Convert Appleworks 5

MacLink no longer exists. You can't print a file you can't open. Is there ANY way to convert ab Applworks 5 file?
- ichael D.

Word Processing documents can be opened directly only in Pages.
Draw Documents can be opened directly only in EazyDraw (the more expensive version from their website, not the cheaper one from the Mac App Store, and you will need v4.0 'Retro' not the most recent version) or Intaglio (though this appears not to be able to handle very complex drawings).
Spreadsheets can be opened directly only in Numbers.
Presentations can be opened directly only in Keynote.
To use other programs, or open Painting or Database documents at all, you must export from AppleWorks first. Nothing other than AppleWorks can open AppleWorks databases.

  • I have held on to AppleWorks for as long as possible but Lion no longer supports it. Is there an app out there that converts AppleWorks to something Lion recognizes?

HELP!  I have held on to AppleWorks for as long as possible but Lion no longer supports it. Is there an app out there that converts AppleWorks to something Lion recognizes?

You can use Apple's iWorks suite of programs (Pages, Numbers, and Keynote) to do most of it in Lion.
Pages will open AppleWorks 6 word processing documents.
Numbers will open AW 6 spreadsheets.
Keynote will open AW 6 presentations.
You may already have those apps on your machine if you acquired it recently. If not, you can get them individually from the Mac Apple Store via download at about US$20 each; or on disk from the Apple Store for about US$80.
Note - with regard to word processing documents, Pages will open AW 6 versions, but not any earlier versions (such as AW 5 or ClarisWorks). So, be sure to update all you docs to AW 6 before transferring them to the Lion-booted machine.

  • How can I convert Appleworks files to Pages?

I have old Power PC files, some Appleworks, some ClarisWorks.
I have been exporting them to another Mac to convert. Is there a way to convert them on my current system?
    Mavericks? (which I regret)

Install Snow Leopard Server into Parallels and have Appleworks operate concurrently with Mavericks:

  • Problem in converting AppleWorks into RTF

    Hi!
I have a bunch of .cwk files (AppleWorks) that I need to convert into RTF format.
In the script I use I have a proble with the following code:
    tell application "AppleWorks"
    activate
    open MonFichier
save MonFichier in file (dossier & name_Fich & ".rtf") as file type "RTF" using translator "RTF"
    close MonFichier saving no
    end tell
After execution I end up with a brand new file with .rtf extension but that is not a RTF file. If I try to open it with Textedit it does not open. Strangely enough, if I open the cwk file manually and save it as RTF manually, everything is fine....
Can someone help me on this?
    Pascal

    Hello Pascal,
I think you're seeing the known problem of AppleScript 2.0 used with some old program such as AppleWorks 6.
Briefly, AW6's translator name parameter must be in plain string not Unicode text while all text literal is Unicode text in AppleScript 2.0.
A workaround is to use data literal of class TEXT. Something like the following code.
    --CODE
    tell application "AppleWorks 6"
    open MonFichier
    tell document 1
    save in file (dossier & name_Fich & ".rtf") using translator «data TEXT525446» -- "RTF"
    close saving no
    end tell
    end tell
    --END OF CODE
    cf.

  • Way to convert Appleworks 5 docs to Pages

I have hundreds and hundreds of word processing documents in Appleworks that can not be opened by Pages using OS 10.7.5. These documents go back many years.
What's the best way to convert them into Pages documents? My wife has a machine running OS 10.6.8, so I believe they would open on her computer in Appleworks and be saved as an Appleworks 6 document which could then be opened by Pages. Do I need to go through all my folders manually to find the Appleworks 5 and earlier documents, copy them to a flashdrive, open them on my wife's computer, create the Pages documents and then transfer them back to my machine? I'm hoping there is an easier way!
Thanks for any help or advice that people can provide.

Yvan Koenig has written many AppleScripts over the years & he recently added all of his AppleWorks scripts to his box.com account. All of his scripts have directions in English & French at the beginning of the script when you open the scripts in AppleScript Editor.
There are several iWork & Pages folders to take a look at. I don't see anything that might work in the iWork '09 folder, but there is another iWork folder further down on the page with more folds inside.

  • Batch convert appleworks to pdf in same folder

I need a script that will work in 10.5.8 on a powerPC machine (iBook G4) that will allow me to scan the entire drive for Appleworks documents, open them in AppleWorks, print to PDF, apply the same name and save in the same folder.
A bonus would be to also delete the original AppleWorks file while it's at it.
Anyone written something like this? I see some solutions that batch convert to PDF into a default folder - all I need is to save in the original file folder and delete the original doc. Of course I will be making a clone of the afected system beforehand.
Thanks in advance for any responses,
    M

    Two snags with that script:
    - it does not put the PDF in the folder the original file came from
    - it aborts if there is a message about contents not fitting on PDF print area
    ANy suggestions on either?

  • Powerbook 1400cs convert appleworks 5 to anything

Can anyone help me out? I have a Appleworks 5 databases and want to convert to them to anything else, for example: PC access . My Powerbook is NOt connected to Internet and has only floppies.
    Thanks, maria

Save the databases as spreadsheets. Use a layout that shows all fields, and then show all records. Select All and drag the selection to an open spreadsheet window. AW5 can convert them to Excel. E-mail the Excel files to your PC. To make things easier at the far end, create an extra record and copy each field title into its respective field, because the field titles won't transfer.

  • Converting appleworks document into jpeg - image quality

I am createing a project with some students where we have video taped book reviews. They have then created awards for these books using Applework 6.
I have had the kids save the certificates as jpeg2000 files using the best quality.
When I drag and drop the file into my iMoive - the image quality is really fuzzy.
    1. Do I need to resize this image and if so what is the optimal size for iMovie?
    2. Can I do this easily using iphoto or do I need a graphic converter?
Hope someone can help. Thanks Michael H.

iMovie is a DV editing app and anything imported to it must either already be .dv or it will be converted to .dv file format.
Your still image file will be turned into 30 frame per second "video" and also resized to NTSC dimensions.
QuickTime Pro can open image formats and can be used to make "movies". These are not dimensions limited and look just fine on a computer. Since the image is not rendered as "video" a single image file can stay one the screen as long as you like. Hundreds of times smaller in file size, too. Some of mine:

AppleWorks 6.2.9 on my Mac offers these file format options (for word processing documents) in the popup menu at the lower left of the Save As dialogue:
The Word translators come from DataViz, and were supplied with some versions of AppleWorks 6.

  • Pages -- how do I access, convert AppleWorks docs?

Hello.  I have numerous AppleWorks docs which, I conveniently found out after upgrading to Yosemite, will not open.  I downloaded Pages -- which also refuses to recognize docs created by Apple's prior word processing software.  So how can I access these docs, convert them to Pages-recognizable docs?  Thank you.

The only way to deal with this is either use the iWork '09 n.3 applications on Yosemite, or install LibreOffice, which will open these files. From the LibreOffice installer, drag and drop it into /Applications. RIght click on the LibreOffice icon, and open. In the open dialog, choose open again. Drag the LibreOffice icon to your Dock and drop. Drag/drop your AppleWorks documents on the LibreOffice Dock icon.
LibreOffice is an MS Office replacement suite.

  • Converting Appleworks 6.2.3 documents created on an iMac OS 9.0.4. to Pages on my new MacBook Pro OS 10.8.3.

I have many Appleworks 6.2.3 documents created on an iMac OS 9.0.4.  I want to convert these files to Pages on my new MacBook Pro OS 10.8.3. so I can share the documents with newer computers that use Microsoft Word.  How do I do this?  Pages can't read my Appleworks documents.  When I try to open the older document with Pages, the window says, "The document “Name” couldn’t be opened."   These older documents show up on my new computer as Unix Executable Files. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Converting AppleWorks files for the future

I have an old eMac that can still open older files. I have a few CDs of various files I have saved over the years that I am trying to convert to formats that will be readable in the future...IE archives, Compact Pro archives, and of course AppleWorks files.
My question is if there is any format that will preserve formatting (boldface, type sizes, etc.) that is likely to be readable in the future? I'm ooking for something editable and more lightweight than PDF.
I thought RTF would be a good choice, but it seems that every app has its own interpretation of RTF. For example, formatted AppleWorks files converted to RTF do NOT preserve formatting when opened in Apple's Preview.
