Convert Cap 7 project to Cap 8 Responsive project

Is there a way to convert a Captivate 7 project to a Captivate 8 Responsive design project without having to rebuild the entire project? I have a number of projects that I would like to make over as responsive design projects, but don't have the time to redo them all.
Suggestions . . . .?

No way. You can use the assets (images, audio files...) from the Library of the original file, but a responsive project is a totally different beast. You also have to be careful with themes: only the themes provided with Captivate 8 are responsive.

  • Blank Projects vs. Responsive Projects

I normally develop using the Captivate Blank Project as my customers are not normally concerned about responsiveness yet. However, I may be soon working for a new customer that may. So, I wanted to know a few things. 1. Can I make a Blank Project Responsive?
    2. If so, what is the best way of going about this?
    3. If so, would I have to make sure that all graphics were vector graphics?
    3. If not and only the Responsive Project format publishes responsive projects, again must all graphics used be vector graphics for the project to be responsive?
    Thanks!

Thank you for your quick reply. Another question - With a blank project you are able to set the most desired size, but on my initial look at the Responsive Project, it does not appear to allow a user to select a size. Just takes one into 1024 x 627. Am I missing something with the sizing? Is there another place to set a size other than the 1024 X 627, if desired, or are all of the different screens (Primary, Mobile, and phone set at what's considered a standard, but the responsiveness aspect will allow it to do any larger, smaller, or non-standard size (say 1000 x 700)?

  • Captivate 8: Can you convert a responsive project to a non-responsive project?

My co-worker created a responsive project, but she didn't really understand the use case for responsive design, and now we have a bunch of learners who can't view the HTML5 (they have antiquated browsers that they cannot update) and I need a quick fix. Is there a way to switch over the Flash\html5 version?
I have to fix this tonight before I can go home, (my co-worker is conveniently on vacation). Can anyone help?
    Thanks!

    Hi there
Unfortunately there is no "flip a switch" and convert from responsive to normal.
What you are faced with is carefully re-creating each slide with the elements on the responsive slides.

  • Convert a blank project to responsive project

Hi, I have created a tutorial in captivate 8. I created it in 'blank project' as I was a new user. I am wondering if there is any way I can change it to a responsive project. Please Help ASAP! Thank you in anticipation.
Hoping to hear from you soon
    Regards
    Simi

    Hi Simi,
You can follow below steps to make your content as responsive.
    1) Create a new responsive project.
    2) Copy all the slides from your existing blank project and paste them in the responsive project.
    3) You can change the object size, position and other things in tablet and mobile view as per your need.
    4) Publish and access it from different devices.
    Regards,

  • How to manage, to insert phone gesture in cp8 responsive project ?

l tried to convert a responsive cp 8 project into an App, with phonegapbuild. Marvellous, it works. But does anyone have ever tried those phone gestures ? Ok, I checked the appropriate window, but how can I manage my slides to swipe frm one to another ? I tried  to put a click box above the slide but it doesn't work. Can't find any tutorial about "How to insert phone gesture..." thanks a lo

    Thanks for your reply, Lilybiri.
In Responsive Project, the default size of Tablet is 768(W) x 627(H), so, since the width is larger than the height, I thought that you'd want to hold the tablet horizontally in order to see the 768(W) x 627(H) (which appears to me to be landscape) layout. But now it occurs to me, after reading your message, that the 768(W) x 627(H) layout of the tablet is viewed by holding the tablet vertically, and that when the tablet is held horizontally, the layout is automatically switched to the Primary view. Is that so?
The reason I want to change the primary view to portrait is that I want to create a tutorial based on some PDF pages which are in portrait layout. I convert those PDF pages to individual images using Acrobat Professional, then import them into Captivate. But I realize that the viewers would have to scroll down to see the lower part of the page.

  • Inline video playback for Apple devices in responsive projects (Captivate 8)

    Hello,
I know that Captivate itself does not support inline browser playback for videos on Apple devices, but I was wondering if there might be a way to edit the HTML of a responsive project to add inline playback tags (like the ones listed here).  Or maybe some other solution that accomplishes the same goal?
The context is that I will be developing 45 minute course (heavily animated) that my organization wants to be mobile-optimized.  I'm developing all animations in Flash and converting to mp4, and then inserting those into my Captivate project.  There will be about 100 slides worth of videos, which would be unbelievably tedious for the user if they had to keep toggling back and forth between their browser and the native Apple video player.  For the record, I've already experimented with converting these into HTML5 content and inserting them into Captivate as web objects, but that's no good since the <iframe> tag forces those objects to the top, regardless of my stack order in the timeline.
    So any creative solutions?
    Thanks in advance!
    Dan

That's unfortunately not really correct.  I don't care about user navigation from slide to slide--I actually like the fact that the user has to use the next and back buttons and I would actually prefer that the next video didn't auto-play when the previous one finished.
Let me back up for a second.  When you go to YouTube on your iPhone, you can't just push play on a video and watch it in the browser.  The video loads into an iOS shell and you often have to exit out of that shell in order to get back toYouTube.  In my course, I don't want the videos to play in that shell (i.e. a new window, which is what's happening now).  I want it to play directly in the browser.  This is indeed possible outside of Captivate (per the link I included in my initial question).  I want to know how to add that functionality to a responsive project in Captivate.
    Does that make more sense?

  • How to create portrait (vertical) page layout in Captivate 8's Responsive Project?

In Cp8's Responsive Project feature, the page layout for "Primary" and "Tablet" are landscape. What if I want to create slides of a portrait (vertical) layout? In the "Primary" (PC) layout, I've tried to dragged the border of the stage to the minimum width and the maximum height allowed. But it doesn't seem to me like the right solution.

    Thanks for your reply, Lilybiri.

  • Text caption height in responsive project is not automatically resizing

    Hi all,
I have a Captivate 8 responsive project in which a text caption is not behaving properly. When I get down to smartphone-sized screens the width of the text caption reduces with the width of the device. But, the height of the text caption does not increase accordingly to fit the content. The text just gets cut off at the bottom.
I've tried the Auto height setting for the object size, but this scales the text down within the boundaries of the text caption. I would like to maintain the size of my text and have it grow down the screen the way plain text does in an HTML page.
I also do not want to set my text caption height to 100% because I would like to stack objects beneath the text caption.
Any help or advice is great appreciated.

    Hi cntdmds,
There's a setting buried in Preferences > Defaults > Autosize Captions that changes all text captions in your file. This has enabled my responsive layouts to work better in Captivate.
Re: creating something reliable: I'm in the midst of creating a large responsive e-learning course. It's been a really steep learning curve and a very frustrating one. I believe a reliable course can be created, but it's a hard journey. (My largest problem is my smart position markers don't stay at their assigned places, but I think I'm on track to solve it... perhaps.)
Yet to see if this whole responsive Captivate adventure will be worthwhile. I hope Articulate adds a responsive capability to Storyline.
    Cheers.

  • Best practice for responsive projects

Does anyone have tips on best practices for responsive project?
I understand that 3 different layouts can be created. What happens if a learner is not using one of the 3 devices that were set up in a responsive project, and their screen size is different from any of those

    Jay,
Dr. Pooja Jaisingh offered very valuable tips for good practice in responsive design last week in her webinar. 'Do's and Don'ts of creating Responsive Projects with Captivate 8'. I don't see the recording yet On Demand, but keep an eye on it.
Did you test a responsive project with F11 (Preview in Browser)? You will be able to change the resolution of the browser window and see that the content, if well designed (you can have absolute positioning, size as well) will move, shrink to adapt. The break points (3 devices) allow you to make more invasive changes at those points: dragging some objects out of the stage in the scratch area because they take up too much space for phones is one example. Or replacing a big screenshot with many details by a zoomed in detail screenshot for the mobile breakpoint. That is my way of explaining, responsive is not just have the three layouts for devices, it is also adapting between those breakpoints.

  • Converting a Labwindows 4.0.1 project to Labwindows 6.0 project

Please send me the information for converting a Labwindows 4.0.1 project to Labwindows 6.0 project.
The problem what I am facing is
A dll which is working in Labwindows 4.0.1 is not able to be recognized in Labwindows 6.0.
So Please help me as early as possible.

    Hello,
CVI 5.5 and above actually builds an executable instead of running a project from the CVI environment (as in CVI 5.0 and below), so all linked files have to be manually included within the project. For example, an instrument driver in the project that links to some dll will run in CVI 5.0 and below, but it will only run in CVI 5.5 if the lbrary file is included in the project. I hope this information helps.

  • Responsive projects display incorrect content due to orientation of tablet.

In a responsive project, how does Captivate determine which view should be displayed on which type of device? For example, does it use pixel width or device type?
We have had difficulty designing for tablet devices because when the tablet is held in a landscape position, the primary view is shown. When the device is held in a portrait position, the tablet view is shown. Given that some tablets are higher resolution than desktop machines, how do we ensure that the tablet view is displayed regardless of the tablet's orientation?

That is by design: landscape on tablets will show Primary breakpoint view, Portrait shows the Tablet view.
It is not the resolution of the tablet, but of the browser that is important. You can find them on  viewportsizes.com. You will see that although many smartphones have very high resolution, browser resolution is very small.
