StringTokenizer" %>
    <%@ page import="java.util.Map" %>
    <%!
    sb.append("<input type=\"hidden\" name=\"orderPage_serialNumber\" value=\"");
    sb.append(serialNumber);
    sb.append("\">\n");
    return sb.toString();
    %>
    how can i translate the above import statements and html elements from jsp to java, please let me know.
    Once i have the .java file created from the .jsp, I will compile .java to create the .class file and invoke the .class in peoplecode by using java apis available in peopletools.
    Thanks in advance.

    Is there a way convert a binary .exe file( compiled by
    another compiler) into Java .class/.jar file ? Anyone
    know of a free program that can do this?It's not possible. There are many decompilers and disassemblers for Java but nothing will take you from ANY binary to Java source. It would be the end of computing as we know it and the beginning of a new era -:)

  • Convert Multiple Outlook Emails to Multiple PDF Files (Not Portfolio or Single PDF) for Archiving?

    Hi all, I am learning how to convert emails to PDF files and there is some great functionality there!!  I have not discovered how to convert multiple outlook emails into multiple PDF files (one PDF file for each email) - all at the same time (not one at a time)!!  Is there a way to do this using Acrobat X??  The purpose of this is for long-term business archiving.  When I search for an email in the archive, I do not want to pull up a portfolio containing 1000 emails or a 1000 page PDF file with multiple emails run together!!!  I want to pull up individual emails containing my search terms.  I have been searching for a way to archive emails and MS OUTLOOK .PST files are NOT the answer.  I get a lot of business emails with large attachments and I do not file my emails in separate sub-folders (by client or job).  I want to convert multiple emails (by date range) from my UNIVERSAL INBOX into multiple PDF files for long term storage (with each email being converted into its own, separate PDF file and named with the same name as the "Re: line" of the email).  This has been a HUGE problem for me....and Acrobat is sooooo close to the solution for me.  Can anyone help??  If so, will attachments be converted?  If not, is there a separate software program or add-in that I can buy that will do this??  I use MS Office 2010, Adobe Acrobat X Pro, Windows 7 64 BIT.  Thanks for your help!!

    I am a retired person and did'nt realize I already have a Adobe account, so you can scrap the entire information. Thanks for the trial anyway and have a great week.

  • What are my options for opening EPS files in Elements 13? What is the best way to convert these to another type of vector file?

    I "upgraded" from Photoshop Elements... uh... mad old... to Elements 13 when my work computer got "upgraded" to Win8. Now I can't open EPS files which is how I receive collateral from our ad agency. What other vector files will work, and how can I convert EPS to these? Please be gentle if this is a stupid question - I know enough to be dangerous, but I'm not an expert at design by any means. I'm just frustrated because this isn't quite the "dead" file type that Adobe thinks it is. What was the point of upgrading if I'm pretty much left in the lurch?
    Thanks to any and all who can help! Much appreciated . -ASI

    What's important to understand is that Elements is a 'pixel' editor, not a 'vector' editor. As such, it has very limited 'vector' capacity (fonts, shapes...) What you are missing from older versions is the ability to convert vector items to standard pixel image file. To be able to open and work on eps files, you'd need Adobe Illustrator, which seems overkill for your purpose.
    So, your options are:
    - to request your ad agency to supply pdf format images instead of eps ones. My guess is that eps is beeing largely superseded by pdf, but I am not sure...
    - Use external tools to convert from eps to jpeg; a Google search would return free softwares like Irfanview or web based conversion.
    - You might want to keep (or reinstall) older Elements versions just for that purpose.

  • Acrobat X 10.02 crashes when converting Word 2007 document wiht linked Visio file.

    Acrobat X 10.02 crashes when converting Word 2007 document with linked Visio file and causes a C++ runtime error in Word and crashes Word.
    To see the behavior create a short Word 2007 document with a linked Visio file (e.g., create a Visio file with one box and text and insert it as a link into a Word docx).
    No problem in Acrobat 9

    There may be some of an issue with AA X on this, but part of the blame probably goes to MS also. I would suggest you simply clip the graphic from VISIO as a vector graphic (EMF will be used by default) and not do the link and do not embed the VISIO object. The linking and use of embedded objects in WORD 2007 seems to have been a major problem and is mostly a MS issue.

  • Convert created idoc to an output text file

    Hi,
    How can i convert an idoc to an output text file? is there a standard program in SAP that does this?
    Thanks,
    Tots

    Hi,
    We can do it.
    The steps are
    1. Create a xml file port (we21)
      2. Create a partner profile point to the file port.
      3. Make sure the idocs are genereated.
    4  . Run the staandard program (RSEOUT001) with the port and required details in teh selection screen.
    The idocs will be generated to a xml file .
