Convert catalogs: Photoshop Elements 10 to 11

Hello,
After the installation of Photoshop Elements 11 and Premiere Elements 11 on my new system, the catalogs of version 10 do not appear for the conversion to version 11; my 2 catalogs are installed on a LACIE-2BIG NAS system. Any idea regarding this issue? Thanks.
Elements Organizer 11.0.0.0

I suppose you still have version 10 available on your new computer ?
I have no experience with NAS drives, but I think it would be interesting to test the conversion after moving (from PSE10) the old catalog to the default location on your main drive : menu catalog manager, 'move' button.
The catalog folder will be moved to the default location (to be found by the help menu, system info).
Perhaps this will make it accessible to the PSE11 conversion option.
Note that sometimes in the 'conversion' dialog of PSE11 you have to check the option to 'show previously converted catalogs'.

I want to upgrade from Photoshop Elements 5 to Lightroom 5.  Can Lightroom 5 read/convert a Photoshop Elements 5 catalog including all of the tags, captions, etc, or is Elements 5 too old for Lightroom 5 to read/convert?  What's the best way to migrate?  (My catalog has over 100k images in it.)

Adobe changed the catalog software from PSE6 onwards to the SQLite database – as used in Lightroom.
Earlier versions of PSE including PSE5 used a Microsoft Access database, stored in a file called [Catalog Name].psa.
If you have already embedded keywords and captions by writing file info into the images they should be readable even if catalog conversion fails. Lightroom does have the ability to import a PSE catalog but in view of the age of PSE5 I would recommend downloading the 30 day free trial of LR5.6 and then you can judge the level of success of catalog conversion.

As a matter of fact, if you do install PSE11 in the same computer as PSE4, you can convert the PSE4 catalog to the new version, and the new catalog will recognize your media files. See the limitations of the conversion for some types of creations in the above link.
The other way suggested by Preran (that is to do a full backup from PSE4 and a restore from PSE11) is a good way ; it is  necessary if you are migrating to another computer or OS.

  • Converting from Photoshop Elements 8 on PC to iPhoto on Mac

Just coverted(converting?) to an iMac and was hoping I could get some help.
I basically used 'Element's as a photo album with some edit. Is this what iPhoto is? Is it bettter?
In PS Elements I have a multitude of directories, tagged photod and I guess an overall catalog. Can I import all this into iPhoto?
Thank you very much in advance for your help. :-)

Similar but not the same. It's a different paradigm - a database - than you're used to with Elements.
iPhoto is a photo manager and is intended to replace the file manager entirely. Everything you need to do with your photos can be done with iPhoto or with another app, accessed via iPhoto. That's what being the Manager is about. So, import your files from your camera and then fterwards all your work is done in the iPhoto window.
    For instance:
For help accessing your photos in iPhoto see this user tip:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4491
iPhoto is not an editor like Elements, it's has no compositing, for instance. It's more a digital darkroom. Take in your photos, process them to improve the over all look and feel. If you want to remove a telegraph pole from the background, then you use another app - accessed via iPhoto. So:   You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
All processing in iPhoto is virtual and non-destructive. Your original file is never touched and edits are never finalised until you export a version.
The managing abilities of iPhoto are rather greater than Elements: For instance a canned answer I sometimes use:
I use Events simply as big buckets of Photos: Spring 08, July - Nov 06 are typical Events in my Library. I use keywords and Smart Albums extensively. I title the pics broadly.
    I keyword on a
    Who
    What
Where basis (The When is in the photos's Exif metadata). I also rate the pics on a 1 - 5 star basis.
Using this system I can find pretty much find any pic in my 50k library in a couple of seconds.
So, for example, I have a batch of pics titled 'Seattle 08' and a  typical keywording might include: John, Anne, Landscape, mountain, trees, snow. With a rating included it's so very easy to find the best pics we took at Mount Rainier.
    File -> New Smart Album
    set it to 'All"
    title contains Seattle
    keyword is mountain
    keyword is snow
    rating is 5 stars
Or, want a chronological album of John from birth to today?
    New Smart Album
    Keyword is John
Set the View options to Sort By Date Ascending
    Want only the best pics?
add Rating is greater than 4 stars
The best thing about this system is that it's dynamic. If I add 50 more pics of John  to the Library tomorrow, as I keyword and rate them they are added to the Smart Album.
In the end, organisation is about finding the pics. The point is to make locating that pic or batch of pics findable fast. This system works for me.
Best advice: Create a library, import 100 shots and explore. It's a good app, but not for everyone.

  • How do i get pictures from ps 3.2 to convert into photoshop elements 9?

    d

Install PSE9, run it, and you should get a dialog box asking you if your want to convert. Click "Yes".
If that doesn't happen, in PSE9, select File->Catalog->Convert and point PSE to your PSE3.2 catalog.
By the way, contrary to your subject line, you are not converting the pictures. Those remain unchanged and unmoved. You are converting the PSE catalog.

  • Misplaced keywords in catalog. photoshop elements 10.

Moved some catalog keywords but do not know where.  How can I locate them. I know their names from below each photo.

Make sure the little black triangle icon to the left of each catagory is pointing down. If not click to expand the list.

  • Photoshop Elements 11 catalog conversion solution

The Photoshop Elements 11 Organizer failed to convert my Photoshop Elements 6 catalog until I ran the PSE11 Organizer under the built-in Windows 7 Administrator account. I did not find this solution mentioned during my efforts to solve this installation problem. It was not a suggestion I found in Adobe's help files dealing with catalog conversion. So here is a summary for others with this problem.
I installed Photoshop Elements 11 on my Dell XPS 9000 running Windows 7 Pro x64. I retained my PSE6 installation. I have nearly 20,000 cataloged images in my PSE6 catalog.
Problems began when the PSE11 Organizer failed to convert my PSE6 catalog to the new PSE11 format. The process seemed to run to completion, but then an error message said the conversion had failed. The suggestion was to repair and optimize the PSE6 catalog using PSE6, then try converting again. Conversion to PSE11 still failed. I spent a few hours searching for suggestions and solutions and tried each of them without success.
I then found one suggestion that the problem might involve permissions. The suggestion was to right click PhotoshopElementsOrganizer.exe in its installation folder (which on my computer is at at D:\Photo\Elements 11 Organizer) and run Organizer as an administrator. This also failed. However it did get me thinking about permissions.
Even though my personal account on my computer is an administrator account, I logged off my personal account and logged on to my computer's built-in Administrator account that comes with Windows 7. I don't think I've used that account for any other purpose since I set up this computer 3 years ago.
I then ran the PSE11 Elements Organizer using the Administrator account and the catalog conversion ran to completion and all seemed correct.
However, when I went to the folder where I kept my PSE6 catalog (G:\0-PSElementsCatalog\FamilyPhotos-6), the new PSE11 catalog was not there. Instead, PSE11 had put the converted catalog in the (absolutely awful) default location at C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Elements Organizer\Catalogs\FamilyPhotos-6). Using the PSE11 Organizer, I renamed the catalog to G:\0-PSElementsCatalog\FamilyPhotos-11(ConvertedFrom6). I then used PSE11 Organizer to move the converted catalog to my preferred location on my G: drive.
    All is now well.
Why did I have to use the built-in Administrator account to do the catalog conversion? What permissions does it have that my personal account (also an Administrator) does not have? Some years ago I encountered a similar problem that involved permissions on a registry key, not permissions on files or folders. Perhaps someone at Adobe can enlighten us.

    One thing puzzles me:

I don't understand why running the exe from the installation folder would have worked.
I would have simply tried to run that exe from its real location :
Sorry, I can't help you more about permissions...

  • Converting tags from V1 Photoshop Album to Photoshop Elements v4?

I was able to convert my pictures from V1 Photoshop Album as well as the captions, however the tags do not seem to be converted to Photoshop Elements v4.  I was told that by using Photoshop Elements v4 the tags would come over.  Anyone have suggestions?

Thank you so much it worked - the only thing that didn't transfer was the folder pics I'd chosen for the tags so that didn't take long to redo - many thanks - I'd never have found that. It would have been so much more obvious if it showed 'open' or 'select catalogue' rather than just the word 'catalogue' with no other options visible from the dropdown menu.
    Happy Bunny here!

  • How to Reconcile Photoshop Elements 12 Organizer's New People with Previous Versions.

On updating earlier version catalog (Photoshop Elements 10) to Version 12, the older version's "People" tags were not converted to new People (Faces) tags. Images with People tags but not tagged faces were also not converted. Now I have a mess of Family Tags and Group Tages representing people. Nearly all of the new (ver. 12) People groups, when clicked, respond that no media exist. Hours on telephone with Adobe Technicians has been useless. They cannot seem to relate to problem. It must not be in the manual from which they are reciting. At this point, number of crashes and quirks in Photoshop Elements 12 are making me rethink whether I want to stay with Adobe Products at all.

You simply need to create your stills with Photoshop Elements, save them in a suitable format (.jpg, .png, .tiff are all acceptable) then drag and drop them into your iMovie timeline.  You don't have to use iPhoto.

  • Can Photoshop Elements 12 work with Photoshop Premiere 13?

I already have Photoshop Elements 12 and was bought Premiere 13 for xmas and they are not recognising each other. Each keep asking if I want to download the trial version of each? I dont know if you can use Photoshop Elements 12 with Photoshop Premiere 13 so I downloaded the trial version of Photoshop Elements 13 to see if they would work together but they dont. I am trying to do a slideshow in Photoshop Elements 12 and when it comes to the output I want to put it onto a DVD and give it as a present. It does say to transfer to Photoshop Premier (which I have on my wondows 8 computer) but when I click on the link to transfer, it only gives me the option to trial it? And I already have it?

Several key factors here....the new Elements Organizer 13  is markedly different than Elements Organizer 12. The Elements Organizer/Create/Slideshow of version 12 and earlier is gone and is replaced by Elements Organizer with different slideshow opportunities very much unlike what you have in 12.
Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements integration comes with the same version of the programs on the same computer. But, there are special considerations in this case since we are dealing with a new Elements Organizer in 13.
However, if you want to salvage your already made Elements Organizer 12 slideshow project and open it in Elements Organizer 13, it is possible. You can also get 1080p and 720p slideshow out of it. You know that already if you have Premiere Elements 13 and its Elements Organizer 13. If interested in this salvage...on to Elements Organizer 12 catalog conversion in Elements Organizer 13.
    Elements Organizer 13
    File Menu
    Manage Catalogs
Catalog Manager and hit its Convert Button
In the dialog that opens, look for the name of the Elements Organizer 12 catalog.... Convert Button
The converted Elements Organizer 12 catalog should open in Elements Organizer 13.
When you go to double click the slideshow thumbnail (Slide Show Project) in the converted catalog in Elements Organizer 13, Elements Organizer 13 wants to convert the slideshow into the format of its new slideshow feature there. You should see
Once the converted Slideshow opens, you will see opportunities for Edit, Save, Export including options to Play or Exit.
If you want to get that converted slideshow into Premiere Elements, then you export to 1080p or 720p and then bring that into
the Premiere Elements 13 Editor using Add Media/FIles and Folders.
Please review and let me know if I have targeted your questions.
    Thank you.

  • Can I get Photoshop Elements 6 Info into PE7?

I've got my videos tagged and captioned in a Photoshop Elements 6 catalog. Can I get that keyword and caption data into Premiere Elements 7? I can definitely get the video clips into PE, but want the other info too for cataloging purposes. Thanks in advance for your help!

Until proven otherwise, my answer to your question is No.
I have Photoshop Elements 6 and Premiere Elements 4 as well as Photoshop Elements 7 and Premiere Elements 7 installed on my Windows XP desktop. If I tag videos in Photoshop Elements 7 and send those video over to Premiere Elements 7, the videos with tags travel great. However, if I tag videos in Photoshop Elements 6 and send those videos over to Premiere Elements 7, the videos travel but without the tags that I placed in Photoshop Elements 6 Organizer.
I believe the issue evolves around a non integrated set as well as the fact that I believe Photoshop Elements 6 probably has a different Organizer format (ODBC database format) than the Organizer in Premiere Elements 7 (SQLite database format). I have not found a way in Premiere Elements 7 (File Menu/Catalog) to workaround this issue. Neither have I found a way to convert the Photoshop Element 6 catalog in Photoshop Elements 6 to make the transfer of tags along with the video. Even if I could, I  would need to think further into the possibility that the converted catalog would no longer be useable in Photoshop Elements 6.
Right now I am pondering two possibilities for you:
    a. Upgrade your Photoshop Elements 6 to Photoshop Elements 7 so that you will have an integrated set (Photoshop Elements 7/Premiere Elements 7)
    and/or
    b. See if you can add and tag your videos to the Premiere Elements 7 Organizer and leave Photoshop Elements 6 catalog for your photos.
I am going to explore possibility "b" to see how that works out. I do not use the Organizer of either Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements to any great extent, but you question interested me and got me wondering.

  • Tags in Photoshop Elements 11

I just converted to Photoshop Elements 11 and have all my picture file organized using Tags, which has worked very well in previous version of PE.
Everything converted OK but the way PE11 uses Tags is quite confusing.
First, Tags are shown on the right side, but when you click on a group another menu of the tags pop up at the top of the screen, why in 2 places??
Second, In previous version I could choose a group of different Tags and they would all show up.  In PE11 if I pick a second Tag  the picture screen gives a message "No Media To Be Displayed".
Third, To move from one Tag to another I have to go back and start over.
Is this a glitch in PE11 or am I missing something in the logic of Tags?

I am in total agreement that the old system was much better.
It depends on the profile of each user. I am quite sure the new interface was designed to please new users. That is true for the clear background, that is true for the combination of criteria. Statistics should show that the new division into views like people, events and places is quickly understood by the average user while the 'query' style combination of criteria is not.
Old users like me regret the old serious dark interface for color correction and the flexible, unobstrusive and powerful way to combine criteria in searches. There is nothing I have lost : I can still do what I was used to, but after a painful period of learning the new interface .
Let's face it : Adobe has chosen to please a wider amateur public. That helps maintening PSE in an affordable price and performance range to compete against new competitors. Advanced users still have the same power they had before. When they are no longer satisfied with the (amateur) changes, they now can convert to Lightroom (now affordable) and an older version of PSE. That's still a big change and learning curve !

  • Editing People tags in Photoshop Elements 11

I just converted from Photoshop Elements 10 to 11.  I can't find how to edit my people tags in 11.  Is there away?  If so what is it?

When you double click on a people stack, you can see that there is another switcher Faces<->People on the top left corner of the grid. You may switch to Faces view > right click > Assign as profile picture. The notes you added with People tags in previous versions are not brought upon conversion., unfortunately.
