Convert ASM single instance to RAC ASM instance...

Hi, all
Im installing OracleDatabase with RAC and I got an error on the Database Configuration Assistant that says "The ASM instance configured on the local node is a single instance. To manage this instance as a single-instance ASM restart DBCA and select the single instance database option. To manage this instance as RAC ASM, convert it to RAC ASM first".
How I can convert it??
Thanks

See the link below for converting a single instance ASM to RAC ASM. The link is to the Oracle® Database Oracle Clusterware and Oracle Real Application Clusters Installation Guide for Linux. If your platform is not Linux, check the Install Guide for your OS.

  • Single-Instance ASM to RAC ASM !!

    At the moment i am in process to create a RAC ASM instance on two nodes. When i was creating ASM instance it gave me error that unable to connect to crsd on Node2.
    So i manually added asm instance using srvctl on node2. It is registered with CRS but it is not online. I tried starting up by using crs_start or srvctl start asm but asm resource is down on both the nodes.
    I have started up manually both the ASM instance and created some Diskgroups, Now i have to create a RAC enabled DB for which it is showing convert single-instance ASM to RAC ASM.
    What needs to be done.

    Hi
    because the service ASM was added individually the crs stack is unable to recognise the clustering of ASM. In fact this has just made the ASM on two nodes function as two seperate ASM instances. They were never clustered. So i think convertion is one option. I came here while looking for one such doc. My 10.2.0.1 RAC install on windows 2003 went on a toss.. while dbca was trying to set up the clustered ASM and configure the instance, the primary node crashed and when it was recovered, i could notice the ASM instance is created on one node only.. When i try to invoke dbca again, neither am allowed to create an ASM instance for RAC/convert the existing one to RAC. Until now what I have found is that if such case arise, the quicker way is to revert everything back, clean up the server of clusterware and re install every thing... but before am looking for my options..
    does any body have an idea? please share

  • Convert single instance in Rac

    Hello experts, I have already configured a cluster database between two nodes with a RAC database named Cars. Also I have a single instance database named Persons in the first of the nodes. Now I need convert this single instance(Persons) in a Rac database, that is I want to have two RAC database(Cars and the new Persons).
    Thank you very much in advance.

    Oracle provides following methods to convert a single instance database to RAC:
    Grid Control
    DBCA
    Manual
    RCONFIG(from 10gR2)

    for converting your filesystem to asm use RMAN:

  • Converting single ASM to RAC ASM

    How i can convert single ASM to RAC ASM?

    ASM1 is the name of single and clustered names as ASM1 +ASM2, now what is suggestion? I can shutdown single instance ASM. If ASM Is up , it should not delet , right???

  • Rconfig: converting a single instance to RAC instance

    Hi,
    I am trying to use the "rconfig" utility to convert a single instance to a RAC instance in an existing RAC cluster.
    I have modified the .xml file, and am trying to run the conversion from the 1st node in the 2 node cluster (where the single instance resides).
    The only error message i seem to be getting is below:
    <Response>
    <Result code="1" >
    Operation Failed
    </Result>
    <ErrorDetails>
    ORCL_DATA_ORCLCLN The specified diskgroup is not mounted.
    </ErrorDetails>
    </Response>
    </Convert>
    </ConvertToRAC></RConfig>
    Now I dont really understand why I would be getting that message as the instance is up and running and ASM disk group is mounted on node1 at the time i run the rconfig command, though its not clear to me if I also need to somehow mount the ASM disk group on the second node prior to running the rconfig command??
    node1:

    I have attached the output of the alert log during the rconfig conversion of the target database, but it all looks pretty standard to me (keep in mind i am an oracle novice!).

    Ok,
    So I managed to get the disk group mounted on the second node, and re-ran the rconfig process.
    I got a little further, but encountered another error which is displayed below:
    -bash-3.00$ rconfig racconv.xml
    <?xml version="1.0" ?>

    I am not using a shared oracle home, each node in the cluster has its own oracle installation residing on local disk. Is a shared oracle home a pre-requisite for usin rconfig?

    here is detail:
    DB server =db1
    installed oracle binary for non-RAC-oracle 11gr2.
    installed oracle binary for rac-oracle and grid V 11gr2
    dATABASE is running in non-rac oracle with ASM. I want to convert from Oracle single instance to RAC instance on same server on Linux RHEL5.4 platform.

  • Convert 11.1.0.7 EBS 12.1.3 single node to RAC with ASM on 11.2.0.3 cluster

    Hi
    I am trying to convert a single node 11.1.0.7 database with EBS 12.1.3 version from single to 2-node RAC ASM on Oracle clusterware 11.2.0.3 on AIX 6.1 - 64 bit
    I am following Oracle metalink document note id 466649.1 . My 11.2.0.3 clusterware is already setup correctly and working fine as per document E24614-03.
    However I am currently stuck in section 3.3:Configure TNS listener (Doc id : 466649.1) . The netca is unable to start the listener and failing with error as below.
    However when I start the same locally from lsnrctl command listener starts.

    I am trying to convert a single node 11.1.0.7 database with EBS 12.1.3 version from single to 2-node RAC ASM on Oracle clusterware 11.2.0.3 on AIX 6.1 - 64 bit You don't need to create listeners, after installing 11203 cluster there will be LISTENER running from $GRID_HOME
    along with SCAN_LISTENERS

  • Configure ASM Instance in RAC cluster - problem

    Linux RH4 with Oracle 11.1.0.6
    I previously had ASM working in a RAC environment, but have uninstalled on all 3 nodes following Oracle guidelines.
    When I attempt to re-configure ASM it states that an ASM instance is located in nodes 2 and 3. Previous ASM software has been removed, and there are no entries in the /etc/oratab files on any of the nodes.
    How do I locate and then remove these instances on nodes 2 and 3
    Thanks

    Steps in Note 311350.1 have been followed, and there are no occurances of ASM appearing in the crs_stat output. Also the fact that the ASM software has also been removed from all of the various, where are these ASM instances being started?
    I am unable to proceed past the "Select Configuration Screen" which gives you the option to 1)Create Database, 2)Configure ASM or 3) Install Software only.
    When I select option 2 and enter ASM SYS password, I get the error message that ASM instances are present in the other nodes.
    Would appreciate any help in how I can progress past this stage.
    Thanks

  • Help while creating ASM instance on rac environment on Linux

    Help while creating ASM instance on rac environment on Oracle enterprise Linux 4 x84_64 Update 5 (10g2).
    a) Installed ASMLib 2.0 Packages
    b) Configured and Loaded the ASMLib 2.0 Packages
    c) Created ASM Disks for Oracle
    d) I can see, three volumes already defined for ASM file system.
    By running following command (on both node), I get following that means disk are detected.
    /etc/init.d/oracleasm listdisks
    VOL1
    VOL2
    VOL3
    But Disk members not displayed for creating disk groups. I even tried to "Change Disk Discovery Path" button and put "ORCL:VOL*" but still no luck.
    Someone told me use, use ADD DISKS button but this button is disabled for me.
    Can anyone, please help me if I missing something.

    *****SOLVED******
    Thanks for reply..
    I set the Change Disk Discovery Path" to /dev/oracleasm/disk/* instead of "ORCL:VOL* and this worked for me.

  • How to convert from single instance to RAC?

    Hi, I have one environment it is version is 10.2.0.4 in linux SUSE.
    I decided to move this environment to 10.2.0.4 Real applicaiton cluster has two nodes in linux red-hat.
    Firstly,
    I install 10.2.0.1 rac on two new machine in linux red hat.
    Then I upgrade my rac to 10.2.0.4 from 10.2.0.
    Now I want to move the single instance to RAC,
    Is there an anathoer way that different from export , import?

    Besides the obvious Export-Import which do not want to consider (although it would be the neatest method !), look the 4th conversion scenario under paragraph D.3.2 "Single-Instance to RAC Conversion Scenarios" at
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b14203/cvrt2rac.htm#BABFCAHF
    The 4th conversion scenario is "Converting a single-instance Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2) to an 10g Release 2 (10.2) RAC database, running out of a different Oracle home, and where the host where the single-instance database is running is not one of the nodes of the RAC database".

  • How to clean the asm instance from RAC manually

    for some reason i run crs_unregister asm and crs_unregister lsnr to remove the asm and listener resource from crs yesterday

    DBCA could not startup the ASM instance on node: rac1. Manual intervention is required to recreate these instances. If you choose to proceed, ASM diskgroups will not be mounted on non-started remote ASM instances. Do you want to proceed with ASM diskgroup management?
    and problem is how to do this "Manual intervention is required to recreate these instances", I already do 1, dd the asm disk, 2, remove the +ASM directory from $ORACLE_BASE, 3,clean ASM info from /etc/oratab, so what i can do next ?
    i try restart crs ,now the error info is different !!

    Hi,
    Can you post the dbca log?
    and do you share the asm home with oracle home? if it is separated then add LISTENER_+ASM1 in tnsnames in ASMHOME, otherwise add it in ORACLEHOME

  • Migrate from single instance to RAC manually

    Hi,
    I have a 10g database running in single instance.I have installed grid 11.2.0.2 in two nodes including the node where current instance is running,I have installed 10g again in a seperate mount point in both the nodes .It has the same patches as single instance 10g home.Now how to migrate from single instance to RAC manually.
    Thanks,
    Sekar

    -restore this database into 11g ASM if its not already on ASM.
    -upgrade this database to 11g from 10g on single instance.
    -Now Converting Single Instance on a Cluster to Oracle RAC ,here you have different option to perform this once its 11g database after upgrade.
    using rconfig
    using dbca or manually.

    I noticed that it's trying to create the datafile. Shouldn't it be giving me a "Restoring datafiles from backup piece" clause? Also it appears to be trying to recreate the datafiles in their old location. Any thoughts on how to get around this.
    Using the db_file_name_convert does allow me to restore files to the filesystem, but they use names such as "omf_*" and I'm not sure if it's converting the files properly from ASM format.

    Hi,
    I assume your problem is either in your pfile ( but you indicate you have removed all RAC settings), or in your control file.
    I would recommend to remove the control files and create them later as soon as the datafiles have been restored, using the commands:
    STARTUP NOMOUNT
    CREATE CONTROLFILE REUSE DATABASE "OMST01" NORESETLOGS FORCE LOGGING NOARCHIVELOG
    -- SET STANDBY TO MAXIMIZE PERFORMANCE
    MAXLOGFILES 100
    MAXLOGMEMBERS 2
    MAXDATAFILES 1024
    MAXINSTANCES 8
    MAXLOGHISTORY 10210
    LOGFILE
    < your logfiles >
    DATAFILE
    < your datafiles >
    CHARACTER SET <your character set>;So the steps are
    Startup nomount with the pfile
    Restore the datafiles using rman
    Shutdown the database
    Use above script to create the control files
    It is possible you need to use the RESETLOGS option instead of the NORESETLOGS
