Convert Color PDF to Grayscale using Preflight in Acrobat 9 Pro

Has anyone posted a step-by-step procedure to convert color PDFs to grayscale? I've unsuccessfully been trying to use the new Preflight dialog to do this. This is the procedure I tried:
1) In the Preflight dialog, Create New Preflight Fixup.
2) Fixup Category: Color Spaces, Spot Colors, Inks. For Type of Fixup: Convert Colors.
3) In the Conversion settings tab, chose All Objects, Using Any Color (except spot colors), plus All Objects, Using Spot colors(s).
4) For Destination, I chose a grayscale destination Dot Gain 25%.
5) After clicking OK, I selected the new profile and clicked on the Fix button, and saved the file.
Nothing happens, and the colors don't change.
If anyone can explain what I'm missing, I would greatly appreciate it.

Good to know is that the Acrobat 9.x product family passed into End of Support mid-year 2013.

  • Preserving Black color values when converting color PDF to grayscale

I opened a full colored PDF document (exported from InDesign using Profile: Euroscale Coated v2) in Photoshop and tried to convert it to grayscale (image > mode > grayscale) and noticed that the black color values changed. text for example that was 100% black in the PDF document became a screen of 91% black.
is there a way to preserve color values when converting full color PDF documents to grayscale?
or in other words WHICH is the correct way to convert full color PDF documents or full color InDesign files to grayscale?
I am using Adobe CS 3, Acrobat 8 Professional, on Mac OS 10.5.5

Before you open the PDF in Photoshop, set PS's Color Settings to Photoshop 5 Default Spaces. When you open the PDF set the Mode to Grayscale in the Import dialog. Just remember to reset your color settings when you're done.
Edit: Also, if you want to match black percentages as well as 100% black, set the Photoshop Color Settings to Photoshop 5 Default Spaces with the Gray working space to Dot Gain 20%.

  • Converting a *.pdf file to a *.stl for Acrobat Pro Extended?

Hi I'm researching Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 Extended and I was wondering if there is a possibility to creat a *.stl file from an Adobe PDF file with 3D embedded objects.
Can anyone shine some light on this?

    Hello,
    Yes it's possible:
    - open a PDF file
    - Activate 3D content
    - Right click on scene then Select Export Data...
    - Select STL format (Setings for the Level Of Detail are available)
    - Browse to a folder then Press OK
    Hope It helps

  • How do you convert a PDF to grayscale?

Just switched from Pro 8 to 9.  In 8 I would use the convert colors tool to do this but it didnt always work but I delt with it.  Im on Pro 9 and the settings for that have all moved around.  I never really fully understood how to convert a PDF to grayscale, would just wing it as it was.  Now Im totally baffled.  Is there any "proper" way to convert to grayscale where I dont have hundreds of options to go through with profiles and other things that are really over my head and needs?

Thanks guys(or gals?) to responding to this.
What I ended up doing is:
    Covert entire file to grayscale.
Save As "file name + BW"
    Close
    Open original file
Replace individual pages from BW version for each page I want to change to BW.
    BTW:
The reason I need to do this is to avoid getting color click charges on my printer/copier. The original pdf is created in Microsoft Publisher(Yuck!), then made into a Color PDF. Some pages only need to be printed as B/W, and others as Color. This can be also be done using an advanced controller such a Fiery on the printer/copier, but that would cost an additional $3000, and it would be used just for this functionality. With this route, it will only be just the cost of Acrobat Pro.
Also, I am doing this on Acrobat for the Mac, which seems to have the same issues as the Window version.

Have recently changed platforms to mac and wish to use my registered acrobat pro... please help

Do you have Acrobat 10 or an older version?  If you have a copy of Acrobat 10 then you can complete the process detailed in Order an Adobe product platform swap or language swap to obtain a Mac OS version.
If you have an older version then you will want to purchase the upgrade to Acrobat 10.  We no longer offer older versions of Acrobat.

  • Convert color PDF to Black in Acrobat 9

I have need that I have not been able to find an answer to. I have a fairly large color pdf (over 400 pages of drawings in color) and I would like to turn all the colors to black. Everything I have been able find in my research to do this has to do with converting a color PDF to black & white (grayscale), I do not want to use grayscale, I need the colors to be converted to black. Any color other than white I want to be black. I realize that you can print to black and white but that will not work for me because there are a couple of pages in the PDF that are color models that I will reinsert back in to the PDF after I have converted the PDF.
If anyone can help in this endeavor it would be greatly appreciated.

For Acrobat 9 Pro it is:
    File > Export > PDF/A

  • Covert color pdf to grayscale pdf in Acrobat 6.0

I have a number of color pdfs that I would like to convert into grayscale pdfs using Acrobat 6.0. How do I go about doing this? Thanks in advance for your help!!

Acrobat 6 is many version ago. I don't remember Acrobat 6 having that capability. I think people used to use Pitstop to do things like that. I'm sure someone with a better memory than mine will stop by with more information. Have you tried to search the help file?

  • How I can access "Convert Colors..." button in Adobe Acrobat XI using applescript, or add this button to menu bar?

Hi, I'm writing applescript to automate Adobe Acrobat XI, I'm missing only one line of code - opening dialog window of "Convert Colors..." tool. It was easy in Acrobat 9 but some reason it's complicated in Acrobat XI.
Is there an option to add "Convert Colors..." as menu item into menu bar?

Thanks Gilad D. I created JS file with simple code
    app.addMenuItem({cName:"Convert Colors", cParent:"View", cExec:'app.execMenuItem("ColorConversionMenuItem");'});
and I added it into acrobat (USER/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Acrobat/11.0/JavaScripts/).
I enabled menu items JavaScript execution privileges in Acrobat Preferences.
Now I can open "Convert Colors" from main menu bar, and create applescript which do the same.

  • Converting a multipage pdf to a multipage jpeg in acrobat pro x

I was wondering if anyone has any tips on how to convert a single multipage pdf into a single multipage jpeg in acrobat pro x.
    Thanks

I did not know there were multipage JPegs under the JPeg standard (there are multipage TIFFs). In any case, Acrobat does not create multipage documents but will save a file as multiple files -- one for each page -- in either TIFF or JPeg. You should then use a graphics editor to combine them into one file. Irfanview might do the job, but am not sure.

  • Problems with reading a pdf-file using Safari/Adobe Acrobat Pro

Using Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.5.5. and Safari in Snow Leopard I open the pdf-file of  http://dare.uva.nl/document/505726 and small boxes appear in the text f.i. on page 70, 74, on the last page etc.
I don't know why those small boxes appear only on my MacBook Pro with the installed software and others don't read a corrupt text. If I click in den pdf-file on the right side of the mouse and choose "open with Adobe Acrobat Pro" the pdf-file opens correctly (without small boxes)!

As you discovered, Adobe Acrobat/Pro/Reader v.9 will crash for all managed user accounts that store their home folders on the server because it has "difficulty" reading and writing to a folder across a network, which is why it crashes shortly after it launches.
HOWEVER, there is hope. All you need to do is tell Adobe to write all of its files to the local drive rather than the home folder on the sharepoint, as follows:
While logged into your network-user account:
    1. Go to the "Shared" folder on the local drive. (Local HD > Users > Shared)
    2. Create a new folder named "9.0_x86" if you have an Intel or "9.0_ppc" if you have a PPC (without the quotes for either case). You will have to authenticate as an Administrator.
    3. Go to the Acrobat folder within the user's Application Support and delete the folder in it.
    (Home > Library > Application Support > Adobe > Acrobat > 9.0_x86 or 9.0_ppc)
    4. Open/launch the Terminal application found within the Utilities folder on you Mac.
    (Applications > Utilities > Terminal.app)
    5. In Terminal, enter the 1st command for Intel or the 2nd for PPC:
    ln -s /Users/Shared/9.0_x86 ~/Library/Application \Support/Adobe/Acrobat/9.0_x86
    OR
    ln -s /Users/Shared/9.0_ppc ~/Library/Application \Support/Adobe/Acrobat/9.0_ppc
Adobe Acrobat 9 should now work properly. You may get the "quit unexpectedly" error message the first time you quit the application, but should only happen the one time.
On a side note, the print spool is slow when printing very large multi-paged PDFs.
This is a fix I found in 2009 by Dennis, can't remember where though.
