Convert aac to mp3

I purchased an album from itunes and can't play it on my mp3 player because it is m4a

Squizzit,
You can use iTunes to convert the file to MP3:
iTunes: How to convert a song to a different file format
For future reference, unless you enjoying buying songs in the wrong format and converting them, you will find it easier to buy songs in MP3 in the first place, at an online retailer such as Amazon MP3.

  • How to convert AAC to MP3 in iTunes

I sent a friend of mine a song in the AAC format; I had thought that format was universally acceptable. Unfortunately, my friend said that she couldn't open the file. I then thought of converting the file to the MP3 format, because I know she can read that. This gets to my question: How do you do it? When I highlighted the song and clicked on Advanced, the only option was to convert to AAC. That's when I decided to come here. Is there a way to convert AAC to MP3 with iTunes? Also, how widespread is the acceptance of AAC?

You got the process correct, it
is just that iTunes only offers you the option to
convert to whatever your preferences are currently
    set to for importing.
So go to preferences, importing, set it to MP3. then
go to your song and you can now use the "Convert
to..." option which should show MP3. Once done, go
back to preferences and switch back to AAC if that is
what you normally want to use.

That was fast. Anyway, it worked. Thanks for your help. Now, all I have to do is to work-out what combination of factors I should use to obtain the smallest possible MP3 file while maintaining decent quality. It's an individual decision. What would be okay for me, might be intolerable to others, but I want to keep all sound files less than 1 MB. Make that, "all sound files that I send". I hope that doesn't mean that I will have to keep duplicate files. We'll just have to see. Anyway, thanks again.

  • Convert aac to mp3; copy in new location?

Most of my music is ripped into iTunes as AAC.
Have an MP3 (no AAC/MP4 capability) player I want to move music to. Have figured out I can convert the selections to MP3, burn to a CD, and then copy to the MP3 player (it doesn't show up in iTunes). Problem is, everything I convert to MP3, the copies show up in the main music library right by the originals. How can I get the copies into some other directory, as I only want them for copying into the MP3 player?
    thankx in advance
    -Bruce_

There's no way to just drag the files to Toast and have them converted.
If they are unprotected AAC files you can convert them in iTunes.
Go to Preferences>Advanced>Importing and make sure that you've set it to mp3. Then, select the song(s) you want to convert. From the Advanced menu choose Convert Selection to mp3. This will create a second file in mp3 format.
If they are Protected AAC files, you can burn them to an audio CD in iTunes and use them it as you would any other audio CD.

  • Converting aac or mp3 to "media kind" podcast doesn't appear in iphone 4

Hello. I finally discovered you can convert an aac or mp3 file to media kind choosing podcasting which is great for bookmarking audio etc. I hate having to start over form a long audio file listening back. Coverting to podcast was a great solution. Now my problem is synching to my iphone 4 and making sure podcast synch is checked off, etc i see nothing in my podcast director on the phone, it says its empy, but if i go to artist and search for the name it appears under podcasts! Is this some sort of glitch with iphone 4 or new itunes? Anyone else have this problem? If i got back and convert all to "audiobooks" instead of podcasts and synch phone they appear correct in the audiobook section of the phone. I'd rather use the podcast directory but this will work for now. Thoughts? Thanks

  • Itunes 11.1.3 on Mavericks: Can't convert AAC to MP3

Select an AAC file, right clock, and the conversion option in the menu is "Convert To AAC". Yeah, both my cars want MP3s there, sport.
Clicked it anyway in case it was just the menu text that was glitched, but, nope. it created another AAC file.
Anyone else run into this? Not quite sure what to kick, or if kicking is in fact helpful. Suppose I can go old school and burn an actual audio CD.
Note: Bluetooth connection mandatory in all future cars.

    Hi,
You need to change import preferences. Go to preference > import settings and change from AAC to mp3.

  • Convert AAC into mp3 files?

Hi all my music is in i tunes and I want to put some onto a 2 gb memory stick so that I can play it in my cay unfortuantly it only accepts MP3 files does any one know how I convert them .
    Many Thanks

Yes. When you convert them to MP3s the original AAC versions will still be in your library as well.  Anyways, once they have been converrted, locate these newly converted tracks on your HD and copy them over to the memory stick.

  • Converting aac to mp3 for a cd

    Hello
Is t possible to convert my iTunes library (aac format) to mp3 in order to burn a mp3-cd? I couldn't do it, iTunes tells me that none of the songs are in mp3 format. Do I have to bring all the cd's again to my library in mp3-format? There's 7 gigabits of stuff so it'll take a while if that's the case...

Before I go into detail, with store bought Songs from iTUnes, there in a "AAC protected format" and can not be converted, you have to first burn them to a audio CD, then "Re"import them as MP3
For all other songs you will first goto edit>preferences>Advanced tab>importing sub tab and set it to MP3 and the bit rate you choose (Usually a high bit rate is better when converting songs from AAC or other formats)
With that done you can rightclick each song one by one and hit "Convert to MP3" or you can select/highlight one song, hold the shift key, and select the last song, this will highlight every song inbetween the first and last song (More on iTUnes shortcut keys here http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/windows/shortcuts/ ) When you convert songs like this iTUnes will list 2 of the same song, one is the original, the second one will be the converted file

  • Converting AAC to MP3

I have a handful of albums that I imported at 128 bitrate AAC format. If I right click and "create MP3 version" what will determine their bitrate? If I can increase the bitrate to 256 or 320, will this improve the quality of the audio? The CDs were in a CD binder in my trunk for a while, a few fell out and got pretty scratched up, not likely to be usable anymore. Not going to try to reimport them.

Actually, I just did it and the bitrate is 256 for the MP3 version. I don't hear any improvement in sound, but the file size is twice that of the 128 AAC file.

  • How to convert lossless audio files in itunes to AAC or mp3 in itunes 10

i noticed some files won't upload to my kids older ipod shuffle (2nd). they are the larger less or uncompressed file types.
i've got itunes 10 and there is no way to convert the files to AAC or mp3 that i can see. these are files in my library. i would like to create a playlist for his ipod in AAC: from library to playlist

This explains how to covert song files.  It works in iTunes 10.  You set the import preference to the file type you want and the Advanced menu > Create  XXX Version will change to match.

  • Converting AAc files to mp3

I loaded all my CDs into iTunes as AAC files. There are a select few somgs that I'd like to turn into mp3s to be loaded into another device. Is there a simple way to do this within iTunes, or am I just better off re-importing them (there aren't that many).
    Thanks in advance
    Steve Denvir

    Steve.
If your CDs were imported as AAC files, you can convert them to MP3 as follows:
    1. In the iTunes menu, go to Preferences > Advanced and change Import Using AAC Encoder to Import Using MP3 Encoder. That setting controls both importing and converting.
    2. Select the song you want converted and go to the advanced menu and select "Convert Selection to MPs". You will end up with both an AAC version (AAC audio file) and an MP3 version (MPEG audio file).
    3. After you are finished converting, go back to the Preferences > Advanced and change back to Import Using AAC Encoder.

  • Problem converting AAC (non protected) to MP3, weird issue

    Hi,
I have the latest version of iTunes running on a iMac G5 running Tiger. iTunes is set up as default to AAC format for songs added. I want to convert something to MP3 and when I right click on it, it says convert to AAC not MP3. Anything I right click on says the same yet they are non protected AAC files. I also have a windows machine running the latest verstion of iTunes and on that one it works correctly. Any idea what is wrong?
    Thanks,
    Mike

    Mike,
    In iTunes go to preferences>advanced>importing.
Then select mp3 from the Import Using menu.
Choose the bitrate you want the mp3 files to at. (make sure this is equal to or less than the bitrate of the aac file)
Right click a aac song and choose convert to mp3

  • CONVERT from iTunes to other FORMATS (AAC, AIFF, MP3, WAV)

Came across a problem in trying to get music purchased from iTunes to be recognized by other media players (Quicktime or Final Cut Express). I found how to get iTunes to export to cd/dvd disks in AIFF format (and other formats).
    Steps used:
    From iTunes:
Create a new playlist folder in iTunes (under file)
Drop the songs you wished to use into the playlist folder
Go to the iTunes main menu,
    select 'Preferences'
    select 'Advanced'
    select 'Import'
using "Import Using" select the format (AAC, AIFF, MP3, WAV) you desire
Input your CD/DVD disk to burn
highlight your Playlist file in iTunes that you want to convert
    select 'File' in iTunes,
    select "Burn Playlist to disc"
What you end up with is a CD/DVD with the music files in the format you selected -(I needed AIFF) from there you can use the disk or copy your converted files back into Final Cut or other software for use.
Hope this helps others having similar issues

Have you tried other formats, besides AIFF?
You can only burn purchased music to an
    b Audio CD
and the Finder will tell you the files are AIFF. Actually the files on an Audio CD are PCM, but Mac OS 'sees' them as AIFF.
You can't convert purchased music in other formats, because it's protected.
