Convert catalog from PSE 6 to 10, is it necessary to include the jpegs?

Hello
I am testing PSE 10 (from PSE 6) and have copied the catalog to a test XP box (but not the jpegs).  The catalog refuses to convert with an unspecic error: "Catalog conversion failed" see "Catalog Conversion Errors" for more details.
PSE 6 can find no problems with the existing catalog and I have worked trhough eg http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/515/cpsid_51525.html .
If the conversion process requires the jpegs etc. then that will certainly cause a problem, they are not visible to this PC!  On the other hand, if it is simply a matter of converting the catalog without reference to the source files then there should be no problem.
I am reluctant to allow a conversion process to break a very considerable investment in effort in the PSE6 catalog and want to see it work (and have useful benefit to me) before committing the original.
Some rough statistics: 45,000 images, 140GB data, catalog is around 1.5GB.  It takes about 3 mins for 'repair' to run (having forced a 'repair anyway') and under 10 mins for 'optimize'.
I should add that I have run the psedbtool and while it finds that two drives are missing (E: and F:), there are no missing files.  E: and F: are USB backup drives and are not connected, nor would I expect them to be.  All photos are in one (top level that is) folder on one drive.  If the convertor can only run when the backup drives are connected, that seems a little odd.
If the only option is to restore the backed up PSE 6 archive into PSE 10, that is do-able, but I was trying to avoid doing that.
Perhaps the more pertinant question is "what does PSE 10 offer that I haven't got in PSE 6?".  So far I have not found any really useful function, maybe a couple of the irritating bugs have been fixed? (Mostly the date orderby bug)  I have lived with the multi-core hang since PSE 6 came out and don't use PSE to catalog my raw files, so that fix has no benefit to me.

Well after an all day effort, I have a working W7 64 bit with a spare 1TB drive and all the  updates done (about a 2GB download).  That has taken about eight hours.  Then recover the PSE 6 created backup files into PSE 10, (took about three hours) and for good measure forced a repair and optimize on the catalog. No errors at any point.
PSE 10 crashes when in slide show view.  Sometimes it gets through about two images, sometimes 100 or so, but always it crashes.  So I am ready to give up, PSE 6 is stable at least (though I have yet to try PSE 6 under W7 64bit, my standard PC is W XP 32 bit).
One possible benefit of W7 is the color fidelity is better (I have color calibration too).  The management of the twin screen is not better though, PSE keeps vanishing from view (this is not related to the crash) and has to be coaxed back onto the secondary screen.  PSE 6 under XP gets this right.
I checked the arm chair arm image again, it is the wooden arm of a director's portable chair seen from the side, no matter how I try I can't see a face in it.  I realise now that the 'obvious' faces that get missed are when the eyes are not horizontal, even a small turning of the head results in the face being missed.

  • More trouble trying to convert catalog from PSE 8 to PSE 9.

I am on a PC platform using the XP operating system.   I am currently using PSE 8 and have just installed PSE 9.  I have over 85,000 photos in my catalog, so would really like to have the catalog conversion work.   What I've done so far is in PSE 8 reconnected, repaired, and optimized.   When I try to convert the catalog in PSE 9, I get an error message that I need to try to repair the catalog in the original program.   I've tried to backup the catalog to a hard drive and that fails as well.   Any suggestions would be appreciated..............

Are you still facing this issue ? Try turning off the Auto Analyzer in preferences and also turn OFF the sync engine.

  • Missing albums after converting catalog from PSE 6 to PSE 7

Images converted with no problem but all albums are missing from the album list. is their another step or process in converting the albums?
    thanks

I lost my primary hard drive where PSE 6 and all picture files were stored but fortunately had it backed up on a web service backup.
Upon attemptint to reinstall PSE 6 to my new replacement hard drive (same PC as original) I could not find the exe file to get PSE 6 to launch and grew aggravated. I then downloaded the free trial of PSE 7 instead and :
    1) imported my 11K pictures directly in to PSE7 with no issue except that the album info was not present
    2) in an attempt to get the album info I then converted my PSE6 catalog file .psa to a PSE7 catalog but the album info did not come across
What can I do to either get my album info in PSE7 or going back to the root of the problem reinstall PSE6 and get it to launch?
Again I never could find the exe file to get my backup copy of PSE 6 to launch
    Thanks

  • How do I convert pics from old Adobe Photoshop program on cd in pdd to jpeg?

I have cds with pdd pics from my old (1999) Adobe Photoshop program.  My system won't open them.  I now have Photoshop Elements 8.  I can go to Organize and get photos from the cd.  They are in my catalog and I can open them there.
How do I convert them to jpeg?
When I go to Edit, I can't find my photos in the catalog.  I only find the new pics in my Photo Gallery that are already jpeg.
I feel as though I'm missing something simple.  Can someone help me?

Thanks for your response.  I did get a way to do it with the software I already have.

Subject: How do I convert pics from old Adobe Photoshop program on cd in pdd to jpeg?
There's a utility called "Image Converter Plus" that can do this for you.  They modestly calls it "the best image converter in the industry.  You can see their web site at:  http://www.imageconverterplus.com/help-center/work-with-icp/examples/how-to-convert/PDD_jp g.html .
    Here's from their web site:
h1. How to convert PDD to JPG
Converting PDD to JPG is very easy with Image Converter Plus. In Windows Explorer, select a PDD image and click your right mouse button. In the context menu, select Convert to submenu and click Custom convert line.
    ==========
This seems to be exactly what you want.
Since they have a separate "download" and "purchase" section, it's not clear to me if you have to pay the $49 license fee to use the utility.  You may have to purchase the license to get batch processing.
Even if you do have to pay, my philosophy in life is that if someone can rescue some important pictures with their $49 utility, then it's worth the price.

  • Upgrade EBS 11.5.10.2 from HP-UX to Linux R12.1.3 including the database

    Hello All
I know there are other threads with the same question and i have been to almost all of them. Somehow i am still not able to understand it
So i am posting it here. Sorry about that
Upgrade EBS 11.5.10.2 from HP-UX to Linux R12.1.3 including the database from 10.2.0.3 HP-UX to Linux x86-64 11.2.0.3
First thing is we would like to keep our production system untouched even during the go live in case of any failures we can fallback to old HP-UX systems
    We have three servers
SERVER 1 :- DATABASE, concurrent manager and admin node
SERVER 2 :- FORMS, WEB, REPORT and DISCOVERER
SERVER 3 :- iSupplier Portal for external users with forms and web
    The new system would like
    SERVER 1 :- DATABASE NODE
SERVER 2:- CONCURRENT, ADMIN, FORMS, WEB, REPORT and DISCOVERER
SERVER 3:- iSupplier Portal for external users
I believe the first step should be creating a 10.2.0.3 database on Linux. Install 10.2.0.3 software on Linux.
Export from hp-ux using note 362205.1 and import it on Linux. This will create my Oracle Applications 11i database with data.
Once this is complete for the application tier we would like to move from multi node to single node. I was following the note 238276.1 but it is not very clear how do i copy
concurrent node from server 1 and server 2 with forms, web, report and discoverer to single Linux server ?
Also for the iSupplier server 3 how does the steps follow ?
Can someone please provide some steps in detail ?
Also please correct me if i am wrong on the database part.
    Thanks

  • Convert psa-catalog from PSE 5.0 to actual catalog of PSE 13

If have a problem to get an old psa-catalog from Photoshop Elements 5 converted into a catalog of the new Photoshop Elements 13. The way the help forum describt it doesn't works, as in the convert-manager the catalog doesn't appears and the checkbox of the previous converted files is inaktive.

Thanks for the reply. I want to move the photos to my new Win 7 laptop and have everything arranged as before. I am asked if I want to restore to the "original location" or a "new location." I don't know if "original location" means on my old laptop or on my new laptop but filed and stored as before.
If I have to chose "new location" I have to "Specify Destination" and I don't know what to specify.

  • Converting a catalog from PSE 6 to PSE 11

I am trying to convert a PSE 6 catalog to PSE 11.  Both are in a Windows 7 environment.  The conversion appears to proceed normally until it reaches about 36% complete, then it gets "stuck".  Eventually I receive an error message indicating that the catalog did not convert correctly.  Any suggestions on next steps would be appreciated.

If it’s on the same computer PSE normally prompts to upgrade automatically when you install PSE9
If transferring to a new computer, use full back-up and restore to a new location letting the program choose the set-up.

  • Problems converting catalog from PSE8 to PSE 12

I've upgraded from PSE8 to PSE12.  I've just tried converting one of my 10 or so catalogs - all are stored in custom locations on an external drive, since the total file size for all my images is larger than my C: drive's capacity - with awful results:
    a.     there is now a copy of my folder structure and all files from the catalog in a folder C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Elements Organizer\Catalogs.  Not at all what I want, and if I convert the rest of my catalogs it will fail when C: drive becomes full.
    b.     my converted catalog has no ratings on any images.
    c.     my tags and tag heirarchy have disappeared.
Each of these issues is completely unacceptable.  There are literally thousand of hours of work in all my catalogs, which I cannot repeat.  How can I convert my previous catalogs to PSE12 versions, retaining all ratings, tags and tag structure, and without duplicating every image file?
    Rob

I had already tried optimizing the catalog, repariing the catalog, re-indexing visual simularity data and making sure there were no missing files.  Basically everything I found at: http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/kb/common-catalog-issues-upgrade-elements.html
I also used the Mac OS X Disk Utility to make sure there were no disk errors.
I have Parallels Desktop running on my Mac so I installed the Windows version of PSE12 and used it to convert the catalog of 63,000 pictures in under an hour.  That put the catalog in a new location so I just moved the catalog from the Windows location to the Mac location.  Now PSE12 on the Mac can access the new catalog and is working as expected.

  • Convert Catalog from Adobe Photoshop Album to Photoshop Elements 13

    Hello Community!
I've searched for this question in Google, but I didn't find an answer that helped me.
The old computer from my client with Windows XP OS is getting replaced by a new one with Windows 7.
There was Adobe Photoshop Album on the old one which isn't supported anymore. My client had over 15'000 pictures on his old PC which I've already copied on the new computer. Now he wants his albums, tags and these things from Adobe Photoshop Album back, so I decided to install Photoshop Elements 13 because of the Elements Organizer tool.
Now I've seen answers in forums that sayed that all these informations are saved in the "My Albums.psa" Catalog file, which I've already found on the old computer and copied on the new one. Some people sayed it would work with the "convert" option in PSE, but this doesn't work for me, because PSE doesn't see the .psa file. So I tried to convert my .psa file with this Tool, but in the middle of the progress it says that it failed and that I should try to repair the file in PSE. I'm now stuck here, with several different solutions, and yet I don't know what to do now.
I've read something about the folder structure and that the pictures and folders have to be on the harddisk when trying to convert the .psa file. All pictures are on the new computer, but of course the folders aren't the same on the new OS.
It would be glad if I find a solution as soon as possible from someone in the community.
Thanks and have a nice day!

Finally I could solve the problem.
I tried to import the Backup.tly in Photoshop Elements, but without success. Even there an Error appeared. The conversion tool also still got this failure at a progress of 15% conversion... So I searched a reason for the failure in google and found this helpful article from Adobe. It says that you should look for the corrupt images in the log file. So did I, and I found the error causing picture on the old computer and deleted it. After that I opened Photoshop Album, clicked on "File > Reconnect all missing files" and deleted this picture from the catalog.
Now I didn't want to make the backup again, because the last nearly had 1h. So I decided to try it again by just copying the catalog.psa from the old computer to the new one and to convert it again with the conversion tool. The error came again, but at a progress of 22% So i had to do this a few times: Searching the corrupt image in the log file, deleting it on the old computer, deleting the missing file in Photoshop Album and converting it. And finally, it worked, no error after conversion! I let photoshop elements 13 open the new .pse13 file. Now, all tags and albums were back on Photoshop Elements. Eventually, I let the programm searching the new paths of all the images. It takes a time but it works great now. Thanks for your help, I would recommend the Adobe Community & support!

  • Converting Catalog from Photoshop Album 2 to P. Elements 4 or 9

When converting the catalog from Photoshop Album 2.0  PE Versions 4.0 or 9.0, I get 43% through the conversion and then an error message pops up saying the file is corrupt and to repir first in the original version. I have looked up other forums which have been helpful recommending to hold Control key down whening opening P Album to firstly repair the catalog. This done successfully, with the catalog working in Album "successfully repaired", it still does not correct the error message when attemptng to re-convert the catalog into the later versions. I have about 12,000 photos in the catalog. Any ideas most welcome?

    I am curious
Is PS Album 2 running on a Windows XP PC ? Does PS Album run normally ?
PSE 4 on the same PC ?
Is PSE 9 running on the same computer as Photoshop Album 2 ?
Or perhaps is PSE 9 running on a new computer with Windows 7 ?
For PS Album 2, in addition to doing the repair of the Catalog (which you  have done), you should not have any disconnected files when you attempt a catalog upgrade. In PS Album 2, look for a command to Reconnect All Missing Files -- it may be under the File menu.  Run that command.
Here is a reference to a discussion of problems upgrading catalogs

I suggest that you read it for general background and specifically I suggest that you read the comments about identifying a "poisin" video file

  • Converting Catalogs From Photoshop Album (2.0) to Photoshop Elements 13

My Photoshop Album currently holds some 23,000 photographs/jpgs from 2003 to date. Each is catalogued to provide a very high level of granularity to assist in identifying specific photographs and their subject content.
I have purchased Photoshop Elements to update the management of the collection. The Adobe information identifies it to be a suitable successor but indicates that there is likely to be some effort required to update the catalog. Using Catalog Manager I have attempted to Convert the old catalog which didn’t work because it “couldn’t be seen” in Elements. Further research of the Forum and other Adobe resources pointed to the Catalog Conversion Utility. Again this also failed to work.
I then reduced the number of photographs to about 4,500 (year 2014). I have noted by the way that this has had virtually no effect on the psa file size. As I gradually Deleted photos from the Catalog I have come across about 100 items which cannot be deleted and returns the following error message….
The ODBC data source reported the following error:
“[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Indicator variable required but not supplied on column number 10 (fDateTimeHigh)”
I have tried a number of ways to delete the photos including removing them from their folder; “Reconnecting the Missing File” with/without the same name in a different Folder; and generally getting myself very frustrated with my lack of knowledge. Googling/search for help and pointers hasn’t found the solution.
What or where can I find a way of deleting these errant files? (I have MS Access if this is a tool that might get me the solution.)
Note that one very old and small Catalog did convert and successfully integrated into Elements so it all works in principle. It seems to point to these problem jpgs.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Yes. Thanks for your reply. Just shows my age doesn't it! I've really got to upgrade my system from Windows 3.1.
Still it lasted me for quite a few years over its various issues and wasn't a bad investment for me considering I think it was a magazine cover freebie, though I can't remember whether it was issued on 5" or 3" disks!!!
Interesting to note that conceptually the original design was quite good and together with the new face recognition technology which is as good if not better than Picasa the PSE13 Organiser does a good job. It's a pity Adobe doesn't promote more of this side of the product. I wasn't able to find the replacement to Album as it was starting to struggle as the photo count increased and I hadn't been able to find an obvious replacement. Still that's over now.
All I have to do now is to raise a query as to how to order/sort certain tags and it's a near perfect product for me. Can't find the answer in the Manual(s) or FAQs - or I'm not using the correct query key words.

  • How to convert catalog from 3.2 to Elements 8?

On Oct. 11 you answered a question
similar to mine and I have followed your instructions through the "reconnecting missing files", but there is a broken link that is supposed to show me how to configure Windows Explorer to look for poisioned files.  Could you please walk me through this process?  Also, the Elements 8 is now telling me that "new files have been found in my Watched Folders" and wants to know if I want to add them to my Media Browser.  This would defintely load my pictures into the new program but unfortunately, it would not include the collections or tags I've already spent years attaching.  Should I click "no" before we proceed?  I was afraid to do that and then still not be able to load my catalog.  Please advise.

Yes, in your current situation I would click NO to adding those new files from the Watched Folders at this time.  You want to complete the process of converting your older catalog first.
I suspect that you are referring to one of John Ellis's FAQs, so perhaps John will respond soon. Otherwise someone else can try to help you, if you give a more specific reference to where you are reading these instructions.

  • Convert catalog from Adobe Photoshop Album starter edition 3.0 to 3.2

    Hello
I am using Adobe Photoshop Album starter edition 3.0 for years.
1.- I have upgraded to 3.2 now, but I don't know how to convert the catalog from the old version to the new version. Where is this documented?
2.- By default Adobe installs the catalog file on c:\documents and settings\all users\... - I have now installed adobe on another drive, D. But still the catalog is by default saved under c:\documents and settings\all users\... I need to have it on another location. How can I change the catalog file location?
    Thank you.
    Steven Van Bauwel

    Welcome to the forum.
Unfortunately, you have posted to the Photoshop Windows forum, which deals with issues on the full Photoshop program. You want to post to the Photoshop Album Starter Edition Forum (a different software).
    Good luck,

  • Import catalog from PSE 8 to LR2

Just purchased LR2 and it won't recognize my PSE 8 catalog.  It found an outdated
PSE 6 catalog that it offered to import.  Is there a way to get my PSE 8 catalog imported?
LR 3 beta appears to read PSE 8 catalogs, can I read a LR 3 catalog with LR 2 if I download
the LR 3 beta and import the catalog using that?
Is there a way to export the PSE 8 catalog into a PSE 6 format?
I suppose I can go with the old PSE 6 catalog, that will be better than nothing, but still a lot
    of work I'd rather avoid.
    Thanks,
    Dan

At this time, LR2 does not import PSE7 or PSE8 catalogs.
Lightroom 3 can read PSE8 catalogs, but you can't convert that Lightroom 3 catalog to anything else.
So there is no way to convert your PSE8 catalog to Lightroom 2.
A partial workaround is to use John R Ellis's psedbtool to write metadata to your photo files, and then import the files into Lightroom 2. Some information will be lost under this method: stacks, albums, and any other information that cannot be stored in the photo files.

  • PSE7 convert catalog from PASE 3.2

    Hi all,
I installed Photoshop Elements 7.0 (PSE7) and I am trying to import my catalog from Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.2 (PASE).
    After 15%, the conversion aborts.
The catalog works OK under PASE 3.2.
I have tried loading the .psa under MS Access and compressing it, then I still have the same conversion problem.
There is no error log, just a hint about "repairing/compressing" it in its original application. PASE does not have a repair/compress option :-(
My catalog is around 8800 photos.
I am completely desesperate and I needs some help/ideas to get my PASE catalog into PSE7 ...
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi -
I had the same problem and I got it figured out.
First, I had problems with PASE where I could not add new photos - I would get an ODBC error.  The catalog worked fine, but couldn't add.  I think PASE has a 5000 image limit - because if I removed images from the catalog to get below 5000 I could add again.
Anyway, I switched to PSE 8 and could not import my catalog - it would get partway in and fail.  After some investigating I found that it was choking on images that had been edited (had an _edited name).  If I remove the edited images from the catalog (not from disk - I still have the images, just deleted them from the PASE catalog).
When running the import it creates a temp file in C:\Documents and Settings\name\Local Settings\Temp   The file is named pse-conversion-log_My Catalog-6.txt  (the 6 number changes with each import attempt).  Look at the last line in that file and it is the offending image.  REmove that one from the PASE catalog and try again.  Working through them one by one I got the whole catalog imported to PSE8.   It was tedious but worth the effort to preserve the tags.
    Hope this helps.
